Edward Driscoll

Spring Lake Heights resident, formerly of Demarest, Edward Joseph Driscoll died Wednesday, Aug. 17 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 75 years old.

Born in New York, N.Y., Mr. Driscoll resided in Demarest for over four years before moving to Spring Lake Heights in 1991. He had been employed as the sales manager for Springs Industries, Manhattan, N.Y., for 30 years until retiring in 1987. Mr. Driscoll was a graduate of Fordham University, Bronx, N.Y., and a US Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War, serving from 1951 to 1953. He was a communicant of St. Catharine’s and St. Margaret’s Parish, Spring Lake, and a member of the Manasquan Elks Lodge and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post.

Mr. Driscoll was predeceased by a sister, Frances Driscoll, in 1991.

He is survived by a sister, Patricia Taylor of Wayne; two nieces; one nephew; three great-nieces and one great-nephew.

The funeral arrangements were provided by O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

Veronica Manovill

Manasquan summer resident Veronica Condo Manovill died Wednesday, Aug. 17 at the Somerset Medical Center.

She was 87 years old.

Born in Raritan, Mrs. Manovill attended Somerset Hospital School of Nursing, Somerville, and in 1941 was “capped” at the commencement exercises from Philadelphia General Hospital School of Nursing. She began her registered nursing career at Somerset Hospital, now Somerset Medical Center, then moved to Rutgers College Infirmary, and, finally, to the General Services Administration, Belle Mead. After her marriage to Albert T. Manovill, Mrs. Manovill continued nursing part-time privately and substituting as a school nurse in the Bridgewater area. She was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, Martinsville, and a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Somerville. She was a former trustee at the Somerset Hospital School of Nursing.

Mrs. Manovill was predeceased by her husband in November 2004.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judy and James Beckwith of Somerville; a son and daughter-in-law, A. Timothy Manovill Jr. and Donya, of Manasquan; a sister, Claudia Pascale, Bridgewater; a brother, Ralph Condo Jr.; and grandchildren Michael Alan Beckwith, Katherine Ann Beckwith, and Elizabeth Bourne Manovill.

Thomas J. Tanner Sr.

Belmar resident Thomas J. Tanner Sr., died Thursday, Aug. 18 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was 94 years old.

Born in Armenia, Mr. Tanner was a survivor of the Armenian Holocaust as a child and came to the United States through Ellis Island in 1918. He lived in Union City then Jersey City for many years before moving to Belmar 50 years ago with his wife, Armand. Mr. Tanner had been the proprietor of Armand Cleaners, Jersey City, from 1946 until retiring in 1960. He was a member of the Shriners and also was a member of the Ocean Lodge No. 89, Wall, for over 50 years. He was a longtime member of St. Stephanos Armenian Church. Thomas enjoyed playing cards, trips to Atlantic City, spending the winter months in Delray Beach, Fla. and, most importantly, spending time with his family.

Mr. Tanner is survived by his wife of 59 years, Armand [nee Dinkjian] Tanner; a son and daughter-in-law, Thomas Jr. and Ashley Tanner of Wall; a daughter and son-in-law, Diane and Fred Mastroly of Jackson; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Stephanos Church, 1184 Ocean Ave., Elberon, 07740.

Funeral arrangements were provided by O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

V. Peter Iorio

Fort Meyers, Fla. resident V. Peter Iorio, formerly of Sea Girt, died July 27 at the Shady Rest Nursing Home, Fort Meyers.

He was 90 years old.

Mr. Iorio was born in Jersey City to Saverio and Mary Iorio. He was the former president of Iorio Construction, Co., East Orange and Newark. Mr. Iorio had also been a parishioner of St. Vincent De Paul Church, Fort Meyers, and formerly of St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt.

He was predeceased by his wife of 29 years, Ruth.

Mr. Iorio is survived by his wife Mary of Fort Meyers; four daughters, Ann McLaughlin of West Chester, Pa., Ruth French of Signal Mountain, Tenn., Kathleen Teixeria of Attleboro, Chattanooga, Tenn.; his sister, Rose Hastie of Spring Lake Heights; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were provided by O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

Sandra C. Ferraro

Sea Girt resident Sandra C. Ferraro died Sunday, Aug. 21, in her home surrounded by loving family.

She was 91 years old.

Born in Passaic, Sandra and her husband, Joseph, lived in Wycoff and Long Beach Island before retiring to Sea Girt in 1972. She was a homemaker, devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Mrs. Ferraro had been ill for some time with Alzheimer’s.

Mrs. Ferraro was predeceased by her husband Joseph, who was the director of packaging for Colgate Palmolive Company, Park Avenue, New York, before he retired.

She is survived by a sister and brother-in-law, Virginia and Anthony Caputo of Ft. Meyers, Fla.; two daughters, Nancy Santola, formerly of Summit and now Sea Girt, and Anita Jo Doremus and her husband Robert of Sea Girt; her granddaughter Susanne Santola Mulligan and her husband Gregory of New York and Manasquan; and many loving nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made to: Alzheimer’s Foundation, 322 Eighth Ave., 6th Floor, New York, 10001.

Funeral arrangements were provided by Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Mary Pierzynkowski Slaven

Brielle resident Mary Pierzynkowski Slaven died Monday, Aug. 29 at Sunnyside Manor, Wall Township.

She was 88 years old.

Born in Staten Island, Mrs. Slaven had lived in Hopelawn, a section of Woodbridge, from 1952 until 1962, when she moved to Allenwood, where she lived for many years. Mrs. Slaven had been employed for the Crisco Department of Procter & Gamble, Port Ivory, Staten Island for several years when she was younger.

She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth G. Slaven in August of 1996.

Mrs. Slaven is survived by two daughters, Carol Bennett, Brielle, and Mary Hazuka, Easton, Pa.; a sister, Catherine Brozean, Staten Island; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home.

Eileen O’Sullivan

Spring Lake Heights resident Eileen O’Sullivan died Saturday, Sept. 3 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 75 years old.

Born in New York City, Ms. O’Sullivan lived in Tuckahoe, NY before coming to Spring Lake Heights in 1987. She was an account supervisor with New York Telephone Company in New York City for 38 years before retiring.

Ms. Sullivan was predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Margaret Sexton O’Sullivan; her brothers Patrick, John and Dan O’Sullivan; her sister Elizabeth P. Butler; and her niece Elizabeth M. Butler.

She is survived by her sisters Margaret and Kathleen O’Sullivan, both of Spring Lake Heights. Ms. O’Sullivan also leaves 11 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

The funeral will be held today at 10 a.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Hwy 35, at New Bedford Road, Wall. A mass at St. Margaret’s Church Spring Lake will be held at 11 a.m., followed by committal at St. Catharine’s cemetery, Sea Girt.

Elizabeth H. Hurley

Brielle resident Elizabeth H. Hurley died Sunday, Sept. 4.

She was 78 years old.

Born in St. Louis, Mo., Mrs. Hurley resided in Maplewood for many years before moving to Brielle twenty-one years ago. She is a graduate of Miami University of Ohio. Mrs. Hurley was a member of the Brielle Women’s Club and The Church in Brielle and was an antique dealer in Point Pleasant Beach for many years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gerald L. Hurley.

Mrs. Hurley is survived by her brother, William Hughes; her children, Peggy Wiegand, Marybeth Hughes, Bonnie Brendle, Dan Hurley and Carol Gwyn-Williams; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brielle Women’s Club Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 502, Brielle, NJ 08730.

Funeral arrangements were provided by Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Nicholas J. Colella

Brick resident Nicholas J. Colella, formerly of Spring Lake, died Saturday, Aug. 27 at Shorrock Gardens, Brick.

He was 93 years old.

Born and raised in New York City, Mr. Colella was an insurance broker with Prudential Life Insurance Co. in their Chatham office. He retired in 1974 after a 29 year career. Mr. Colella was a parishioner of St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake, where he was also a member of the Holy Name Society. He was an accomplished singer and gifted musician, especially with the clarinet and saxophone. During the swing era, Mr. Colella conducted his own band, which highlighted his many talents and delighted many. He passed his love and appreciation of music on to his children and grandchildren.

Mr. Colella was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Carmella [nee Micelli] Colella; his wife of more than 60 years, Elena [nee Pantano] Colella; a brother, Louis Colella; and two sisters, Marie Farina and Ann Zitani.

He is survived by two sons, Anthony J. and Nicholas C. Colella; two brothers, Gerald and Jospeh Colella; three sisters, Rose DeLorenzo, Eleanor Albanese and Josephine Mazza; four grandchildren, Gianpaul, Guiliana, Christian and Allison; and many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.

The interment was at Holy Cross cemetery, North Arlington. Funeral arrangements were provided by McDonough Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Helen M. Barry Feeley

Sea Girt resident Helen M. Barry Feeley, formerly of Jersey City, died Friday, Sept. 2 at her home surrounded by her loving daughters.

She was 82 years old.

Born and raised in Jersey City, Mrs. Feeley lived there until moving to Sea Girt 19 years ago. She was a homemaker and dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Mrs. Feeley was a Communicant of St. Denis Church, Manasquan, and while she lived in Jersey City, she was a Communicant of Our Lady of Mercy Church.

Mrs. Feeley was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Robert B. Feeley, in November 2004 and her son-in-law, Richard Hall.

She is survived by six daughters and their spouses, Judith and John Tennissen, Wall, Patricia and Mark Rowen, Manasquan, Donna Hall of Westchester, NY, Marybeth and John Moran, Belleville, Ellen Marie and Paul Casteline, Middletown and Maureen and Robert Conley, Howell; a brother, Kevin Barry, Northville, NY; a sister, Kathleen Aslanian, Boonton; and nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to VNA of Central Jersey, 141 Bodman Place, Red Bank, NJ 07701.

Funeral arrangements were provided by O’Brien Funeral Home.

William Paul Michals Sr.

Spring Lake resident William Paul Michals, formerly of Cranford, died Thursday, Sept. 1 in his home.

He was 78 years old.

Born in Bayonne, Mr. Michals lived in Cranford for 40 years and summered in Spring Lake for 27 years before becoming a year-round resident five years ago. He was an attorney for his entire working career. At the time of his retirement in 1999, Mr. Michals was a Senior Partner with the firm of Michals, Wahl, Silver, Leitner, Tort, and Defazio, Woodbridge, of which he was a founding partner in 1978. Prior to this, Mr. Michals had been with the firms of Schreiber and Lancaster, and Conway, Reisman, Michals and Wahl in Newark. He received his Juris Doctorate from Rutgers University School of Law. Mr. Michals was also a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Navy. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council in Garwood, the NJ State Bar Assoc. and was a former parishioner of St. Michael’s Parish, Crawford.

Florence Minton Gaul

Manasquan resident Florence Minton Gaul died Tuesday, Sept. 6 at the Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune, after a short illness.

She was 99 years old.

Born in Fair Haven, Mrs. Gaul lived all her life the same house until moving to Manasquan in 2000. Her husband owned and operated the Old Orchard Restaurant in Eatontown for many years. Mrs. Gaul worked at various locales including Hearth Restaurant, Red Bank, Morey LaRue and Freedman’s Bakery, Fair Haven. She retired at the age of 92. She was a communicant of Nativity Church in Fair Haven and was a member of the Fair Haven Board of Elections for many years. Beloved to all who know her, Mrs. Gaul was an avid bridge player and took particular joy in gardening, sewing, community activities and was a past president of St. James Elementary and Red Bank Catholic High School PTA’s.

She was predeceased by her husband, Hubert A. Gaul, and by her brother, Russell H. Minton, who was a former mayor of Fair Haven..

Mrs. Gaul is survived by her son Hubert, Jr., and his wife Holly, Brick; a daughter, Maureen Walsh, Manasquan; two sisters, Gertrude Murphy, Wall, and Grace Conroy, Red Bank; five grandchildren, Sharon Emich and her husband Douglas, Nancy Ehrola and her husband Pentti, Patricia Housen and her husband Andrew, Manasquan, and Christine Gaul, Red Bank; and ten great-grandchildren, Lauren and Mary Elizabeth Emich; Shannon, Erin and Daniel Ehrola; Tara and Kelly Housen; Charles Peter and Mary Kate Mills; and many nieces and nephews.

Visiting will be today from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Hwy 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall. The service will begin at the funeral home at 8 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian burial 9 a.m. at St. James Church, Red Bank. Internment will be at Mt. Olive cemetery in Middletown.

Edith L. Seaberg

Wall resident Edith L. Seaberg died Monday, Aug. 5 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 87 years old.

Born in Sweden, Mrs. Seaberg moved here at the age of 4. She was a Wall resident most of her life. Mrs. Seaberg enjoyed crocheting and knitting but more importantly spending time with her family and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren that she loved so deeply.

She was predeceased by her husband, Gustaf Seaberg, in 2000, and by her two daughters, Susan Anne Seaberg in 1999 and Ava Edith Seaberg in 1946.

Mrs. Seaberg is survived by her children, Gustaf C. and his wife, Marilyn, and Lynn R. and his wife, Beverly, all of Wall; her brother, Evert Canberger of Sweden; and six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held at the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, 2652 Rt. 138, Wall, on Friday 3-6 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, 10 a.m. Internment will follow at the Glendola cemetery, Wall.
