Patrick J. Nelan

Bus Driver

Spring Lake Heights resident Patrick Nelan died Sunday, June 2 in the MediCenter of Neptune.

He was 95 years old.

Mr. Nelan was born in County Kerry, Ireland. He lived in Jersey City while summering in Spring Lake Heights from 1939 until he established residency in 1970.

He was a Bus Driver for Public Service in Jersey City for 40 years before retiring in 1969.

He was a Communicant of St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Shine Nelan; 3 sons, Patrick of Port Orange, Fla., Peter of Sayreville and, John of Wall; 3 daughters, Mary of Spring Lake Heights, Nora Slowinski of Spring Lake Heights and, Cathy Pluchino of Cary, N.C.; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are from the O運rien Funeral Home, Wall Township. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. today in the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake.

Edwin P. Gonzalez

Attorney

Asbury Park resident Edwin P. Gonzalez, whose son resides in Brielle, died Friday, May 31, in his home.

He was 77 years old.

Mr. Gonzalez was born in New York City. He lived there before moving to the Shore area 38 years ago.

A graduate of Fordham College, Bronx, N.Y. he was a member of the varsity basketball team. He then went on to graduate in 1951 from the Fordham Law School.

He was a self-employed attorney practicing civil law in New York City before he was appointed council for indigent defendants for over 20 years. In 1983 he was appointed to the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Gonzalez was member of the New York and Florida Bar Associations.

He was a member of the Manasquan Elks Lodge No. 2534 as well as the Manasquan V.F.W. Post No. 1838.

Mr. Gonzalez was an Army veteran of World War II. At 19 he was a Lieutenant Navigator who participated in bombing missions over Germany. This mission earned him a Air Medal with clusters, after his plane was shot down.

He is survived by his wife Ann Marie Restivo Gonzalez; two sons, Paul of Atlanta, and Peter of Brielle; and a daughter, Andrea M. Gonzalez of New York City.

Funeral Arrangements were from the O運rien Funeral Home, Wall Township. Interment with military honors took place at the New Jersey Veterans Memorial cemetery, Arneytown.

Donations in Mr. Gonzalez零 memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad Street., Shrewsbury, 07702.

Joyce Lansing Allen

Loving Mother

Wall Township resident Joyce Lansing Allen died Sunday, June 2, in her home.

She was 74 years old.

Mrs. Allen was born in Point Pleasant and was a long-time resident of Manasquan before moving to Wall.

She graduated from Manasquan High School and went on to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York City.

She was employed as a department manager for a major department store prior to becoming a homemaker.

Mrs. Allen was predeceased in 2001 by her husband, Frank W.

Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Frank Jr. and Anita, and George and Sun, all of Florence, Ky.; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Judith and Harry Martinson, and Suzanne Allen, all of Wall, Holly and Denis Hume of Lancaster, Pa., and Carol and Arthur Blair of Manasquan; five grandchildren, Erik and Jill Hume, Trevor Martinson, and Arthur Jr. and Christine Blair.

Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

John Pataranick

Supervisor

Wall Township resident John Pataranick died Monday, June 3 in the Care Center of Monmouth County, Geraldine Thompson Division, Wall.

He was 82 years old.

Mr. Pataranick was born in Landsford, Pa. He had previously lived in Jersey City and Bayonne prior to moving to Wall. He had resided in Wall for 20 years.

He was employed as the Supervisor of Maintenance Division, Westinghouse Electric Company, Jersey City, for 43 years before retiring in 1981.

Mr. Pataranick was a communicant of Holy Innocents Church, Neptune.

He was a bowling team member.

Mr. Pataranick was predeceased in 1967 by his son, John Louis.

Surviving is his wife, Louise Salerno Pataranick; and one sister, Helen Rucci, Jersey City.

Funeral arrangements are from the O運rien Funeral Home, Wall. The funeral service will be held at 9:15 a.m. today in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Innocents Church, Neptune.

Enrique Pardon

Orthopedic Surgeon

Wall Township resident Enrique 'Henry' Pardon, M.D. died Tuesday, June 4 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 77 years old.

Dr. Pardon was born in Lima, Peru. He emigrated to the United States in 1955, gaining citizenship in 1960.

He was trained as an orthopedic surgeon at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch and earned a fellowship in orthopedic surgery from Instituto Ortopedico Rizzoli, Bologna, Italy.

Dr. Pardon was employed by the Jersey Shore Medical Center for over 33 years, serving as the director of the department of orthopedic surgery, as well as the director of the department of rehabilitation medicine. He practiced orthopedic surgery in Asbury Park, moving to Spring Lake in 1980.

As organizer of the Spina Bifida clinic and cerebral palsy clinic, Long Branch, Dr. Pardon was most proud of his contributions to the children. He was also a board member of the New Jersey Crippled Children零 Clinic, Newark.

Dr. Pardon served as a lieutenant in the medical corps of the Peruvian Police Corps.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn Haag Pardon; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Enrique 'Rick' Pardon, Wall, and Drs. Paul and Irene Pardon, Long Branch; a daughter and son-in-law, Marisa and Stephen Hunt, Spring Lake; four grandchildren, Shaun and Lily Hunt, Max and Devin Pardon; and two brothers Carlos and Mario, Lima, Peru.

Funeral arrangements are from O運rien Funeral Home, Wall. The visiting hours will be 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today in the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. tomorrow in the funeral home.

Margaret Salerno

Seamstress

Wall Township resident Enrique 'Henry' Pardon, M.D. died Tuesday, June 4 in the Tower Lodge Care Center, Wall.

She was 99 years old.

She was born in Sleepy Hollow, N.Y. She resided in Jersey City until moving to Wall five years ago.

Mrs. Salerno was employed as a seamstress for Hudson Pants Company, Jersey City. She was also a member of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union, New York City.

A former parishioner of St. Paul零, Jersey City Mrs. Salerno also attended St. Denis, Manasquan, while residing in Wall.

She was predeceased by her husband, Frank Salerno; her son Frank Salerno Jr.; two daughters, Gloria Vasco and Caroline Broslawski.

Surviving are her daughter Maree Gibson, Aventura, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Carol Salerno, Brielle; six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews in Monmouth and Ocean Counties and Kearny.

Funeral arrangements are from O運rien零 Funeral Home, Wall. The visiting will be 2-4 p.m and 7-9 p.m. today in the funeral home. A funeral mass will be held at 9 a.m. tomorrow at St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake. Interment will follow in Long Island National cemetery, Pinelawn, Long Island, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be meade in Mrs. Salerno零 memory to the Tower Lodge Care Center, Wall.

William H. Brown

Loan Specialist

Wall Township resident William H. Brown died Tuesday, May 29 in the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 76 years old.

Mr. Brown was born in Orange. He briefly lived in Bayonet Point, Fla., and Lakewood prior to moving to Wall, where he resided for 30 years.

He was employed by the Federal Department of housing and Urban Development as a loan specialist for 18 years. He retired in 1988.

A World War II Navy veteran, Mr. Brown was a member of the American Legion Post No. 346, Neptune.

He loved cheering on his three grandchildren in all their various sports, as well as entertaining everyone with his Donald Duck impression.

He was predeceased by his wife of 41 years, Esther Caprio Brown in 2001.

He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, William G. and Colleen, Wall; two brothers, Joseph, Sicklerville and Kenneth, Colorado Springs, Colo.; granddaughters, Caitlin and Christina; grandson, William; six sisters-in-law, Theresa Brown, Erika Brown, Genevieve Messina, West Orange, Livia Di Norcia, West Caldwell, Ria Zuckerman, West Orange, Yolanda Caprio, Lakewood.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 8 at St. Margaret Church, Spring Lake.

Dorothy E. Blair

Port Saint Lucie, Fla. resident Dorothy E. Blair, formerly of Manasquan, died Saturday, July 27 in the Life Care Center, Port Saint Lucie, Fla.

She was 84 years old.

Mrs. Blair resided in Manasquan prior to moving 11 years ago to Port Saint Lucie, Fla.

She had attended Port Saint Lucie Christian Church. Mrs. Blair was a member of the First Aid Ladies Auxiliary, as well as the Fire Company No. 2 Ladies Auxiliary, Manasquan.

She was predeceased by her husband, Howard.

Surviving are her two sons, Robert H., Port Saint Lucie, Fla., and Arthur W., Manasquan; daughter, Janet Elberson, Port Saint Lucie, Fla; five grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are from the Forest Hills Memorial Park and Funeral Home, Palm City, Fla.

Mary M. Steines

Spring Lake resident Mary McCormack Filan Steines died on Friday, July 26 in the Sunnyside Manor Nursing Home, Wall Township.

She was 94 years old.

Mrs. Steines was born and had resided in Springfield. She had resided in Irvington as well as Spring Lake Heights prior to moving to Spring Lake 40 years ago.

For 39 years, Mrs. Steines was an administrative assistant at Prudential Life Insurance Company, Newark, prior to her retirement in 1963.

She was a faithful member of St. Catharine Church, Spring Lake.

She was predeceased in 1975 by her first husband, Michael A. Filan and in 1991 by her second husband, Henry Steines. In 1999 she was predeceased by her brother Edward McCormack and by her sisters, Elizabeth McCormack in 1998, as well as Catherine McCormack in 1992.

Surviving are many cousins and friends.

Funeral arrangements were from the O運rien Funeral Home, Wall.
