Rose M. Kennedy

Point Pleasant resident Rose M. Kennedy, who has family in Brielle, died Thursday, April 21 in the Claremont Care Center, Point Pleasant.

She was 90 years old.

Born in Scotch Plains, Mrs. Kennedy lived in Fanwood before moving to the Silver Ridge Park section of Dover Township in 1987. She moved to Point Pleasant two and one-half years ago. Mrs. Kennedy was a homemaker. She was a communicant of St. Maximillian Kolbe Catholic Church, Toms River, and belonged to the Silver Ridge Park Association. She had also belonged to the Historical Society of Fanwood.

Mrs. Kennedy was predeceased by her husband, Charles Kennedy, Sr.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Mary Kennedy, Brielle; a brother, Frank, Orlando Fla.; two sisters, Louise, Melbourne, Fla., and Theresa, Palm Bay, Fla.; her grandchildren and their spouses, Sean and Linda Kennedy, Manasquan, Erin Bettencourt, Spring Lake Heights, and Kelly and Rick Kraft, Spring Lake Heights. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Erin and Robert Kraft, Megan Courtney, and Christopher and Ryan Kennedy.

Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Marion C. Stanley

Brielle resident Marion C. Stanley died Friday, April 22 in her home.

She was 76 years old.

Born in Plainfield, she resided in Highland Park before moving to Brielle six years ago. Mrs. Stanley graduated New Jersey College, now Douglass, class of 1950. She retired in 1985 as a special education teacher for the Plainfield school system.

Mrs. Stanley was predeceased by a son, Bill Stanley.

She is survived by her husband, C. William Stanley; a son Ben Stanley, Plainfield; two daughters Jane Stanley, Highland Park, and Sarah Colmer, Lucedale, Miss.; two sisters Elizabeth Fitzpatrick, Block Island, R.I., and Jane Davis, Denver; and seven grandchildren Amanda and Jed Aronson, Elizabeth Kiser, and Maggie, Emily, Laura, and Rebecca Colmerauer. She is also survived by three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Mary Ellen Gallagher Duggan

Lake Como resident Mary Ellen Gallagher Duggan died Sunday, April 24 in the King Manor Care Center, Neptune.

She was 97 years old.

Born in Cliffoney, County Slingo, Ireland, she came to the U.S. and lived in Kearney, Newark and West Orange before moving to Lake Como in 1985. Mrs. Duggan had been employed as a housekeeper at Presbyterian Hospital, Newark for many years. She was a former parishioner of St. Rose of Lima Church, Newark and also a member of the Altar Rosary Society of the church. She had also been a parishioner of St. Cecilia Church, Kearney, and St. Catharine’s and St. Margaret’s Parish, Spring Lake. An avid bingo player, she also loved trips to Atlantic City.

Mrs. Duggan was predeceased by her husband, Patrick J, and a son, Patrick J. Jr.

She is survived by her son and his wife, John P. and Bernadine Duggan, Spring Lake; a daughter-in-law, Marie Duggan, Westfield; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

George Tolmie Ferguson Jr.

Lakewood resident George Tolmie Ferguson Jr., formerly of Spring Lake Heights, died Friday, April 22 in his home.

He was 78 years old.

Born in Providence, R.I., he had lived in Wilmington, N.C. as a boy and then moved to Long Island before moving to the Shore area 32 years ago. During his time of living in this area, Mr. Ferguson lived in Brick Township, Lakewood and Fairway Mews, Spring Lake Heights.

He was the founder and operator of Ferguson & Cox, West Haven, Conn., a very successful office and building interior design firm for many years before his retirement 12 years ago. Mr. Ferguson attended Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bay Head.

He is survived by his sons, George T. III, Newtown, Conn., and Paul, Newfoundland; a daughter Helene Claire Ferguson, Malverne, N.Y.; a brother, Robert, New Hampshire; a sister, Elizabeth Karam, Cohassett, Mass.; three grandchildren and a special nephew, Edmund Karam.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial today at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Bay Head. No prior visitation. Entombment will take place at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to Wills Eye Hosital, 840 Walnut St., Philadelphia, PA, 19107 in his memory. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

William C. Walsh

Stuart, Fla. resident William C. Walsh, who has family in Avon-by-the-Sea, died Saturday, April 23.

He was 81 years old.

Born in Jersey City, Mr. Walsh had lived in Irvington and Newark as a boy, and was a lifelong resident of Neptune City before moving to Stuart, Fla. in 1993.

He had been employed as a sales executive at Westinghouse International, New York City for 35 years, retiring 20 years ago.

Mr. Walsh was an exempt member and the former Chief of the Neptune City Fire Department, and had also served as the President of the NCFD Relief Association. He was also a communicant of St. Elizabeth’s Church, Avon-by-the-Sea.

Mr. Walsh was predeceased by his wife, Virginia B. Matysek Walsh in September 1994.

He is survived by a son and his wife, James C. and Martha, Mercervile; a sister Jeanne Perkins, Avon-by-the-Sea; three grandchildren, Christopher, Jonathan and Brian; and two step-grandchildren, Ileah and Nathan.

A funeral service will be held tomorrow at 8:45 a.m. from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Route 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall Township, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth’s Church, Avon. Visiting will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be at the New Jersey Veterans cemetery, Arneytown.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the NCFD Relief Association, 106 W. Sylvania Ave., Neptune City, 07753.

Elizabeth Margaret Butler

Spring Lake Heights resident Elizabeth Margaret Butler died Monday, April 25 in her home.

She was 43 years old.

Born in Tarrytown, N.Y. Ms. Butler lived in Ossining, N.Y. before moving to Spring Lake Heights 28 years ago. She was a cashier at Pathmark, Wall Township. She was also a communicant of St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake.

Ms. Butler was predeceased by her parents, Gerard T. and Elizabeth P. Butler.

She is survived by her brothers, Terrence J. Butler, Spring Lake Heights, Timothy P. Butler, Hazlet; and a sister, Bonnie Maloney, Congers, N.Y. She also leaves her loving aunts who cared for her, Peggie, Eileen and Kathy O’Sullivan, all of Spring Lake Heights.

A funeral service will be held today at 8:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake. Entombment will be at St. Catharine’s Cemetary, Wall. Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to Meridian Hospice, 4900 Route 33, Suite 200, Neptune, 07753.

Margaret E. Budrecki

Meshoppen, Pa., resident Margaret E. Budrecki, formerly of Manasquan, died Monday, April 25 in Mercy Hospital, Scranton, Penn.

She was 50 years old.

Born in Hartford, Conn., she was a fabric manager for the Rag Shop, Wall Township, before moving to Tunkhannock, Pa., where she worked as a cashier for Wal-Mart for the past five years.

She attended the Nativity B.V.M. Church, Tunkhannock, and was a volunteer at the Lackawanna County Humane Society.

She is survived by her husband of 29 years, Anton Budrecki; two daughters, Christine Roca, Allentown, Pa., and Michelle Budrecki, Belmar; two sons, Stephen Budrecki, Piscataway, and Carl Budrecki, Meshoppen, Pa.; her sisters, Kathy Rinck, Toms River, Judy Tierney, Ocean Grove, Patty Skrynski, Tunkhannock, Pa., and Anne Simon, Neptune; and three brothers, Jim Tierney and Dan Tierney, both of Tinton Falls, and David Tierney, Berwyn, Pa. She is also survived by two grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on tomorrow at 8:30 a.m. from the Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, Inc., 73 West Tioga St., Tunkhannock. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9 a.m. from the Nativity B.V.M. Church in Tunkahannock, with burial to follow in the Piata Cemetary, Tunkhannock. Friends and relatives may call at the funeral home Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Lackawanna County Humane Society.

Claire Mertens Schreiber Horr

Fort Myers, Fla. resident Claire Mertens Schreiber Horr, who has family in Belmar, died Wednesday, April 20 in her home.

She was 58 years old.

Born in Belmar, she was a lifetime resident of the Jersey Shore before retiring to Florida.

Dr. Mertens was an alumna of Manasquan High School, Monmouth University and National College of Chiropractic, Lombard, Ill. Dr. Mertens practiced as a chiropractor in Manasquan from 1975 to 1995.

She is survived by her daughter, Ariella Schreiber, Toms River; brother Carl Mertens, Howell; and father Erwin Mertens, Belmar.

Funeral arrangements were from the Kiser Funeral Home, Fort Myers, Fla.

Christopher B. Candito

Matawan resident Christopher B. Candito, who was a long-time resident of Spring Lake, died suddenly Thursday, April 28 in Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick.

He was 33 years old.

Born in Edison, he had lived in Spring Lake until moving to Matawan 10 years ago. He had attended HW Mountz Grammer School, Spring Lake, Red Bank Catholic High School, and had attended the University of Tennessee. He was a former communicant of St. Catharine’s and St. Margaret’s Parish, Spring Lake. Mr. Candito was involved in wrestling competitively since he was 14 years old. He was a professional wrestler for many years.

His family wrote of Mr. Candito, “Chris will be regarded as one of, if not the best professional wrestler in the history of the sport. He held more titles than could be counted, including the WWE Tag Team Titles, ECW Tagteam Titles, the WCW Cruiserweight Title, and the NWA World Title, just to mention a few. He whole-heartedly loved the art of Professional Wrestling and passed on at the peak of his career. To know him was to love him, as he was a passionate, determined, and ever benevolent human being. He is seen as an angel by many, proving the old adage “only the good die young.” He will live on eternally as a “legend of the squared circle.” Truly one of a kind, as a person, he was the kindest, most caring and giving individual you would ever want to meet. His legacy has only just begun. All who knew “No Gimmicks Needed” would agree that nobody does it better...CC, We Miss You Already.”

He is survived by his wife Tamara Sytch; father and his wife Donald and Gisele Candito, Middletown; mother and her husband Margaret “Peggy” and Gregory Rea; two sisters, Amanda and Amy Rea, and brother Jonathan Rea, all of Spring Lake; and grandmother Margaret Kunak, Nazareth, Pa.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township. In lieu of flowers his family requests donations to the Christopher B. Candito Foundation, c/o Bank of NY, 1310 Third Avenue, Spring Lake, 07762, for the establishment of a scholarship to benefit a student at his “alma mater” HW Mountz Grammer School, that demonstrates excellence by his/her performance during the academic year.

Anna Mary Rozum Hoblitzell

Manasquan resident Anna Mary Rozum Hoblitzell died Friday, April 29 peacefully in her home surrounded by her family.

She was 87 years old.

Born in Two Rivers, WI, Mrs. Hoblitzell was the daughter of Annie Tesarik and Anton Rozum. She resided in Plainfield before moving to Manasquan 34 years ago.

Mrs. Hoblitzell graduated from Marquette University College of Nursing in 1938. She served as a 2nd Lt. in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II. While at Fort Bragg, N.C. she met and married her late husband, Walter R. Hoblitzell, in 1942. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. For many years she served as a member of the Laurel League, the Monday Afternoon Women’s Club and the Altar Rosary Society of St. Bernards Catholic Church, Plainfield. After moving to Manasquan, she became an avid bowler and belonged to a number of bowling leagues. She was a communicant of St. Denis Catholic Church, Manasquan, where she was a member of the church’s Altar-Rosary Society and the St. Denis Seniors for many years. A resident of the Manasquan beachfront, she loved the beach and the ocean.

Mrs. Hoblitzell was predeceased by her husband Walter R. Hoblitzell, who died in 1971; sisters Rose Gillespie and Anita Stoldr; and brothers Edward, Anton and John Rozum.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Richard and Kathleen Hoblitzell, New Milford, CT., and Bruce and Jeanette Hoblitzell, Seattle, WA; daughter and son-in-law Diane and Robert Radnich, Dover, DE; daughter Carol Hoblitzell, Manasquan; and grandchildren Jennifer Dumans, Krysta Todice, Garth, Travis and Chase Hoblitzell and Christopher and Ross Radnich. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of New Jersey, 77 Route 37 West, Toms River 08755 or to the Manasquan First Aid Squad, 65 Broad Street, Manasquan 08736.

Marion G. Krott

Brick Township resident Marion G. Krott, formerly of Spring Lake Heights, died Sunday, May 1 in her son’s home in Bayville.

She was 83 years old.

Mrs. Krott was a thirty-five year resident of Spring Lake Heights and a seventeen year resident of Elkton, MD before moving to Brick Township in 2004. She had worked as a paralegal at Ft. Monmouth in the Patent Agency, retiring in Oct. 1987.

Mrs. Krott was predeceased by her parents, George L. and Anna W. [nee Walling] Stille and twin sister Myra Elizabeth in 1952.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, John Krott; two sons, Robert L. and wife Lisa, and Ronald G. and wife Nancy, both of Bayville; daughter Luanne M. Stout and husband George R., Brick Township; seven grandchildren, Duane, Bradford, Greg, George, Danielle, Alissa and Kimberly; and four great-grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, 2652 Rt. 138, Wall Township. Interment will follow at the Atlantic View cemetery, Manasquan.

William S. Wilkins

Manasquan resident William S. Wilkins died Sunday, May 1 in the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 83 years old.

Born in Colts Neck and raised in Belmar by his grandparents Annie and George Wilkins, Mr. Wilkins was a lifelong resident of the Jersey Shore, having graduated from both Belmar Grammer School and Manasquan High School. He was the owner of Wm. S. Wilkins Men’s Shop, Manasquan for 45 years. Mr. Wilkins was a veteran of World War II, serving in the European Theater of Operations with the Army Air Corps and Army Infantry. Organizations in which he was actively involved included Manasquan Kiwanis Club, where he was recognized for 43 years of attendance, Manasquan Chamber of Commerce, where he served as treasurer and two terms as president, Manasquan VFW since 1946 and Manasquan United Methodist Church. Mr. Wilkins was completely devoted to the town of Manasquan.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn; daughter and son-in-law Carol and Michael Kirkman, PA; daughter Judith Wilkins, TX; son and daughter-in-law Lawrence and Donna Wilkins, Neptune; and granddaughter Jaclyn Kirkman.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street, Manasquan. Interment will follow in Greenwood cemetery, Brielle. Visiting will be today 2 - 4 p.m. and 7 - 9 p.m. and tomorrow morning from 10 - 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers contributions in his memory may be made to the Manasquan United Methodist Church.
