Kyle A. Donovan

Wall Township resident Kyle A. Donavan died Wednesday, May 31 in Monmouth Medical Center Hospice Care Center, Long Branch.

She was 50 years old.

Ms. Donovan, who held a master’s degree, was a self-employed massage therapist.

She is survived by her father, Gilbert C. Donovan; a sister, Gayle Ann Moran, along with two brothers, Gilbert C. Donovan III and Glen G. Donovan. Ms. Donovan was predeceased by her mother, Bronson Paige Donovan.

Services were private under the direction of Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, Wall Township.

Anna P. Kostrzewski Rhoads

Spring Lake Heights resident Anna P. Kostrzewski died Friday, June 9 in Burnt Tavern Nursing and Rehab Center, Brick.

She was 91 years old.

Mrs. Kostrzewski Rhoads was a homemaker and a longtime member of the Harvey United Methodist Church, Point Pleasant. Born in Bristol, Conn., she had lived in Belmar for five years and then in Point Pleasant for 50 years before moving to Spring Lake Heights eight years ago.

She was predeceased by her husband, Harry W. Rhoads.

Surviving is her daughter, Ethel Luzzi of Spring Lake Heights; her son, Harry W. Rhoads Jr. of Toms River; a brother, Bob Kostrzewski of Barnegat; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

The arrangements were handled by O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

Barbara Allaire Walsh

Sea Girt resident Barbara Allaire Walsh died Friday, June 2 in Ocean Medical Center, Brick.

She was 78 years old.

Mrs. Walsh was born and raised in Bayonne and moved to Sea Girt in 1972. She was a homemaker, a parishioner of Manasquan Presbyterian Church, Manasquan, a member and past president of The Holly Club of Sea Girt, a member of the Sea Girt Women’s Club, and was president of Save the Sea Girt Lighthouse Committee. She was also a longtime volunteer at Bayonne Hospital, Bayonne. Mrs. Walsh was a loving wife and mother.

She was predeceased by her husband, Eugene K. Walsh in 2003. She is survived by her daughter, Alice A. Walsh, Sea Girt; a brother, Edwin B. Allaire, Austin, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

Donations in lieu of flowers can be made in her honor to Sea Girt Lighthouse, Beacon Blvd., Sea Girt, 08750

Arrangements were handled by O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

Frederick E. Eggers

Frederick E. Eggers, M.D., formerly of Spring Lake, died Friday, June 9 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

He was 81 years old.

Dr. Eggers practiced medicine through his Spring Lake office for many years before retiring. He also was a staff physician emeritus at Jersey Shore University Hospital, the former Fitkin Hospital.

Dr. Eggers was a graduate of Columbia University, New York City. He also attended University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Mich., Michigan State University, Lansing, Mich., Texas Tech University, Lubbock, Texas, and finally received his doctorate from N.Y. Medical-Flower in New York City, N.Y. Dr. Eggers was a member of St. Andrew’s United Methodist Church in Spring Lake and was very active in the church choir. He also sang in the Columbia University Chapel Choir and sang with the Robert Shaw Chorale along with Fred Waring.

He was predeceased by his sons, Glenn Frederick in 1986 and Kevin in 1961.

Surviving are his loving wife of 52 years, Annie Laurie Eggers; his daughters and sons-in-law, Lynne and Fred Truex and Kim and Fritz Lander. He also leaves his brother and sister-in-law, Wallace and Mary Eggers; and three grandchildren, Matthew, Morgan and Devon.

Helen Ireland Newman

Manasquan resident Helen Ireland Newman died Tuesday, June 13, in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

She was 94 years old.

Born in Ocean Grove, Mrs. Newman lived in Bradley Beach before coming to Manasquan in 1924. She was a homemaker. Mrs. Newman was a member of the Manasquan United Methodist Church for over 48 years, and belonged to the church’s Women’s Society. She belonged to the Ladies Auxiliary of Manasquan Hook & Ladder Co. No. 1 and was a volunteer with MCOSS.

Mrs. Newman was predeceased by her husband, Chester Thomas Newman, who died in 1985.

She is survived by two sons, Chester Thomas Newman Jr., Manasquan, and Avery Addison Newman, Manasquan; one sister, Evelyn Geller, Pa.; one niece, Ella E. Migash, Red Lion, Pa.; and great-nieces and nephews, Kelly, George and Steven.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home, Manasquan. Interment will follow in Atlantic View cemetery, Manasquan. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Manasquan United Methodist Church, South Street, Manasquan.

F. Harold Sickles

Avon-by-the-Sea resident F. Harold Sickles died Sunday, June 11 in Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune.

Born in Kearny, he lived in Morris Plains before moving to Avon in 1967.

Mr. Sickles graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy as a first lieutenant and served the country during World War II.

He was a founder and director of Phillip House in Long Branch and an active member of A.A. Mr. Sickles was a member of St. Uriel Church, Sea Girt.

He was predeceased by two sons, David R. and Philip R.; his daughter, Alison Sickles; one brother, Raymond; and a sister, Lois S. Knott.

Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Dorothy Sickles, Avon; one son, John, and his wife, Kathleen, Manasquan; three daughters, Dorianne O’Shea, New York City, Shelby Sickles, Wall Township, and Shawn Sickles, Howell; one brother, the Rev. Clarence W. Sickles, Hackettestown; and two sisters, Elanor Rittman, Manasquan, and Mildred Freigant, Prospect, Conn.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated on Saturday, June 17 at St. Uriel the Archangel Church, Third and Philadelphia boulevards, Sea Girt at 11 a.m. A celebration of life will follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the New Hope Foundation, 715 Route. 520, Marlboro, 07746, in honor of Philip House.

Wayne L. Hartman

Spring Lake Heights resident Wayne L. Hartman died Saturday, March 25 in his home.

He was 86 years old.

Mr. Hartman was born in Franklin, Pa. and grew up in the Bolivar, N.Y. area. He served in the Army in Tunisia and Italy from 1942 to 1945 and achieved the highest NCO rank of sergeant major. Following the war, he obtained a bachelor’s degree from Ursinus College and a master’s degree from Bucknell University.

He moved to Farmingdale with his family in 1959 and taught English at Freehold High School and later at Point Pleasant Beach High School. He was an avid reader and collector of old and rare used books. He operated a book stand at the Collingwood Auction for many years. Following his retirement in 1980, he lectured in many area libraries on his favorite topics, 19th Century American poetry and Impressionist artists.

He is survived by his long-time companion, Gertrude Satterfield of Spring Lake Heights. He is also survived by his former wife, Dorothy Hartman of Farmingdale; six children, Charles of Albany, Andrew of Baltimore, James of Buffalo, Paul of East Brunswick, Anne of Howell Township and Mary of the Virgin Islands. He also has nine grandchildren. He was beloved by Mrs. Satterfield’s children, Donald, Dennis and Patrick, and her six grandchildren.

Mr. Hartman donated his body to the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

Memorial services were under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Meridian Hospice, 4900 Route 33, Suite 200, Neptune 07753.

Jean A. Fernicola

Clearwater, Fla. resident Jean A. Fernicola, whose son lives in Brielle, died Sunday, March 26 in Tampa, Fla.

She was 83 years old.

Born in Belleville, Mrs. Fernicola lived in Short Hills for 35 years before moving to Point Pleasant Beach in 1974. In 1990, she relocated permanently to Clearwater, Fla.

She was the owner/operator, along with her husband, of the Bel-Aire Motel, now the Amethyst Beach Motel, currently owned and operated by her son, granddaughters and extended family.

She was a communicant of St. Brendan Church, Island Estates, Fla., and a former parishioner of both St. Rose of Lima Church, Short Hills, and St. Peter’s Church, Point Pleasant Beach.

She was predeceased by her husband of 35 years, John N. Fernicola, and by her parents, Antonio and Louise Nardiello.

Surviving are one son, John A. Fernicola, Brielle; one daughter, Judith Duchess, Tampa; two granddaughters, Amber and Ashley Fernicola; and a large extended family, including Theresa and Nicole Perrone, of Brielle.

Funeral arrangements were from the Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Wall.

Antonio “Bubby” Manna

Brick Township resident Antonio “Bubby” Manna, whose son lives in West Belmar, died March 28 at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood.

He was 83 years old.

He retired after 45 years of service for the City of Asbury Park, where he worked mainly for the water department. He was a member of the Odd Fellow Lodge, Neptune. He was a member of the West Belmar United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, doing crossword puzzles and watching baseball. Born in Neptune, he moved to Brick Township in 2000.

He was predeceased by his wife of 45 years, Myrtle Manna, in 2004. He is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Theodore Hay of West Belmar and Richard W. and Vickie Hay of Bayfoot Bay, Fla.; a daughter and son-in-law, Anna Marie and John Gordon of Lakewood; two grandchildren, Brooke and her husband, Michael Morrow, and James Hay; two great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, William and Irene Manna of Eatontown, and a sister, Nancy Matthews, of Belmar.

Delia Connolly Patten O’Driscoll

Delia Connolly Patten O’Driscoll, of Wall Township, died March 30 at Tower Lodge Nursing Home.

She was 80 years old.

Mrs. O’Driscoll had been employed as a registered nurse at Bay Ridge Hospital, Brooklyn, N.Y. and had received her training in Ireland and London during World War II.

Born in Mount Holly, County Mayo, Ireland, she came to the United States in 1948 and lived in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn until moving to Wall Township 10 years ago. She was an avid golfer and was a member of Bantry Golf Club, County Cork, Ireland and had been the Ladies Club President in 1985 and 1986. She was predeceased by her first husband, Patrick Patten, and her second husband, Gerald O’Driscoll.

Surviving are her sons and their wives, John and Elizabeth Patten of Sea Girt and Patrick and Dolores Patten of Middletown; her sister, Molly Curtis of Roseville, Mich.; three grandchildren, Patrick, Manus and Devin; and a great-granddaughter, Molly.

Interment was at Greenwood cemetery, Brooklyn. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the O’Brien Funeral Home, Wall Township.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Alzheimer’s Association, 400 Morris Avenue, Suite 251, Denville 07834-1365.

Clare M. Coyle Morris

Clare M. Coyle Morris, of Spring Lake, died on Sunday, April 2 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in neptune.

She was 94 years old.

Born in Jersey City, she lived in Union City and in Bloomfield before coming to Sea Girt in 1976 and recently to Spring Lake. Mrs. Morris was an attorney with the State of New Jersey, specializing in realty and marital law before her retirement in 1981.

She was a graduate of the College of St. Elizabeth, Convent Station, in 1932; Fordham University School of Law in 1936; and was admitted to the New York Bar in 1937.

She was a communicant of St. Mark’s Church in Sea Girt where she was a member of the Altar Rosary Society. She was predeceased by her husband, William F. Morris; her sons William F. Morris Jr. and Michael Morris; and her brothers, Thomas and John Coyle.

She is survived by her son Robert J. Morris and daughter-in-law, Sandra, of Browns Mills; her daughters, Clare Morris St. Romain of New Orleans and Ellen Morris of Alexandria, Va.; her grandchildren, Mary Kate Lord, Eileen Vieites, Robert Jr., Christine and Scott Morris; and one great-grandson, Robert William Lord. She also leaves her sister, Margaret Brody.

The funeral will be from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Route 35 at New Bedford Road, Wall, today at 8:30 a.m. Mass will be at St. Mark’s Church, Sea Girt at 9:30 a.m. today, followed by committal at St. Catharine’s cemetery, Sea Girt.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her name may be made to the College of St. Elizabeth, P.O. Box 476, Convent Station 07961.

Agnes Dillon Day

Belmar resident Agnes Dillon Day died Tuesday, March 21 at her home.

She was 88 years old.

Born in 1917, Agnes was a lifelong resident of Belmar. She graduated from St. Rose High School and Georgian Court College. Agnes was past president of the Saint Rose Grammar School and Saint Rose High School PTAs, as well as a member of the Saint Rose Rosary and Altar Society and Belmar Democratic Club. She was a lifelong communicant of Saint Rose Parish, Belmar. Her grandfather, Thomas S. Dillon, was the mayor of Belmar in the 1930’s. Without hesitation, Agnes shared her many talents and unwavering joie de vivre with her family and friends. Over the years, many were touched by her kindness and her generous spirit. Besides being an avid gardener, Agnes was a gifted seamstress. She created everything from dresses from her daughters’ wedding trousseaus to lovingly sewn Halloween costumes for grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Agnes loved to cook and was an accomplished gourmet. She will be fondly remembered for her sophisticated palate, her Sunday dinners and her famous cakes for all occasions. Agnes was the consummate entertainer. She loved company and her home was always a place of warmth and refuge for all of her loved ones. In later years Agnes was grateful for her giving caretakers, especially Shirley Paraison.

She was predeceased by her husband, Stephen J. Day Jr.; her son, Brian Joseph; and her daughter, Jeanne Marie.

Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Margaret and Arthur Plummer, of Belmar; son and daughter-in-law, Stephen III and Sharon, of Belmar; her daughter and son-in-law, Mary Ann and Thomas Dean, of Clifton Forge, Pa.; and her granddaughters, Pamela Plummer and Jennifer Robinson, of Belmar, Dr. Deidre Day, of Wilmington, Del., Catherine Wright and her husband, Jason, of Richmond, Va., and Kelly Dean, of Clifton Vorge, Va.. Also surviving are her beloved nieces and nephews, Cathy Siple, Margie DiSantis, Thomas Dillon and Christopher Dillon.

The Reilly Funeral Home, Belmar, was in charge of arrangements.
