Grace K. Venturi

Grace K. Venturi, 79, of East Hanover died Jan. 3 at home.

Mrs. Venturi was an assembler at the Ace Button Manufacturing Co. in Newark for about 10 years.

Born in Newark, she lived in Irvington, Union and Toms River before moving to East Hanover last year.

Surviving are daughters, Geri Campolattaro, Vita Lynn Stohler and Lorry Lynch; and three grandchildren.

Victor C. Galante

Victor C. Galante, 90, of Wall died Jan. 1 in the Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, was an engineer for the Wilbur B. Driver Co. in Newark for 40 years before retiring in 1979.

Born in Newark, he lived in Brick and Irvington before moving to Wall four years ago.

Surviving are sons, Edward L. and David; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Norman Schwartz

Norman Schwartz, 84, of South Orange died Dec. 30 in Morristown Memorial Hospital. He was a vice president with Smith Barney in New York City before retiring in 1995.

Mr. Schwartz served in Patton’s Third Army 120th Evacuation Hospital, which liberated the Buchenwald concentration camp during World War II.

He was active in the Holocaust Memorial Committee, South Orange and Maplewood.

He was an arbitrator for the National Association of Security Dealers and the New York Stock Exchange since 1995. Mr. Schwartz was a member of Maplewood Country Club.

Born in the Bronx, he lived in New York City before moving to South Orange. Surviving are his wife, Helene; sons, David, Bruce, John and Mark; a brother, Robert; and four grandchildren.

Matthew Huckman

Matthew Jay Huckman, 68, of Springfield died Dec. 29 at home. He was an executive housing manager for the New York City Housing Authority for 25 years before retiring in 1992. He graduated from Columbia University in New York City in 1959 with a B.A. in history.

Mr. Huckman was a member of the Teamsters Local 237 Retirees Union, New York City.

Born in Newark, he lived in Maplewood for many years before moving to Springfield 15 years ago.

Surviving is a sister, Muriel Walter.

Gerald Pecorelli

Gerald A. Pecorelli Jr., 75, of Maplewood died Dec. 30 at home. He worked for Teamsters Local 641 for 30 years. Later, he was a crossing guard and parking enforcement officer for the Township of Maplewood for 18 years before retiring in 2005.

Mr. Pecorelli served in the Army during the Korean War.

Born in Jersey City, he lived in Maplewood for 27 years.

Surviving are his wife, MaryAnn; a daughter, Jennifer Noesner; a son, Joseph Piacenza; a brother, Carmine; and a grandchild.

Carrie Johansson

Carrieanne Johansson, 26, of Haledon and Gillette died Dec. 28 in Overlook Hospital, Summit. She was an assessor for the Somerset Handicapped Childrens Treatment Center, Bridgewater. She was also a bartender at the Chimney Rock Inn, Gillette.

She was a counselor at Kare House, Kearny, and a dancer for 12 years at the Betty White Dance Studio, Maplewood.

Ms. Johansson received her bachelors degree in psychology from the University of Tampa.

While at the University of Tampa, she participated in a study-abroad program at Griffin University in Australia.

In 2004, she received a masters degree in social work from Monmouth University.

Born in Orange, she lived in South Orange before moving to Haledon and Gillette.

Surviving are her mother, Deborah Johansson-Schubert; her father, Timothy Johansson; a sister, Melody; her grandfather, Joseph Gessner; and her stepfather, Joseph Schubert; and her stepmother, Diane Johansson.

Sylvia Weiner

Sylvia Weiner, 83, of Hillsborough, formerly of Springfield, a 1930s band singer, died Dec. 29 in the Haborside, Bridgewater.

Born in Newark, Mrs. Weiner lived in Springfield for more than 40 years and in Lakewood and Boca Raton, Fla., before moving to Hillsborough last year. She performed with the Harry James Band in the late 1930s.

Surviving are two sons, Gary and Mitchell; a brother, Samuel Coleman; a sister, Dorothy Saffer, and a grandchild.

Alfred Harter

Alfred F. Harter, 82, of Mountainside died Jan. 3 in the Fellowship Village, Basking Ridge.

Born in Wuppertal, Germany, Mr. Harter came to the United States as a child and lived in Newark before moving to Mountainside in 1965. He was a chemical engineer and the vice president of engineering at the GAF Corp. in Linden and Wayne before retiring in 1983. Mr. Harter was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the American Chemical Society. He was a member of the Masons and a representative for the American Association of Retired Persons, Mountainside chapter.

Surviving are a son, Peter; a daughter, Nancy, and his companion, Anne Schell.

Nicholas Mastro

Nicholas J. Mastro, 77, of Huffman, Texas, formerly of Summit, died Jan. 3 in Kingwood Medical Center, Kingwood, Texas.

Born in Derby, Conn., Mr. Mastro lived in Summit and Basking Ridge for 28 years before moving to Huffman six months ago. He was a technician at N.J. American Water Co., Short Hills, for 35 years before retiring in 1991. Mr. Mastro was a Navy veteran and served until November 1946. He was a member of the American Legion in Stirling. Mr. Mastro also belonged to the Stirling Elks, the Italian-American Club in Summit and the National Rifle Association.

Surviving are his wife, Josephine; a daughter, Janice Redmond; a son, Anthony J. Tiano; a sister, Angelina Del Mastro; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Theresa Conroy

Theresa B. Conroy, 98, of Summit died Jan. 6 in the Glenside Nursing Home, New Providence.

Born in Leitrim, Ireland, Mrs. Conroy lived in Summit for many years. She was a pediatric nurse at Babies Hospital, New York City, before retiring. Mrs. Conroy graduated from Babies Hospital in 1926, where she received a degree as a registered nurse.

She was a member of the St. Teresa of Avila Church Rosary Club, the 60-Plus Club at St. Teresa Church and the Senior Citizens Club at the Senior Citizens House, all of Summit. Mrs. Conroy also was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Elizabeth Ruppert and Therese Zotti; a son, Michael; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Donna Marie Santiago

Donna Marie Santiago, 51, of Springfield died Jan. 6 in Overlook Hospital, Summit.

Born in Miami Beach, Fla., Mrs. Santiago lived in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., for 16 years before moving to Springfield last year. She was a waitress in Pumpernick’s Restaurant, Miami Beach, for one year.

Surviving are a son, Anthony Luzba Jr.; her mother, Lorraine Dowling; a brother, Robert Dowling; two sisters, Deborah Del Viscovo and Lorraine Rotonda, and three grandchildren.

Edward Wade Jr.

Edward H. Wade Jr., 77, of Springfield died Jan. 6 in the Atlantic Home Care and Hospice, Morristown.

Born in Morristown, Mr. Wade lived in MIllburn for 68 years before moving to Springfield nine years ago. He was a custodian for the South Orange-Maplewood Board of Education for 40 years before retiring. After retiring, Mr. Wade worked as a crossing guard for Millburn Township from 1994 until 2000. He was an usher at St. Rose of Lima Church, Short Hills, for 40 years and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 6386 of Short Hills.

Surviving are his wife, Ann; a son, Edward H. III; a daughter, Elizabeth W. Cort; a brother, David; a sister, Carol Wade, and five grandchildren.

Mary Snelling

Mary Snelling, 87, of Union died Feb. 16 in the South Mountain Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Union.

Mrs. Snelling was a seamstress at Cooper’s Coat Factory in Newark for 10 years before retiring.

She sang in the choir at St. Mark’s Church, East Orange, and was a member of the National Council of Negro Women and of Caring and Sharing, both in Newark.

Born in Upatoi, Ga., Mrs. Snelling lived in Newark before moving to Union last year.

Surviving are a daughter, Dolores Armstrong; a sister, Viola Joseph; a brother, Oscar; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.

Lucille Carollo

Lucille M. Carollo, 87, of Toms River died Feb. 18 in Bey Lea Village Nursing Home, Toms River.

Mrs. Carollo worked for Ward’s Baking Company, East Orange, for 25 years, retiring in 1980.

Born in Jersey City, Mrs. Carollo lived in Newark and Bloomfield before moving to Toms River in 1995.

Surviving are a son, Nicholas; and daughters, Catherine Carollo and Karen Glass.

Rose Iamundo

Rose Iamundo, 98, of Millburn died Feb. 21 at home.

Mrs. Iamundo was an assembler at Tung-Sol Industries in Newark for 30 years before retiring in 1972.

Born in Paterson, she lived in East Orange and moved to Millburn 46 years ago.

Surviving are a daughter, Nancy; sons, Leonard A. and Arthur J.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Colin Mingo

Colin K. Mingo, 43, of Newark died Feb. 17 in Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston.

Born in Guyana, Mr. Mingo came to the United States in 1977 and lived in East Orange before moving to Newark.

Surviving are his parents, Stella and Newton; a son, Ronald; sisters, Rita Eccles, Denise Duguid, Peggy Thomas, Roxanne Lawrence, Carlotta Mingo, Umbalita Mingo, Nicola Hampson and Faith Walters, and brothers, Orlando, Gary and Terrence.
