Arlene E. Langenberger

Brielle resident Arlene E. Langenberger died peacefully Sunday, Aug. 28 in her sleep.

She was 86 years old.

Born in Batavia, Mrs. Langenberger, she moved to Brielle in 1967. Mrs. Langenberger retired from Jersey Shore Medical Center, as an LPN in 1986 and volunteered at the MCOSS Thrift Shop in Manasquan. She was a member of the Church in Brielle and a member of the Manasquan’s Women’s Club. At the time of her death, she resided at Sunrise of Wall, Wall Township.

Mrs. Langenberger was predeceased by her husband, James F. Langenberger; a brother, William Strouts; and a twin sister, Elaine Britt.

She is survived by a sister, Jeanette Fiero, LeRoy, N.Y.; son and daughter-in-law, James F. and Marjorie Langenberger, Brielle; a daughter and son-in-law, Amy and Kirby Hebert of Hackberry, La.; four grandsons, Gene Langenberger, Pa.; John Langenberger, Point Pleasant; Josh Langenberger, Howell; and Dustin Hebert of La.; and seven great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Church in Brielle Sunday, Sept. 4 at 2:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Church in Brielle.

Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, is in charge of arrangements.

John William Beckett III

Loris, S.C. resident, formerly of Brielle, John William Beckett, III died Sunday, Aug. 14, while racing his car during the time trials held at the 2005 Bonneville Speed Week, Wendover, Utah.

He was 57 years old.

Mr. Beckett was used to live in Laurinburg and Asheville, N.C. He graduated from Manasquan High School and the University of West Virginia with a dual degree in business administration and teaching. He taught in Toms River Vocational School, Haywood Community College and recently in Robeson County Career Center. News of Mr. Beckett’s death sent a shock wave though the tight-knit land speed racing community who had come to know him during his more than 20 years behind the wheel and as a designer of racing equipment. Mr. Beckett was also founder and former president of the East Coast Timing Association which holds speed racing events in North Carolina. He was a member of the Bonneville 200 mph club. Mr. Beckett is remembered by friends and racers as an experienced driver and dedicated race organizer.

He is survived by a daughter, Emily Jane; a son, John-Gordon; parents, John Jr. and Marguerite; a sister, Barbara; a brother, Jeffrey, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 47-51 South Street, Manasquan. A reception will follow the service.

Reinhold K. Dzenis Sr.

Beachwood resident Reinhold K. Dzenis Sr. died Monday, Aug. 29 in his home.

He was 72 years old.

Mr. Dzenis was born in Riga, Latvia and settled in Lakewood in 1950 before moving to Beachwood 35 years ago. He was an interior finisher for Sam & Paul Drywall Co. of Jackson for almost 40 years, retiring 10 years ago. He was a member of the Latvian Luterhan Church of Lakewood and New Brunswick and a member of the New Jersey Latvian Society in Howell. Mr. Dzenis was an avid historian of Latvian culture and loved to draw and paint.

He was predeceased by his wife, Bette Van Hart Dzenis in 2002.

Mr. Dzenis is survived by two sons, Reinhold, Jr. and Eric Dzenis, both of Beachwood; two daughters, Saundra and Suzanne Dzenis, also both of Beachwood; two brothers, Hugo Dzenis, Brielle, and Bruno Dzenis, New Brunswick; a grandson, Reinhold Dzenis, III; and several nieces and nephews as well as many other friends and relatives in Latvia and America.

Visiting hours will begin Friday 9:00 a.m. before an 11:00 a.m. Funeral Service at the Mastapeter Funeral Home, 270 Route 9, Bayville. Burial to follow at Woodlawn cemetery, Lakewood.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the Community Medical Center, J.P. Citta Cancer Foundation, 99 Route 37 West, Toms River, 08755, would be appreciated.

Mary Pierzynkowski Slaven

Brielle resident Mary Pierzybkowski Slaven died Monday, Aug. 29 at Sunnyside Manor, Wall Township.

She was 88 years old.

Born in Staten Island, Mrs. Slaven had lived in Hopelawn, a section of Woodbridge, from 1952 until 1962, when she moved to Allenwood, where she lived for many years. Mrs. Slaven had been employed for the Crisco Department of Procter & Gamble, Port Ivory, Staten Island for several years when she was younger.

She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth G. Slaven in August of 1996.

Mrs. Slaven is survived by two daughters, Carol Brozean, Staten Island, and Mary Hazuka, Easton, Pa.; a sister, Catherine Brozean of Staten Island; 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

The funeral service is today, Thursday, Sept. 1, at 8:45 a.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mark’s RC Church, Sea Girt.

Stella R. McCabe

Centerville resident Stella R. McCabe died Monday, Sept. 5 at Eagle Pond Rehabilitation and Living Center, South Dennis, after a long struggle with Parkinson’s Disease.

She was 94 years old.

Born in County Louth, Ireland, Mrs. McCabe lived in Newark and East Orange before moving to Centerville in 1980. She was a longtime summer resident of West Harwich. She retired as comptroller from Ward Baking Company. Mrs. McCabe was a communicant at Our Lady of Victory Church in Centerville and was a member of the Women’s Sewing Circle at the church. She was an avid gardener and known for her culturing of Jersey tomatoes that were the envy of the neighborhood. Mrs. McCabe loved the sea and found great comfort in it. She will be missed by all.

Mrs. McCabe was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Thomas J. McCabe, in 2004 and her son, Thomas T. McCabe, in 1999.

She is survived by her daughter, Judith McCabe, Manasquan; her brother, Thomas McCabe, Dundalk, Ireland; daughter-in-law, Carol McCabe, Mulkitio, Wash.; two grandsons, Thomas S. McCabe, Kirkland, Wash. and Michael D. McCabe and his wife, Magda, Sammanish, Wash.; two great-grandchildren, Michael G. McCabe and Marianna M. McCabe; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were provided by John-Lawrence Funeral Home, Marstons Mills, Mass.

Richard V. Hennessey

Brick Township resident Richard V. Hennessey died Thursday, Sept. 8 at the Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

He was 60 years old.

Born in Neptune, Mr. Hennessey lived in Long Branch, then resided in Brick for 22 years. He was employed as the church sexton by St. Uriel’s Episcopal Church, Sea Girt, for over 21 years.

Mr. Hennessey was predeceased by his father, Richard V. Hennessey, Sr.; his brother, Robert Hennessey; and by his close friend, Robert Senkbeil.

He is survived by his wife of nearly 36 years, Margaret [nee Cernero]; his daughter, Karen, Brick; his mother, Emma Blodis Hennessey and his brother, Thomas, both of Long Branch; and also by his sister, Katherine Hennessey, Jackson.

As an expression of sympathy, contributions made to the Australian Terrier Rescue, c/o Sydney Butcher, Treasurer, 5610 S. 91 East Ave., Tulsa, Okla., 74145-7955, would be deeply appreciated.

The Pable-Evertz Funeral Home of Point Pleasant is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy E. Cotta

Wall Township resident Dorothy E. Cotta died Saturday, Sept. 10 at the Ocean County Medical Center in Brick.

She was 75 years old.

Born and raised in Montclair, Mrs. Cotta lived in Wall for 58 years. She was a clerk at Atlantic Farms, Wall, for many years until her passing. Mrs. Cotta was a devoted mother and grandmother.

She was predeceased by her sister, Joan Clayton, many years ago.

Mrs. Cotta is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Brian T. and Catherine, Wall; Douglas S. and Wendy, Point Pleasant; Jay A. and Teresa, Brick; Kevin D. and Lisa, Farmingdale; and Christopher R. and Carol, Wall; three daughters, Jan A.; Robin E. and her husband, James Wilson; and Tracey B., all of Wall. She also leaves 16 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Donations may be made in her name to the Development Dept. at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, Charles B. Wang International Children’s Bldg., 699 Price St., Alexandria, Va., 22314-3157.

Funeral arrangements were provided by O’Brien Funeral Home.

Richard E. Fowler

Toms River resident Richard E. Fowler died Saturday, Sept. 10 in his home.

He was 81 years old.

Born in Manasquan, Mr. Fowler resided in Spring Lake Heights before moving to Toms River recently. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving during WW II. Mr. Fowler was a part of the D-Day invasion. He retired in 1988 as a janitor for the Manasquan High School. Mr. Fowler was an Exempt fireman with the Spring Lake Hts. Fire Company.

He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Elsie Marie Cottrell Fowler, in 2002.

Mr. Fowler is survived by a son, James Fowler, Fort Collins, Colo.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Patty and Jimmy Tchaplygin, Toms River, and Wendi and Paul Molod, Jackson; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Suzanne Polke Delle Chiaie

Spring Lake Heights resident Suzanne Polke Delle Chiaie died Friday, Sept. 9.

She was 54 years old.

Mrs. Chiaie was employed by Monmouth County Care Centers, Geraldine L. Thompson Division, as a head nurse and supervisor of nursing over a 19-year period. She was an active member of the Mountainside Hospital Alumni Association.

Mrs. Chiaie was predeceased by her father, John M. Groves, Sr., in 1986, and her sister, Linda Develly, in 2002.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Earl J. Delle Chiaie; her mother, Marie E. Groves; her son, Kevin M. Polke; her son an daughter-in-law, Shaun M. and Carolyn Bayley Polke; her stepson, Michael A. Fitzmaurice; her sister, Colleen Groves; her sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Kris Grossman; her brother-in-law, J. Michael Develly; her twin brothers, John M. Groves, Jr. and William T. Groves, and their wives, both Cindy Groves; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral arrangements were provided by O’Brien Funeral Home.

Charlotte Rose Palmer

A lifelong resident of Neptune Charlotte Rose Palmer died Wednesday, Sept. 7 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 73 years old.

Mrs. Palmer was a devoted mother who was a “Mom” before anything else. She loved all of her 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren and the time she was able to spend with them. Mrs. Palmer also loved to crochet, play bingo and watch her soap operas. For 20 years, she was a cook working at various healthcare facilities.

Mrs. Palmer was predeceased by her husband, Americus “Bud” Palmer, Jr. in October 2001; her three baby brothers and her brother Charles in 1976.

She is survived by her children, Ronna Frank of North Carolina; Suzanne Martinez of Point Pleasant Beach; Patricia Palmer of Wall; David Palmer of Point Pleasant Beach, Tommy Palmer of Wall; Dawn Palmer of Lakewood; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The family requests that memorial donations be made in her memory to the American Diabetes Assoc., 19 Schoolhouse Road, Somerset, 08873.

Margaret E. Hedges

Margaret E. Hedges, who lived in the West Belmar section of Wall Township, died Tuesday, Sept. 6 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 79 years old.

Mrs. Hedges worked for Acme Markets both in Belmar and Manasquan. She managed the dairy department in the Manasquan store. Mrs. Hedges was also employed at Evelyn’s Restaurant.

She was predeceased by her husband, Cedric, on December 1, 1999 and her son, Michael Hedges, on June 28, 2005.

Mrs. Hedges is survived by her granddaughter, Michele Rogers, three great-grandchildren and her companion, Robert Brand.

The Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, Wall was in charge of arrangements. A memorial service will be held at the Belmar Firehouse, 11th Avenue, Belmar, today, Thursday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.

Arlene [Tellone] La Gasse

Toms River resident Arlene [Tellone] La Gasse died Sunday, Sept. 11 at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood after a long illness.

She was 77 years old.

Born in Bristol, Conn., where Mrs. La Gasse lived for 14 years, she then lived in New Britain, Conn. for two years, Newark for three years, South Plainfield for 20 years, Cranford for 14 years, Mantoloking for 20 years and Toms River for the past 5 years. She was a surgical nurse for 27 years at Raritan Valley Hospital, Bound Brook. Mrs. La Gasse was a singer entertaining the USO during the Korean War.

She is survived by her husband, Richard La Gasse, Toms River; two sons, Joseph Tellone, Chicago, and Rusty [Edward] Tellone, Manasquan; two daughters, Susan Mc Coy, Manasquan, and Diane Walker, Pawtucket, Conn.; three stepdaughters, Linda Beresford, Cranford, Michelle La Gasse, Manasquan and Susan De Puy, Highland Ranch, Colo.; and seven grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, please give to the Red Cross Katrina fund.

Regina P. Tinello

Wall Township resident Regina P. Tinello died Sunday, Sept. 11 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 78 years old.

Born in Perth Amboy, Mrs. Tinello lived in Hopelawn [Woodbridge] before moving back to Perth Amboy in 1950 to raise her family. She then moved to Ocean Grove before moving to Wall in 1992. Mrs. Tinello was a chemist, specializing in animal science research, for Merck & Co. Inc., in Rahway. She worked 35 years with the company before retiring in 1986. Mrs. Tinello was a 1948 graduate of the former Douglas College, now Rutgers University, in New Brunswick with a bachelors of science in chemistry. She was a communicant of Holy Innocents RC Church, Neptune. Mrs Tinello was a wonderful mother and grandmother who was totally devoted to her family.

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Vincent John, in 1990.

Mrs. Tinello is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Terry T. and Garrett Van Ness and Nancy T. and Patrick Buddle, all of Wall, and three grandchildren Sarah Van Ness and Samantha and Vincent Buddle.

The service will begin today, Thursday, at 9 a.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, Hwy. 35 at New Bedford Rd., Wall. It will be followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Holy Innocents RC Church, Neptune. Interment will follow at St. Anne’s cemetery, Wall.

Donations may be made in Mrs. Tinello’s name to the Sharing Network NJ organ and tissue donation services 841 Mountain Ave., Springfield, 07081.
