James T. "Bucky" Simmons, Sr. age 76 of Sewell, NJ on Friday June 30, 2006. Born in Camden, lived in Gloucester City before moving to Sewell in 1954. He was a Staff Sergeant in the US Army, 64th Field Artillary Group of the 25th Infantry Division during the Korean War and was a Staff Sgt in Army Reserves from 1953 to 1959. In 2000 Mr. Simmons was recognized as a Paul Harris Fellow of the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International in Evanston, IL.

Mr. Simmons had worked for Best Foods as a Sales Representative for 13 years before retiring in 1995. Prior to Best Foods he worked for the Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. for 34 years, the last 12 years as store manager serving in Blackwood, Southwood, and retiring from Cape May Court House in 1982.

Former member of Parents Association of the Clark House in Deptford, former member of retail clerks Union-AFLCIO Local # 1360 in Pennsauken, and a member of Gloucester County ARC.

Beloved husband of the late M. Roberta "Bert" Simmons. Dear father of James T. Simmons, Jr. and his wife Nancy of Linden, NJ, Gloria R. Williams and her husband Glenn of Millville, NJ, Glenn E. Simmons of Woodbury, NJ, Andrew Simmons and his wife Sally of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, and the late Thomas Simmons. Brother of Mary Woltz of Williamstown, NJ, loving grandfather of Susan Goff of Vancleave, MS, Kimberly and Andrea Williams both of Millville, NJ and T J and Sarah Simmons both of Egg Harbor Township, NJ and great grandfather of Jacquelyn and Stephanie Goff both of Vancleave, MS.

Relatives and friends may visit with the family from 6 to 9 PM Wednesday and from 9 to 10 AM Thursday at the SMITH FUNERAL HOME 47 Main Street, Mantua, NJ 08051. Services will be on Thursday July 6, 2006 at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow in the Eglington cemetery, Clarksboro, NJ.

Doris E. Conn (nee Kammerer), age 82 of Pitman, and formerly of Mantua, NJ died Saturday, July 1, 2006.

She was retired from the shipping department at RCA in Camden, NJ where she worked for over 40 years and she enjoyed working at her family’s farm stand.

Doris served in the Women’s Marine Corps during World War II and was a life member of the Women’s Marines Association - Garden State Chapter.

She was a member of the Mantua United Methodist Church and was a Sunday School teacher for many years.

She loved to travel and enjoyed reunions with her Pitman High School, Class of 1942.

She is survived by brother: Wilbert Kammerer of Mantua, sisters: Anna Miltiades of Glen Burnie, MD, Claire Brooks of Columbus, NJ, Judith Bufala of Sewell & Patricia Kohler of Mt. Laurel, NJ and many nieces & nephews.

She was pre-deceased by her husband William Conn, brothers Carl & Howard Kammerer and sisters Marie Lang & Katrine Tunnicliffe.

Relatives and friends may visit with the family 7-9 pm Thursday, July 6 at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Mantua, NJ where funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday.

Interment will be in Eglington cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to United Methodist Church Of Mantua, 201 Mantua Blvd., Mantua, NJ 08051 to be used for children´s programs.

Harry A. Schroeder, age 91 of Wenonah, NJ died Wednesday, June 28, 2006 at home.

Born in Philadelphia, he had been a resident of Wenonah since 1950. He was a graduate of Woodbury High School where he developed an interest in the printing business as editor of the high school’s White and Gold paper. He learned the printing trade at the former Gloucester County Democrat and then worked for the Courier-Post. He had also been composing room foreman for the Mayfair Times and worked until retirement at the former Woodbury Times.

Harry was drafted into the Army in 1940 and served overseas for 21 months, landing on Utah Beach on D Day+4. His active duty lasted 5 ½ years which was followed by 24 ½ years in the Active Reserves when he retired as Colonel.

Active in veterans activities, Harry was a life member of both Arthur Holeton American Legion Post 192 in Wenonah and Lawson-Cox VFW Post 7679 of Mantua. He was also a life member of Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and Reserve Officers Association (ROA) and he served on the retiree council at Ft. Dix, NJ.

Harry was also an advocate for Wenonah where he served on the Shade Tree Commission for over 30 years as a member and former chairman and he was a member of the Wenonah Fire Co. Auxiliary. He attended Glassboro 1st United Methodist Church, was a member of Oak Valley Friendly Seniors and was a former member of the the Friendship Force and Order of DeMolay.

He is survived by his wife MaryAlyce (nee Crunk) whom he married on June 30, 1943, daughters Janet Schroeder Meeks (and her husband Clifford) of Glassboro and Sue Schroeder Moseson of New York City, grandsons Kevin C., Jeffrey S. & Corey A. Meeks & great grandchildren Kevin, Madison & Andrew. He was predeceased by a brother, C. Arthur Schroeder.

Relatives and friends may visit with the family 6-9 PM Sunday and 10-11 AM Monday at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Mantua where funeral services will be held at 11 AM Monday. Margaret V. Ballard (nee Sailey), age 92 of Deptford Twp., NJ died Monday, June 12, 2006 in Camden.

Born in Trenton, she resided in Pennington most of her life and was a Deptford Twp. resident for the past 6 years.

She was retired from the NJ State Police in Ewing, NJ where she had worked in the crime reporting unit.

Margaret enjoyed cooking, baking, reading, square dancing and sewing.

She lived a long and blessed life and will be missed by those who love her.

Daughter of George and Margaret Sailey, she was happily married to the late Frank W. Ballard for 50 years and she is survived by her children Ellison A. Ballard of Pitman and Judith A. Ballard of Deptford, grandchildren Ronald A. Pulone (and his wife Cindi) of Auburndale, FL., Darryl Pulone of Gloucester and Jennifer Ellick (and her husband John) of West Deptford & great grandchildren Kevin Pulone & Alexiss and Hailey Allen.

Howard A. Giles, Jr., age 75 of Wenonah, NJ died Tuesday, February 9, 2010. Born in Philadelphia, he was a retired Management Consultant and served in the US Air Force in Germany during the Korean War.

Howard was a fan of the Philadelphia professional sports teams and also enjoyed watching Villanova and Duke basketball.

In the past, he coached baseball and basketball for the Oak Valley AA.

More recently he could be found supporting his grandchildren’s activities and he looked forward to “grandbabies weekends”.

Husband of Betsy (nee Kelso), he is also survived by his children: Andy (& wife Dafina), Kevin (& wife Eileen), Michael (& wife Stephanie) Tim (& wife Donna), Patti McDonnell (& husband Joe), Kelli Law (& husband Chris) & Jamie (& wife Gina), 22 grandchildren, Meaghan, Joey, Kelsea, Lauren, Ryan, Sean, Erin, Aidan, Cailin, Riley, Bevan, Jadan, Leah, Katja, Ciaran, Relic, Rogan, Taryn, Matthew, David, Bohdie, Talon & sisters: June Maxim, Barbara Lewis & Nancy Willis. He was predeceased by sister, Dorothy Toomey. Relatives and friends may visit with the family 8:30-11:30 am Tuesday, February 16 at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Mantua, NJ followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 12 noon at Church of the Incarnation.

Interment will be in Gloucester County Veterans cemetery.

Mrs. DeMarco was born in Philadelphia, and graduated from West Catholic Girls High School in 1948. She was a member of the Barnsboro Fire Company Auxiliary and worked for the Board of Elections in Mantua Township and Tri-County Orthopaedics in Washington Township.

Wife of the late Peter P. DeMarco, she is survived by two daughters Annmarie (Michael) Clancy, Barbara DeMarco, a son Paul DeMarco all of West Deptford, 6 grandchildren Krista Mitcham, Sean Mitcham, Michael Clancy, Shannon Clancy, Alyssa & Zachary DeMarco, one sister Dolores (Alfred) Bertolino of Broomall, PA, one brother John (Kathy) Fenuta of Drexel Hill, PA, many loving nieces, nephews, and their families.

She was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Mantua, a member of Woodbury Heights Senior Citizens, enjoyed bowling and playing pool.

Trips to the Camp & Retreat Center at Ladore annually where a favorite.

Wife of the late Albert B. Gesner, she is survived by daughter Susan Scott and her husband Greg of Aloha, OR, son Edward Schaufler of Horsham, PA, 6 grandchildren, step children, Scott Gesner and his wife Stella, and Bonnie Terreri and Anthony. Memorial Service will be held at Mantua United Methodist Church, 201 Mantua Blvd., Mantua, NJ on Friday Jan. 7th at 11 AM.

Luncheon following in McConnell Hall.

Husband of the late Irene he is survived by his loving children Petrow Nanas and his wife Meg of Mahwah and Katherine Bleier and her husband David of Deptford and his beloved grandson William Bleier.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 pm Saturday at Smith Funeral Home, 47 Main St. Mantua, NJ and 12:15-1 pm Sunday at St Thomas Greek Orthodox Church, 615 Mercer St. Cherry Hill, NJ where services will begin at 1:15 pm.

He was an avid Elvis fan. He is survived by three daughters Patricia Grow and her husband Duane, Christine Strockbine and her husband Ken, Theresa Ziegler and her husband Edward, husband of Patricia (nee Mihlebach), 6 grandchildren, Kelly, Robbie, Kyle, Kaitlyn, Danielle, and Courtney, 2 great grandchildren Joey and Paige, and brother Harry & his wife Rose.
