Joseph Jarock, 80, lifelong resident of Winslow, passed quietly into eternal rest on June 8, 2006.
He met his final challenge in typical fashion, head on and with valor looking it in the eye. It ravaged his body but never his spirit. A complex man of courage and passion, he could hate fiercely as he would love devotedly! To know him meant you understood him. When you understood him, you were able to love and appreciate him. He was loyal to those he loved even in conflict. That he was able for 30 years to rise above the cruelty of his illness is a testament to the power of good diet, herbs and bodybuilding as a way of life. (Thanks, Dad, for your example.)
A dedicated 54 year member of Pipefitters Local Union 322 “Best of the Best,” but little known is that he served honorably during World War II as a merchant seaman for Sun Oil in support of the U.S. Naval forces. Former President Franklin D. Roosevelt once stated, “(Mariner) have written one of its most brilliant chapters. They have delivered the goods when and where needed in every theater of operation and across every ocean in the biggest, the most difficult and dangerous job ever undertaken.”
Surviving him are: his two special ladies, Helen Vile of Winslow and his daughter, Marge Eveland of Toano, Va.; grandsons, Eric Joseph, Adam Joseph; granddaughter, Victoria Fearing; great-granddaughter, Oliva. He also cherished Helen’s granddaughter, Ashley Love and grandson Jacob Love, children of John and Nicole Love.
