MARTIN FANARJIAN, 71, of JACKSON
MARTIN FANARJIAN, 71, of JACKSON, died Sunday at home. He was a telephone solicitor for the Asbury Park Press in Neptune for many years, retiring in 1995. Before that, he was a salesman for various car dealerships in the area. He was an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He was awarded the World War II Victory Medal, the National Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Stars, and the Purple Heart. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans Chapter 77, Military Order of the Purple Heart; Eastern Paralyzed Veterans Association; Copestone-Ophir Masonic Lodge in Kearny; and the Society of the Third Infantry Division Army. Born in Summit, he lived in Lakewood before moving to Jackson 30 years ago.
Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Patricia Luke Fanarjian; his mother, Violet Khachikian of Yeadon, Pa.; a son, Christopher Manhire of Las Vegas; two daughters, Cheryl Schott of Jackson, and Valerie Fanarjian of New York State; a sister, Marion Tefankjian of Havertown, Pa.; a nephew, Gregory Tefankjian; a niece, Tracy Walsh; and four grandchildren, Joseph, Tess, Jackson and Margaret.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at George S. Hassler Funeral Home, 980 Bennetts Mills Road, Jackson. A funeral service will be held 9:15 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road, Arneytown. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the memory of Mr. Fanarjian to the Deborah Hospital Foundation, N.J. Region, P.O. Box 820, Browns Mills, NJ 08015-0820, and would be greatly appreciated.

PAUL ROBERT BURNS SR., 64, of St. Augustine, Fla., formerly of LAKEWOOD
PAUL ROBERT BURNS SR., 64, of St. Augustine, Fla., formerly of LAKEWOOD, died Thursday at home. He was a Navy veteran, and a volunteer firefighter for 10 years. He was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather and touched many lives in his people-friendly manner, ever devoted to his family. He enjoyed a round of golf and being at work. He will be missed by all his family, but will forever be with them in their hearts and memories. Born in Lakewood, he moved to St. Augustine with his wife and two sons in 1976.
Surviving are his wife, Paulette; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul Jr. and Brenda L. of Orlando, Fla., and Brian and Dawna H. of Green Cove Springs; a sister, Betty M. Smith of Port Charlotte, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Corey, Ashley, Haley and Timothy.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. today at Craig Funeral Home and Crematory, 1475 Old Dixie Highway, St. Augustine, Fla. Burial will be in San Lorenzo.

RAYMOND EMMONS JR., 72, of TOMS RIVER
RAYMOND EMMONS JR., 72, of TOMS RIVER, died Sunday at home. He was a sheet metal worker for Local 27, Howell, for 30 years, retiring in 1991. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Beachwood; Harmony Lodge 18, F&AM, Toms River; Crescent Temple and Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Trenton; and District 18 Little League staff. Born in Spring Lake, he lived there before moving to Toms River in 1963.
He was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Ross Emmons. Surviving are four sons, Raymond Emmons and John Emmons, both of Toms River, Chief Carl Emmons of Virginia Beach, Va., and James Emmons of Toms River; a daughter, Susan Carlson of Bayville, Berkeley; his mother, Mary Bogan Emmons of Toms River; a sister, Betty Burgess of Maine; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and his companion, Patricia Williams of Beachwood.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River. A masonic service will be held 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Atlantic View Cemetery, Manasquan.

THERESA M. CROCE FORMATO, 71, of TOMS RIVER
THERESA M. CROCE FORMATO, 71, of TOMS RIVER, died Sunday at Whiting Health Care Center, Whiting, Manchester. Born in Newark, she lived in Bloomfield for many years before moving to Toms River in 1991.
She was predeceased by her husband, Augustine Formato; her father, Joseph Croce; and a brother, Joseph Croce Jr. Surviving are a son, Gus Formato; her mother, Rose D'Amore Croce; and four grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. today at S.W. Brown & Son Funeral Home, 267 Centre St., Nutley. A funeral will be held 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, followed by a 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass at Holy Family Church, Nutley. Interment will be in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, East Orange.

Diane White Lupyak, formerly of Manville
WAYMART, Pa. -- Diane White Lupyak, 43, died May 9, 2001 in Waymart, Pa.
She was a former resident of Manville, N.J. where she attended school.
She was the daughter of Joan White Warncke and the late Robert P. White.
She is survived by her husband, Jerome Lupyak; a son, Brendan; a sister, Pamela Hilton; and a brother, Tim White.

SELMA LEVY, AGE 101, SOMERSET
Selma Levy, 101, of Somerset died yesterday at the Central Jersey Jewish Home for the Aged in Somerset.
She was born in New York City, and had lived in Plainview, N.Y. She also resided in Highland Park for 14 years before moving to Somerset in 1995.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the National Council for Jewish Women and the Friends of Brandeis University, and was a volunteer for the Central Jersey Jewish Home for the Aged in Somerset.
She was the daughter of the late Paul and Annie (Woolf) DeVarco. She was the widow of Dr. Moses Levy, who died in 1970.
She is survived by her brother, Herbert DeVarco of Ohio; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dr. William and Martha Levy of Cape Cod, and several nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Mount Ararat Cemetery in Farmingdale, Long Island, N.Y. Arrangements are by Crabiel Parkwest Funeral Chapel, 239 Livingston Ave., New Brunswick.

VICTORIA Da COSTA, AGE 89, SOMERSET
Victoria (Ayenta) Da Costa, 89, died Thursday at St. Peter's University Hospital in New Brunswick.
A native of Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies, she moved to Somerset 23 years ago.
She had been employed as an inventory clerk for L.J. Williams Co. in Jamaica, West Indies. She was a former member of the Quailbrook Senior Citizens in Somerset.
She is survived by three sons, Noel C. Da Costa of Somerset, Audley Da Costa of Long Island, N.Y., and Ricardo Del Fosse of Orlando, Fla.; a daughter, Yvonne Chin of Long Island; a sister, Mavis "Mae" Magnos of Jamaica, West Indies; 24 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Eternal Life Christian Center, Franklin Boulevard in Somerset. Burial will be at Franklin Memorial Park Cemetery in North Brunswick. Viewing hours are 7 p.m.-9 p.m. Friday at Eternal Life Christian Center. Arrangements are by Anderson Funeral Service, New Brunswick.

Jean Marie Ridzy, devoted to church
NORTH PLAINFIELD -- Jean Marie Ridzy, 84, died Saturday (June 23, 2001) at her home. Jean was born in Carteret, raised in Cleveland and lived in Martinsville before moving to North Plainfield 46 years ago.
She was a homemaker and devoted to her church, St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church in North Plainfield. She was a member of St. Joseph Altar Rosary Society for many years. She helped clean the church and prepare the altar with clean linens on a weekly basis. Jean also did volunteer work at McAuley Hall in Watchung.
She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph J. Ridzy, in 1970.
Surviving are her son, Edward Ridzy of Bridgewater; two daughters, Carol Jordan of Boynton Beach, Fla., and Barbara Ridzy of North Plainfield; two brothers, Tony Dudich of Newbury, Ohio and Frank Dudich of Lyndhurst, Ohio; and four grandchildren.
Services will start at 9 a.m. Wednesday from the Scarpa Funeral Home, 22 Craig Place, North Plainfield, followed by a 10 a.m. Mass at St. Joseph Church, North Plainfield. Burial is at Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield.
Visiting hours will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Haven Hospice, JFK Medical Center, 65 James St., Edison, NJ 08818.

John A. Del Monte, World War II veteran
SCOTCH PLAINS -- John A. Del Monte, 82, of Scotch Plains, died Sunday (June 24, 2001) at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield. Born in Utica, N.Y., Mr. Del Monte lived in Plainfield before moving to Scotch Plains in 1981.
Mr. Del Monte served in the Army during World War II with the Artillery Battalion Division, receiving the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. Following his discharge from the military service, Mr. Del Monte was employed in the construction business with Labors International Union, Local 394 of North America, retiring 22 years ago.
Mr. Del Monte was predeceased by his son, John Francis Del Monte, in 1972, and his wife, Josephine Sorbo Del Monte, in 1999.
Surviving are two sisters, Cora Rabbio and Lena Schavone of Utica, N.Y.; two sisters-in-law, Mary Sabo and Jeanette Sorbo, both of North Plainfield; and several nieces and nephews in Utica, N.Y.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Higgins Home For Funerals, 461 Somerset St., North Plainfield. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Woodland Avenue, Scotch Plains. Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
