Lorraine Casey

Point Pleasant Beach resident Lorraine V. Rule Casey died Tuesday, Aug. 17 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.

She was 87 years old.

Mrs. Casey was employed as the executive secretary to the president of the Shadow and Lawn Savings and Loan, Long Branch, for 15 years, retiring 18 years ago.

Born in Newark, she moved to Point Pleasant Beach 36 years ago.

She was a former member of the Sultanas El Zagel Caravan 7 of Alhambra [the highest order of the Knights of Columbus], a member of the Glorious Years, the Rosary Society and the treasurer of the Catholic Daughters Ministry of St. Peter’s Church, treasurer of the Point Pleasant chapter of Deborah Hospital, and the treasurer of the Woman’s Club of Point Pleasant Beach.

Mrs. Casey is survived by her husband of 68 years Thomas Casey; son and daughter-in -law Thomas Jr. and Eileen Casey, Philadelphia; daughters Patricia Murphy, Sea Girt, and Phyllis Wagoner, Toms River; sisters Ronnie Klueber, Easton, Pa., and Phyllis Bergman, Anderson, S.C.; 13 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from Van Hise and Callagan Funeral Home, Point Pleasant Beach.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Children’s Smiles of Deborah.

Robert Sylvester

Spring Lake resident Robert Thomas Sylvester died Sunday, Aug. 22 in the home of his daughter in Brick Township.

He was 77 years old.

Mr. Sylvester was employed as a sheet metal roofer at the Chester Heulitt Sheet Metal Co., Spring Lake Heights, for his entire working career before retiring in 1977.

He was a member of the Dawn Patrol Golf Club, the Belmar Oaks Lodge, the Point Pleasant Fire Co., and was a communicant of St. Catharine’s and St. Margaret’s Parish, Spring Lake.

Born in Lake Como, Mr. Sylvester was a lifelong resident of Spring Lake.

He is survived by his three daughters Carol Erdman, Brick, Lynne Toskovich, McLean, Va. and Randi Titmas, Point Pleasant; two brothers Jack and Charles, Spring Lake; three sisters Eva Gross, N.Y., Margaret Todd, Vero Beach, Fla. and Helen Carmen, N.Y.; eight grandchildren; one great-grandchild on the way, and his special friends Lillian, Ira, and Bill.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury, 07702.

Thomas McCabe

Hyannis, Mass. resident Thomas J. McCabe, whose daughter Judith McCabe resides in Manasquan, died Saturday, Aug. 21 in Cape Cod Hospital, Hyannis.

He was 91 years old.

Mr. McCabe worked for Public Services, which is now N.J. Transit, retiring as a supervisor in the mid-1970’s.

Born in Newark, he formerly lived in East Orange, Centerville, Mass., and spent his summers in West Harwich, Mass.

He was a member of Our Lady of Victory Church Holy Name Society, Holly Ridge Golf Club, and the Osterville Men’s Club. He was also an avid Red Sox fan.

He was predeceased by his son Thomas McCabe in 1999.

Mr. McCabe is survived by his wife of 62 years Stella McCabe; daughter Judith McCabe, Manasquan; grandsons Thomas McCabe, Kirkland, Wash., and Michael McCabe, Sammanish, Wash., and one great-grandson, Michael McCabe.

Funeral arrangements were from the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, Marstons Mills, Mass.

Helen Onto

Little Egg Harbor Township resident Helen C. Onto, formerly of Manasquan and Point Pleasant, died Friday, Aug. 20 in Seacrest Village Nursing Home, Little Egg Harbor.

She was 79 years old.

Mrs. Onto worked at Sears in Neptune for many years before retiring in 1981. She worked as advertising executive for a brief time during her retirement before moving to Little Egg Harbor.

She was predeceased by her husband Anthony in 1987 and her son James in 1995.

Mrs. Onto is survived by a daughter Helen Onto-Murphy and her husband Charles, Little Egg Harbor; a son Anthony Jr. and his wife Diane, Point Pleasant; a brother George Scott, Fla., and two grandchildren, Kristen and Keith, Point Pleasant.

Funeral arrangements were from the Parsels Funeral Home, Absecon.

Frank J. Santanello Jr.

Whiting, Manchester Township, resident Frank Joseph Santanello Jr., whose son lives in Point Pleasant, died Sunday, Aug. 22.

He was 67 years old.

Born in Bradley Beach, Mr. Santanello was a lifelong Jersey Shore resident.

He was a graduate of Neptune High School.

He was the owner for many years of Shell service stations and for five years of the Lavallette Coin Laundry. He was the manager for the U-Store-It self-storage facility in Brick Township, retiring in 2000 after 10 years in the industry. Also, he taught computer classes for 10 years with the Toms River Community Adult School and did private consulting work.

He was a communicant of the Church of the Ascension, Bradley Beach. Along with his wife, he was a founding contributor of St. Justin’s Church, Toms River, and a sponsor of the Festival of the Atlantic, Point Pleasant Beach.

He was an Army veteran, serving from 1955 to 1957 while stationed in Germany.

He enjoyed day trips, was known for his expertise in home renovation, and loved retirement. He was a loving father and grandfather.

He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Edna Santanello/ and his sister, Elizabeth Oliveto.

Surviving are his loving wife of 45 years, Patricia Gorham Santanello; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Thomas F. and Paula, Bowie, Md., Robert A. and Joan, Point Pleasant, and Jeffrey S., Allentown; seven grandchildren, Miranda, Sean, Dylan, Erin, Zachary and Valerie Santanello, and Stephen Schermerhorn; two brothers and one sister-in-law, James, Bradley Beach, and Joseph and Barbara, Palm Harbor, Fla.; one sister, Frances Sauta, Manchester; his uncle, Louis Stojkiewicz, Allenwood, Wall Township; and numerous in-laws, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

Contributions in Mr. Santanello’s memory may be made to CentraState Medical Center, 901 W. Main St., Freehold, 07728; or to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury, 07702.

Lloyd Miller

Spring Lake Heights resident Lloyd F. Miller died Wednesday, Aug. 11 in his residence after a long, courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease.

He was 76 years old.

Born in Allaire, he was a life long resident of Spring Lake Heights.

Mr. Miller was employed as a landscape contractor for Ethicon Inc., Somerville, retiring in 1988.

He was an Army veteran of World War II serving in 88th Infantry Division in Italy, prior to this he was in the Maritime Service in 1945.

He was also a police officer in Spring Lake Heights for five years and also had worked at Doolan’s, Spring Lake Heights.

He was predeceased by his father and mother, Frederick and Margaret Miller.

Mr. Miller is survived by his wife of 35 years Dorothy Miller; four step-children, Roberta Walker, Kevin Walker, Marjorie and Don Brahn, all of Spring Lake Heights, and James and Deborah Walker, Santa Fe, N.M.; a sister, Aline Hendrickson, Spring Lake Heights; his niece and her husband, Nancy and Patrick Forbes; a nephew and his wife, Steven and Carolyn Hendrickson; seven step-grandchildren and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

Margaret Bainbridge

Wall Township resident Margaret A. Flynn Bainbridge died Saturday, Aug. 14 in her home.

She was 84 years old.

Born and raised in Montclair, she resided there, before coming to Wall 20 years ago.

Mrs. Bainbridge was a homemaker.

She was also a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving as a yeoman third class, and earning the American Theatre Medal and the Victory Medal.

Mrs. Bainbridge is survived by her husband, Robert C. Bainbridge; her daughter, Patricia B. Toris, Brick Township; her son, Robert C. Bainbridge Jr., Montclair; her grandchildren, Sean, Lindsay, Beth Ann and Bruce, and her brother, Thomas Flynn, Hanover, N.H.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Immaculate Conception High School Development Office, 33 Cottage Place, Montclair, 07042, would be appreciated.

Salvatore Castellano Jr.

Hazlet resident Salvatore J. Castellano Jr.,whose daughter resides in Manasquan, died Wednesday, Aug. 11 of complications that surrounded a 20 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease in his home.

He was 78 years old.

Born in Manhattan, he moved to Hazlet 47 years ago.

Mr. Castellano was employed as a senior design engineer for Gibbs & Cox, Inc., N.Y., for 39 years, retiring in 1987.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

He was a communicant of St. Benedict’s Church, Holmdel, and a member of the St. Benedict’s Holy Name Society, the lector’s society, the cantor society, and the men’s choir.

He was predeceased by his parents, Salvatore and Teresa Castellano.

Mr. Castellano is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean Castellano; daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and Roy Churchman, Manasquan, Carol and John DeLibero, Harrison, N.Y., Marie and William Bonomo, Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., Regina and Bret Jefferson, Jackson, and Jeanine and Kirk Andersen, Howell; a brother, John Castellano, Edison; a brother and sister-in-law, Vincent and Nancy Castellano, Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral arrangements were from the Day Funeral Home, Inc., Keyport.

Catherine Ford

Spring Lake resident Catherine Enright Ford died Thursday, Aug. 12 in her home.

She was 61 years old.

Mrs. Ford was a court administrator for the borough of Spring Lake, before retiring in 1998. She was also a legislative aide for N.J. Assemblymen John Villapiano and Daniel Jacobson. She was the co-proprietor/co-founder of the “Christmas Spirit Gift Shop” in Spring Lake.

Mrs. Ford was a graduate of St. Dominic’s Academy and attended Caldwell College, both in Caldwell.

Born in Montclair, she lived in West Caldwell, South Orange, Millburn, and Marlboro, before moving to Spring Lake 26 years ago.

She is predeceased by her father Harold Enright, and by her sister Margie Enright.

Mrs. Ford is survived by her loving husband of 37 years, Robert D. Ford; sons, John Francis Ford, Los Angeles, Ca., Michael Patrick Ford, Spring Lake, and a daughter, Erin Kate Ford, Santa Monica, Ca.

She also leaves behind her mother, Helen Enright, Spring Lake Heights; her sisters, Frances Enright, Spring Lake Heights, and Rosemary Enright, Key West, Fla., and brother-in-law Tegan Slayton, Key West.

Roger Nugent

Wall Township resident Roger Edward Nugent died Monday, Aug. 16 in his home.

He was 63 years old.

Born and raised in Staten Island, he lived in Avon for 30 years, before coming to Wall three years ago.

Mr. Nugent served as a New York City firefighter for over 23 years before retiring.

He attended Brooklyn College and served in the New Jersey Air National Guard.

He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He enjoyed gardening at home and keeping his tropical fish.

Mr. Nugent is survived by his wife Carol Ann Griffin Nugent; his sons and their wives, Roger E. and Colleen Nugent and John P. and Alyson Nugent; his daughters and their husbands, Carolyn and Charles Luciano, and Lauren A. and Carl Faas, all of Wall; and his grandchildren, Griffin Nugent, Kyle and Kaela Luciano, and Christa and Bryant Faas. He also leaves brothers, Edward and Thomas Nugent, and his sister, Carroll J. Nugent.
