Virginia Weiss

Manasquan resident M. Virginia Weiss died Tuesday, May 29, in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 87 years old.

Born and raised in Avon, she lived in Manasquan for the last 42 years.

She was a librarian in Belmar Grammar School and Wall High School.

She was well-known for her love of books, history, art, travel, crossword puzzles, and the New Yorker cartoons. She had an interest in animal welfare and worked to find homes for stray cats and dogs.

Mrs. Weiss is survived by a brother, Eugene Brown, W. Gloucester, Mass; two daughters Nancy Weiss, Holyoke, Mass. and Paula Kuenzler, Glastonbury, Conn.; and she leaves a kind and devoted family friend, Mary Jane Schaaf, Manasquan.

A memorial celebration will be held at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street, Manasquan on Friday, June 25 at 7:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Weiss’ memory may be made to the Humane Society, Bartley Square, 270 Route 206, Flanders 07836.

Ann Robinson

South Belmar resident Ann S. [nee Hugo]Robinson died Sunday, June 6 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 81 years old.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. and had lived in Jersey City before moving to South Belmar 31 years ago.

She was a communicant of St. Catharine’s and St. Margaret’s Parish, Spring Lake, the President of St. Catharine’s Association of Mature Persons, and a member of the Belmar Women’s Club.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 62 years, Edward T. Robinson Sr., former South Belmar Councilman; her loving sons and their spouses, Edward T. Jr. and Nine, Bayville, James and Rita, Paramus, Patrick and Carol, Union, Thomas and Sally, Charleston, S.C., John and Nancy, Charleston, S.C., Joseph and Rafelia, Manhasset, L.I., N.Y., Christopher and Heather, Trabuco Canyon, Calif.; her daughter and her husband, Anne Marie and Michael Kaufman, Sands Point, N.Y.; her two sisters Ester Leal, El Paso, Texas and Carmen Curry, Valley Stream, L.I.; a brother William Hugo, Pompano Beach, Fla.; and 12 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral services were from the O’Brien Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Robinson’s memory may be made to St. Catharine’s Restoration Fund, 215 Essex Avenue, Spring Lake 07762.

Elizabeth Lukas

Brielle and Manasquan resident Elizabeth “Betty” R. Lukas died Sunday, May 23 in Colts Neck Village Hospice.

She was 78 years old.

Born in Palisades. she summered in Brielle and Manasquan. She then lived in Manasquan for nearly 40 years, Fairvew Mews, Niceville, Fla., and finally Wall.

She was a housewife.

She found a passion for golf in her 40’s.

She was pre-deceased by her husband, Benedict in 2001 and her parents Gustave and Lucie Feuerbach.

She is survived by four children and their spouses Tom and Ann Lukas, Maine, Robert Lukas, Guam, Pamela and John Tully, Maryland, Christopher and Nancy Lukas, Belmar; seven grandchildren, Jesse, Ryan, Lindsay, Courtney, Jack, Margot, and Benjamin.

Funeral arrangements were from Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar, but at Mrs. Lukas’ request there were no services.

Howard Connors

Spring Lake Heights resident Howard F. Connors died Monday, May 31 in Liberty Royal Care Center, Tinton Falls.

He was 86 years old.

Born in Weehawken, he had lived in Palisades Park before moving to Spring Lake Heights 54 years ago.

He was a graduate of the Newark College of Engineering, Newark and then went on to service in the Air Force as a Pilot during World War II.

He had been employed as a Manager at the Transamerica Insurance Company for 50 years, before retiring in 1980.

He was also a member of the American Legion Post, Spring Lake.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Helene [nee Long] Connors; two songs Kent R. and Kevin II, Las Vegas, Nev.; two grandchildren and four great grandchidren.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall and were private at the convenience of the family.

Eileen Duffy

Avon resident Eileen Duffy died Tuesday, June 1 at her home in Avon.

She was 80 years old.

Born in Newark, she has lived in Avon for 49 years.

She retired in 1991 as a Court Clerk for Allenhurst and Avon Courts. Prior to this, she worked as a secretary for the Church of St. Elizabeth for 10 years.

She was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Church and a member of the Avon Leisure citizens club. She also volunteered at The Stella Maris retreat house in Deal for five years.

She was pre-deceased by her husband Thomas A. Duffy, Jr.; one son, Martin T. Duffy; one brother, Harry O’Hare and one sister, Grace O’Hare.

Mrs. Duffy is survived by two sons, Michael K. Duffy, Neptune and Brian T. Duffy, Point Pleasant; two daughters, Maureen Wosnitzer, Cherry Hill and Margarat “Meg” Faria, Avon; one brother, Edward O’Hare, Livingston; three sisters, Anne Moore, Wall, Janet Chiaravallo, South Belmar, Patricia Formisano, Basking Ridge; and four grandchildren, Shannon Carroll, Brian Wosnitzer, Kevin and Kayla Duffy.

Funeral arrangements were from the Reilly Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Duffy’s memory may be made to Avon First Aid or Avon Fire Department.

Maureen Andes

Belmar resident Maureen C. Andes died Tuesday, June 1 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 75 years old.

Born in Jersey City, she lived in Union City before moving to Belmar in 1977.

She was pre-deceased by her husband William in 1992.

She is survived by three daughters and two son-in-laws, Joan and Eric Auerbach, Wycoff, Kathleen Andes with whom she lived with in Belmar, Maryann Bianchini and Robert Mitchell, Sugar Grove, IL; and three grandchildren, Richard and Taylor Bianchini and Ian Auerbach.

Funeral arrangements were from the Reilly Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Andes’ memory may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Robert Yehle

Former Belmar resident Robert Yehle died Saturday, May 29.

He was 48 years old.

Born in Newark, he lived in Belmar and Bedford, Va.

He was a former member of the Union Fire Company, Belmar and he was a Union Mason Brick-layer.

He was pre-deceased by his father William Earl Yehle.

He is survived by his mother Elizabeth Mary Golden Yehle, Howell; his son, Travis Robert Yehle, Virginia; his daughter, Jennifer Lynn Yehle, N.J.; his grandchild, Ashley Bove; two sisters, Karen Ann Foran and her husband Mike, Howell and Rosemary T. Scott, Wall; and a brother, Joseph W. Yehle Sr., Wall.

Services will be held at St. Dominic’s Catholic Church, Brick, at 10 a.m. Monday, June 14. Arrangements are from Carder-Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory, Bedford. To send condolences, please visit www.cardertharp.com

James Anderson

Former Spring Lake Heights resident James Forrest Anderson died Wednesday, June 2 in his home in Wapiti, Wyo.

He was 68 years old.

Born in Neptune, he grew up on the N.J. Coast before moving to Wyoming to enjoy the hunting, fishing, and being in the mountains.

He worked as a commercial fisherman and also in a family owned fish market in N.J. He was a volunteer fireman for 19 years in Spring Lake Heights. He worked at Y-Tex upon moving to Wyoming until he retired. He also worked part-time at the Wapiti Lodge.

He was a life member of the NRA, NAHC, and the N.J. Fireman’s Association. He was also a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundations.

Mrs. Anderson is survived by his wife Nella; two sons, James V. Anderson, Rendono Beach, Calif. and Edward S. Anderson, Wichita Falls, Texas; father Forrest Anderson, N.J.; brother, Donald. W. Anderson, Oceanside, Calif.; and five grandchildren.

Funeral services were from the Ballard Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Anderson’s memory may be made to the Hematology Oncology Centers of the Northern Rockies or the Spirit Mountain Hospice.

Lucy Welsh

Former Neptune resident Lucy Dabov Welsh died Monday, May 31 at Lake Harris Health Center, Leesburg, Fla.

She was 85 years old.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa. she lived in Neptune before moving to Florida 30 years ago.

She was pre-deceased by her husband Pierce Welsh, Sr.

Mrs. Welsh is survived by two daughters, Susan White Dunfee, Summerfield, Fla. and Jean Welsh Suen, Leesburg, Fla.; two sons, Thomas Patrick Welsh, L.A., Calif. and Pierce Welsh Jr., Palatka, Fla.; eight grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were e from the Reilly Funeral Home.

Bernardine Herrmann

Spring Lake Heights resident Bernardine C. [nee Cunningham] Herrmann died Friday, June 4 in her residence after a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis and Cancer.

She was 70 years old.

Born in Jersey City, she has lived in Spring Lake Heights for the past 18 years.

She was a graduate of St. Michael’s High School, Jersey City and attended three years of Art School in the Philadelphia Area.

She was a homemaker.

She was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Evelyn [nee Please]; her brother Harry Cunningham and her sister Dolores Foley.

Mrs. Herrman is survived by her husband of 34 years, John T. Herrmann; her brother Thomas Cunningham, Jersey city; her brother-in-law Edward Foley, Beachwood; sister-in-laws June Herrmann, Lyndhurst and Mary Buchanan, Narragansett, R.I.; her dear friend Rita Mizzoni, Spring Lake Heights and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were from the O’Brien Funeral Home.

Jean Edson

Spring Lake Heights resident Jean [nee Flyn] Edson died Thursday, June 3 at Tampa General Hospital, Tampa, Fla.

She was 73 years old.

Born in Queens, N.Y., she had lived in Crestwood and Clinton Corners, N.Y. and had maintained residences in Spring Lake Heights for the past eight years and also in Hutchinson Island, Fort Pierce, Fla. for the past 14 years.

She was a graduate of Marymount High School, N.Y.C. and the Fashion Institute of N.Y. in N.Y.C.

She had been a self employed artist her entire life until her retirement.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society, a communicant of St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake and also of St. Mark’s Church, Ft. Pierce, Fla.

Mrs. Edson is survived by her husband Kenneth T. Edson; her son Michael Edson, Millbrook, N.Y.; three daughters, Loraine Edson, Vero Beach, F la., Barbara Jean Mark, New Fairfield, Conn., and Carey Whalen, Millbrook, N.Y.; two brothers, Thomas Flynn Jr., Berwyn, Pa. and Rev. John Flynn, Bronx, N.Y.; a sister, Mary Ellen Loveless, Crestwood, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren.

Funeral services were from the O’Brien Funeral Home.
