Francis Roy Hall

Wall Township resident Francis Roy Hall died Sunday, Aug. 27, in Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood.

He was 73 years old.

Mr. Hall was the owner and operator of a business that sold parking control equipment. Roy was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Asbury-Wall Elks No. 128, Wall Republican Club, a member of American Legion No. 0103, Punta Gorda Fla., an honorary member of the Jersey Aero Club, the Air Force Association, National Rifle Association, Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association and the Moose Lodge of Cheraw, S.C.

Roy recently finished building his home in Cheraw, S.C., which he named the “crooked tree.” He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and his friends that he considered his extended family in Cheraw, S.C. He was born in Neptune, and has been a lifelong resident of the shore area.

He is survived by a son, Francis Roy Hall II, and a daughter and son-in-law, Debra Ann and Michael Dransfield, both of Wall. He is also survived by a brother, Joseph A. Hall of Wall, and two grandchildren, Michael and Ryan Dransfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Central Jersey Chapter, 740 Broad Street, Shrewsbury, 07702.

Orender Family Home for Funerals, Manasquan, handled the arrangements. Condolences can be e-mailed to www.orenderfamilyhome.com. Interment was private.

Thomas A. Gallagher

Brielle resident Thomas A. Gallagher passed away on Thursday, Feb. 8 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was 69 years old.

Tom was born in Jersey City on April 14, 1937. He moved to Brick in 1955, and then to Brielle in 1975.

He was the owner and operator of Laurelton Welding Service in Point Pleasant Beach. He started his business in 1962, serving commercial fishing vessels all along the east coast. He enjoyed his business for 45 years. He was also the proprietor of Cline’s Anchorage in Brielle from 1975 to 1979.

Tom was a man with a strong character and a kind heart. He was a true and generous friend to many people. He was well-respected and very talented in his trade, a true craftsman. Tom was a caring and dedicated father and grandfather, and was very proud of his family.

Tom enjoyed camping, fishing, spending time with his friends, the “G” men, and his devoted German Schnauzer, Rudy. Tom had a larger-than-life personality and will be missed deeply by many friends.

Tom is predeceased by his father Thomas Gallagher in 1967 and his mother Mary Gallagher in 1994.

Tom is survived by his wife Nancy of 47 years; children Sheila and Russell Crane of Howell, Michelle and Lewis Voight of Wall, Thomas J. and Virginia Gallagher of Point Pleasant, and Todd Gallagher of Brielle; two brothers, Richard and Kevin Gallagher of Tenn.; sister Joan Gallagher of Whiting; 11 grandchildren, Krystal, Russell, Ian, Austin and Madison Crane, Brittany, Alex, Weston and Mitchell Voight, Josh and Shannon Gallagher, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends were invited to call Sunday, Feb. 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Neary-Quinn Funeral Home in Manasquan, with a funeral service Monday morning on Feb. 12.

Entombment followed at St. Catharine’s cemetery in Sea Girt.

Elizabeth A. “Betty” Woolley Longo

Wall Township resident Elizabeth A. “Betty” Woolley Longo passed away Wed., Feb. 7 at Care One at Wall.

She was 70 years old.

A lifelong resident of the Jersey Shore, she was raised in Ocean Township and resided in Wall Township for over 50 years. She attended Asbury Park High School and was employed by NJ Bell Telephone Company in Asbury Park and Red Bank.

She also drove a school bus for the Montessori Academy in Neptune, and from 1970 until retirement, assisted her husband and son with the family business, Longo Tree Service.

A beautiful woman who possessed the gift of a green thumb, Mrs.. Longo enjoyed gardening, loved roses, and enjoyed boating and crabbing.

In her own quiet way, with her warm smile, she had the ability to touch your heart and leave a lasting impression.

She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, James V. Longo in 2002, her father George Woolley, and a brother Sidney Woolley.

Mrs. Longo is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James V. and Ann Longo of Brick; her mother, Gladys Woolley of Spring Lake, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law, George and Marybeth Woolley of Manasquan; sister Gloria Basile of Spring Lake, Fla.; sisters-in-law Anna Benham of Upland, Calif., and Catherine and Wallace Wall of Albany, N.Y.; dear friend Helen Camoosa of Ocean Township, and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends were invited to call Friday, Feb. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Orender Family Home for Funerals in Manasquan. A funeral service was offered Sat., Feb. 10 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by entombment in Monmouth Park in Tinton Falls.

Elinor Henrietta Dross

Spring Lake Heights resident , Elinor Henrietta Dross, formerly of Bayshore, N.Y., died Tues., Feb. 6 at the Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune.

She was 81 years old.

Mrs. Dross, a homemaker, was a longtime member of the Southward Ho Country Club in Brightwaters, N.Y. where she loved to play golf. She was born and raised in Queens and lived in Massapequa Park, West Islip, and Bayshore, N.Y.. before moving to Spring Lake Heights just a month ago.

She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas F. Dross in 1988 and by her brother, George A. Klein, Jr.

Surviving are her son Thomas E. Dross, Jr. and his wife Maria S. of Manasquan; daughter Susan Tumbarello and her husband Phillip of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y., and four grandchildren, Michael, Gregory, Cory, and Jordan.

Visitation was Thurs., Feb. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home in Wall. The service was conducted that evening at 8:45, with a burial at Calverton National cemetery in Long Island, in Calverton, N.Y.

Donations may be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, 801 Broad St., Shrewsbury, NJ 07702.

Francis Asbury Newman Sr.

Spring Lake resident Francis Asbury Newman, Sr. died at home on Feb. 8.

He was 84 years old.

Mr. Newman was a kind and loving husband,, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, and will be sorely missed.

Born and raised in Spring Lake, he lived his entire life in Spring Lake. He graduated Manasquan High School, and then had a military career as a marine, fighting in the Central Pacific in 1944 and 1945.

Mr. Newman retired as a postmaster of Spring Lake. He began his postal service career in 1946 as a letter carrier and was appointed Postmaster in 1962, retiring in 1977.

Mr. Newman was a past member of the American Legion, associate member of Spring Lake Fire Co. #1, and Goodwill Fire Co. #2. He was also a past institutional representative of the cub scouts, past president of Spring Lake-Sea Girt Little League and member of Spring Lake-Brielle Rotary Club.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Alice; three sons and daughters-in-law, Francis A. Jr. and MaryAnne Newman of Ocean Township, Stephen and Arlene Newman of Wall, William and Karen Newman of Spring Lake; nine grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

Visitation was held Monday, Feb. 12 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home in Manasquan, as well as a service on Tues., Feb. 13 at 10 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Spring Lake Fire Company No. 1, 1007 5th Ave., Spring Lake, NJ 07762.

Ernest J. Dabinett. Jr.

Four Seasons at Wall resident

Ernest J. Dabinett Jr., of Four Seasons at Wall, passed away peacefully at Burnt Tavern Nursing & Rehab Center, Neptune on Weds. Feb. 7.

He was 81 years old.

He began his professional career working as the Editor of the East Rutherford Leader in 1952, after which he went on to become an F.B.I. Special Agent serving until 1980. At the time of his retirement from the F.B.I., he went on to work for the United States Department of State from 1982 until his final retirement from public service in 1992.

Born in Passaic, he grew up in East Rutherford, and raised his own family in Rutherford. In 1980 the family relocated to Bay Head where they resided before moving to Wall Township 10 years ago. He was a graduate of New York University in 1950 with a degree in Journalism, after having proudly served his country in the US Navy Air Corps for four years from 1943 to 1947.

He was a member of the Society of Retired F.B.I. Agents, the newly formed American Legion Post in Four Seasons of Wall, and had been a member of the Knights of Columbus Council at St. Mary’s Church in Rutherford and the Rutherford Elks. Since moving to the Shore area he had become a member of the Manasquan River Golf Club and a Communicant of St. Denis RC Church in Manasquan.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years Margaret “Peggy” Whelan Dabinett; his son Ernest John III of NYC, four daughters and their spouses, Lynn Oldham and Michael Granucci of Brielle, Lee and James Blumenstock of Allenwood, Laurie and Tony Mijares of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Lizabeth and Christopher Galinis of Brielle; 11 grandchildren including Christopher and his wife Annie, Lauren, Ricky, Alexandra, Chris, Lindsey, Eric, Kelly Kerrin, Drew, and Olivia and two great grandchildren, Chloe and Ava.

Funeral service was held Mon. Feb. 12, 2007 at 8:45 a.m. from the O’Brien Funeral Home, Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd. in Wall followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. at St. Denis RC Church, 90 Union Ave. in Manasquan.

Visiting was Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.

Private burial will be in the NJ Veterans cemetery in Arneytown .

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to the Food Bank of Monmouth & Ocean Counties, 3300 Rt. 66, Neptune, NJ 07753 in his memory.

Richard D. Garretson

Manchester resident Richard D. Garretson, formerly of Toms River and a retired Wall Township High School principal, passed away peacefully on Feb. 9, at Ocean Medical Center, Brick with his loving family at his side after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was 71 years old.

He was born Sept. 17, 1935 in Beachwood and lived most of his life in Toms River before moving to Renaissance in Manchester. Dick’s long list of accomplishments began when he was a student at Toms River High School where he was President of the Student Council and a participant in Boys State. Richard also excelled in athletics. He was the last Toms River athlete to letter in four sports in one year. He earned a total of 11 varsity letters in football, basketball, baseball and track. As a sophomore he played on the 1952 undefeated football team. He was part of the All Ocean County basketball team and was second team All State Group II in football. He continued his athletic career at Rutgers University earning five varsity letters in football and wrestling. Never having wrestled prior to college, he finished third in the NJ AAU as a freshman and third in the Eastern Regional Championship. He went on to earn the prestigious Donald Leslie Coursen Memorial Award as the top senior scholar/athlete. Dick continued his role of scholar/athlete by receiving the Upson and Alumni Scholarships to Rutgers, as well as the War Memorial Scholarship in his junior and senior years. He co-founded the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternity, served as treasurer of the Varsity “R” Club, was a member of the Scarlet Key and was selected to Who’s-Who of American Universities. He graduated with honors in 1958. Pursuing further education through the years, Dick earned his Master’s Degree at Rutgers University and took post graduate courses at Montclair and Monmouth Universities to earn his certification in administration and supervision. He started his professional career by teaching English at Toms River High School in 1958 and then Physical Education and Health from 1959-1964. Here he also coached football, wrestling, track and baseball. In 1965 he moved on to Wall High School and Wall Township became his “second home”. He truly made his professional mark at Wall High School where he was the Athletic Director from 1965 to 1974, Assistant Principal from 1968 to 1974, and Principal for 18 years from 1974 to 1992. He touched countless numbers of lives as a teacher, mentor, coach and friend. Throughout his career, he had many affiliations including the National Association of Secondary School Principals, New Jersey Council of Education and the Rutgers Alumni Association. He also served on many local, regional and state committees including the Middle States Evaluation Committee; the Task Force Committee to examine teenage drunken driving in Monmouth County, the selection committee for the Governor’s School and the State Department of Education Comprehensive Review Team. Dick ended his career by serving as interim principal at Mainland High School and supervising student teachers for Monmouth University. He also contributed to his community as a Biddy Basketball and Little League coach in Toms River as well as working with the Wall Community Alliance and the Juvenile Conference Committee. Dick was voted in to the Toms River Hall of Fame as well as the Toms River Sports Hall of Fame and the Wall Foundation for Educational Excellence Hall of Fame.

Although he accomplished a lot in his career, he considered his best accomplishment to be his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Torre Garretson; his daughter Laura and her husband Marty and their children Mike and Nicole Meszaros; his son Rick and his wife Kate and their children Kelly and Rocky Garretson; his brother-in—law, Frank Torre and his wife Juanita Martinez and their daughter Maria Torre and many other loving family and friends.

He is predeceased by his parents John Garretson and Sarah Trenery Garretson.

We welcome family and friends to join us on today at Anderson & Campbell Funeral Home in Toms River, from 2 to 4 p.m.and 6 to 9 p.m. with a Memorial Ceremony at 8.

The Family is currently establishing the Richard D. Garretson Memorial Fund.

Until such time as the Fund is established, donations can be made payable to Martin Meszaros, 1404 Pippin Dr. , Manasquan, NJ 08736.

Marie Barry Cosgrove

Spring Lake Heights resident, formerly of Jersey City, died on Sun., Feb. 11 at her home.

She was 78 years old.

Born and raised in Jersey City, she lived there before coming to Spring Lake Heights 16 years ago. Mrs. Cosgrove served as a school administrator with the Jersey City School System before retiring. She was a graduate of the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Hoboken; the College of St. Elizabeth in Convent Station, and earned her Masters degree from Columbia University. She was an active member of the College of St. Elizabeth College Alumni Association. She was also an instructor at St. Peter’s College in Jersey City. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph A. Cosgrove and her brother Edward V. Barry. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Margaret P. Barry, her nieces and nephew, Barbara Maghan, Marybeth Mezzacappa, and David Barry and many dear grand nieces and nephews. She also leaves her devoted care giver, Remi Ogundipe. Visiting hours were Wed., Feb. 14 at the O’Brien Funeral Home Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd in Wall from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Mass is today at St. Margaret’s Church in Spring Lake at 11:00 a.m. and followed by interment at Holy Cross cemetery North Arlington

Mary J. Zunick Greskovich

Manasquan resident died Sun., Feb. 11 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick.

She was 91 years old.

Born in Herminie, Pa., she lived in Fredericktown, Pa. for many years. She then lived in Ocean Township before coming to Manasquan 12 years ago. Mrs. Greskovich was employed as a seamstress at Steinbach’s Department Store in Asbury Park before retiring, and was a devoted wife and mother.

She was predeceased by her brother, Charles Zunick.

She is survived by her beloved husband, Paul E. Greskovich; her daughters and sons-in-law, Margaret and Dennis Crawford of West Allenhurst, Kathleen and Robert Whille of Brielle; her son and daughter-in-law, Paul E. Jr. and Mardi Greskovich of Jamison, Pa.; and her grandchildren, Douglas Crawford and his wife Sharon, Julie and Matthew Whille and Leigh Ann and Bethany Greskovich. She also leaves her sister Margaret Devecka. Relatives and friends will be received at the O’Brien Funeral Home Hwy 35 at New Bedford Rd. in Wall on Saturday, from 8 to 9 a.m. followed by mass at St. Denis Church Manasquan at 9:30 a.m. Committal will follow at a later date.

Martha A. Conry

Spring Lake Heights resident Martha A. Conry died Feb. 11 at the Jersey Shore University Medical Center of Neptune.

She was 89 years old.

Born in County of Roscommon Ireland, she was raised in Newark where she was employed as a cosmetologist. Mrs. Conry also lived in Elizabeth before relocating to Spring Lake Heights in 1970.

Mrs. Conry was predeceased by her husband, John Conry, a son John Conry, and her brother Jack McDermott.

Surviving is son Kevin Conry of Spring Lake Heights; sister Rita O’Brien; grandchildren Fallon Erin, Shannon Trisha, John, Jennifer, and Tara, in addition to her two great-grandchildren Katelyn and Tyler.

Visitation was held yesterday, on Wed. Feb. 14 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Johnson-McGinley Funeral Home, 2652 Highway 138 [corner of Rt. 18 N. entrance] in Wall.

Today, funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. from the funeral home, followed by a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at the Church of St. Rose, 603 7th Ave. in Belmar with Pastor Michael J. Waites presiding.

Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven cemetery in East Hanover.
