Dorothy R. Morris

Manasquan resident Dorothy R. Morris died Friday, April 28 in Claremont Care Center, Point Pleasant.

She was 89 years old.

Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Morris lived there for most of her life before moving to Manasquan in 1982.

She was employed for 25 years with the County of Hudson, retiring in 1981.

She was a communicant of St. Denis Church, Manasquan.

She was a member of the local AARP organization.

She was predeceased in 1983 by her husband, Walter F. Morris Sr.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Walter F. and Laurita Morris Jr., Wall Township; two grandchildren, Brian Morris and Jane Mogerman; and one great-grandson, Timothy.

Funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

William P. Keaveney

Wall Township resident William P. Keaveney died Thursday, April 27 in Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch.

He was 70 years old.

Born in New York City, Mr. Keaveney lived in Blauvelt, N.Y., for 25 years before moving to Wall three years ago.

He was a graduate of St. John’s University.

He was the chief financial officer with Coffee America, coffee and cocoa importers, in New York City, before retiring in 2001. Previously, he served as CFO of Volkart Bros., New York City.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Bill was admired, respected and beloved for his many qualities, not the least of which was his unerring integrity. He made an impression on everyone he met, will be missed by all, and will live forever in his family’s hearts.

He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Keaveney.

Surviving are his wife of 42 years, Margaret McGovern Keaveney; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Kieran and Leigh Keaveney, and William Keaveney; one brother, Msgr. John Keaveney; two sisters, Ann Clifford and Jane Maloney; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall.

Contributions in Mr. Keaveney’s memory may be made to the National Ataxia Foundation, 2600 Fernbrock Lane, Minneapolis, MN 55447.

Emma Maria Weber

Brielle resident Emma Maria Weber died Friday, April 28 in her home.

She was 81 years old.

Born in Garfield, Ms. Weber lived most of her life in Clifton, before moving to Brielle in 1986.

She was employed for 43 years with New Jersey Bell Telephone, Passaic, before retiring.

She was a communicant of St. Denis Church, Manasquan.

She was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Justine

Schwartz Weber; her foster parents, Nicholas and Ana Kless; and three sisters, Justine Holovacs, Catherine Schneberger and Gertrude Sulek.

Surviving are two sisters, Juliana Harvey, Louisiana, Mo., and Anne Sulek, McMinnville, Ore.

Private funeral arrangements were from the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Daniel A. McKenna

Brick Township resident Daniel A. “Dan” McKenna, a former longtime resident of Sea Girt, died peacefully on Palm Sunday, April 9 in his home surrounded by his loving wife and close friends. He had fought his illness with courage and a positive attitude which made him a hero to all who knew him.

He was 41 years old.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa., Dan was raised in Clifton Heights, Pa., and he had lived in Sea Girt for many years before moving to Brick six years ago.

He was a graduate of Monsignor Bonner High School, Springfield, Pa., and had received a bachelor’s degree from Kutztown University, Pa.

He had been employed as a mason for Continental Construction, Red Bank, for two years, and prior to this, he had been employed by Murray Construction for many years. He also operated McKenna Golf Greens, Brick, for the past several years.

Dan had a great passion for golf which he shared with his wife and friends. He also was an avid Notre Dame football fan and had traveled extensively to see the Irish play football. He took pride in making a beautiful home for himself and his wife.

Surviving are his devoted wife, Anita J. Kowalski McKenna; his parents, James D. and Elise Mae Reilly McKenna of Clifton Heights; his brother, Michael McKenna of Upper Darby, Pa.; two sisters, Colleen Shivetts of Springfield, Pa., and Kathleen Donahue of Havertown, Pa.; and his nieces and nephews, Brian, Caroline, and Meghan Donahue, Andrew, Kevin, and Connor Shivetts, Gary, Ryan and Lauren Azzolini.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Leary Funeral Home, Spring field, Pa.

Contributions in Dan’s memory may be made to Melanoma Research, Penn Medical Development, Philadelphia.

Owen James Martin

Belmar resident Owen James Martin died Monday, May 1 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 71 years old.

Born in Bronx, N.Y., Mr. Martin lived in Belmar since 1971.

He was employed for 15 years with Railway Express, in New York, and then was employed for 23 years with the U.S. Postal Service, Manasquan, before retiring.

A staunch Irishman and sports fan, Mr. Martin had an encyclopedic knowledge of boxing. He loved his family. They were his life.

He was predeceased by three sisters, Vera Martin, Therese Martin, and Anne Suriani.

Surviving are his wife of 45 years, Christina Ina Martin; three daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Martin and James Stauffer, Holmdel, Tara and Jeff Bergner, Shrewsbury, and Siobhan and Chris Vuono, Shark River Hills; two brothers, James Martin, Brewster, N.Y., and Bernard Martin, New Fairfield, Conn.; one sister, Mary Gutierrez, Hazlet; and five grandchildren, Owen and Claire Stauffer, Griffin Bergner, and Zachary and Nicholas Vuono.

Funeral arrangements are from the Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. today in the funeral home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. in St. Rose Church, Belmar. Interment will be in Veterans Memorial cemetery, Arneytown.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Martin’s memory may be made to the St. Rose Building Fund.

Michael DiCairano

Manasquan resident Michael DiCairano died Tuesday, May 23 in his home after a long illness.

He was 86 years old.

Born in Italy, he was raised in New Rochelle, N.Y., and had lived in North Plainfield before moving to Manasquan in 1959.

Mr. DiCairano was a World War II Army veteran.

He was employed as project manager for the P.J. Saker Company of Freehold, retiring in 1982. He also worked for the Manasquan Beach Department for nine years.

Mr. DiCairano was predeceased by his brother, Anthony DiCairano of New Rochelle, and a sister, Anne Noto of California. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Marygrace Feola DiCairano, and many nieces and nephews.

His body has been donated to the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School Anatomical Association. Donations to the Visiting Nurses Association of Central Jersey or to any agency for the benefit of homeless persons are appreciated.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated June 10 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Denis Church, Manasquan.

Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan, is in charge of arrangements.

Edna Fowler

Manasquan resident Edna M. Fowler died Thursday, June 1 in Waterford Glen, Wall Township.

She was 95 years old.

Mrs. Fowler, born in Iredell County, N.C., resided in Manasquan since 1932.

She was employed by the Manasquan Board of Education for 17 years as the high school cafeteria manager and retired in 1975.

Mrs. Fowler was a 53-year member of the First Baptist Church of Manasquan, and belonged to the American Baptist Women’s Ministry and was a longtime member of the Knitwits, knitting hundreds of sweaters and hats for missions.

Mrs. Fowler was predeceased by her husband, Russell A. Fowler, in 1966; a daughter, Ruth Morton, and her husband, Edward; a stepdaughter, Dorothy Miller, and her husband, Kenneth; a sister; and five brothers.

Surviving are her stepdaughter Ruth Okerson and her husband, Lynden, of Spring Lake Heights; her sister, Cana Swicegood, her brother, Roger Sloan, and his wife, Doris, all of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her grandchildren: E. Jerome Morton and his wife, Christine, of Manasquan, Brenda M. Hunt and her husband, Kenneth, of Snohornish, Wash., Lynda O. Connolly and her husband, Martin, Temple, N.H., William R. Miller and his wife, Tracy, of Largo, Fla., Carolyn O. Kelly and her husband, John, Sea Girt; 14 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the First Baptist Church, 51 South St., Manasquan, 08736.

Joseph Pallitta

Avon-by-the-Sea resident Joseph J. Pallitta died Thursday, May 11 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune, with his family by his side.

He was 85 years old.

Mr. Pallitta was born May 3, 1921 in Newark to Joseph and Theresa Pallitta. He was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament, Newark. Mr. Pallitta was a graduate of Weequhaic High School and Seton Hall University, 1949, and attended Seton Hall Law. He was a lieutenant with the Essex County Sheriff’s Department. He also owned and operated Berkeley Auto Driving School, Orange.

During World War II, Joseph was a medic paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. He was taken prisoner by the German Army during the Battle of the Bulge on January 3, 1945. Several months after his capture, he and four other American soldiers escaped while being marched from one P.O.W. camp to another. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds and the Bronze Star for bravery.

Mr. Pallitta was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Eileen K. [nee Morris], in October 2001; a son, Jody, who died at birth; his parents, Theresa and Joseph; a sister, Kathleen Brophy; a sister-in-law, Marion Duffy; and two brothers-in-law, William Brophy and Francis Hill.

Mr. Pallitta is survived by his three daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen and K. Andrew Burt, Sea Girt [with whom he resided shortly], Maryann and Eugene J. Keller, Sea Girt, and Joleen and James Lemke Jr., Wall Township. He is also survived by his sister, Therese Shaw, and her husband, John; his sister, Adorisia Hill; his sister-in-law, Eileen Brophy; his brother-in-law, Honorable Neil G. Duffy; and 10 grandchildren — Allison and her husband, James Monge, Caitlin, Christopher and Kevin Keller, Joseph, Kristin, Kaela, Steven, Tara, and Kyle Lemke. Joseph was the much-loved uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He showed kindness and goodness to others, he always found the best in people. A perfect gentleman.

Barbara Walsh

Sea Girt resident Barbara Allaire Walsh died Friday, June 2 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was 78 years old.

Mrs. Walsh was born and raised in Bayonne, and moved to Sea Girt in 1972. She was a homemaker and a parishioner of Manasquan Presbyterian Church in Manasquan. She was a member and past president of The Holly Club of Sea Girt, a member of the Sea Girt Woman’s Club, and was president of Save the Sea Girt Lighthouse Committee. She was also a longtime volunteer at Bayonne Hospital, Bayonne. She was a loving wife and mother.

Mrs. Walsh was predeceased by her husband, Eugene K. Walsh, in 2003.

She is survived by her daughter, Alice A. Walsh of Sea Girt; a brother, Edwin Allaire of Austin, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may attend a memorial gathering on Tuesday, June 13, 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at O’Brien Funeral Home, Route 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall Township. A memorial service will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in her honor to Sea Girt Lighthouse, Beacon Boulevard, Sea Girt, 08750.

Matthew Edward Hayduk

Spring Lake Heights and Edison resident Matthew Edward Hayduk died Friday, June 2 at home, surrounded by his family and friends after a year-and-a-half-long battle with leukemia.

He was 23 years old.

Matthew was a first-year student at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft. He was a graduate of Spring Lake Heights Elementary School, attended Manasquan High School and graduated from Edison High School. As a boy, he was a member of Boy Scout Pack 69 of Spring Lake Heights, and played on the 1996 Champion Spring Lake Heights Grammar School baseball team, who earned the honor of playing ball at Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, N.Y., an event that made him truly proud.

He was an avid Yankees, Giants and Rangers fan and was a communicant of St. Catharine’s-St. Margaret’s Parish in Spring Lake and Our Lady of Peace Church in Fords.

Throughout his illness, Matt showed incredible strength, dignity and courage, and always continued to show concern for others before himself.

He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Edward L. Hayduk and Peter H. Maclearie.

He is survived by his parents, Matthew Hayduk and Nancy Maclearie-Hayduk; and his brothers, Luke and Nick Hayduk. He also leaves his paternal and maternal grandmothers, Ann Hayduk and Florence Maclearie, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, Brandon, Bre and devoted friends.

Matt’s family would like to express their appreciation to the PACCT Program for their kindness, compassion and support. Donations may be made to the PACCT Program c/o The Institute for Children with Cancer, 121 Somerset St., New Brunswick, 08901.
