Charles D. Thompson

Regional Freight Solicitor

Brick Township resident Charles Daniel Thompson, whose daughter lives in Manasquan, died Monday, Dec. 10 in the Medical Center of Ocean County ‹ Brick Hospital.

He was 84 years old.

Born in Oakton, Va., Mr. Thompson lived in Bloomfield, Glen Ridge and East Brunswick, moving to Howell Township in 1960, and then to Brick.

He was a 1937 graduate of the University of Virginia, McIntre School of Commerce.

Mr. Thompson was employed in the rail freight transport business with Atlantic Coast Line, Washington, D.C., before transferring to the Georgia Railroad, New York City office in 1952. He was employed there for over 25 years as a regional freight solicitor, managing accounts from New York to Washington, D.C. He retired from the CSX/Family Lines [formerly Georgia Railroad] in 1979.

After his retirement, he became involved in the Howell Township Economic Development Committee, serving as Economic Development Director and secretary to the Howell Chamber of Commerce.

As a young man during the Depression, he worked with his fatherıs company delivering The Washington Star newspaper in Arlington and Fairfax Counties, Virginia.

He was a communicant of All Saints Episcopal Church, Lakewood, serving as a Sunday school teacher, church school superintendent, lay reader, and vestry member.

He was a member of the New York and Philadelphia Traffic Clubs.

Mr. Thompson was well known for his work with the Howell Recreation Commission and Little League organizations, and for his leadership of Boy Scout troops, in both Southard and Lakewood. He was an active supporter of education and became the first male president of Land OıPines School PTA. He was instrumental in the formation of the Rebel Booster Club, Howell High School, [then called Southern Freehold Regional High School].

He was predeceased by his parents, Lesley and Madeline Thompson.

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Mary Lilia Reaney Thompson; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Daniel and Angela, USAID, Kiev, Ukraine, and Timothy, Myrtle Beach, S.C.; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and John Gassner, Manasquan; one sister, Margaret M. Thompson, Mahomet, Ill.; and seven grandchildren, Taryn, Kimberly, Jennifer, and Travis Gassner, and Timothy, Charles and Sophia Thompson.

Funeral arrangements are from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan. A funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in All Saints Episcopal Church, Lakewood.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Thompsonıs memory may be made to the Memorial Fund of All Saints Episcopal Church, 213 Madison Avenue, Lakewood, 08701.

George H. 'Bud' Taylor, of LaBelle, Fla., formerly of Point Pleasant, died March 15 at Southwest Regional Medical Center, Fort Myers, Fla.

He was 78 years old.

He graduated from Point Pleasant Beach High School in 1941 and served in the Army during World War II. He later worked as a lobster fisherman at Bakerıs Lobsters and was foreman at the Coop Fisheries, Point Pleasant Beach. He later managed the Bakerıs Dozen Donut Shop, Brick.

He moved to Florida in 1983.

He was predeceased by a son, Gerald Ross Taylor; a stepdaughter, Linda Herkert; and a sister, Dorothy McKelvey.

Surviving are his wife of 25 years, Carol Todd Taylor; two daughter, Kathleen McLaughlin of Manasquan and Dawn Taylor of Pine Beach; three sons, Randolph Taylor of South Toms River; George Taylor of Lanoka Harbor, Lacey, and Wayne Taylor of Beachwood; a stepson, William Herkert of Toms River; a stepdaughter, Gail Rua of Manahawkin, Stafford; a sister, Doris Tritschler of Point Pleasant; two brothers, Ross and Horace Taylor of Florida; and 14 grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, American Diabetes Association or Holy Trinity Lutheran Church Building Fund.

Muriel Scott Darey, of Point Pleasant, died Saturday at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 95 years old.

She was a bookkeeper at Corenet Corp., Irvington for 15 years before retiring in the late 1970s. She also worked for Tyflex Corp., Newark, from 1940 to 1955. She was a member of First Congregation Christian Church., Irvington. She was an active member of Eye Openers, Point Pleasant.

Born in Irvington, she lived in Greenbriar I, Brick, before moving to Point Pleasant seven years ago.

Her husband, Arnold, died in 1965. She was also predeceased by a son and daughter-in-law, Frederick and Marie Darey; two daughters and son-in-law, Barbara Meyer, and Nancy and Harry Speiser; two brothers, William Scott Sr. and John Scott; two sisters, Mildred Melen Boardman and Ruth Bopp; two grandchildren, Harry John Speiser and Richard Cunningham; and a companion, Walter Beckman.

Surviving are five grandchildren, Richard Speiser and his wife, Ann, Point Pleasant, Dawn Cunningham of New York, Jenine Darey Meyer of Ocean Grove, Louise Errickson and her husband, Scott, of California, and Jay Mayer and his wife, Helen, of Florida; and six great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Coastal Caregivers of Ocean County or the First Congregation Christian Church, Irvington.

Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Route 88, Brick, is taking care of the arrangements.

Edward Stuart, of Point Pleasant Beach, died last Thursday at Laurelton Village Nursing Home, Brick.

He was 90 years old.

He was a brewer at Anheuser-Busch, Budweiser, Newark. He was a member of St. Peterıs Roman Catholic Church, Point Pleasant Beach, and a former member of All Saints Roman Catholic Church, Jersey City.

Born in Jersey City, he lived there before moving to Point Pleasant Beach 10 years ago.

Surviving are his wife of 71 years, Margaret Seibert Stuart; two sons, Edward Joseph Stuart of Point Pleasant Beach, and George W. Stuart of Jersey City; a sister, Mae Lardire of Lakewood; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Ave., Point Pleasant Beach, is handling the arrangements.

Jane I. Wheeler, of Brick Township, died Tuesday at Brick Hospita.

She was 72 years old.

A restaurateur, she owned the Normandy Inn in Normandy Beach for forty years, along with her late husband Jospeh.

Born in Point Pleasant Beach, she was a lifelong area resident. She was a graduate of Point Pleasant Beach High School and was a member of the Rider College Class of 1948.

She was school secretary at Point Pleasant Beach High School before marrying. She worked as a bookkeeper for Aggressive Enterprises in Sea Girt, then at Warner, Berman and Spitz, Wall Township. She was employed by Richard Withington Jr., Counsellor at Law, Point Pleasant, before retiring in 1998. She was also a realtor associate at RiverEdge Realty, Point Pleasant.

She was a member of the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church for more than 50 years.

She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, Joseph E. Wheeler, in 1999. Surviving are two daughters, Sue Clouston, Point Pleasant, and Linda Wheeler, at home; and one grandson, Joshua Wheeler.

Friends may call at the Pable-Evertz Funeral Home, 901 Beaver Dam Rd., Point Pleasant, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Services will be held Saturday at noon in the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery, Brielle. Contributions may be made to the endowment fund of the Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church, Bay and Forman avenues, Point Pleasant Beach.

Gwyn 'Dusty' Dunston Jr., of Point Pleasant, died Wednesday at home.

He was 72 years old.

He was a salesman for Post Lumber Co., Point Pleasant Beach for 15 years. He was also a self-employed architect in Point Pleasant and had worked for Blackstone & Simpson Bldg. & Supply Co., East Brunswick as a salesman, retiring nine years ago. He served in the National Guard. He was a former member of the Point Pleasant Lions Club. He served on the Planning Board of Point Pleasant and was a former councilman in Point Pleasant from 1970 to 1972. He was a communicant of St. Peterıs Roman Catholic Church, Point Pleasant Beach.

Born in Philadelphia, he lived in Brick before moving to Point Pleasant in 1967.

His wife, Naomi 'Bunny' Dunston, died in 1999.

Surviving are five sons, Wayne, Thomas, Steven, and Michael, all of Point Pleasant, and Kevin of Brick; two daughters, Michele Muso of Ocala, Fla., and Sharlene Dunston of Toms River; two brothers, Richard Dunston and Robert Dunston, both of Point Pleasant; two sisters, Dorothy Dunston and Bibby Ann Wack, both of Point Pleasant; and 13 grandchildren.

Viewing hours will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at Laurelton Memorial Funeral Home, 109 Pier Ave., Brick. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in White Lawn cemetery, Point Pleasant.

Frank E. Heine

Attorney

Spring Lake resident Frank Heine died Friday, May 31 in his home.

He was 78 years old.

Born in Orange, Mr. Heine lived in Spring Lake since 1927.

He graduated from St. Rose High School in 1941 and then went on to attend Seton Hall University and the University of Florida, graduating from the University of Florida. Continuing his education, he later attended Seton Hall University Law School.

He served as President of Heine and Murray, Lawyers and Certified Public Accountants of Spring Lake since 1956. He was the former Attorney of the borough of Spring Lake as well as former Planning Board Attorney for Spring Lake.

He was a parishioner of St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake, where he served as an usher for many years as well as the past president of the Holy Name Society.

He was a member of the New Jersey Bar Association, the South Monmouth Bar Association and the Spring Lake Community House Council He was a member as well as Council of the Spring Lake Golf and Country Club and the Council of the Monmouth County 200 Club.

Mr. Heine was a veteran of World War II, serving his country in the Army from 1942 to 1945, with the 94th Infantry Division from Normandy Beach to Czechoslovakia. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 432 of Spring Lake.

He was pre-deceased by his first wife Helen M. (Everitt) Heine in 1990, and also by his brother, George G., earlier this year.

Surviving are his wife Joan D. (Pedley) Heine; four sons, Robert M. and his wife Mary Grace of New York City, John M. of Chicago, Ill., Francis E. and his wife Kathy of Spring Lake, and Paul A. of Asbury Park; a daughter, Jane L. Heine and her husband John Lee of Wilmette, Ill.; two step-sons, Kevin B. Kernan and his wife Deborah of Chevy Chase, Md. and Keith W. Kernan and his wife Suzanne of Manasquan; a step-daughter, Kara L. Sheehan and her husband Kevin M. of Bethesda, Md.; three brothers, Edward J. and Richard P., both residents of Spring Lake as well as James E. of Wall; a brother-in-law Jack Everitt and his wife Gladys of South Amboy and 14 grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from OıBrien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

Contributions in Mr. Heineıs memory may be made to the Spring Lake First Aid Squad or the St. Catharineıs Church Restoration Fund.

William C. Waldeyer

Teacher & Business Owner

Manasquan resident William Waldeyer died Thursday May 30 in his home.

He was 61 years old.

Born in Long Branch, Mr. Waldeyer was a resident of Manasquan for 35 years.

A graduate of Asbury Park High School he then earned a degree in business as well as a minor in History from Colby College, Maine.

He taught Social Studies in Long Branch Middle School from 1962 until 1969. From 1970-1980 he was a career Guidance Counselor in the Asbury Park Middle School. He then went on to become the Director of Guidance in the Asbury Park Middle School from 1980 until his retirement in 1997. Mr. Waldeyer was a graduate teacher for both Montclair State College and Kean College.

Mr. Waldeyer was the founder and owner of B & B Trophy of Spring Lake Heights since its inception in 1975.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Manasquan.

Mr. Waldeyer was the past president and member of the Shore Baseball Umpires Association as well as the I.A.A.B.O. Basketball Officials. He served in the past as the chairman and member of the New Jersey Football Officials Association. He was a coach for the Manasquan-Brielle Little League and was a member of the Manasquan B.P.O.E. Lodge No. 2534.

He is survived by his wife Barbara Waldeyer; a daughter, Lisa W. and her husband Andrew L. Geissler of Colts Neck; a son, Robert W. and his wife Christine R. Waldeyer of Manasquan.; a brother, Richard R. and his wife Julie Waldeyer of Wall; five grandchildren, Sarah, Alexander, & Amanda Geissler, Joseph & Jessica Waldeyer; and two nieces, Debra Waldeyer & Amy Dienes.

Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Julia W. Jurewicz

Psychiatric Technician

South Amboy resident Julia Witkowski Jurewicz, whose daughter resides in Sea Girt, died on Saturday June 1 in the Holmdel Health Care Center.

She was 87 years old.

Mrs. Jurewicz was born and lived in South Amboy all of her life.

She was employed by the Menlo Park Diagnostic Center in Edison as a psychiatric technician before retiring in 1976.

She was a communicant of the Sacred Heart Church of South Amboy as well as a member of its Holy Rosary Society.

Mrs. Jurewicz was a member of the South Amboy as well as St. Maryıs Senior Citizens Club.

She was predeceased by her husband Connie B. Jurewicz in 1982; granddaughters, Julianna Jurewicz and Karen Farrell Hall; and great-granddaughter, Ashley Robinson.

She is survived by her two daughters, Cecelia Farrell of Sea Girt and Joan Brander of South Amboy; her son, Ralph Jurewicz of Thonatosassa, Fla.; her sister, Irene Avagliano of South Amboy; her brother, Eugene Witkowski of South Amboy; as well as nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral Arrangements were from the Kurzawa Funeral Home of South Amboy.
