Mrs. Jessie Kelly dies at age 87 in nursing home
HOLMDEL - Services were held Monday for Mrs. Jessie Kelly, 87, of 665 Summer St.
Mrs. Kelly died Thursday at the Garden State Manor Nursing Home.
She was buried at Cedarwood Cemetery, Hazlet.
She was born in Delaware County, N.Y., and lived in the Elizabeth area for most of her life.
Her husband, Joseph, died in 1966.
Surviving are four grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren,
and eight great-greatgrandchildren.
The Bedle Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of the arrangements.

Services held for Viola Dorr, 55-year resident
KEYPORT - Services were held Monday for Mrs. Viola Dorr of 14 West Third St., a 55-year resident of the Bayshore.
Mrs. Dorr died Saturday at the age of 72.
She was buried at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet.
She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the American Legion in Union Beach.
She is survived by three sons, Kenneth of Keyport, Charles of Port Monmouth, and Edward of Union Beach; two daughters, Mrs. Dolores Boughterty of Aberdeen and Mrs. Viola Brown of Florida; a sister, Mrs. Florence Schafer, of Elizabeth; 20 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Thomas Catterson, general custodian, dies at age 86
HAZLET - Thomas Catterson, a 30-year township resident, was to be buried today at Calvary Cemetery, Long Island.
Mr. Catterson, who resided at Union Avenue, died Monday at the age of 86.
He was born in Brooklyn and worked as a general custodian.
There are no known survivors.
The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, is in charge of arrangements.

David Sands dies at 88; served on school, plan boards
Published Nov. 8, 1978
UNION BEACH - Services were to be conducted this morning for David Sands, 88, of 187 Morningside Ave., a former Board of Education and Planning Board member who died Saturday at Riverview Hospital, Red Bank.
Born in England, Mr. Sands to the United States from Scotland and lived in Union Beach for the past 53 years.
In 1922 Mr. Sands began working for the Gulf Oil Corp. in Staten Island, where he organized and was president of the Petroleum Workers of America Internationa! Longshoremen's Assn. He retired in 1955.
He served on the school board from 1943 to 1946, and on the Planning Board from 1965 to 1967.
For 60 years, he was a member of the Crawfords Burn Lodge, Free and Accepted Masons, in Greenock, Scotland.
He would have been married for 63 years in January.
Surviving are his wife, Hannah; a son, Gordon, at home; and a daughter, Mrs. Davina Embier of Whippany.
Burial was to be at Shoreland Memorial Gardens, Hazlet.
The Bedle Funeral Home, Keyport, is in charge of the arrangements.

Violet Beake, English visitor, dies at age 67

ABERDEEN - Services were held Thursday for Violet Beake, 67, of 31 Elizabeth Kemp Ct., Ramsgate, England, who died Monday, Oct. 30, at S. Amboy Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Beake was visiting her children, Thomas Beake of Laurence Harbor and Mrs. Sheila Burlew of Cliffwood, at the time of her death.
Born in Scotstown, Scotland, Mrs. Beake lived in England for most of her life.
She was the widow of Ernest Beake.
Besides her son and daughter, she is survived by two other sons in England, Colin and Derek; a brother and four sisters in England; and 11 grandchildren.
The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of the arrangements.

Rev. Richard Calligaro dies; services held at Holy Family

MARLBORO - A mass was said yesterday at Holy Family Church, Union Beach, for the Rev. Richard Calligaro, 78, of Brown Road, who died Friday at his home.
Born in Buta, Italy, Mr. Calligaro came to the United States in 1927.
He served the church in Irvington, Paterson, Newark, and Union Beach.
He attended the Seminary of the Diocese Udine, Italy, and was ordained June 14, 1924.
He served three years there before coming to America to work with Italian immigrants.
His first assignment was to St. Leo's Church, Irvington, and from there he went to St. Michael's Church, Palerson.
In 1938, he was assigned to the Mt. Carmel parish, Newark, where he served as an assistant for five years before becoming the parish administrator in 1943.
Retiring in 1968, Mr. Callifaro assisted for nine years at Holy Family Church.
He is survived by three sisters in Italy, Mrs. Angela Cecotto, Mrs. Anna Del Fabro, and Lucia Calligaro.
Mr. Calligaro was buried at St. Gabriel's Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by the Day Funeral Home, Keyport.

Mrs. Mabel Goldsmith dies; 30-year resident of Holmdel

HOLMDEL - Services were conducted Friday at the Holmdel Community Church for Mabel Goldsmith, Mabern Farm and Holmes Beach, Fla., a former township resident who died Tuesday, Oct. 31, at Sfienango Valley Osteopathic Hospital, Farrell, Pa.
Born in Fowler, Ohio, Mrs. Goldsmith lived in Holmdel for 30 years.
She was a member of the Fowler Christian Church in Ohio and the Holmdel Community Church.
She was a member of the Navesink Country Club, the Holmdel Republican Club, and the Republican Women of Monmouth Countv.
She was past regent of the Shrewsbury Town Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Mrs. Goldsmith was a graduate of the American College of Physical Education, Chicago, and held a master's degree from Columbia University.
She retired in 1969 after 32 years as a physical education teacher in Orange and in the Bradenton, Fla., school districts.
She is survived by a niece and a cousin.
Burial was at Holmdel Cemetery.
The Adams Memorial Home, Red Bank, was in charge of the arrangements.

Patricia Murphy dies at 17; mass said at St. Joseph's

KEYPORT - A mass was said Friday at St. Joseph's Church for Patricia Murphy, 17, of 78 Second St., a Keyport High School senior who died Monday, Oct. 30, at her home.
Born in Jersey City, Miss Murphy moved to Keyport 11 years ago.
She was a parishioner of St. Joseph's Church and Immaculate Church and was active in the high school co-op.
Surviving are her parents, Mr. and Mrs Richard Murphy; two brothers, John of Keyport and Steven, at home; four sisters, Grace of Daytona Beach, Fla., and Valerie, Sheila, and Janice, all at home; her maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Pacella of Jersey City; and her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary Murphy of Jersey City.
Burial was at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
Arrangements were made by the Bedle Funeral Home.

Service for S. Hassell, once of area

EAST LAKE, N.C. - Services were conducted Saturday for Samuel Hassell Sr., 69, of Route 64, a former Union Beach resident who died Tuesday, Oct. 31, at his home.
Born in North Carolina, Mr. Hassell was a retired laborer and a World War II Navy veteran.
He is survived by two sons, Samuel Jr. and Dean, both of Union Beach; two daughters, Mrs. Martha DiFedeli of Colts Neck and Mrs. Alice Long of Union Beach; 14 grandchildren; and a greatgrandchild.
Burial was at Cloverleaf Memorial Park, Woodbridge.
The Day Funeral Home, Keyport, was in charge of the arrangements.
