ALKAZIN, BARBARA M., 71, of Atlantic City, died suddenly on July 29, 2003 at her home in Jeffries Towers Apartments.
Born and raised in Atlantic City, she attended the local school system. Ms. Alkazin was the daughter of the late William and Mary (nee Jameson) Alkazin. During her working career, Ms. Alkazin had been employed in the housekeeping departments of Resorts and Tropicana Hotel/ Casinos, and also a salesperson with Fralinger's Salt Water Taffy.
She enjoyed attending and participating in the CARING Inc. program in Jeffries Tower. Visiting the various casinos was another of the things she most enjoyed.
Ms. Alkazin is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Alkazin of Labelle FL.; sisters, Theresa Morgan LaRocca and husband Frank of Atlantic City, Sr. Mary Raymond and Sr. Mary Loretta, Sisters of Mercy in Plainfield, Rita Peters and family of OH and Sue Egony and husband Kjeld of Ft. Meyers, FL, her brother William Alkazin and wife Betty of Blue Anchor, nephews David Morgan aka D.D. Lewis and James Morgan, all of Atlantic City, nephew Mathew Saltzman and niece Deborah Saltzman and grand nephew Matthew Saltzman of Ft. Meyers, FL, and many other nieces and nephews, friends at CARING and especially Linda of CARING.
Services are private and at the convenience of her family. Arrangements by the GORMLEY FUNERAL HOME 2706 Atlantic Avenue, Atlantic City.

MAIMONE, ANGELINA (D'Agostino), 86, of Hammonton, died Sunday, August 3, 2003 at her residence. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she lived in Hammonton since 1932. Wife of the late John A. Surviving are: daughter, Karoll Pinto and her husband Gino; her son, Angelo "Buddy" Maimone, all of Hammonton; one brother, Joseph D'Agostino and four sisters, Marie Hedrick, Margaret Balick, Jay McNutt, and Jean Banazak, all of Wilmington, DE. Loving grandmother of six, David and Darren Maimone, Michaelangelo, John, and Maria Pinto, and Deanna Falcone. Great grandmother of eight. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her viewing Thursday after 9:00 a.m. at the Marinella Funeral Home, 102 N. 3rd St., Hammonton. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 a.m. St. Martin de Porres Church, S. Egg Harbor Rd., Hammonton. Burial Greenmount cemetery. Donations may be sent to: American Cancer Society, 625 N. LAMBERT, JR., ROBERT DALE, 45, of Marathon, FL, formerly of Millville, died Friday in Marathon Manor Nursing Home. Funeral services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Christy Funeral Home, 11 W. Broad Street, Millville with a viewing before the service. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant cemetery, Millville.

McCRARY, GRACE, 84, of Atlantic City, died on Friday, August 1, 2003 in the Atlantic City Medical Center, Mainland Division.
Mrs. McCrary was born in Ashland County, GA and had been a resident of Atlantic City since 1946. She was a member of Allen AME Church where she served as Deaconess.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Ralph Allen McCrary.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and will be sadly missed.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Jesse Freeman, Sr. and his wife, Ruby and Jenice C. McCrary; five sisters, Ruby Freeman, Lois Reese, Nellie B. Martin, Louise Thompson and Elvira Martin; her grandchildren, Darrell James, Robin Bland and her husband, George Bland, Sr., Lisa Alvarez and her husband, Pedro, Jesse Freeman, Jr., Jana Evans, Anna Ruth Jackson and Joann Russell; her great grandchildren, George Bland, Jr., Carlos Alvarez, Carlean Jackson, and Roseanna Jackson; also other relatives and friends.
Services will be held 11AM Saturday, August 9, 2003, in the Greenidge Funeral Home, 301 Absecon Blvd., Atlantic City, where friends may call from 10AM. Burial in Atlantic County Veteran's cemetery, Estell Manor.

BALLINGER, PHD, DR. REX E., 89, of Cape May, died on Saturday, August 2, 2003 at North Cape Center. He was born in Walnut Grove, Missouri, where he was a college professor. He moved to Cape May in the 1960's where he opened an antique shop in the 1980's. He was discharged in 1952 as a Major in the U.S. Army. He was the author of several children's books in Spanish. Surviving are two nieces, Dorothy Bogosian of Claremont, CA and Rebecca Kellihan of Springfield, MO. Service and Interment are private. Evoy Funeral Home.

LYON, SR., FRANK WM., "BUD" 65, of Galloway, passed away Sunday, August 3, 2003 at home with his family.
Born in Pinewald, to Hanna Riley and William R. Lyon on December 15, 1937, he relocated to Galloway in 1968.
He was a veteran, having served with the U.S. Army. He was a member of the Absecon VFW Post #9462 as the House Committee Chairman. He was also a member of the Absecon American Legion.
Frank had worked for the State of New Jersey Buoy Tender the Transit Three, where he served as First Mate. Frank worked for Scotty's Radiator for over 20 years, then retired from the City of Pleasantville after 15 years as a mechanic.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years Dianne Lyon; daughter, Dawn E. Townsel; sons, Frank W. Lyon II, Douglas M. Lyon; grandchildren, Alene E. Berrios, Nicholas W. Lyon, Thomas M. Lyon, all of Galloway; sister, Noyla Casagrand and many nieces and nephews.
Service will be held at Lowenstein Funeral Home, 58 South Route 9, Smithville of Galloway Township (609-652-8330) on Thursday, August 7, 2003 at 8:00 p.m.. Viewing will be at 5:00 p.m. until time of service. Interment will be private.

HUMMEL, JR., EARL E., "Bud", the longtime owner of Hummel's Liquor Store and New Agency in Bridgeton died early Monday morning August 4, 2003 at The Lutheran Home in Ocean View. He had been a longtime resident of Bridgeton and was 83.
The husband of Doris Mickel Hummel, who died in 1999, he was born in Bridgeton and was the son late Earl E. and Gladys (nee Bauer) Hummel. He resided on Vickers Avenue in Bridgeton for several years and had lived at Spring Oaks assisted living facility in Vineland for three years prior to the nursing home.
Mr. Hummel was a 1937 graduate of Bridgeton High School where he excelled as a varsity football and basketball player. He was his high school class treasurer. He continued to play basketball in a South Jersey Traveling league well into the 1950's.
He joined his father in business in the early 1940's. It was then called the South Jersey New Agency and was located at 14 S. Laurel Street in Bridgeton. In 1968 he purchased the liquor store at 54 S. Laurel Street and began operating as Hummel's Liquor Store and News Agency. He eventually added a deli, video store and sports room. He retired, but was always around to help in any way possible. Mr. Hummel was a self taught carpenter and each time the store was renovated he played a large role in the construction. There was not much he could not build.
Mr. Hummel was active in the community and was an original founder of the Bridgeton Little League in the early 1950's. He served as a manager and coach for several years. A member of Brearley Lodge#2, F. & A.M. of Bridgton Exchange Club and the Deerfield (formerly Bridgeton) Elks Lodge. He was also an original member of the "13" Club.
Predeceased by his wife of nearly 60 years, he is survived by one son, Barry L. Hummel and his wife Geri of Upper Deerfield Township, one daughter, Carole S. Hummel of Ocean City, three grandchildren, Dr. Barry L. Hummel Jr. and his wife Dr Darby of Glendale, CA, Sandra Corson and her husband Irv of Hopewell Twp. and Derek Hummel Sr., and his wife Karen of Bridgeton and five great grandchildren, Irving Corson IV, Derek Hummel Jr., Brooke, Abigail and Zachary Hummel.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning August 6th at 11 o'clock at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton.
Rev. Dr. Thomas Tomlinson of The Lutheran Home of Ocean View will officiate. The interment will be made at Overlook cemetery in Bridgeton.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday morning one hour prior to the services.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1060 N. Kings Highway, Cherry Hill, N.J. 08034 or to the American Heart Association, 2250 Rt. 1, New Brunswick, N.J. 08902.

SHENKMAN, LENA, of Palm Beach, Florida, died August 9, 2003. She was a prominent N.J. realtor who, along with her husband and partner Morris, founded Shenkman Realty, a dominant company in the Atlantic County market, which operated for four decades in Margate. She was a distinguished member of the Atlantic County Board of Realtors and contributed to many local charities.
Because of health problems, she and her husband retired from the business in the 1980's spending their winters in Florida and summers in Margate sitting on her porch that she loved so much.
Born in Atlantic City, she was a graduate of Atlantic City High School and a life long resident of the Atlantic City area. married over 50 years before her husband "Moe" died in 1994, she was the matriarch of her family. Affectionately known as Lee or Ena, she loved, nurtured and treasured her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was a guiding light and a role model to all who knew her, solving problems and listening to others who needed her help. As a woman in business, she was far ahead of her time creating a path for others to follow.
In 1996, she was diagnosed with kidney disease and for seven courageous years she endured the dialysis treatment. She was determined to be there for her family until her death. Lena Shenkman is the loving mother of the Honorable Joyce (Dr. Herbert) Kean, Paul (Julie) Shenkman, and Beth (Mark) Schieble. Grandmother of Dr. Nancy (Dr. John) Kenyon, Jon Mozenter, Gregory (Heidi) Shenkman, Jennifer Shenkman, Sammy Shenkman and Max Schieble, Esq. Great grandmother Jacob Munic. Family and friends are invited to graveside services Rodef Shalom, Egg Harbor Twp. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Wistar Institute, 3601 Spruce Street, Phila., PA 19104 or The National Kidney Foundation, 325 Chestnut Street, Suite 725, Phila., PA 19106.

DEANE, ADELAIDE A., 88, of Atlantic City, passed away quietly in the Atlantic City Medical Center on Saturday afternoon.
Born in Atlantic City, she was the first woman in city history to hold the office of City Clerk of The City of Atlantic City, a post which she proudly held from 1965 until her retirement in 1985. Mrs. Deane's career in City Hall spanned over 35 years and during her tenure as Clerk she held the position of Acting Mayor of the City of Atlantic City more than five times.
Mrs. Deane was the Past-President of the Municipal Clerks Association of Atlantic County and the Past-President of the Auxiliary of the 2nd Ward Republican Club.
She is the widow of Mr. Paul Deane, who passed away in 1960 and is also predeceased by her parents John J. and Adelaide Carey; two sisters, Doris Lafferty and Patricia Clark; five brothers, John J., Richard, James, William and Robert Carey.
Surviving are: her sister, Kathleen Ryan of Northfield; three sisters-in-law, Virginia Carey of Falls Church, VA, Dorothy Carey of Springfield, PA, Lillian Carey of Philadelphia; along with over thirty nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m., Thursday, August 14, 2003 in the Our Lady Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, California and Atlantic Avenues, Atlantic City, where friends may call for viewing one hour before Mass time. Following the Mass, friends and relatives are invited to attend the burial in Holy Name cemetery, Jersey City.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Deane's memory would be appreciated and should be made to: The Wills Eye Hospital Glaucoma Service Foundation, 840 Walnut St., #1130, Philadelphia, PA 19107-5598 or to a worthy charity of one's choice.

HANCOCK, FRANCIS DE-HAVEN, 82, of Jersey City, was born to the late Frank Hancock and Hattie De-Haven on June 2, 1921 in Charleston, WV. He departed this life on July 31, 2003 at ACMC in Pomona. "F.D." was he was affectionately called, served in the Marine Corps in the Korean War. "F.D." worked for Owens Illinois Glass Industry as a glass operator for many, many years and finally retired in 1987.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2003, at Serenity Funeral Home, Inc., 414 South Main Street, Pleasantville at 1:00 p.m., where family and friends may view from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service. Ph: 609-383-9993.
Interment: Atlantic City cemetery, Pleasantville.

DRUMMOND, GEORGE R., 63, of Cape May Court House, died on Saturday, August 9, 2003 at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital. Born in Wildwood to the late George R. and Gladys (Curvan) Drummond, Sr., he was a lifetime resident of this area. He was employed by Gerald A. Barrett, Inc. for 35 years. He enjoyed restoring old cars and building.
Mr. Drummond is survived by his wife of 34 years, Doris Drummond of Cape May Court House; his three children, Angel Montgomery and her husband, Don, Carol Hess of Erma, and Karl Hess of Cape May Court House; 14 grandchildren, three great grandchildren, his sister, Georgia Johnson of Portland, OR; his sister-in-law, Rebecca Lee of Villas; and his niece and nephew.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 13, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, where relatives and friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Interment will be Green Creek Methodist cemetery.

BATTLES, GEORGE S. 73 - of Leeds Point (Galloway) passed away on August 16, 2003. He lived in the area all of his adult life. He was born in Philadelphia, PA and grew up in Pennsgrove, NJ. Mr. Battles retired from Atlantic Concrete formerly known as Vineland Transit Mix. He was a member of Teamsters Local 331, Oceanville Volunteer Fire Company, Retreads and Goldwing Motorcycle Clubs. He is predeceased by his father George S. Battles Sr., mother Bernadine and sister Carol. Survived by his wife Joan Battles of 17 years and 4 step children, D. Michael Reeves and wife Francine, Karen E. Martyn and husband Francis, Diane C. Hemling and husband William, Stephen C. Reeves and wife Chantal. Nine grandchildren, three nieces, one nephew and George's brother, Lynn Battles and his wife Helen. Memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at 8:00 PM at Lowenstein Funeral Home, 58 South Route 9, Smithville of Galloway Twp. (609)652-8330, where friends and family may call from 6:30 PM until time of service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Oceanville Volunteer Fire Company.

PACKMAN, ALBERT, 76 - of Margate, passed away on August 15, 2003. He was the devoted husband for 54 years of Barbara and he was predeceased by his son Craig. He was the loving father of Douglas and Ellen (Kenny) Hudson and the beloved grandfather of Alex, Ross, and Corbin. Al was a life long resident who in his younger years was active in his family's business, Packman Bros., and he later spent 20 years as a successful boardwalk merchant. During his last 15 years, he operated the Maritime Tavern. He was proud to be a mason and was past-Master of Justice Lodge #285 F& AM. His passion for fishing was second only to that for his family. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2003 at 12:30 p.m. at Beth Kehillah cemetery in Cardiff. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the charity of choice. Arrangements by Roth-Goldstein's Memorial Chapel, Atlantic City.

OESTERLE, ROBERT A., 22 - of Villas, died suddenly in Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, Baltimore, MD.
Mr. Oesterle was born in Edison, and has been a resident here for six years.
Bobby was recently working for Amtrak in the Baltimore area.
He graduated from Delta Trade & Technical School in Baltimore, as a certified welder.
His love was the ocean. He also enjoyed fishing.
Bobby is survived by his mother & step father, Lynn and Anthony Canesso of Villas; his father, Raymond Oesterle, of Baltimore; his maternal grandparents, Marie and Robert Dallery of North Cape May; his paternal grandparents, Harriet and Frank Oesterle of Toms River; aunts, Sharon & Rick Shurgalla of San Bernadino, CA and Judy & Jeff Pace of Metuchen; several nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
Burial office and Requiem Eucharist will be celebrated Friday at 12 noon in the (Episcopal) Church of The Advent, corner of Washington & Franklin Sts., Cape May. Relatives and friends may call at the church from 11:30 to noon on Friday. Burial will be private.
