Esther Reid Terhune

Marco Island, Fla. resident Esther Reid Terhune, formerly of Manasquan died Sat., Feb. 10 at Heron House in Naples, Fla.

She was 91 years old.

Born in Point Pleasant, Mrs. Terhune lived in Manasquan for many years before moving to Floirda in 1995. She was formerly employed by the Acme Market in Manasquan.

She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Manasquan Hook and Ladder No. 1, and a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Manasquan First Aid Squad.

She was also a member of the United Methodist Church of Manasquan.

Mrs. Terhune was predeceased by her husband, Harold Terhune, who died in 1956.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Charlene and Robert Brain of Marco Island, Fla., Sandra and William Salemme of Longview, Texas; sister Althea Schwarz of Point Pleasant, granddaughter and her husband Terri and Michael Ray; grandson John Salemme, and great-granddaughter Ashley Ray.

The funeral service will be held tomorrow at 11 a.m. at the United Methodist Church of Manasquan.

Interment will follow in Greenwood cemetery in Brielle.

Visiting hours are today from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home on 39 South St. in Manasquan.

Contribitions can be made to the Mansquan First Aid Squad, 65 Broad St., Manasquan, NJ 08736, Manasquan Hook and Ladder Co. No. 1, 33 Abe Vorhees Dr., Manasquan, NJ 08736, or Manasquan United Methodist Church, 23 Church St., Manasquan, NJ 08736.

William J. ‘Billy’ Manning

Davie, Fla. resident William J. “Billie” Manning, formerly of Shark River Hills, died Sun. Feb. 4 in Pembroke Pines. He leaves behind many loved ones, including a sister living in Sea Girt.

He was 70 years old.

Mr. Manning was born in Newark and raised in Shark River Hills.

He was a graduate of St. Rose High School. He was a Sgt. and proud member of the U.S. Army 501 First Airborne Infantry serving the Far East. Upon returning to the United States, he served with the 101 Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Ky.

Mr. Manning was a 40 year member of Asbestos Workers, Local 32 in Newark, VFW Post 2639 in Neptune, American Legion Post 346 in Neptune, and AMVETS Post 16 in Bridgewater. Upon retirement he relocated to Florida where he resided for the last seven years.

He was predeceased by his parents William J. and Irma C. Weiss Manning.

He is survived by his loving wife Lillian A. Sepudveda Manning; siblings James W. Manning of Neptune, Patricia M. Gerard of Point Pleasant, Judith C. Gibson of Sea Girt, and many nephews and neices, including the Honorable James W. Manning, Jr., Mayor of Neptune.

Relatives and friends were invited to gather at the funeral home on Monday morning at 8:30 a.m., and then Holy Innocents Church in Neptune for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m.

Interment was at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover.

Arrangements were made by McDonough Funeral Home in Manasquan.

Edward Roughley

Spring Lake resident Edward Roughley died Friday, Feb. 9.

He was 75 years old.

Born in Queens, NY, he graduated from St. John’s University, was a decorated U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean War, and he attended the Wharton School of Business. He was a municipal bond broker and dealer on Wall Street for over 40 years. He was a member of the N.Y. and N.J. Municipal Bond Club.

After retiring to Spring Lake in 1993, he was active in many volunteer services, including Meals on Wheels, a grade school program, and St. Catharine’s Social Services.

He is survived by his beloved wife Catherine of Spring Lake, a son Kevin Roughley and his wife Patrice of Maplewood; a daughter Sue Roughley of Fairfield, Conn.; a son Matt Roughley and his wife Jeanne of New Providence and three grandchildren, Dara, Erin and Maggie. He is also survived by his two sisters Ann and Barbara.

Visiting was yesterday, Wed. Feb. 14 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home in Wall. A mass will be offered today,. Feb. 15, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Margaret’s RC Church in Spring Lake. Committal will follow at the Brig. Gen. William C. Doyle Veterans cemetery in Arneytown.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in his name to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, c/o Brain Tumor Research, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942.

Daniel Edmund Finn

Sea Girt resident Daniel Edmund Finn, formerly of Spring Lake, died Sun., Feb. 11 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune.

He was 77 years old.

Born in New York City, Daniel lived in Greenwich Village and summered in Spring Lake from 1929 until 1959, when he moved to Spring Lake full time. He lived in Spring Lake until 2006 when he moved to Sea Girt. Daniel attended St. Margaret’s Elementary School in Spring Lake, and was a graduate from All Hallows High Schoo in New York City. He attended Notre Dame University, South Bend, Ind., where he graduated in 1951, then went to New York University School of Law where he earned his Juris Doctorate in 1959.

He served in the US Marine Corp. during the Korean War. Daniel worked as a lawyer for 45 years in New York City before retiring in 2000. Daniel was a member of the Notre Dame Boxing Team and a member of the “Bengal Bouts”, South Bend, Ind., a member of the Notre Dame Alumni Club, the Spring Lake Democratic Club, the US Chess Federation and the American Contract Bridge League.

He was also a member of the Atlantic Club, captain of the Ludlow Athletic Club, member of the Goodwill Fire Co. in Spring Lake, and the St. Catharine’s Holy Name Society. Daniel was Chair of the Spring Lake Planning Board from 1996 to 2006, a coach of Spring Lake/Sea Girt Little League and could always be seen sitting on his front porch reading.

He had a tremendous affection for Spring Lake and all who lived there. He was known for his sense of humor and was a great story teller, who was very proud of his family and friends. He was also the proud grandson of “Battery” Dan Finn.

Dan was predeceased by his parents Daniel E. and Helen Finn.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years Elizabeth Stoye Finn; a son Daniel E. Finn Jr., and his wife Donna of Sea Girt; a daughter Kathleen Molyneaux and her husband George also of Sea Girt, and six grandchildren, Chelsea, Suzanne, and Sean Molyneaux, Shane. Kelli, and Dylan Finn.

He is also survived by his brother Martin Powers Finn of New York, two nephews Martin Finn Jr., and Christopher Kirby Finn and several cousins and friends.

Visiting was held Mon. Feb. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the O’Brien Funeral Home in Wall. A mass was offered Tues. Feb. 13 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Margaret’s RC Church in Spring Lake. Burial followed at St. Catharine’s cemetery in Sea Girt. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Tom Ferguson’s “Run for Tom”, 311 Washington Ave., Spring Lake, NJ 07762.

Patricia Ann Lyons

Belmar resident Patricia Ann Lyons died Monday, Feb. 12 at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

She was 65 years old.

Born in Jersey City, she has lived in Belmar for more than 50 years.

Patricia graduated from St. Rose High School in 1959 and graduated from St. Francis School of Nursing. She worked as a case manager and registered nurse at Jersey Shore University Medical Center for 30 years. She was a member and communicant at St. Rose Church and a member of the Altar Rosary Society.

She also belonged to the Belmar Fishing Club and Belmar Women’s Club. She loved to spend time with ther dear friends at the Belmar Fishing Club, including Katherine Kirby and her sister-in-law Elizabeth Lyons.

Mrs. Lyons was predeceased by her husband Donald P. in 1996.

Surviving are her sons Jeffrey and his wife Kelly J. Andrews of Wynnewood, Pa., Donald J. and his wife Karen of South Brunswick; two brothers John Burke and his wife Sue of Chapel Hill, N.C., Nicholas and his wife Judith of Ewing Township; sister Mary E. Dunn and her husband Frank of Belmar, and two grandchildren, Jessica Mary Lyons and Juliette Galer Lyons.

Visitation is today, Feb. 15 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Reilly Funeral Home on 801 D St. in Belmar.

Relatives and friends will gather at the funeral home on Friday at 9:30 a.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Rose Church at 10:30 a.m.

Interment is at St. Anne’s cemetery in Wall Township.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, 2550 U.S. Highway 1, North Brunswick, NJ 08902.

Barry C. Harris

Ft. Myers, Fla. resident Barry C. Harris, formerly of Manasquan, died in Florida after an eleven month battle with cancer.

He was 66 years old.

Mr. Harris was a Jersey shore resident for most of his life, having lived in Manasquan before moving to Florida in 2003.

He was an ASARCO Incorporated employee for over thirty years , having served as President of Bridgeview Management Company where he managed over 15 properties for ASARCO and its subsidiaries in nine states. He had also held post of Director of Environmental Services and was responsible for the negotiations with State and Federal agencies and the execution of environmental remediation plans. He also served as Personnel Director, Safety Director and Plant Manager.

Mr. Harris served with the 253rd Light Transportation Company of the NJNG and attended the Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He also served a term on the Wall Township Board of Education and had participated in various professional organizations as the American Society of Safety Engineers, American Industrial Hygiene Society, NJ State Fire College, Mid State Personnel Association and the Central Jersey Security Officers Association.

Mr. Harris was an avid fisherman and licensed captain and was active with his children in their pursuits of music, sports, scouting and sailing.

Surviving are his wife Dolores; two sons, Kevin Harris of Point Pleasant, and Brian Harris of Brick Township; daughter Laura Bedle of Point Pleasant; four step-children Michael, Mitchell and Matthew McKiever and Jennifer Hoey; a brother Arthur “Bud” Harris of Middletown; sister Jan Baldwin of Venice, Fla. and first wife Jayne Harris of Wall Township; Sister-in-law Joyce Ernst of Toms River; two grandchildren Ryan and Nichole Bedle and 10 step grandchildren.

He will be missed by all. A memorial service will be announced at a later date.

John Shikoluk

Brick resident John Shikoluk died on Tuesday, Feb. 13 comfortably at home surrounded by his family. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he lived in Manasquan before moving to Brick 54 years ago.

He was 88 years old.

Mr. Shikoluk was a veteran of the United States Army serving during WW II. He was a member of the 29th Infantry Division and was in the battle of Normandie France on June 6, 1944, landing on Omaha Beach.

He was a beautician and operated a beauty salon in Asbury Park until 1967. He then operated the Duchess and Princess Beauty Salon in Brielle for 37 years.

Upon his retirement, he worked for the housekeeping department at Point Pleasant and Brick hospitals. Most recently, he was a greeter at T.G.I. Friday’s in Brick.

Mr. Shikoluk was a member of Manasquan Presbyterian Church, the Brick Junior Sports League, and the VFW.

He met his wife, Betty Munday Shikoluk, in England and they were married there in 1944.

He is also survived by several children and their spouses, John Sheldon and Janet Shikoluk of Toms River, Marcene Rose Reiser of Point Pleasant, Jeffrey Reginald and Sue Shikoluk of Woodstock, Conn., and Lisa Lee and William Pett of Brick; grandchildren Vanessa Lee Reiser Williams, Ian Lawrence Reiser, Kevin John Shikoluk, Michael Jeffrey Shikoluk, Carlee Marcene Pett, and Jonathan Robert Pett; and step-grandchildren MAtthew Bly and Alex Bly.

A funeral service was held Tuesday at 11 at the Manasquan First Presbyterian Church.

Interment will follow at the New Jersey Veterans cemetery in Arneytown.

Visiting was Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Neary-Quinn Funeral Home in Manasquan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Building Fund of the Manasquan First Presbyterian Church, 16 Ave., Manasquan, NJ 08736.

Elizabeth A. ‘Betty’ Woolley Longo

Wall Township resident Elizabeth A. “Betty” Woolley Longo passed away Wed., Feb. 7 at Care One at Wall.

She was 70 years old.

A lifelong resident of the Jersey Shore, she was raised in Ocean Township and resided in Wall Township for over 50 years. She attended Asbury Park High School and was employed by NJ Bell Telephone Company in Asbury Park and Red Bank.

She also drove a school bus for the Montessori Academy in Neptune, and from 1970 until retirement, assisted her husband and son with the family business, Longo Tree Service.

A beautiful woman who possessed the gift of a green thumb, Mrs. Longo enjoyed gardening, loved roses, and enjoyed boating and crabbing.

In her own quiet way, with her warm smile, she had the ability to touch your heart and leave a lasting impression.

She was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, James V. Longo in 2002, her father George Woolley, and a brother Sidney Woolley.

Mrs. Longo is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, James V. and Anne Longo of Brick; her mother, Gladys Woolley of Spring Hill, Fla.; brother and sister-in-law, George and Marybeth Woolley of Manasquan; sister Gloria Basile of Spring Hill, Fla.; sisters-in-law Anna Benham of Upland, Calif., and Catherine and Wallace Wall of Albany, N.Y.; dear friend Helen Camoosa of Ocean Township, and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends were invited to call Friday, Feb. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Orender Family Home for Funerals in Manasquan. A funeral service was offered Sat., Feb. 10 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by entombment in Monmouth Park in Tinton Falls.
