Mildred Burke

Scarsdale, N.Y. resident Mildred Byecroft Burke died Wednesday, March 17 in Sarah Neuman Nursing Home, Mamaroneck, N.Y.

She was 84 years old.

Born in Pennsylvania, she resided in Oakhurst for over 40 years before moving to Scarsdale four years ago.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband Glennon Burke.

She is survived by her two daughters and son-in-laws Linda and Fred Ball, Janet and Bob Hodnett; her two brothers Al Byecroft and Bill Byecroft; and her five grandchildren Becky, Christe, Shamus, Justin & Brendan.

Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Burke’s memory may be made to the Cancer Support Team, 875 Mamaroneck Ave., Mamaroneck, N.Y. 10543 or Catholic Charities, 145 Maple Ave., Red Bank, N.J. 07701.

George Roff

Spring Lake Heights resident George A. Roff died Saturday, March 20 in his home.

He was 87 years old.

Born in raised in Morristown, he lived in Spring Lake Heights for the past 21 years.

He was employed as a salesman at Crown Oil Co., Chatham for 20 years before retiring in 1984.

He was a member of the Holy Name Society at the Church of the Assumption, Morristown. He was also a communicant of St. Catharine’s & St. Margaret’s Parish, Spring Lake.

He was a member of the Manasquan Elks Lodge, the Flanders Valley Golf Club, the Fairway Mews Golf Club and a volunteer for the Spring Lake First Aid Squad Annual Fundraiser and had been the Fundraiser Treasurer for several years.

While residing in Morristown he was a founding member of the Morristown High School Tennis Team. He was a basketball star at MHS from 1933 - 1935. He was also active in Morristown Little League, American Legion Baseball and PAL Basketball, Morristown.

He was an avid fisherman, tennis player and golfer.

Mr. Roff is survived by his wife of 62 years Theresa (nee Rooney) Roff; his son and daughter-in-law George A. and Kathleen Roff, Ft. Washington, Md.; his daughter and son-in-law Carol and John Prendergast, Morristown; and his four grandchildren Hugh Prendergast, George III, Jonathan and Sarah Roff.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Roff’s memory may be made to the Spring Lake First Aid Squad, 311 Washington Ave., Spring Lake, N.J. 07762.

Betty Clark

Neptune resident Betty B. (Vetter) Clark died Saturday, March 20 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was 83 years old.

Born in Newark, she lived in Cliffside Park before moving to Neptune 21 years ago.

She was employed as an Office Manager for many years.

She was a parishioner of Taylor Memorial Baptist Church, Avon.

Mrs. Clark was predeceased by her husband Rev. Doctor John A. “Jack” Clark in 1975.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Jon E. and Carol, Franklinville; her daughter and son-in-law Joan H. Wuchter and Steve, West Belmar; her mother Beatrice Vetter, Wall; her four grandchildren Timothy and his fiancee Jen, Jill and her husband Mike, David and Kevin; her brother Dale A. Vetter, Willingboro; and her several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall

Burial will take place at 11 A.M. today, Thursday March 25 at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.

Shirley Swallow

Brick resident Shirley “Yippy” A. Swallow died Monday, March 22 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was 79 years old.

Born and raised in Plainfield, she lived in New Rochelle and was a summer resident of Manasquan for 50 years before moving to Brick 10 years ago.

She graduated from the New Rochelle School of Nursing at New Rochelle Medical Center in New Rochelle, N.Y., where she became the Supervisor of Nurses retiring in 1979.

She was an avid reader and talented artist whose kindness and generosity touched so many lives.

Mrs. Swallow was predeceased by her parents Harold and Isabelle (nee Reynolds) Swallow; and her niece Maura Cregar.

She is survived by her two sisters Joan Regan, Wall and Jeanne Cregar, North Plainfield; her five nieces Patricia Regan-MacRina, Kathleen Iorio, Susan Dally, Eileen Paulsen and Joanne Lavalva; her five nephews John, Matthew and Mark Cregar, and David and Timothy Regan; and 15 great nieces and nephews.

Services will be held by the O’Brien Funeral Home, Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall at 10:15 A.M. on Friday, March 26. This will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. at St. Denis Church, Manasquan. Visitation Thursday 7-9 P.M. only. Interment will follow at Prospect Hill cemetery, Flemington.

Patricia Brandau

Brielle resident Patricia Joan Fuer Brandau died Monday, March 22 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was 76 years old.

Born in Newark and raised in Plainfield, she lived in N.Y.C. before coming to Brielle 39 years ago.

She received her certification from the University of Miami School of Nursing to become a Registered Nurse.

She served in the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Point Pleasant.

She was a communicant of St. Denis Church, Manasquan.

Mrs. Brandau was predeceased by her daughter Catherine Polk and her brothers William and John Fuer.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Arthur G. Brandau, retired chief, Brielle P.D.; her son Edward Brandau, Calif., her two daughters Sandy Williams, Mass. and Anne Marie Bald, Forked River, her step-daughter Debra Lynn Wise, Australia; her six grandchildren Stefani and Amanda Williams, Mclanie Bald, Edward and Christopher Sampson, and William Christopher Polk; her two sisters Virgina Teschner, Milford and Elizabeth Breslin, Fla.

Services will be held by the O’Brien Funeral Home, Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall at 8:30 A.M. today, Thursday, March 25.

Mass will be held at St. Denis Church, Manasquan at 9:30 A.M. followed by committal at St. Anne’s cemetery, Wall.

Frank Martin

Sea Girt resident Frank F. Martin died Tuesday, March 23 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 77 years old.

Born in Goldsboro, NC he lived in N.Y.C. before coming to Sea Girt 29 years ago.

He was a graduate of the University of Kentucky earning an MBA and did postgraduate studies at the University of Alabama.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving during the occupation of Japan following World War II.

He served as a faculty member at Virgina Military Institute and was adjunct professor of finance at New York University, Monmouth University and Georgian Court College.

He was an investment banker with Halsey Stuart, Goldman Sachs and Citi Group before retiring.

He was also a member of the New York Athletic Club and the Municipal Bond Club.

Mr. Martin is survived by his wife Dorothy Pietrucha, M.D.; his daughters Blair Williams, Lexington, Va., Victoria Ambrose, New Canaan, CT, Catherine Barber, St. Petersburg, Fla. and Elizabeth Martin, Sea Girt; and his eight grandchildren.

Private services are under the direction of O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Martin’s memory be made to the Manasquan First Aid Squad 65 Broad St. Manasquan, N.J. 08736 or the Jersey Shore University Medical Center 1945 Rt. 33 Neptune, N.J., or to a charity of your choice.

Kenneth Waters

Wall resident Kenneth J. Watters died Tuesday, March 23 in his home.

He was 82 years old.

Born and raised in Jersey City he had lived in Wall for the past 50 years.

He was a Fireman for the Jersey City Fire Department for 35 years retiring in 1983 and at the time of his retirement he was a in the Fire Prevention Bureau.

He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the Neptune American Legion Post.

He was a Communicant of St. Rose Church, Belmar and had served as an Usher.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #5611, Spring Lake and had served as the Past Grand Knight.

He was also a member of the Jersey City Knights of Columbus.

Mr. Watters was predeceased by his wife Claire Jane McManus; his two brothers Edward and the Rev. Charles Watters; and his sister Myra Watters.

He is survived by his two daughters Claire Watters and Donna and her husband Timothy Dey, New Egypt; his two nieces Margaret Wormley and Kate Watters; and his nephew Edward Watters.

Services will be held by the O’Brien Funeral Home, Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall at 9:15 A.M. on Friday, March 26. This will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 A.M. at St. Rose Church, Belmar.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Watter’s memory may be made to St. Rose Church 607 7 Ave., Belmar 07719 or the Wall Twp. First Aid Squad 1900 Monmouth Blvd., Wall, N.J. 07719.

Frederick Kierner

Brielle resident Frederick A. Kierner Jr. died Sunday, March 21 in his home.

He was 73 years old.

Born in Linden, he formerly lived Brielle then moved to Galloway, Oh. 7 years ago.

He was an Electrical Engineer employed by the Nasa Space Center in Greenbelt, Md before retiring in 1986.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict.

He was a member of the Elks Club, Point Pleasant, the Lions Club, Point Pleasant, the Boy Scout Troop 63, Brielle.

He also served on the Brielle Board of Education and Brielle Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Kierner is survived by his wife Betty Gibbons Kierner; his son and daughter-in-law Fred and Carrie, Galloway, Oh.; his two daughters and son-in-laws Sharon and Mark Kierner, Marysville, Oh. and Beth and Jeff Gifford, Brick; his sister Betty Murphy, Hamburg; his brother Tom Kierner, Westford, Mass.; and his seven grandchildren Rick, Ed, Tom, Desirae, Dakota, Harley and Alixandria.

Visitation hours are Saturday, March 21 between 2 - 4 P.M. at Colonial Funeral Home, 2170 Hwy 88, Brick.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Mr. Kierner’s memory may be made to Deborah Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 820 Browns Wills, N.J. 08015-0820.

Norman R. Heilos, Jr.

Long Branch resident Norman R. Heilos, Jr. died Tuesday, June 29 in his home.

He was 45 years old.

Born in Neptune, he lived in Sea Girt for many years before moving to Long Branch 12 years ago.

He was a graduate of Manasquan High School and the Brick Computer Technology School. He played with numerous shore area bands and was the director of music programs for many local day care centers.

He also played keyboard and guitar for St. Mark’s Church’s folk band and choir in Sea Girt.

Mr. Heilos is survived by his wife, Dr. Kathleen Strauss Heilos; son, Scott; daughter, Skylar; parents, Normany R. Sr. and Betty Heilos, Sea Girt; brother and sister-in- law, Keith and Karen, Spring Lake Heights; sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Captain George Petro, Virginia Beach, Va; nieces and nephews, Brianna, Daniel, Nicole, Christopher and Taylor; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home.

Donations may be made in his memory to St. Mark’s Social Concerns or to the St. Mark’s CYO, Crescent Parkway, Sea Girt.
