Holmes L. Wilson, Jr.

New Smyrna Beach, Florida resident Holmes L. Wilson, Jr., formerly of Manasquan, died Tuesday, July 9 in the Halifax Medical Center, Dayton Beach, Fla.

He was 81 years old.

Mr. Wilson, Jr. was born in Allenwood, NJ.

He was predeceased by his wife Lillian Mary.

Surviving are two sons, Richard E., North Carolina and Holmes L. III, Florida, a daughter, Donna Turiano, Manasquan, NJ, two sisters, Emma Poland, Geraldine Warden, Pt. Pleasant, NJ, and seven grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements are from the Settle-Wilder Funeral Home.

Josephine Laub

Point Pleasant resident Josephine Laub(nee Werner) died on Monday, July 29 in the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 96 years old.

Ms. Laub was born in Hoboken, NJ, and has lived in Jersey City, before moving to Pt. Pleasant in 1942.

Ms. Laub was an employee at Olga Frocks in Point Pleasant in the 1940¹s, where she made quality dresses which were distributed around the country. She was also a homemaker for most of her life.

She was predeceased by her husband of 64 years, late Frederick Charles Laub Jr., who died in 1992.

She is survived by one daughter, Doris J. Geiges, Brielle, three grandchildren, John J. Geiges Jr., R. Todd Geiges, South Carolina, Janice K. Geiges, Morristown, NJ, and three great grandchildren.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, August 1, from 2-4 pm at Van Hise & Callagan Funeral Home, 812 Arnold Ave., Point Pleasant Beach. A service will be held on Friday, August 2, at the funeral home, followed by the burial at Greenwood cemetery, Brielle.

Eugene Gallagher, Sr.

Manasquan resident Eugene Michael Gallagher, Sr. died Monday, July 29, in his home.

He was 68 years old.

Born in Newark, Mr. Gallagher resided in Manasquan for 30 years.

He was a Systems Technician for AT &T [now Lucent Technologies] for 37 years, retiring in 1989. For the past five years he worked as a crossing guard for the Manasquan Police Department.

He served on the Board of the Essex Division of the Federal Telephone Credit Union for many years.

He belonged to the Ironbound Irish, Newark, McGovern¹s Association, Newark, an Associate Member of the V.F.W. Post 1838, Manasquan, the B.P.O.E., Lodge 788, Bloomfield, B.S.A., Troop 40, Bloomfield, B.S.A., Troop 59, Manasquan, I.B.E.W. and the Telephone Pioneers of America. Mr. Gallagher served on the Irish Festival Committee at the Garden State Arts Center.

Mr. Gallagher was a parishioner of St. Denis Catholic Church, Manasquan and was a member of the Holy Name Society at St. Rose of Lima Church, Newark.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Thomas V. Gallagher, Jr., and John Gallagher.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carole Pickel Gallagher. Also, survived by 3 sons and daughters-in-law, Eugene M., Jr and Mary Anne Gallagher, N.J., Michael T. and Katherine Gallagher, N.C., John F. and Tracy Gallagher, Pa., one daughter and son-in-law, Kathleen and Peter MacDonald, N.J., two brothers, Edward and Peter Gallagher, N.J., two sisters, Maryann Freeman and Margaret T. Tansey, N.J.,and eleven grandchildren. He was also loved by many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, August 2, at 9:30 am at St. Denis Catholic Church, Manasquan, N.J. Burial will follow in St. Catharine¹s cemetery, Sea Girt. Visiting will be Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South St., Manasquan, N.J. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the V.N.A. of Central Jersey Hospice, 141 Bodman Place, Red Bank, N.J., 07701.

Martin J. Eagan

Spring Lake Heights resident Martin J. Eagan died Wednesday, Sept. 25 in Holmdel.

He was 75 years old.

Born in Newark, Mr. Eagan was a resident of Spring Lake Heights.

He was a graduate of Bloomfield High School, Class of 1945. He earned a bachelor's degree from Susquehanna University, Pennsylvania, where he played football under legendary coach Amos Alanzo Stagg, and completed graduate work at NYU.

He worked in marketing and advertising on Madison Avenue in the 1950s and 60s. He was employed in the advertising department of the Asbury Park Press in the 70s, and was employed as the marketing director of Marine Trading International, South Toms River, until his recent retirement last year.

He was an Army veteran, serving stateside following the end of World War II.

Marty was best known in the Manasquan area as the producer of the annual Manasquan High School Football Club video. For the past 15 years, Manasquan football players and their families were treated to an annual video shown at the post season dinner. More than just a highlight of the season's games, Marty's videos were a tribute to the small town virtue of a Saturday afternoon spent at Warrior Field with family and friends.

He was predeceased by his wife, Judith D. Eagan, in 1995, and by his parents, Martin and Florence McKenna Eagan.

Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, Christopher and Patricia, Sea Bright, Terence and Michelle, Shoreham, Vt., and Dennis and Nicole, Brielle; one daughter, Mary Faith Eagan, Fair Haven; and five grandchildren, Seamus, Kelley, Rachel, Ciara and Siobhan.

Funeral arrangements were from the O'Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

Carmen Michael Somma

Wall Township resident Carmen Michael Somma, known as "Mike" to family and friends, died Tuesday, Oct. 1 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 82 years old.

Born in Finderne, Mr. Somma lived in Bound Brook before moving to Wall 26 years ago.

He was the manager for over 25 years of Chitch's Restaurant, Bound Brook, retiring in 1975, and was employed with Wall Liquors after relocating to the area.

He was a communicant of St. Denis Church, Manasquan, and St. Joseph's Church, Bound Brook, and served as an usher in both parishes.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a torpedoman aboard the USS Fahrenholt DD491.

Mike was a hard working, quiet, and intuitive family man. He loved his wife, children, grandchildren, sports, music and family times, and loved watching his children and grandchildren in their various sporting events which he sometimes coached. He played the banjo and saxophone, and enjoyed golf. He was very proud of his service and of being a plankman on the Fahrenholt. He will be missed by all who knew him.

He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Marie D'Ambrosio Somma this past January, and by his parents, Nick and Katie Mangino Somma, and three brothers, Dominic, Tommy and Nicky.

Surviving are one son, Michael, and his wife, Cheryl, Campton, N.H.; four daughters, Jacqueline Somma, and her partner, Patricia Tully, Lakewood, Judy Kirby, and her husband, Lee, Manasquan, Frances DeBartolome, and her husband, Michael, Lincroft, and Joanne Malick, and her husband, Nick, Brick Township; two sisters-in-law, Chris O'Reilly, Brick, and Frances "Babe" Morris, Sea Girt; 11 grandchildren, Bryan, Marin, and Jaclyn Kirby, Kyle and Todd Somma, Michael, Gina and Angela DeBartolome, and Nicholas, Nicole and Kevin Malick; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements are from the O'Brien Funeral Home, Wall. Visiting will be 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home. A funeral service will be held at 9:45 a.m. tomorrow in the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in St. Denis Church, Manasquan.

Elvire C. Maes

Manasquan resident Elvire C. Maes died Tuesday, Oct. 1 in her home.

She was 95 years old.

A native of Zaffelare, Belgium, Mrs. Maes came to the United States in 1932. She resided in Paterson and summered in Manasquan, before moving permanently to Manasquan in 1963.

She earned a college degree in teaching while residing in Belgium.

She was a communicant of St. Denis Church, Manasquan, and was a member of the parish's Rosary Society. She also belonged to the Senior Citizens Group, the knitting club, and the Trinitarian Third Order.

She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Leon P. Maes; and two brothers and three sisters, all of Belgium.

Surviving are one son, Leon E., Ocean Township; two daughters, Suzanne M. Ryan, Ocean Township, and Mary M. Plaine, Manasquan; eight grandchildren, Joseph Ryan Jr., Maryanne Swenarton, John, Suzanne and Daniel Plaine, Mary Metcalf, and Leon and Deborah Maes; and four great-grandchildren, Mary Katherine, Timothy, Louis and Matthew.

Funeral arrangements are from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan. Visiting will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow in the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday in St. Denis Church, Manasquan.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Maes' memory may be made to St. Mary's Home for Children, c/o Sister Rita, St. Mary's Villa, P.O. Box 388, Bethlehem Pike 701, Ambler, PA 19002-0388.

Dorothy Ryan Sanders

Spring Lake Heights resident Dorothy Ryan Sanders died Saturday, Sept. 28 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 80 years old.

Born in Orange, Mrs. Sanders lived in West Orange before moving to Sea Girt in 1976, and then to Spring Lake Heights in 1986.

She was a communicant of St. Catharine Church.

Mrs. Sanders was active in her community, and was a member of the Fairway Mews 9-Holer Golf Club and Bridge Club.

She was predeceased in 1989 by her husband of 47 years, John F. Sanders.

Surviving are four daughters and two sons-in-law, Diane Boyle, and her fiance, Thomas Cullen, Wall Township, Susan and Nick Betlow, Montville, Jamie Sanders, Spring Lake Heights, with whom she lived, and Maryann and Jay Monaghan, Manasquan; seven grandchildren, Mark and Pam Betlow, Jon and Marni Betlow, Jennifer and Scott Sager, Erin and Ian Guthrie, Ryan and Jesse Monaghan, and Susan Sinsheimer; and four great-grandchildren, Emily, Lauren, Jake and Jordyn.

Funeral arrangements were from the O'Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

Contributions in Mrs. Sanders' memory may be made to St. John's Church, Newark.

Loretta V. Knospe

Manasquan resident Loretta V. Knospe died Sunday, Sept. 29 in Manor By The Sea, Ocean Grove.

She was 86 years old.

Born in Jersey City, Mrs Knospe resided there and in Greeley, Pa., before moving to Manasquan.

She was employed as a clerk with the Jersey City Board of Health in the 1970s.

She was a past president of the Greeley Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

She was predeceased by her husband, John Albert Knospe, and one granddaughter, Susan Happel.

Surviving are one son, Frederick, Creskill; two daughters, Marianne Rupertus, Manasquan, and Jacqueline Happel, Lafayette; one sister, Carolyn DeSpoto, Lakewood; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Contributions in Mrs. Knospe's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, 12 Roszel Road, Suite C203, Princeton, 08540.

Margaret Bakerian

Belmar resident Margaret Bakerian died Monday, Sept. 30 in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 70 years old.

Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Bakerian lived in Union City and Cranford before moving to Belmar in 1992.

She was employed for 15 years as an executive secretary with Schering Ploug Pharmaceutical, Kenilworth, before retiring in 1993.

She was a member of St. Stepanos Armenian Church, Elberon.

She was a past president of both the Parent Teacher Association of Cranford, and the Cranford High School Booster Club.

Surviving are her husband, Vasgen Bakerian; one son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Joanne, Whitehouse Station; one daughter, Sheri Bakerian, Fredricksberg, Va.; two sisters, Virginia Boyajian, Long Branch, and Beatrice Saporito, Moonachie; and four grandchildren, Robert, Allison, Lukas, and Matthew.

Funeral arrangements are from the Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar. Visiting will be 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m today in the funeral home. The funeral service will begin at the funeral home at 9:30 a.m. tomorrow, followed by a service at 10:30 a.m. in St. Stepanos Armenian Church, Elberon.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mrs. Bakerian's memory may be made to St. Stepanos Church, 1184 Ocean Ave., Elberon, 07740.
