MOLLY GRANDE CHIONCHIO, MATAWAN – died Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Regency Park Nursing Home, Hazlet. She was 95.

Born in Manhattan, NY, she resided in Brooklyn before moving to Cheesequake Village in 1980.

She was predeceased by her husband, Nicholas in 1988.
Surviving are two sons, Nicholas Jr. and his wife Judith of South Amboy, and Joseph and his wife Patricia of Sayreville; four grandchildren, Tracey, Melissa, Joseph, and AJ; and six great grandchildren, Arionna, Gianna, Alexandra, Ava, Nicholas Michael and Ian Christopher.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 8: 30 AM in the Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, followed by a 9: 15 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church. Entombment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Keyport. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 PM and Wednesday from 8: 30 AM.

Olympia (DeCarlo) Parisi, 103, of Keyport, passed away, Friday, January 2, 2009, at Victoria Health Care, Matawan.

Born in Boston, MA, she resided in New York City and Flushing, before moving to Keyport. She was a homemaker and a member of the Hazlet Seniors.

Olympia was predeceased by her husband, Charles Parisi in 1978; and her parents, Emile and Virginia DeCarlo. Surviving are her three sons, George Parisi of Lakehurst; Daniel Parisi of Bayside, NY; and Robert Parisi of Jackson Heights, NY; a daughter, Marjorie Lemma of Keyport; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandson.

Family and friends are invited Monday, 2-4 & 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, and Tuesday, 9AM, with a 9: 30AM service at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Calvary Cemetery, Queens, NY.

Dorothy (Dombrowski) Nixon, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2008, surrounded by her family, after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born on August 28, 1935 to Michael and Josephine Dombrowski. Dot was a registered nurse with The Hospital Center at East Orange and Martland Medical Center, Newark for over 40 years. In her retirement, she enjoyed reading, doing puzzles and knitting. She was active with Catholic Daughters and enjoyed helping her friends, Pat and Zena, in their respective stores on Main Street in Matawan.

Dot was predeceased by her parents; her sister, Barbara and her brother, Joseph. Surviving are her husband of 31 years, Arthur; her three stepdaughters and their husbands, Susan and Thomas Blake of Point Pleasant; Debra and Frank Reinhold of Matawan; and Linda and Paul Texidor of Howell. She also leaves behind her beloved grandchildren, Stephanie, Paige, Nicholas, Jessica, Justin, Joseph and Maggie; her sister-in-laws, Margaret Waterhouse of Toms River and Marion Dowling of North Haledon; as well as several nieces and nephews. She also leaves to mourn her loss, her very good friend, Pat.

The family wishes to thank the nurses and aides at Bayshore Health Care Center for the kindness and compassion they showed to Dottie and her family during her time there.

Family and friends are invited Sunday, 2-4 & 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport; and Monday, 8: 30AM, with a 9: 15AM Service at the funeral home. Interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Catholic Daughters or the Matawan First-Aid Squad.

Thomas J. Falco, Sr., 77, a lifelong resident of Aberdeen, passed away, Tuesday, December 23, 2008, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel.

Thomas was born in Matawan, NJ. He served his country in the Army Air Corps during the Korean Conflict. Before retiring in 2002, he was employed for 50 years by the State of New Jersey, with the Arthur Brisbane Child Treatment Center, Farmingdale, NJ, as a “maintenance engineer in charge.” He was a communicant of St. Benedict’s RC Church, Holmdel; a life member with the Aberdeen Twp. Hose and Chemical Company #1, having served for 55 years; and since 1962, he was a Fire Commissioner for Fire District #1.

Thomas was predeceased by his parents, Carmen and Louise (Eovino) Falco; brothers, Daniel, Salvatore, Louis and twin brother, Patrick; and sisters, Pasqualina, Philomena and Rose. Surviving are his wife, June (Burdick) Falco; a daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Kenneth Henderson; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas J. and Cindy Falco, Jr., all of Matawan; siblings, Mary Skorka of Holmdel; Joseph Falco of Keyport; Daniel Falco of AZ; Carmen Falco of Keansburg; John Falco of Matawan; Anthony Falco of Union Beach; Virginia Yaczina of Woodbridge; and Dolores Ahlers of Holmdel; four grandchildren, Taylor, Justin, Griffin and Brandon; and several nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited Sunday, 2-4 & 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport; and Monday, 9AM at the funeral home, with a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Benedict’s RC Church, Holmdel. Interment to follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Keyport.
Gunther R. Deppe, 69, of Middletown, passed away Monday, December 22, 2008, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank.

Born in Germany, he came to the United States in 1953. He resided in Keansburg for two years; Atlantic Highlands for ten years and Middletown for six years. For the past 37 ½ years, he was a butcher with Shop-Rite, Middletown. He was the shop steward with Local 464A, Union; and a member of the National Guard.

Gunther is survived by his wife, Mary (Sena) Deppe; his five children, Debra Reinig; Lisa Deppe; Sheryl McGlynn; Michael Deppe of Pennsylvania; and Jessica Deppe of Massachusetts; his mother, Marie Deppe of Germany; and six grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited Friday, 2-4 & 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport; and Saturday, 9AM, with a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Family RC Church, Union Beach. Entombment to follow at Forest Green Memorial Park, Morganville.

Ernest L. Shutt, Sr., 76, of Keansburg, passed away, Monday, December 22, 2008, at Bayshore Community Hospital.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he resided in Keyport, before moving to Keansburg 2-1/2 years ago. He was a truck driver with L&R Trucking, Carteret, for 35 years, before retiring in 1998; and then became a security guard with Marion Security, Kearny. He served his country in the Army during peacetime.

Ernest was predeceased by his wife, Joanne Shutt in 2005; and his parents, Clemont and Helen Shutt. Surviving are his children, Ernest Shutt, Jr. of Keansburg; Cheryl Cooney of Atlantic Highlands; and Donna Martin of Manchester; his grandchildren, Tina Chupcavich, Ernest Shutt, III, David Shutt, Joseph Cooney, Tricia Cooney, Timothy Cooney, Dylan Martin and Deanna Martin; and six great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited Friday, 2-4 & 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport; and Saturday 10: 30AM, with an 11AM Service at the funeral home. Cremation will be private. Entombment of cremains will take place on Tuesday, December 30, 2008, 1PM at the Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.

GERTRUDE A. GARRIGAL LEE of KEYPORT – died Friday, December 19, 2008 at home. She was 76.
Born in Newark, she resided in Keyport for the last 17 years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Benjamin in 1981, a granddaughter, Rebecca Leigh Wolf in 1991, and by a daughter, Elizabeth Wolf in 1998.
Surviving are a son, Edward J. Lee of Matawan; a brother, Eugene Garrigal of Toms River ; two sisters, Mary Keating of Linden and Betty Karabin of Madison ; three grandchildren, Melody Lee, Benjamin Lee and Kyle Wolf; and three great grandchildren, Adriana, Nicholas and Dominic.

Funeral services will be held on Monday at 8: 30 AM in the Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, followed by a 9: 15 AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church, Keyport. Entombment will follow at Holmdel Cemetery, Holmdel. Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 PM, and Monday from 8: 30 AM.

DELLA PIETRO, Frank E., 81, of Matawan, passed away Wednesday, December 17, 2008, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel.

Born in Matawan, he was a lifelong resident. He was a district manager with Acme Supermarkets. He served in the Navy during peacetime. Frank was a active parishioner with St. Clement’s RC Church, Matawan; and president of the St. Clement’s Senior Club. He was also a founding member of the Oak Shades Fire Department.

Frank was predeceased by his parents, Felice and Antoinette (Ciccone) Della Pietro; siblings, Sam, Fred, Carmen Della Pietro, Philomenia lanzaro, Rose Ciccone and Anna Schwarz. Surviving is his wife, LaVerne M. Bertram Della Pietro; sisters, Theresa Esposito and Antoinette Guisti, both of Matawan; two sister-in-laws, Lucille Della Pietro of Keyport and Lillian Della Pietro of Matawan; and many nieces and nephews.

Maria del Carmen Serra, 102, of Hazlet, passed away December 16, 2008, at home.

Mrs. Serra was the wife of Constantino Serra, who passed away in 1970. Born in Barcelona, Spain, Mrs. Serra served as a nurse during the Spanish Civil War. She moved to Cuba in 1939, where she met Mr. Serra. They married in 1940, and had a son, Andres. They moved to Spain and lived there briefly, then moved to Weehawken, in 1967. In 1979, the family moved to Hazlet, where Mrs. Serra spent the rest of her life. Mrs. Serra enjoyed crocheting, reading and caring for her granddaughters.

She is survived by her son, Andres Serra, and his wife, Antonia; her granddaughters, Maria J.S. Bednarz and her husband, Ronald; and Carmen M. Sanchez and her husband, Diego; and her great grandchildren, Emma Sanchez and Ronald Bednarz, Jr.

Family and friends are invited Friday, 8: 30-9AM, at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, with a 9: 15AM Mass at St. Joseph’s RC Church, Keyport. Interment to follow at Weehawken Cemetery, North Bergen.

Janice J. Mahoney 71 of Holmdel died Saturday Nov. 29, 2008 at the Laurel Bay Nursing Home, Keansburg.

Born in Bayonne she lived in Bayonne before moving to Holmdel 43yrs ago. Mrs. Mahoney was an administrator at the Discovery House in Malboro for 10 years before retiring in 2000. Janice was a communicant of St. Clement’s RC Church, Matawan.

She was predeceased by her parents Andrew and Anna Balaney her brothers John and Harry Balaney and a sister Grace Grabowski. Surviving are her 2 sons Thomas P Mahoney Jr. of Holmdel and Sean and his wife Susan Mahoney of Lancaster, CA, 2 daughters and their husbands Anne Mahoney and Kevin Dunning of Mt. Laurel, NJ and Jerilynne and David Ragoonanan, of Flanders, NJ and 8 grandchildren Brian Mahoney, Christopher Mahoney, Kimberly Mahoney, Billy Mahoney, Matthew Mahoney, Jessica Dunning, Jackie dunning and Tara Dunning.

Funeral services will be held Friday 10am @ Day Funeral Home 361 Maple Place Keyport, NJ 07735 followed by 11am mass at St. Clement’s RC Church, Matawan. Interment will follow at the St. Gabriel’s Cemetery Marlboro. Visitation will be Thursday 2-4 & 7-9pm.
