Wesley Morris

Sea Girt resident Wesley H. Morris died Saturday, June 3 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 81 years old.

Mr. Morris had been employed as an electrician with I.B.E.W. Local No. 400, Wall Township, since 1948, until his retirement in 1990 and had served as the financial secretary and later as the treasurer for the retirees club of the Local for 10 years.

Born in Ocean Grove, he was a lifelong resident of Sea Girt and had been an associate member of the Sea Girt Fire Company. He was also a fisherman, boater, lover of animals, and square dancer who was affiliated with the Jersey Shore Promenaders and the Monmouth Squares. He was also an Army veteran of WWII.

Mr. Morris was predeceased by his sister, Audrey Bylsma.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Trina Bylsma Morris; his son, Frank W. Morris, Brick; his two daughters and their husbands, Linda and James Lynch, Spring Lake Heights, and Susan and Alfred Trappanese of Cream Ridge; a sister, Ann Burrows, of Winter Haven, Fla.; and two grandchildren, Antonio and Alicia Trappanese.

Flowers are accepted, or donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Greater N.J. Chapter, P.O. Box 39, Denville, 07834-0039.

Susan Chapman

Belmar resident Susan Chapman died Friday, June 2 at the Neptune City MediCenter.

She was 91 years old.

Mrs. Chapman was born in Pennsylvania and lived in Newark and Whippany before moving to Belmar in 1951. She was a devoted wife and mother who loved to garden.

Mrs. Chapman was predeceased by her husband, John C. Chapman, in 2000. She is survived by her son, John W. Chapman, Belmar; her daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and Howard Camp, Oakhurst; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar, handled the arrangements.

Bernadette Donahue

Wall Township resident Bernadette Ann Schank Donahue died Sunday, June 4 in her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was 72 years old.

Mrs. Donahue had been employed as a data entry clerk at Capture Resource, Wall, for the past 15 years and had worked up until the time of her death. Prior to this she had been employed as a medical secretary for Cedar Bridge Medical Group, Brick, for 22 years.

Born and raised in Elizabeth, she graduated from St. Mary’s School, Elizabeth, and had lived in Wall Township for the past 51 years. She was a parishioner of St. Catharine’s and St. Margaret’s Parish, Spring Lake, and was a member of the St. Mary’s Hilltoppers Club.

She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Kendig.

Surviving is her husband of 53 years, John Donahue; her son, John, of Wall Township; her two daughters, Kathleen Hager, Brick, and Colleen Donahue, Wall; her grandson, Richard John Hager; and her granddaughter and her husband, Elizabeth and Domenico Montanaro.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Popcorn Park Zoo, P.O. Box 43, Forked River, 08731

Margaret “Marge” Bartels Post

Brick resident Margaret “Marge” M. Bartels Post, formerly of Brielle, died Thursday, June 1 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 79 years old.

Mrs. Post had been employed as a school nurse for the Brick Township School System for 31 years before retiring in 1994. Prior to this, she had been a nurse at the Margaret Haig Maternity Hospital, Jersey City where she completed her formal nurse’s education and training.

She was a member of the Brick Township Education Association and the Brick Township Retiree’s Association. She had also been a congregant of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Manasquan for 40 years and was a member of the Manasquan River Golf Club, and the Brielle Women’s Club.

Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Brielle and Wall Township for many years, before moving to Brick seven years ago.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard J. Post Jr., in 1979.

Surviving is her devoted daughter, Christina and her husband, Lawrence Leming, Wall Township; and her loving granddaughter, Emma Post Leming. Marge’s greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, friends and especially her granddaughter, Emma. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 6 Osborn Ave., Manasquan, 08736 or the Jersey Shore Animal Shelter, 185 Brick Blvd., Brick,.

Robert O’Connor

Point Pleasant resident, Robert J. O’Connor, formerly of Spring Lake and Belmar, died Saturday, June 3, in Ocean County Medical Center, Brick.

He was 102 years old.

Mr. O’Connor was born in Newark and lived in Spring Lake and Belmar before moving to Point Pleasant seven years ago. He retired from Local 584, New York City in 1969. When he started working as a young man, he worked for a laundry service in Newark where he made deliveries with a horse and carriage; he later became a taxi cab driver, before working for Sealtest in Newark. Mr. O’Connor was a dedicated member of his union, and he was active in the Sea Girt Bowling Lanes.

He was predeceased by his wife, Anna, in 1968 and his good friend, Dorothy Mongeotti, in 1991.

Mr. O’Connor is survived by four nieces, Mary Haber, Toms River, Betty Nunn, Beachwood, Jane Byrne, Pine Beach, and Claire Byrne, Toms River; several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his dear friends with whom he lived, Noureen and Jim Beirne and their daughters, Rebecca and Jessica, Point Pleasant.

The funeral mass will be at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Point Pleasant, today, at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Sepulchre cemetery, East Orange. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Point Pleasant Boro First Aid Squad would be appreciated.

Douglas Graves

New Bern, N.C. resident Douglas R. Graves, whose son lives in Wall Township, died Sunday, May 28 surrounded by his sons and daughters at the home of his daughter, Patricia.

Mr. Graves was born in Chicago. He served in the Pacific during WWII as a fighter pilot in the Army Air Corps. He graduated from NYU with a BA in business.

He married and moved to East Brunswick, where he was a valuable member of the community and his church due to his many volunteer activities.

Mr. Graves moved to North Carolina in 1981 and was president of the homeowners association and an active member of St. Paul’s Roman Catholic Church. He loved to play golf.

Mr. Graves was predeceased by his first wife, Virginia, and his sisters, Helen Kraft and Grace Johnson.

He is survived by his wife, Vivian; his sister, Janet Poudevigne; his sons, Stephen Graves and his wife, Cindy, Wall Township, Bruce Graves and his wife, Rosemary, and Donald Graves; his daughters, Joanne Vandermark and her husband John, and Patricia Savarie and her husband Joseph; 14 grandchildren: Lisa, Christine, Charlie, Alison and Stephen Graves, Shannon, Bethany and Adam Vandermark, JD, Ashley and David Graves and Douglas, Stephen and Thomas Savarie.

A service will be held at St. Cecilia’s Church, Rockaway, at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 10.

Michael Isola

Sea Girt resident Michael R. Isola died Sunday, May 4 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 86 years old.

Mr. Isola was the founder and owner with his wife Catherine Joyce Isola, of Pat’s Tavern in Belmar from 1946 until 1986. He was a founding and lifetime member of the Pat Joyce Association in Wall Township. He was a parishioner of Saint Mark’s Roman Catholic Church in Sea Girt.

A Navy veteran, Mr. Isola was a torpedo man on a submarine in WWII. Born in Belmar, Mr. Isola lived there until moving to Sea Girt in 1954.

He was predeceased by his wife, the Catherine Joyce Isola; his two brothers, Joseph B. Isola and Chief Albert A. Isola [former Belmar Police Chief]; and three sisters, Theresa Grasso, Clementine Guinco, and Amelia Tilton.

He is survived by his niece, Marie Grasso of Avon; his nephew, Bruce Francis of Morristown, and his wife Betty; his grandnieces and nephew, Colleen Keil and her husband, Jeff, Patrick Francis and his wife, Isabel, Beth Knapp and her husband Blair. He is also survived by four great-grandnieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D St., Belmar today at 8 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in Saint Mark’s Roman Catholic Church, Sea Girt at 9:30 a.m. Internment at Saint Catharine’s cemetery, Wall Township. Visitation will be the morning of the funeral only from 8 to 9 a.m.

Floyd Coulter

Venice Fla. resident Floyd Crawford Coulter, whose sister lives in Wall Township, died Wednesday, May 31.

He was 74 years old.

Mr. Coulter was born on December 30, 1931 in Philadelphia. He was a sales manager for New Jersey Bell Telephone company and moved to the area in 1992 from Oak Island, N.C.

He was an Air Force Veteran and a member of the Elks and American Legion in New Jersey.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jane of Venice; his sister, Joann Rowe of Wall Township, and a niece and nephews. Services will be held in New Jersey at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to Tide Well Hospice and Palliative Care 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota FL., 34238 or Squan Beach Life Saving Station Preservation Committee, Inc.

John McBride

Lake Como resident John Edward McBride died Monday, June 5 in JFK Medical Center, Edison, after a long bout with Alzheimer’s Disease.

He was 80 years old.

Mr. McBride worked for the maintenance department of the Belmar Grammar School for 15 years before retiring in 1988. He was a member of the Saint Rose Holy Name Society and an usher at Saint Rose Church in Belmar. Mr. McBride graduated from Saint Rose High School in 1944.

He was an Army Veteran of WWII.

Mr. McBride is survived by his wife of 47 years, Rose Marie McBride; two sons, James E. McBride, Lake Como, and Michael V. McBride, Neptune and his wife Vanessa; three grandchildren, Michael, Shawn and Jason McBride; a sister, Florence Truex, Belmar; and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from the Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D St., Belmar, today at 8 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered in St. Rose Roman Catholic Church, Belmar, at 10 a.m. Visitation is in the morning of the funeral only. Internment will be at Brig. General William Doyle, Veterans cemetery, Arnytown.

Margaret Leone

Belmar resident Margaret Leone died Monday, June 5 in her home.

She was 75 years old.

Mrs. Leone worked as a secretary for Buck Engineering in Wall Township before retiring in 1990. She was a parishioner of Saint Rose Roman Catholic Church, Belmar. Born in Jersey City, she lived in Wykoff before moving to Belmar full time in 1981.

Mrs. Leone is survived by her daughter, Lisa Leone, Brick; her son, William Leone, Harwick Port, Mass.; and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral from Reilly Funeral Home, 801 D Street, Belmar, Friday at 10:30 a.m. A Memorial Mass will be offered in Saint Rose Roman Catholic Church, Belmar, at 11:30 a.m. Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.

Sam C. DiFeo

Spring Lake resident Sam C. DiFeo died Friday, May 5 in the Meadowlands Hospital, Secaucus.

He was 90 years old.

Born in New York City, he was raised in Jersey City, and lived there and in Spring Lake before moving to Spring Lake permanently in 1975.

Mr. DiFeo was the founder of DiFeo Automobile Dealerships.

He attended P. S. 5 and graduated from St. Peter’s Prep in 1932. He began work after school and on weekends at Joe DiFeo’s Pastry Shop, owned and operated by his parents, where he continued to work while attending NYU.

In 1938, he met the former Julia Massano, whom he later married in 1942.

He began his automobile business in 1945, purchasing a used car lot in Jersey City with a partner and, a few years later, opened his first dealership in Linden. He operated this company until 1953, then purchased another dealership, located in Hudson County, DiFeo Buick in West New York. His automobile business continued to expand to include Hudson Toyota, Park Pontaic, J&F Oldsmobile, DiFeo VW, J&S Ford and DiFeo Subaru and Mitsubishi. He continued to remain very active in the management of his dealerships well into his 80s.

He was involved with, and honored by, many organizations. He was a longtime benefactor of St. Peter’s Prep, as founding member of an annual golf tournament, member of the president’s council and, along with his wife, Julia, he established endowed scholarships at St. Peter’s Prep and St. Peter’s College. He was involved with the United Way, Boys and Girls Club of Hudson County, the Dante Alighieri Society, the Jersey City Police Department and several other charitable organizations and generously sponsored many events both large and small in Jersey City.

He received an honorary degree from St. Peter’s College, was installed as a Knight of Malta and was inducted into the Jersey City Circle of Honor.

He was predeceased by his sister, Maria Mancini.

He is survived by his wife, Julia Massano DiFeo; his sons, Joseph, Denis and Samuel DiFeo; and his daughter, Cecilia Iannaccone; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He also leaves his sisters, Genevieve Luisi, Esther Blasucci, Grace Balesteri, Yolanda DelGaizio, Vivien Tartaglia and Millicent Cappadonna.

Funeral arrangements were from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.
