Thomas J. Sheehan

Shrewsbury, Vt. resident Thomas J. Sheehan, formerly of Spring Lake, devoted husband of Janice and father of five, died Tuesday, Aug. 15 in the Rutland Regional Medical Center in Vermont.

He was 70 years old.

Born in Jersey City, he grew up in Dumont and lived most of his life in Spring Lake.

He retired in 2000 and moved with wife to Shrewsbury, Vt. to fulfill their lifelong dream of living in the Green Mountains.

Tom was a graduate of Montclair University. He taught accounting and business law at Bergenfield High School. He then became treasurer of the Biltmore Theater in New York City where he played a significant role in the productions of “Hair” and “Barefoot in the Park.”

Tom was a member of the Spring Lake Fire Company No. 1, the Treasurers and Ticket Sellers Union Local 751 and the Lambs Club, 130 West 44th Street, N.Y.C., New York. He also was an active volunteer for the Meals on Wheels Program in New Jersey and in Vermont.

Tom adored cooking for his family, listening to opera, playing piano for his grandchildren, reading, ski vacations, rooting for the Giants and celebrating Thanksgiving at the Jersey Shore with his extended family.

Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Janice Walker Sheehan; his children, Thomas B. Sheehan of Belmar, Jennifer Sheehan Binns of Fair Haven, Ellen Sheehan Sheil of Duxbury, Mass., Daniel Sheehan of Little Silver, and Sarah Sheehan Matthews of Shrewsbury, Mass.; a brother, Jerry Sheehan of Seattle; and nine grandchildren, Joseph, Meghan, Timothy, Brian, Robert Sean, Hannah, Emma, Christopher and Molly.

Entombment was at St. Catharine’s cemetery, Wall.

O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township handled the arrangements.

Vincent A. Capone

Lakewood resident Vincent A. Capone, a former longtime resident of Wall Township, died Thursday, Aug. 17 in Shorrock Gardens Care Center, Lakewood.

He was 88 years old.

Mr. Capone had been employed as a foreman for C.F. Malanka Corporation, Union City for many years.

Born in West Hoboken, he had lived in Wall Township for 26 years and then in Belmar for 10 years before moving to Lakewood 13 years ago. As a resident of Wall Township, he will be always remembered for his kindness to the children of the town by his coaching and volunteering at North Wall Little League Baseball. He was also known as an avid New York Yankees and Jets fan.

He was predeceased by his son, Vincent, in 1976.

Surviving is his wife of 51 years, Gloria Scrivani Capone; his children, Thomas and Helene Capone, Michael and Charles Capone, Andrew and Cynthia Capone of Wall Township; his stepson, Stephen and Jane Marchetta; his three daughters, Joanne and Nick Costentino, Rosemary and Nick Callas, and Michele and Ronnie Santangelo; 22 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.

Interment was at St. Catharine’s cemetery, Wall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 400 Morris Ave., Suite 251, Denville, 07834-1365. O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township handled the arrangements.

Lillian E. Campbell

Wall Township resident Lillian E. Campbell died Tuesday, Aug. 15 in her home.

She was 69 years old.

Lillian retired in 1992 after working 33 years as a civil service employee for the Veterans Administration at Lyons Hospital in Bernardsville and at Naval Weapons Station Earle in Colts Neck.

She was a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, Spring Lake and an active member of the Susannah Rachael Circle, Wall.

She was a member of the P.O.W. Seniors of Wall and the Wall Township AARP No. 4483. Lillian was a volunteer at Point Pleasant Hospital for many years, lastly volunteering at Shore Rehabilitation Institute, Point Pleasant.

Her favorite pastimes were spending time with her family, reading and traveling. She was a loving sister, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed.

She was predeceased by her parents, J. Marcellus and Lillian A. Campbell.

Surviving is a sister and brother-in-law, Mary Janet Campbell Scrapa and Larry Scrapa of Barton, Vt.; five nieces, Mary Alimonti of Richland, Lori Petronglo of Pittsgrove, Vicki Lolli of Minotula, Lorraine Phillips of Millville, and Kandi Grieser of Highlands; and a nephew, Lawrence Scarpa of Clayton. Also surviving are many great-nieces and nephews.

Interment was at Old Tennent cemetery, Manalapan.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church, West Lake Ave., Spring Lake, 07762 or to Compassionate Care Hospice, 172 Route. 50, Seaville, 08230 in her memory.

Dr. James F. Dougherty, Jr.

Sea Girt resident Dr. James F. Dougherty Jr. died in his home on Saturday, Aug. 19, surrounded by his loving wife of 53 years and his daughters.

Dr. Dougherty was born and raised in Chester, Pa. and graduated from St. Joseph’s Prep of Philadelphia. He attended the University of Notre Dame where he earned his bachelor’s of science degree in pre-medical science. While at Notre Dame, he was a member of the Navy B-12 program and the Academy of Science Honors Program. In 1948, Dr. Dougherty received his doctorate of medicine from the University of Rochester, in Rochester, N.Y.

He was called to service in the Navy during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1952. He served as radiologist aboard the hospital ship U.S.S. Consolation in both Korea and Japan. He returned to complete his residency in radiology at Hahnemann University Hospital in Philadelphia.

He started his radiology career at Overlook Hospital, Summit, as an associate radiologist. After five years, he and his family moved to Sea Girt and he joined the staff of Point Pleasant Hospital. He served as the first chief of the department of radiology at Point Pleasant and Brick for the next 30 years.

Dr. Dougherty was a diplomat of the American Board of Radiology, a member of the American College of Radiology, the American Medical Association and the New Jersey Radiological Society. In 1988, he was presented with the Golden Merit Award for 50 years of outstanding service as a physician.

After retirement from Ocean County Medical Center, he continued to practice radiology for 10 years throughout the country as a locum tenens. In addition, he was a member of the board of directors for the Allaire State Bank. He later was named a regional director of the Bank of New York.

Dr. Dougherty enjoyed traveling with his wife, Frances, throughout the United States, Europe, Russia, China, Israel, as well as Australia. He was a member of the Tequesta Country Club and a former member of the Manasquan River Golf Club. As an avid reader, he kept abreast of current events, sports and financial news. He was a communicant of St. Mark’s Catholic Church in Sea Girt and a member of the Holy Name Society.

Surviving is his wife, Frances McCarthy Dougherty. He also leaves four daughters, Eileen Dougherty of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., Kathleen Boozan of Pennington, and her husband, James A. Boozan, M.D., Patricia Dougherty Allen of Palm Desert, Calif., Elizabeth Hebb of Coral Gables, Fla. and husband Stuart M. Hebb; and six grandchildren, Sean and Jim Allen, Jay and Hope Boozan and Laura and Claire Hebb. He is also survived by two brothers, the Rev. Edward J. Dougherty of Lawrenceville, Joseph Dougherty of Drexel Hill, Pa.; and a sister Mary Elizabeth Warren of Atlanta.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral, Home Highway 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall. The funeral will be on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a Mass St. Mark’s Church Sea Girt at 10:30 a.m. and committal at St. Catharine’s cemetery, Wall.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to St. Mark’s Social Concerns Committee, Sea Girt or the Parkinson’s Disease Foundation, P.O. Box 96268, Washington, D.C. 20077.

Garrett Owen Brodhead

Brielle and Naples, Fla. resident Garrett Owen Brodhead died Wednesday, Aug. 16 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 82 years old.

Mr. Brodhead was a Realtor and owner of Brodhead Realty in Hackensack, prior to this he was in the construction business for many years.

He was a Navy Veteran of World War II, a graduate of the University of Maryland, past commander of the Hackensack Yacht Club, member of the Salaam Masonic Lodge in Livingston, and a member of the Naples Cruise Club.

Surviving is his wife, Jeannette Becker Brodhead; his faithful dog Zoe; and his dear friends, the Flaherty and Flanagan families.

Interment was at George Washington Memorial Park, Paramus.

Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan handled the arrangements.

Patricia Ker Remley Grigg

Spring Lake resident Patricia Ker Remley Grigg died Wednesday, Aug. 16 in St. Joseph’s Medical Center, Towson, Md.

She was 64 years old.

Mrs. Grigg had been a self-employed Certified Public Accountant in Wall Township prior to her retirement. She was a member of the Island Heights Yacht Club and a communicant of St. Catharine and St. Margaret’s Parish, Spring Lake.

She was a summa cum laude graduate of Monmouth College in 1983. Born in Irvington, she had lived in Brielle for many years before moving to Spring Lake six years ago.

Surviving is her husband of 40 years, Frederic C. Grigg; her son and his wife, Ford and Jennifer Grigg of Brielle; and three grandchildren, Kaeleigh, Declan and Liam Grigg.

Interment was at St. Catharine cemetery, Wall. O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall, handled the arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to the Vascultis Center of Johns Hopkins University Hospital, 600 N. Wolfe St., Baltimore, Md. 21287.

Lucinda Anne Molloy

Spring Lake resident Lucinda Anne Molloy [nee Ikeda] quietly died on May 11, in Honolulu, Hawaii, after her six-year battle with breast cancer.

She was 63 years old.

Born on Feb. 27, 1943 at Gila Rivers, Ariz. in a dusty internment camp for Japanese Americans during World War II, Lucy, as she would always be called, was the eldest of five siblings born to the late Albert S. and Toshi “Jean” Ikeda and raised in Honolulu, where she graduated from the University of Hawaii.

She moved to the Jersey Shore in 1966 and received her master’s degree in guidance from Monmouth University. A Spring Lake resident for 25 years, she was an educator for 34 years, mainly at Land O Pines School in Howell, retiring in 2000.

Lucy was predeceased by her beloved husband, Mark, in 2003.

She is survived by her children, Thomas and Elizabeth “Betsy” Brower, both of Honolulu; and stepchildren, Patricia Molloy and Annemarie [Wade] Cook, both of Rochester, N.Y. She was a devoted grandmother to Liam and Brendan Cook. She is also survived by siblings Albert [Geneva], Atlanta, Jennifer [John] Hausler, Pearl City, Hawaii, Diane [Nelson] Fujio, Honolulu, and Roger [Shereen], Hillside, Calif.; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Mrs. Molloy was president of the Jersey Shore Branch of the American Association of University Women, charter member of the James A. Michener Society and Bookworms Book Club of Spring Lake, a member of the Spring Lake Heights Historical Society, Spring Lake Homeowners Association, Howell Township Education Association, Saint Catharine’s Parish, MT “Money Talks” Investment Club, Spring Lake Garden Club and Spring Lake Women’s Club. She volunteered for the FoodBank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, Interfaith Meals to the Homebound and Visiting Nurses of Central New Jersey.

In May 2002, she returned to her childhood home, Honolulu, to be closer to her aging parents and her children. Here she was able to daily view her beloved Diamond Head and Waikiki and in spite of her cancer, served as president for both the Newcomers Club of Honolulu and Make Today Count cancer support group, served as board member for the Diamond Head/Koko Head branch of AAUW, and founded a book club, gourmet group and women’s investment group. She also belonged to the Outdoor Circle, University of Hawaii Women’s Campus Club, the Red Hat Mamas of Honolulu, was a communicant at Sts. Peter & Paul Church and volunteered at Maluhia Long Term Care Facility and for the Lokahi Program.

Lucy Molloy was a special person that loved everyone she ever met and was everyone’s best friend. She will live on forever in our hearts because of her legacy of love, hope, and inspiration.

Services were held in Honolulu. Private interment services will be held in Spring Lake at a later date. Condolences may be sent c/o Tom Brower, 1350 Ala Moana No. 2502, Honolulu, Hawaii 96814.

Raymond G. Lane

Manasquan resident Raymond G. Lane died Monday, Aug. 21 in Care One, Wall Township.

He was 81 years old.

Born in Point Pleasant Beach, Mr. Lane moved to Manasquan in 1951.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in World War II. He was employed at Bendix Corporation, Eatontown, as a design engineer, retiring in 1984.

He was predeceased by his son, Jonathan “Jack” Lane, in 1976.

He is survived by his spouse of 57 years, Marie Zendzian Lane; daughters, Judith C. Lane, Syracuse, Utah and Nancy A. Lane, Belmar; one brother, Robert Lane, Brick; and grandchildren, Jacqueline, Jessica and Jonathan.

A funeral service will be held today at 11 a.m.at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South St., Manasquan. Interment will follow in Atlantic View cemetery, Manasquan. Visiting will be today from 9 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.

E. Lois [Granucci] Conway

Former Conn. Baptist Home [in Meriden] resident, E. Lois [Granucci] Conway, whose son lives in Brielle, died Tuesday, Aug. 15 in the Masonic Healthcare Center, Meriden, Conn.

She was 81 years old.

Ms. Conway was born in Greece, N.Y. on Sept, 21, 1924, daughter of the late Rev. Edward and Frances Ritter Conway. Until her retirement in 1993, she worked in medical records department at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center, West Campus.

Ms. Conway was predeceased by three sisters, Marian F. Conway, Mary Lee Kittle and Annaline Brown, and two brothers, Edward H. Conway and Harold A. Conway; and Michael’s first wife, Marcia Granucci.

She is survived by five sons and daughters-in-law, Michael F. and Lynn Oldham Granucci of Brielle, Timothy E. and Pamela Granucci of Cheshire, Thomas C. and Gail Granucci, Wallingford, Robert W. and Cheryl Granucci of Hamden, and Jay R. and Noreen Granucci of Killingworth; and 11 grandchildren, Matthew, Katie, Benjamin, Daniel, Christopher, James, David, Eric, Andrew, Jillian and Liam.

Memorial services and burial will be private. There are no calling hours. If friends so desire, gifts in her memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice. The B.C. Bailey Funeral Home, Meriden, Conn. handled the arrangements.

Deborah Iannacone-Weiss

Belmar resident, Deborah Iannacone-Weiss died Tuesday, May 30 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 54 years old.

She was the daughter of the late Alfred and Anne Marie nee Maltino Iannacone; the sister of Susan von Rudenborg; the aunt of Michael Abrunzo; the niece of John C. Iannacone and Joseph Maltino.

Arrangements were handled by McDonough Funeral Home, Manasquan.

Margaret H. Ross

Spring Lake resident Margaret H. Ross died Thursday, June 8 in King Manor Care Center, Neptune.

Born in Spring Lake, Mrs. Ross was a lifelong resident. She was a member of St. Andrews Methodist Church, Spring Lake, where she taught Sunday school. Mrs. Ross had worked as a salesperson at Steinbach’s Department Store, Asbury Park, retiring in 1977. She later worked in the Spring Lake North Pavilion beach office during the summer.

Mrs. Ross was predeceased by her husband, Albert Ross Sr.; her son, Albert “Bud” Ross, Jr.; her parents, Stanley V. and Caroline Cobb Height; her brothers, Stanley Height Jr. and Robert C. Height; and her sister, Mary Virginia Height.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Anne H. and Milton Eckman, East Petersburg, Pa.; her daughter-in-law, Frances Ross, California; her sisters-in-law, Catherine Vogel, Wall, and Bette Height, Spring Lake Heights; three grandchildren: Cynthia, Kim, and Holly, California; and two great-grandchildren, Maya and Sonya, California.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Andrew’s Methodist Church, 407 West Lake Ave., Spring Lake, 07762 or to a charity of your choice.
