Thomas Hartl

Avon-by-the-Sea resident Thomas Theodore Hartl died Friday, August 6 in his home.

He was 53 years old.

Mr. Hartl had been employed as the Vice President of the American Aluminum Casting Company, Irvington, a family business until his retirement three years ago.

He was born in East Orange and had lived in Union, prior to moving to Avon 50 years ago.

He was an exempt, life, and honorary member of the Avon Fire Department, serving as its chief in 1982. He had served as the president and the membership secretary. He was also an Avon lifeguard for many years. He was a member of the Belmar Fishing Club, and an avid NY Jets fan. He was a member of the Avon United Methodist Church.

He was predeceased by his mother, Ruth Schumann.

Mr. Hartl is survived by his father, Charles H. Hartl, Sr., Avon; brother, Neptune City Councilman, Charles H. Hartl Jr., a sister, Jeanne Libby, both of Neptune City; two nephews; a niece and two grand-nephews.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Avon Fire Department, 301 Main St., or the Avon First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 3, Avon, 07717.

Frank Welle

Wall Township resident Frank J. Welle died Saturday, August 7 in the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 75 years old.

Mr. Welle had been employed as the Director of Network Systems for AT&T for 40 years, retiring in 1984. During his lengthy career, he had worked all over the U.S., mostly in Atlanta, and at the time of his retirement he was working in Morristown. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

He was an Army veteran of the Korean War with the rank of 2nd Lieutenant.

Mr. Welle was a Knight of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem, South Eastern Lieutenancy. He was a communicant of St. Andrews Church, Roswell, Ga., the Eucharist Adoration Society and the Over 55 Club of the church, and a member of the Brookfield Country Club, Roswell, Ga.

Born in Brooklyn, he had lived all over the U. S., before moving to Wall seven years ago.

Frank’s wife, Theresa, described him as an extraordinary, kind, gentle man who was loved and respected by all who knew him. He was an avid and talented golfer.

Mr. Welle is survived by his wife of 53 years, Theresa Schaefer Welle; his daughter, Elaine Welle Tupala, Laramie, Wyo., and his sister, Rita Rahn, Virginia Beach, Va.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Mark’s Social Concerns Committee, 215 Crescent Pkwy., Sea Girt, 08750.

Sarah Hyams

Neptune resident Sarah Ellen Hyams died Sunday, August 8 in the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 53 years old.

Ms. Hyams was a private secretary at Fort Monmouth in Eatontown for many years.

Born in New York, she lived most of her life in Asbury Park, before moving to Neptune in 1990.

Ms. Hyams is survived by her dearest companion, Richard Glum, and her loving dog, Sheba.

Arrangements were from the Armitage Funeral Home, Wall Township.

Robert Piermattei, Sr.

Lakewood resident Robert Thomas Piermattei, Sr. died Sunday, August 8 in the Medical Center of Ocean County, Brick Hospital.

He was 70 years old.

Mr. Piermattei was a U.S. Coast Guard veteran.

He was employed as a procurement analyst at SATCOM Agency, Fort Monmouth, for 25 years retiring in 1989. Prior to this he had worked for the Social Security Administration.

He was a former communicant of St. Denis Church, Manasquan, and a graduate of Rider University.

Born in Villa Park, Ill., he had resided in Neptune and then Wall Township for 26 years, before moving to Lakewood five years ago.

Mr. Piermattei is survived by his wife, Lois E. Piermattei; his children and their spouses, Robert T. Jr. and Christine, Neptune, William and Rebecca, Catonsville, Md., Stephen and Jean, Fort Mills, S.C., and Karen and C.G. Coulson, Chesterfield, Mo.; a brother, Fred R., Pinehurst, N.C., and seven grandchildren Keith, Scott, and Tess Coulson, and Malin, Anna, Julia, and Sam Piermattei.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Diabetes Assoc., 200 A Cottontail Lane, Somerset, 08873.

Rose Licsko

Wayside, Ocean Township, resident Rose Fattori Licsko died Monday, August 9 on her 63rd wedding anniversary in Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 87 years old.

Ms. Licsko was a business education teacher at Midland Park High School, Midland Park, for 17 years retiring in 1977. She was a member of the NJEA and the Midland Park Teachers Association. She was also a partner in her family business Rel Manufacturing Co., Elmwood Park.

She earned her bachelor’s of science degree in education from Trenton State College and her master’s in education from New York University.

Born in Hoboken, she had lived in Ramsey for 27 years and then in Middletown for 18 years, before moving to Wayside in 2001.

She was predeceased by her sister, Esther LaForgia.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, John A. Licsko; her daughter with whom they lived for the last three years, Joan Huegel, Wayside; her brother, Larry Fattori, Florida; three granddaughters Jennifer John, Rachel Kingman, and Kaitlyn Huegel and two great-grandsons, Jason and Chandler John.

Funeral arrangements are from the the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

Trudy Walsh

Manasquan resident Trudy V. Walsh died Saturday, August 7 in Bel Aire, Md.

She was 71 years old.

Born and raised in Jersey City, Mrs. Walsh has resided for 41 years in Manasquan, moving there in 1963.

She was a graduate of Ferris High School in 1950. Her love of learning garnered her a bachelor of arts degree in political science from Douglas College, Rutgers University, in 1980.

Mrs. Walsh had a distinguished career with the U.S. Postal Service serving in Asbury Park and Red Bank. She retired after twenty years of service.

A devout member of St. Denis Church, Manasquan, Mrs. Walsh substitute taught and volunteered her time to several worthwhile causes. Locally she was politically active in the Democratic Club of Manasquan and had served on the Manasquan Board of Education.

Mrs. Walsh is survived by her two sons, Keith P. Walsh, Manasquan, and Brigadier General Guy M. Walsh, Maryland National Guard; her mother, Gertrude Sowul, Ocean Grove; her sister, Frances Rott, Bradley Beach, and four grandsons.

Funeral arrangements are from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make contributions to the Manasquan Public Library, 55 Broad Street, Manasquan, 08736, to further support literacy and education in our community.

William Fisher, Sr.

Manasquan resident William Thomas Fisher died Monday, August 9 in his residence.

He was 82 years old.

Mr. Fisher was a police officer in Edison Twp. for 37 years serving his last 13 as the chief of police, before his retirement in 1984. He then went on to manage Casino Fisher Pier, Seaside Heights, from 1986 until 2004.

He was an Army veteran of World War II.

Mr. Fisher was born in New Brunswick, graduated from New Brunswick High School, and was a lifelong resident of Edison, before moving to Manasquan 20 years ago.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Doris Fisher; his son, William T. Jr., Edison; four daughters, Kathleen McNee, Manasquan, Ricky and her husband, Richard Eddy, Spring Lake Heights, Christine and her husband, Anthony Sa, Basking Ridge, and Jean Fekete, Edison; his grandchildren, Dorian McNee, Charles and his wife Janine Fekete, and Jill Fekete; his nieces, Mary Giovenco and Elizabeth Corson and his grand niece, Rachel Corson.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

William D. Crosta

Wall Township resident William D. Crosta died Friday, July 30 in his home.

He was 71 years old.

Mr. Crosta was born, raised, and educated in Newark. He graduated from St. Benedict’s Prep School, Class of 1949 and attended Seton Hall University, South Orange.

He served as a corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He owned and operated Joe Cryan’s in Manasquan, and The Rip Tide and The Park Place both in Point Pleasant Beach. He retired in 1988.

He was a member of the Tavern Owner’s Association and the Alumni of St. Benedict’s.

He was predeceased by his wife of 21 years, Mary A. Murray Crosta; his parents, Daniel V. and Helen Butler Crosta and a brother, Robert F. Crosta.

Surviving are his children, Donna and Michael Wilser, Wall, Andrea Crosta, Wall, and William D. Crosta, Jr. and his wife, Kathleen; a brother, Donald V. Crosta, and two grandchildren, Brian and Caroline Wilser.

Funeral arrangements were from McDonough Funeral Home, Belmar.

Samuel DiUbaldi

Manasquan resident Samuel DiUbaldi died Wednesday, July 28 in his home.

He was 77 years old.

Born and raised in Newark, he came to Manasquan 33 years ago.

He was a graduate of Central High School, Newark, and Fairleigh Dickinson University, Rutherford.

During World War II, he served in the Merchant Marines, delivering war materials to the Russians, who were repelling the Germans on the eastern front. He later joined the Army

After his honorable discharge, he went to work for Western Electric as a mechanical draftsman. He excelled in that occupation until 1954 when he became President of IBEW Local 1470. The union had a membership of 18,000 workers and was very active in politics, helping candidates in both political parties, and was influential in carrying the favor of Presidents, U.S. Senators, Governors and several members of Congress throughout New Jersey.

In 1961, Governor Richard Hughes appointed Mr. DiUbaldi as Deputy Commissioner of Labor, a position he held until retiring in 1987.

He served in state government under both political parties and carried out duties as Acting Commissioner, while the serving commissioner was in Vietnam, setting up an administrative office and procedures for the U.S. Military.

Mr. DiUbaldi’s knowledge of top political people, movers, and shakers of New Jersey, helped facilitate matters of concern for the existing administration to easy resolutions. He was a treasured asset to New Jersey’s economic life.

He was predeceased by his wife, Marguerite Niles DiUbaldi, and his brothers Vito and Rocco DiUbaldi.

Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Gina DiUbaldi; his daughter, Diane Baker; his grandchildren, Sean, Tony, Christina, and Samantha, and his brother, Anthony DiUbaldi.
