Olga 'Ollie' H. Neveil

Brielle resident Olga “ Ollie” H. Neveil died this week.

She was 75 years old.

Born in Manchester, N.H., Mrs. Neveil, affectionately known as “Ollie,” moved to Newark in the 1930s. She was employed by New Jersey Bell [now Verizon] in the 1940s and later worked at the George Morris and Brookside Schools. She later became an office manager at the middle school, all in Bloomfield, before retiring in 1984.

She had a warm smile and a friendly personality that was contagious to everyone she met — her smile was like dropping a drop of mercury and seeing it spread endlessly in all directions.

A long time resident of Bloomfield, she moved to Brielle in 1991. She was a 45 year member of Park United Methodist Church in Bloomfield where she was also president of the United Methodist Women. She was a 50 year member of the Caldwell Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.

After moving to Brielle, she became a member of the Manasquan United Methodist Church where she was also the co-president of the United Methodist Women and was tireless worker in many church activities.

She was also a long time volunteer at the VNA Thrift Shop in Manasquan.

Mrs. Neveil loved to travel, and she and her husband traveled throughout the United States, Canada, Alaska, Europe, Asia, North Africa, Australia and New Zealand. One memorable travel moment that she often talked about was being present at a piano concert in the garden of a summer palace in Warsaw where the memorable songs of composer Fryderyk Chopin were played to a mesmerized audience.

Mrs. Neveil will be sorely missed but not forgotten as those indestructible drops of mercury will keep moving, spreading her smile endlessly in her memory for all of the tomorrows.

She leaves her husband of 56 years, Raymond G., Brielle; son, Raymond S. and his wife, Sandra, Loveladies; two daughters, Deborah J. Hughes and her husband, Wesley, Roseland and Pamela A. O’Neill and her husband, Clifford, Bernardsville and six grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 1 p.m. at the Manasquan United Methodist Church, Church and South streets, Manasquan.

Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Manasquan United Methodist Church, 23 Church Street, Manasquan, 08736.
