John F. Walsh

Spring Lake Heights resident John F. Walsh died Tuesday, Feb. 15 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 75 years old.

Born in New York City, Mr. Walsh was a self-employed stock trader with Forbes, Walsh and Kelly in New York City before retiring in 2001. He was named Man of the Year at Angel Garden Home in Brooklyn and was an active benefactor of the Mount Loretto Home. He had served as president of the brokerage firm Doyle, O’Connor & Co. in New York City.

Mr. Walsh was an avid football, baseball and horse racing fan, was deeply religious and was a communicant of St. Rose Church, Belmar. Mr. Walsh was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of almost 48 years, Marie Bosco Walsh; son, David Walsh, Leonardo; daughter, Loretta Wolf, Gilberstville, Pa.; grandchildren, Joseph, Juliana Brian Andrew and Liesl. He also leaves a brother, James Walsh, Maspeth, N.Y. and a sister, Catherine Barton, Long Island City, N.Y.

Visiting will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m at the O’Brien Funeral Home, Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall Township. The funeral will begin at the funeral home on Friday at 8 a.m. The Mass will take place at 9 a.m. at St. Rose, Belmar, followed by committal in Holy Cross cemetery, Brooklyn.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Society for Progressive Supranuclear Palsy Executive Plaza III, 11350 McCormick Rd., Suite 906, Hunt Valley, MD, 21031 would be appreciated.

Margaret Gero

Point Pleasant resident Margaret Gero, whose family lives in Wall Township, died Saturday, Feb. 12 in her home.

She was 80 years old.

Born in Wilkes Barre, Pa., Mrs. Gero lived most of her life in New Jersey. She lived in Neptune for 40 years before moving to Point Pleasant in 2002.

Mrs. Gero was a nurse for over 35 years who loved her job. She worked at the Point Pleasant Hospital, the Salvation Army Infirmary, and the offices of Dr. Arnold Scalpati and Monmouth County Associates. She was devoted to her family and was happiest when spending time with them. Mrs. Gero was a parishioner of Holy Innocents Church, Neptune.

Mrs. Gero was predeceased by her husband of 36 years, William C. Gero, in 1981, along with two older brothers and a sister.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Randolph and Angelica Gero, Howell, Geoffrey and Christina Gero, Wall, and William and Kelly Gero, Brick Township; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Cynthia and Lester Richens, Neptune, Deborah Burke of Point Pleasant with whom she lived, Rebecca and Glenn Kopet, Point Pleasant, Margaret and Gabriel Valdivia, Wall, and Jaclyn Oehler, Point Pleasant; three sisters, Elizabeth Shaffery of North Arlington, Catherine Nagengast, of Arizona, and Anges Faber, of Florida, and brother, James Boyle, North Arlington. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren, Meg Johnson, Carolyn Gorsky, and Marnie Valdivia,; Michele, Randall, Angelica and Christopher Gero; Geoffret and Sara Gero, and William and Brian Gero, along with one great-grandson, Matthew Eric Johnson and many nieces, nephews and devoted friends.

Funeral arrangements were from the Ely Funeral Home, Neptune.

Daniel J. Mahoney

Manasquan resident Daniel J. Mahoney died Monday, Feb. 14.

He was 85 years old.

Born in Brooklyn, Mr. Mahoney grew up in Queens Village, New York and later moved out to Kings Park, N.Y. He served in the U.S. Army in World War II and a had a career in the New York City Fire Department. He retired to Manasquan in 1982 where he enjoyed fishing and relaxing by the Manasquan River Inlet watching the boat traffic.

Mr. Mahoney was predeceased by his wife, Marion Mahoney, in 1974. He was also predeceased by his second wife, Peggy Graham, who passed away in 2001.

He is survived by three children and their spouses, Carolynn Adams, Dan and Marilyn Mahoney, and Neal and Karen Mahoney; three step-children, Patty and Allen Hinni, Kathy and Mark Collins, and Mark and Susan Graham and 11 grandchildren.

Visiting will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, South Street, Manasquan. A funeral Mass will be held Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the St. Denis Church, Manasquan. Interment will be private in Long Island National cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Saint Barnabas Hospice at 300 Second Ave., Long Branch, 07740.

Rennie A. Aitkenhead

Spring Lake resident Rennie A. Aitkenhead died Thursday, February 24, in his home.

He was 64 years old.

Mr. Aitkenhead was the Merchandise Manager for U.S. Navy Resale Systems worldwide. After retiring from the Navy, he was employed as a banker for Sovereign Bank, Belmar. He was a communicant of St. Uriel the Archangel Episcopal Church, Sea Girt. Mr. Aitkenhead was a member of the Spring Lake Bath and Tennis Club.

He is survived by his wife, Jennie Lee Edwards-Aitkenhead; two sons, David A., Mendham; James A., Spring Lake; two daughters, Jennie Lee O’Donnell, Bermuda; Elizabeth A. Aitkenhead, Spring Lake; a brother-in-law, James P. Edwards, Spring Lake; and four grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Fredric A. Thrall

Wall Township resident Fredric A. Thrall died Monday, Feb. 28 in his home.

He was 85 years old.

Born in Newark, Mr. Thrall lived in Wall for the past 20 years.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth; a son, Steven D. and his wife Pamela, Wall; a daughter, Linda S. Becker and her husband George, Ft. Myers Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Anna D. Callahan

Spring Lake Heights resident Anna D. Callahan died Tuesday, March 1 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick Township.

Born in Buffalo, N.Y., Mrs. Callahan lived in East Orange and Orange before moving to Spring Lake Heights 30 years ago.

She was employed for 40 years with the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company as a supervisor with the PXBX Department in Orange and Newark, and upon retiring joined the Bell Telephone Pioneers.

Mrs. Callahan was a communicant of St. Catharine’s Church, Spring Lake, where she was a founding member of St. Catherine’s Association of Mature Persons [S.C.A.M.P.] and also belonged to the Christ Child and Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, Spring Lake.

She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Callahan.

Mrs. Callahan is survived by her nieces, Jane Ann Bestys, Caldwell, and Dorris Dowd, Marlton; a sister-in-law, May Swanson; eleven nieces and nephews, and seven great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

James Edward McNutley

Spring Lake resident James Edward McNutley died March 2 in his home.

He was 85 years old.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Mr. McNutley was a retired lieutenant of the New York City Police Department, having served for 20 years. He also served in the US Air Force during World War II.

A resident of Spring Lake for the past 26 years, he was an avid golfer who enjoyed many of Monmouth County’s beautiful golf courses.

Mr. McNutley was predeceased by his brother, John McNutley, and his sister, Loretta Keller.

He is survived by three sisters, Sister Florence Marie, Brooklyn, N.Y. and Margaret and Helen McNutley, Spring Lake; a nephew Kenneth Keller, Spring Lake, and two nieces, Dianna Albrecht, New York City, and Susan Hickey, Shrewsbury. He is also survived by loving grandnieces and grandnephews Katherine Keller, Spring Lake, and Maeve, William and Patrick Hickey, Shrewsbury.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

Raymond Patrick Reilly, M.D.

Spring Lake resident Raymond Patrick Reilly, M.D., died Wednesday, March 2, in the Meridian Hospice, Brick Township.

He was 85 years old.

Born in Jersey City, he lived in North Bergen before moving to Spring Lake full-time 18 years ago.

Dr. Reilly graduated from Xavier High School, New York, class of 1936. He attended St. Peter’s College, Jersey City, where he was a member of the class of 1940, and from New York Medical College, class of 1943. He also served in the Army Medical Corps during World War II.

Dr. Reilly was an orthopedic surgeon associated with the Jersey City Medical Center for 55 years. He was also affiliated with St. Mary’s Hospital, Hoboken, and the Meadowlands Hospital, Seacaucas. Dr. Reilly was chief of orthopedics at both. He was also affiliated with Palisade General Hospital, North Bergen.

In addition, Dr. Reilly was a former president of the North Bergen Guttenberg Kiwanis and a member of the Spring Lake Golf Club and Spring Lake Bath and Tennis Club.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Josephine Wymbs Reilly; two sons, Patrick D. Reilly, Spring Lake, and Raymond P. Reilly, Thousand Oaks, Calif., and two daughters, Maureen Luckett-Tuvey, Wall Township, and Kathleen Siciliano, Brick. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Patrick and William Reilly, Jeffrey Luckett, Daniel Siciliano, Raymond P. Reilly III, Nicole Thomas, Erin Reilly, and Kimberly Tuvey and five great-grandchildren, Patrick, Carolyn, and Julia Reilly, and Tristian and Ryan Thomas.

Funeral arrangements were from the Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar.

Suzanne Janeen Palian

Silver Spring, Md. resident Suzanne Janeen Dunn Palian, whose family lives in Brielle and Sea Girt, died Thursday, March 3, in Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring, Md.

She was 53 years old.

Born in Passaic, she lived in Essex Fells and summered in Sea Girt, before moving to Silver Spring, Md., in 1973.

Mrs. Palian was a graduate of Catholic University, were she earned a bachelor’s degree in music. She had been employed as a teacher at St. John the Evangelist School, Silver Spring, for the past 15 years. She was also a piano teacher.

Mrs. Palian loved the Jersey Shore, Broadway shows, animals [especially collies], her piano students and her school children. She had a selfless love for her family. Her memory will be carried on by her family, friends and her many students, some of whom have now entered college.

Mrs. Palian was predeceased by her mother, Geraldine T. Dunn, in December 2004.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Robert Palian; daughters, Rebecca Palian, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Beth Palian, Pasadena, Calif.; father, Joseph A. Dunn, Brielle, and sister and brother-in-law, Michael and Sharlene Dunn Reynolds, Sea Girt.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

Francis X. Coyle

Sea Girt resident Francis X. Coyle died Friday, March 4 in his home.

He was 84 years old.

Born in Scranton, Pa., he lived in Springfield before moving to Sea Girt 21 years ago.

Mr. Coyle was a union electrician working for International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers in New Jersey and Pennsylvania before retiring in 1984.

He was a decorated United States Air Force veteran, serving during during World War II from 1942-1946. As a technical sergeant, he was awarded the Air Medal with the Oak Leaf Cluster, a Presidential Citation, the Purple Heart, and the Distinguished Unit Badge.

He was also a communicant at St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt.

Mr. Coyle was predeceased by his brothers, John, Edward and Thomas Coyle.

He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ann; three sons, James and his wife Barbara, Scotch Plains, Francis, Little Egg Harbor and Kevin, Sea Girt; two sisters, Eleanor Barrett and Margaret Guerrucci, both of Scranton, Pa., and four grandchildren, Colleen, Brian, Jennifer and Matthew Coyle.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

Marie E. Hyldahl

Eatontown resident Marie E. Ohlott Hyldahl, whose son lives in Manasquan, died Saturday, March 5, in the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 92 years old.

Born in Carteret, she had lived in Rahway, and then in Asbury Park for 18 years before moving to Eatontown a year ago. Mrs. Hyldahl was a homemaker, a former member of the Presbyterian Church of Woodbridge, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Lodge, Carteret.

Mrs. Hyldahl was predeceased by her husband, Malcolm O. Hyldahl, in 1964.

She is survived by her son and his wife, Ronald and Mollie Hyldahl, Manasquan; two grandchildren Scott Hyldahl, Fredericksburg, Va., and Cynthia Duba, Oak Hill, Va., and three great-grandchildren Connor, Brooke and Summer.

Funeral services were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.
