Wall Township resident Margaret Ann Hyland died Thursday, Nov. 15 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

Born in Harrison, Mrs. Hyland lived in Wall for the past 30 years.

She was a graduate of the Pratt Institute, New York.

She was a homemaker.

She was a longtime communicant of St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake.

She was predeceased in 1990 by her husband, Dr. Thomas J. Hyland.

Surviving are her sister, Sr. Mary Loretto Fahey, South Orange, and 21 nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were from the OıBrien Funeral Home, Wall.

Harriet R. Kaney

Homemaker

Lakewood resident Harriet R. Morton Kaney, formerly of Manasquan, died Tuesday, Nov. 13 in Geraldine Thompson Nursing Home, Wall.

She was 84 years old.

Born in Neptune, Mrs. Kaney was a lifetime member of Manasquan before moving to Leisure Village, Lakewood, five years ago. She vacationed at her home in Largo, Fla.

She was a member of the Manasquan United Methodist Church.

She was predeceased in 1996 by her husband, James R. Sr.

Surviving are one son, James R. Jr., St. Petersburg, Fla., one daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Thomas E. Hurley Sr., Lakewood; six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the OıBrien Funeral Home, Brick Township.

Harold J. McCallum

Mummer

Spring Lake Heights resident Harold J. McCallum died Monday, Nov. 19 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

Born in Philadelphia, Mr. McCallum lived there and then in Nutley for 23 years before moving to Spring Lake Heights in 1984.

He had been employed for 33 years as a sales/service representative with George F. Pettinos Inc., Bala Cynwyd, Pa., retiring in 1989. Previously, he had been employed for 17 years with Baldwin Lima Hamilton Corp., Chester, Pa.

He was a member of St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake.

He was a member of the Philadelphia Mummers, the Old Guard, Point Pleasant, the American Foundrymanıs Association, and was a life member for 34 years of Elks Lodge No. 1290, Nutley.

Surviving are his wife, Eve Hogg McCallum; one son, William, Somerset; one daughter, Trisha McCallum Derby, Brick Township; one brother, Edward, Hampton, Va., and three grandchildren, Adam, Katie, and John.

Funeral arrangements are from the OıBrien Funeral Home, Wall Township. There are no visiting hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 24 in St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake.

Doris E. Hill

Former Manager

Brick Township resident Doris E. Hill, formerly of Brielle, died Thursday, Nov. 15, in her home.

She was 65 years old.

Born in Kearny, Miss Hill lived in Cedar Grove for many years before moving to Brielle in 1995 and then to Brick three years ago.

She was employed for 38 years with Bell Telephone, Roseland, retiring as a manager in 1991.

She was a communicant of St. Denis Church, Manasquan.

She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America, and enjoyed volunteering with the Brielle Womenıs Club.

She was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Hazel Hill.

Surviving are two sisters and one brother-in-law, Lois Glen, Brielle, and June and Lawrence Carroll, Melburne, Fla; three nieces and their husbands, Susan and Reynold Green, Linda and Arthur Brockie, and Thomas and Dorothy Glen; and seven great nieces and nephews, Thomas, Robert, Christopher and Kelly Glen, Jeffrey and Kyle Green, and Sean Welch.

Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Walter A. Meseck

Quality Control Engineer

Manasquan resident Walter A. 'Pop' Meseck died Wednesday, Nov. 14 in The Center for Hospice, Long Branch.

He was 89 years old.

Born in Jersey City, Mr. Meseck lived in Nutley for 30 years before moving to Manasquan many years ago.

He was employed as a quality control engineer with Westinghouse Corporation, Newark.

He loved the ocean and spent many hours at the Manasquan Inlet.

He was a Merchant Marine.

He was predeceased in 1983 by his wife, Gertrude; in 1997 by his step-daughter, Jean Bunce, and in 1995 by his dear friend and companion, Christina Knapp.

Surviving are one son-in-law, Eugene Bunce, Manasquan; three grandchildren, Carolyn Charpentier, Spring Lake Heights, Audrey Bohl, Cordova, Tenn., and Thomas Bunce, Alton, Ill.; five great-grandchildren, Justin Charpentier, Trevor, Tony, and Casey Bohl, and Megan Bunce; and four great-great-grandchildren, Allison, Zack, Tyler and Abigail Charpentier.

Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Mary R. Kenny

Loving Wife & Mother

Spring Lake Heights resident Mary Rose Cullinan Kenny, formerly of Staten Island, N.Y., died at home on Saturday, Nov. 10.

She was 89 years old.

She was predeceased by her husband James 22 years ago, and her son James 14 years ago. She is deeply missed by her children: Thomas, of Royal Oak, Mich.; Maryann Dreyer, of Brick; Michael, of Neshanic Station; and Elizabeth McNulty with whom she lived.

Very much devoted to her home, 'Nanny' is also survived by 14 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, 19 nieces and nephews, and abroad circle of family and friends here and abroad.

Born in Lowell, Mass., she moved to Staten Island in 1922, graduated from Curtis High School, and married James Francis Kenny at Sacred Heart Church in 1935. They raised their family on Staten Island as parishioners of Sacred Heart. She was a member of the mothersı guilds of Our Lady of Good Counsel and Sacred Heart School, as well at the parentsı associations of Augustinian Academy and Notre Dame Academy. She was dedicated to helping the Sisters of Charity of New York, Halifax, and Convent Station.

In 1987, she moved to Spring Lake Heights with her daughterıs family and was a communicant of St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake. In recent years, she continued to serve as a living example of faith-in-action for her family.

She was ever-present as the matriarch at family gatherings, and was admired for her great faith and goodness, touching the hearts of all who enjoyed her company. The last member of her generation, she took great pleasure in her active involvement in the lives of her extended family; as recently as two weeks ago, she traveled to attend her grandsonıs wedding. Her beautiful life will be a perpetual source of inspiration and guidance to all those who follow. Her presence and efforts will be sadly missed.

Frank Martinangelo

Business Owner

Spring Lake Heights resident Frank Martinangelo died Sunday, Nov. 18 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 88 years old.

He was born in Elizabeth and moved to Spring Lake Heights in 1953.

He served during World War II in the Army Air Corps and was part of the Normandy Invasion.

He was employed by Grammer, Dempsey, and Hudson as a truck driver. He owned and operated Melaıs Luncheonette in Spring Lake Heights from 1953 to 1965. He was also employed by the Veterans Affairs in Trenton.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Manasquan Post and held the position of treasurer.

He was predeceased by his parents, Maria Russo Martinangelo and Antonio Martinangelo, his stepmother, Maria Priolo Martinangelo, his brother, James Martinangelo, and three sisters, Antoinette Lombardo, Lucy Pedicano, and Ida Priolo. He was also predeceased by his son-in-law Anthony P. DeBella.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carmela Priolo Martinangelo, his daughter, Maria DeBella, and four grandchildren, Anthony F. DeBella and his wife Jacquelyn, of Laurel, Md., Justina DeBella Mammeri and her husband Abdul, of Parkville, Md., and Katherine and Joanna DeBella, of Spring Lake Heights. He is also survived by a sister, Josephine Engesser, of Holland, Penn.

Funeral arrangements were from the Meehan Funeral Home, of Spring Lake Heights.

Patsy F. Vitale

Truck Driver

Spring Lake resident Patsy F. Vitale died on Thursday,Nov. 15, at his home.

He was 90 years old.

Born and raised in Jersey City, Mr. Vitale lived in North Arlington for 40 years before moving to Spring Lake 15 years ago.

He was a truck driver for many years for Spector Freight in Secaucus, and retired in 1973.

He was a member of the New Jersey Teamsters Retiree Club, a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Jersey City Lodge 266.

He was a communicant of St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake where he was a member of SCAMP, St. Catharineıs Association of Mature Persons.

Surviving are his loving wife of 70 years Anna J. Falco, one son, Dr. Salvatore F., Spring Lake, one daughter Annette T. Bozza, Sea Girt, two brothers George, Pequannock, and Frank, Beverly Hills, Fla., and three sisters, Carmela Gagliardi, Manchester, Angelina DıAlessandro and Anna Carline, both from Scottsdale, Ariz. He also leaves six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Charlotte M. Astfalk Malone, of West Point Island, Lavallette, died last Wednesday at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood.

She was 87 years old.

She performed office work at Elizabethtown Gas Co., Elizabeth. She was a communicant

of St. Bonaventure Roman Catholic Church, Lavallette and a member of its Rosary Society and Choir. She was also a member of Lavallette Rescue Squad and the Lavallette Seniors.

Born and raised in Elizabeth, she lived there before moving to West Point Island in 1967.

Her husband, Michael, died in 1977.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathleen Thomas of Bridgewater, and Michelle Kinal of Roselle; a brother, Leonard Astfalk of Forked River, Lacey; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
