Dorothy J. Stuber

Sea Girt resident Dorothy J. Stuber died Wednesday, Jan. 21, as a result of a traffic accident in Sea Girt.

She was 72 years old.

Dorothy had been employed as a media buyer for McCaffrey & McCall, NY. She was then employed as a legal secretary for Moore, Berson, Lifflander & Mewhinney, NY, retiring in 1990 after 20 years.

She was very active in Irish Heritage, playing bridge, tennis, the German Ski Cub, NY, and bowling.

Born in Brooklyn, she had lived in Stuyvesant Town and the Battery Park City sections of Manhattan for 20 years before moving to Sea Girt 12 years ago.

She was predeceased by her parents William and Dorothy Petersen Stuber.

Surviving are her brother William Stuber, Brooklyn; and her dear friends, Kathleen Harrison, Brooklyn, and Doris Jaudes, Manhattan.

Arrangements were under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township. A Requiem Mass followed at St. Uriel the Archangel Episcopal Church, Sea Girt.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn., 38105-1942.

Thomas P. “Pop” Anthony

Spring Lake resident Thomas P. “Pop” Anthony died Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 95 years old.

Mr. Anthony was the owner and operator of “The Camera House,” Lyndhurst, for 40 years, retiring in 1971. He was known as an incredible professional photographer.

Born in Jersey City, he had lived in Lyndhurst and Rutherford before moving to Spring Lake 43 years ago.

He was an accomplished musician and able to play any instrument, as a young man he was involved in a quartet and then formed a duet of the band known as the TipTop Boys. They had performed on radio, as well as live entertainment.

Mr. Anthony was a member of the Lyndhurst Kiwanis Club and the Lyndhurst Merchants Association. He was also a communicant of St. Catharine’s RC Church, Spring Lake, and volunteered at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, for many years.

His family said “Pop lived to make his family happy, loved a good meal, and shared his wonderful sense of humor with everyone.”

He was predeceased by his wife Evelyn M. Fox Anthony in 1998.

Surviving are his son William Hamilton, Rutherford; his daughter Marion A. Mullarkey, Spring Lake; his sister Iris Falcaro, Freehold; his granddaughters and their spouses, Kathleen and Michael Scotto, Eileen and Billy Cashman, Maureen and Edward Maypother, Kristine and Robert Forcillo, and Susan and Ken Koch; and ten great grandchildren.

Arrangements were under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Catharine’s RC Church, Spring Lake. Entombment at St. Catharine’s cemetery, Sea Girt.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Foodbank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, 3300 Highway 66, Neptune, NJ, 07753.

Stephen A. Sikora

Former Wall Township and Spring Lake Heights resident Stephen Anthony Sikora died Thursday, Jan. 22, at Shore Meadows Care Center, Toms River.

He was 75 years old.

Mr. Sikora was a self employed master carpenter for many years, and prior to this he was a master carpenter with Carpenters Local No. 2250, Red Bank.

He was a former member of Glendola Fire Co., the Belmar Elks Lodge, and had served as the Governor of the Pt. Pleasant Moose Lodge. He was also a member of the Dawn Patrol Golf Club and the American Locksmiths Association.

Mr. Sikora was an Army veteran, being honorably discharged in Sept. 1947.

Born in Newark, he lived in Wall Township for 35 years and then in Spring Lake Heights and Neptune before moving to Lakewood 11 years ago.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Audrey Howlett Sikora; two sons, Steve of Wall, and Douglas of Brick; two daughters, Mary A. LaPolla and Donna Campbell, both of Brick; three brothers, Raymond of Brick, Anthony, Newark, and Casmir, Wall; and five grandchildren, Steven, Paul, Nicole, David and Diana.

Arrangements were under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall. Interment was at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls.

Francis Xavier Kelly, I

Jersey Shore resident Francis Xavier Kelly, I, who has relatives that live in Manasquan died Wednesday, Jan. 21, at the MediCenter, Neptune City.

He was 77 years old.

Born in Jersey City, he had been a resident of the Jersey Shore since 1968.

Mr. Kelly was employed by Chase Bank, NYC in 1948 and was a supervisor in charge of Vital Records for 40 years. He also worked part time for the Rail Way Express and was a toll collector on the Garden State Parkway.

He was a communicant of Holy Innocents Church, Neptune. He was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Elementary and St. Michael’s High School, both in Jersey City. He joined the Navy in 1944 and served in the Pacific aboard the U.S.S St. Paul as Seaman First Class.

Mr. Kelly was predeceased by his parents, Bernard F. and Anne Hunter Kelly.

He is survived by his wife Carol Ann Strutt Kelly; four children, Annemarie and her husband Philip Schwier, Manasquan, Francis Xavier, II, and his wife Melissa Kelly of Collegeville, Pa., Eileen T. and her husband Christopher L’Heureux, Neptune, and Mary Margaret Kelly of Avon and her fiance Josh Lanzetta; his brother Thomas B. Kelly, Bradley Beach; two sisters, Sister Anne Bernard, SC of Elizabeth and Emily Kowalewski, Union. He was the grandfather of Philip Charles, Caroline Hunter Schwier, Daniel Xavier, Catherine Ann Kelly, Sara Grace, Janet Marie L’Heureux; he was also the uncle of 7 and the great uncle of 12.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar. A Mass of Resurrection followed at Holy Innocents Church, Neptune. Interment was at St. Anne’s cemetery, Wall Township.

In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated and can be made to the MediCenter, Activities Dept. 2050 6th Ave., Neptune City, NJ 07753.

Robert Edward Osborn

Former Manasquan resident Robert Edward Osborn died Wednesday, Jan. 14, in Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston.

He was born in Manasquan on Nov. 16, 1919 to Edward Mitchell and Evelyn T. York Osborn. His brother Donald Osborn, a three-term Mayor of Manasquan predeceased him.

Mr. Osborn was a graduate of Passaic High School, Hemphill Diesel School, NY, Polytechnic Institute, NY, and he also took extension courses in metallurgy and tool design at Rutgers State University. He earned his Captain’s papers from the U.S. Power Squadron. In 1981, he was voted a “member” of the American Association of Cost Engineers.

He worked for Curtis-Wright Aeronautica, Wood Ridge, for 25 years as a liaison tool engineer. He co-owned the Rutherford Pet Shop, owned the U-Drive Fishing Station in West Creek, and owned an excursion boat business. A man with a life-time love affair with seas and boats, in 1954 he handcrafted a 21 foot fiberglass boat named “The Half Shell.”

After retiring in 1982, he delivered Meals on Wheels for Ocean County Community Services for four years.

Mr. Osborn moved to Mashpee, Mass., and was active for 10 years on the Mashpee Council on Ageing, the Men’s Club, the Senior Walkers and Talkers Club and the Building Committee that reconstructed the new Mashpee Senior House.

He was predeceased by his second wife, Marian Captain Hodge Osborn, 1993.

Mr. Osborn is survived by his first wife, the former Nancie Poor Brown and their four children, York Edward Osborn, Rutherford, Susan Ann Osborn Manz of Pequannock, Betsey Lane Osborn Doherty, Remsenberg, NY, and Nancy Louise Osborn Doering of Southhampton, NY; 7 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three step-children, six grand-children and 3 great-grandchildren from his second marriage.

Arrangements were under the direction of the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, Mashpee, Mass. Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Saint Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 211 Main Street, Lincoln Park, and a service will be held at Saturday at 10:30 a.m., followed by a private interment at the Atlantic View cemetery, Manasquan.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Robert E. Osborn Memorial Fund, c/o Saint Andrew’s Church. The fund will benefit the Mashpee Senior House and Library and buy a tree for Saint Andrew’s Garden.

Louis S. Harris

Manasquan resident Louis “Louie” S. Harris passed away Saturday, Jan. 10, at his daughter’s home in Jamul, Calif.

He was born in Boston, Mass., and he lived in and loved Manasquan since 1964.

Mr. Harris was employed by Air Cruisers Co., Belmar, for over 25 years. He bartended part-time at Maria’s restaurant in Manasquan for many years.

He also coached St. Denis track during the 1970’s and was an Elks member for a number of years.

Mr. Harris was predeceased by his beloved wife, Barbara A. Harris, 1991.

He is survived by his four daughters, Mary Ann Johnson, Jamul, Calif., Bobbie Harris, Lake Shawnee, Jackie Hutchins, Manasquan, and Kim Grace, Jamul; and his 8 grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday at St. Denis Church, Manasquan.

Accu-Care Cremation Center, Calif., is handling the funeral arrangements.

Stuart Bruce

Wall Township resident Stuart Bruce passed away Monday, Jan. 26, at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Eatontown.

He was 74 years old.

Mr. Bruce retired in 1988 from Jersey Central Power and Light in Lakewood, as a meter supervisor after 41 years of service.

Mr. Bruce was a U.S. Army veteran during the Korean War from 1951 to 1953, where he received the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars: the United Nations Medal and the Combat Infantrymans Badge.

He was a 1947 graduate of Manasquan High School. He was also a devoted father, grandfather and was an avid fisherman and golfer.

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, he came to the U.S. in 1930, settling in Spring Lake before moving to Wall in 1965.

He was predeceased by his son Robert P. Bruce, 1997; his grandson Jonathon S. Bruce in 1990; and by his brother Douglas Bruce.

Mr. Bruce is survived by his wife Elizabeth Conaty Bruce of 53 years; his son Mark S. and his wife Deborah, Tinton Falls; his daughter Susan E. Bruce, Tinton Falls; and two grandsons, Matthew M. Bruce, London, and Samuel R. Bruce of Tinton Falls.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall. Interment will be private.

Donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Greater NJ Chapter, 117 Kinderkamack Road, Suite 104 River Edge, NJ 07661.

Ruth E. Conklin

Belmar resident Ruth Elizabeth Conklin passed away Sunday, Jan. 25, at the MediCenter of America, Neptune.

She was 84 years old.

Ruth was born in Elizabeth to Wildey and Emma Demarest. She resided in Elizabeth and Garwood before moving to Belmar in 1970.

She retired from NJ Bell Telephone after 32 years of service. She belonged to the Ocean County Volunteers for the Blind for more than 28 years as a certified braille transcriber and also worked as a volunteer at Jersey Shore Medical Center for many years.

Ruth was also a member of the VFW Auxiliary No. 335 in Cranford and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Manasquan.

She was predeceased by her husband Alanson Conklin in 1989; and her brother Weldon Demarest in 1998.

Ruth is survived by 5 nieces, Elizabeth Demarest of Avenel, Jane Hendrickson of Tinton Falls, Geraldine Resch, Belford, Barbara Stewart, Ohio, and Pat Webster, Loconia, NH; and a nephew, Edward Demarest, Pittsgrove.

A service will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan. Interment will follow in Glendola cemetery, Wall.

Richard D. Callahan

Avon-by-the-Sea resident Richard Daniel Callahan passed away Monday, Jan. 26, peacefully at home surrounded by his family. He fought a courageous battle with cancer and was supported by Susan Greenburg and staff and Joseph Mannion.

He was 73 years old.

Born in Jersey City, he had lived in Avon since retirement.

He was a retired banker, having worked in Bergen and Burlington Counties.

Mr. Callahan was a communicant of St. Elizabeth Church, and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

He was a loving husband of Nancy; a proud father and father-in-law to Kathleen Callahan, Margaret Callahan Bravacos and Chris Bravacos; he was a doting grandfather to Maggie, Callie, Katherine, Michael and Annie; he was a dear brother to Thomas and Joan; and he was a friend to many.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth’s, Avon, on Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 10:30 a.m. Expressions of sympathy may be directed to All Hollows H.S., 164 Walton Ave., Bronx, N.Y. 10452 or the Madonna House, Route 35 and 7th Ave., Neptune, NJ 07753.
