Michael, Jean J.

Jean J. Michael, 79, of Woodbine, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2011 at her home. Born in Millville to the late William and Bertha (Kosher) Fitzick, she was a lifetime resident of Woodbine. She was a member of Abundant Life Assembly of God Church. She had a passion for reading and enjoyed watching the Phillies. She especially liked caring for her grandchildren.

Mrs. Michael is survived by her daughters, Karen A. Raffaele of Dennisville, and Linda A. Michael of Cape May Court House; and her grandchildren, Nicole, Samantha, Zachary, Victoria, and Olivia Raffaele. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter F. Michael on March 3, 2002 and her daughter Debra A. Michael on March 31, 2011.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 16, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Abundant Life Assembly of God Church, 44 Route 50, Seaville, where viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private in the Cape May County Veterans cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Deborah Hospital Foundation, 20 Pine Mill Road, Browns Mills, NJ 08015.

Shaw, Gideon S.
Army

Gideon S. Shaw, 82 of Clermont passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2011. Born to Gideon and Alma Shaw, he was a lifelong resident of Clermont. After serving in the U.S. Army during Korean War, he worked as a Corrections Officer at Leesburg State Prison. He was a member of the United Methodist Church of South Seaville. He was locally known for his craftsmanship with a particular passion for carving decoys. He also was a private pilot and a member of the Air Force Association, Experimental Aircraft Association, the Atlantic City Hangar of QB Quiet Birdmen, as well as a member of Crimestoppers.

Gideon is survived by his wife of 57 years, Pearl (formerly Peterson); his daughter Sheree Dever of Clermont; and grandchildren Michael Dever of Sea Isle and John Anthony Dever of Princeton.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 17, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 2373 Route 9, Ocean View, NJ 08230. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Calvary Baptist cemetery. Donations may be made in Gideon’s name to the United Methodist Church of South Seaville, P.O. Box 158, South Seaville, NJ 08246 and to Grace Healthcare Services, 105 Fieldcrest Avenue # 304, Edison, NJ 08837-3635.

DeSantis, Doris M.

DeSantis, Doris M., 86, of Cape May Court House passed away on June 9, 2011. Born in Philadelphia to William Avil, she later lived in Avalon before moving to Cape May Court House in 1987. She was a member of Our Lady of The Angels Church and was predeceased by her husband Anthony in 1989.

She is survived by her daughter Karen (Steven) Horney of Cape May Court House, her son Dominick (Sharon) DeSantis of Pennsylvania; her grandchildren: Thomas (Jennifer) Sullivan, Joseph (Catherine) Sullivan, and Anthony DeSantis; and great grandchildren Alyssa and Riley Sullivan as well as another on the way.

Funeral Mass will be on Tuesday, June 14, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of The Angels Church, Mechanic Street and Garden State Parkway, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210. Interment will be held at Cape May County Veterans cemetery. Donations may be made in Doris' name to the Alzheimer's Association, South Jersey Regional Office, 3 Eves Drive, Suite 310, Marlton, NJ 08053-3431.

Jay W. Giesecke

Born October 6, 1917 - died June 7, 2011

Jay, long time resident of Stone Harbor, NJ is survived by his wife Edna of 46 years. Three sons, Jon and wife Jeanette of Downingtown, PA; Jeff and wife Alice of Erial, NJ and Robert of Stone Harbor. Jay is predeceased by son William of Monument, CO. where his loving wife Kathy still resides. He will also be lovingly remembered by his five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

No formal services will be held by Pop's request. He celebrated life to the fullest and says good bye to all and thanks for the memories.

Sterling, Alan J.

Alan J. Sterling, 46, of Ocean City, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2011. Born in Philadelphia to Lawrence and the late Carol (Hughes) Sterling, he moved here over 20 years ago from Philadelphia. He was the owner of Sterling Construction.

Alan is survived by his father, Lawrence Sterling; his step mother, Cheryl Sterling; his daughter, Trinity Sterling and Trinity's mother, Theresa; his brothers and sisters, Lawrence Sterling, Jr, June Sterling, Francis Veith, Carol Anne Veith, Sean Babcock, and Kattie (Albert) Ortiz; and his uncle, John Hughes.

Funeral services will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, South Jersey Region, 1851 Old Cuthbert Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.

Pettit, Angelina "Angie"

Angelina "Angie" Pettit, 88, of Belleplain, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at her home. She was born in Belleplain to the late Frank and Virginia (Drago) Polise and was a lifetime resident here. She was a member of St. Casimir's Church in Woodbine and the VFW in Belleplain. She was formerly employed at the Woodbine Day Care Center. She loved to cook and to travel, especially to Florida to see her brother.

Mrs. Pettit is survived by her children, Jimmy (Lori) Pettit, Virginia (Richard) Tweed, Joseph (Georgeann) Pettit, Carles (Karen) Pettit, and Alfred (Lisa) Pettit; her sisters, Mary Kone and Teresa Shone; her brother, Jimmy Polise; 19 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Pettit on June 10, 1979.

Funeral Mass will be said on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church, 304 Clay Street, Woodbine. Viewings will be held on Wednesday, June 8 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House and on Thursday, June 9 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church. Interment will be in St. Elizabeth's cemetery, Goshen. Memorial donations may be made to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 1801 Route 9 North, Swainton, NJ 08210.

Stinson, III, Thomas Francis

Thomas Francis Stinson III, 49, of Villas, NJ, formerly of Philadelphia, PA, passed away on Friday, June 3, 2011 at his home. He was born in Philadelphia and moved here three years ago. A 1979 graduate of Frankford High School, he learned the trade of a concrete mason while working for many local companies and ended up starting his own business, Concrete and Steel. He formerly was employed by the City of Philadelphia Bench Warrant Enforcement Unit as a warrant officer.

Tom was a lifetime member of the Tacony Club and enjoyed going to social gatherings at many fraternal organizations. He loved animals and gardening, especially his flowers. He enjoyed going fishing with his nephew, hunting and boating. He just received his disabled hunters license for bow hunting and his boaters license.

Tom is survived by his mother, Kathryn (nee Smedley) Stinson; his sisters, Darlene Buddendorf and Kathy-Lynn Stinson; his nephew, Chase Buddendorf; his daughter, Shewna; his grandmother, Frieda Stinson; and his aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Francis Stinson, Jr.; and his sister, Cheryl-Lynn Stinson.

Funeral Mass will be said on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Parish of St. John Neumann at St. Raymond's Nonatus, Bayshore Road, Villas, where viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be private. Memorial donations may be made to RSD Hope, P.O. Box 875, Harrison, ME 04040 or the Cape May County Animal Shelter, DN 501B, 4 Moore Road, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.

Hutchinson, Donald Charles

Donald Charles Hutchinson, of Stone Harbor, New Jersey and Juno Beach, Florida died June 1, 2011 at his home in Stone Harbor after a year-long battle with cancer. He was 76.

Don was born September 26, 1934, in Camden, New Jersey to Charles and Ruth Hutchinson. Don graduated from Merchantville High School where he starred in football and baseball. He attended Western Maryland College, on a football scholarship, and Rutgers University. It was at Western Maryland College that he first met Joan, his beloved wife, of 57 years.

Don was employed at New Jersey Bell Telephone for 20 years. It was during this time, after a promotion to the Branch Manager of the Wildwood Business Office, that Don moved his family from Pennsauken, NJ to Stone Harbor in 1963. After taking an early retirement from New Jersey Bell Telephone in 1979, Don was named Vice President of First National Bank of Stone Harbor. His tenure in various banking positions lasted over 10 years. Don finally retired in 2000 after 15 years of service as an administrator for the Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority.

Don served as a volunteer coach and referee in the Stone Harbor Fire Lions football program. He was an original member and Chairman of the Stone Harbor Planning Board, served on the Board of Directors of the Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital, and a past member of the Wildwood Rotary Club. He was an active member of the Stone Harbor Yacht Club and attended the Lutheran Church of Stone Harbor.

Don loved the beaches of both Stone Harbor and Juno Beach where he enjoyed spending his days reading, swimming, biking and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Don enjoyed playing golf and was a member of the Stone Harbor Golf Club and the EPGASH men's group.

Don is survived by his wife, Joan, sister Joan McDermott (Peter), one daughter, Mary Priggemeier (David) of Cape May Court House, three sons, Robert (Robin) of Yardley, PA, John (Diane) of Crofton, Maryland, and Tom (Lynn) of Woolford, Maryland, and eight grandchildren, Sarah, Lauren, Andrew, Rachel, Ryan, Brian, Brendan, and Helen.

The family wished to express their thanks and gratitude to their friends for their concern, prayers and support during his illness.

Services will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Our Saviour Lutheran Church of Stone Harbor, 93rd and Third Avenue, Stone Harbor, New Jersey at 11:00 AM where visitation will begin at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers the family request that donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, South Jersey Region, 1851 Old Cuthbert Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034 or the Love of Linda Cancer Fund at PO Box 1053, Wildwood, NJ 08260.

Morrell, Margaret H.

Margaret H. Morrell, age 68, of Goshen, NJ, died on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at her home. She was born in South Dennis, NJ the daughter of the late Edward and Charlotte James Champion, Sr. and was a lifetime county resident.

She was a member of the Immanuel Baptist Church of Goshen. After twenty two years of service, she retired from the custodial department of the Middle Township School System.

Margaret loved working in her flower garden and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband, John F.; three daughters: Connie Kroll (Frank) of Houston, TX, Tammy Levine of Cape May Court House, and Carole McCarraher (Joe) of Villas; a brother, Edward Champion, Jr. (Ginny) of Woodbine; a sister, Alice Flash of South Dennis; a step sister, Louise Carmen of Belleplain; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Noon to 2 p.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, NJ with services at 2 p.m. Interment will be in the Goshen United Methodist cemetery.

Wynne, Anna H.

Anna H. Wynne, 91, of Cape May Court House, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at her home. She was born in the Holmesburg section of Philadelphia to the late Lawrence and Helen (Trumbauer) Jacobs and moved here 29 years ago from Vermont. She was a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church and the Villas Fishing Club. She enjoyed crossword puzzles and dancing and loved life.

Mrs. Wynne is survived by her husband Thomas J. Wynne and his children, Thomas J. Wynne, Jr., Susan Ware, Stephen Wynne, and Debbie Wynne; her niece, Joyce McCaffrey; and her nephew, Edward McCaffrey. She was preceded in death by her first husband, George Lynch and her brother, Mahlon Jacobs.

Funeral Mass will be said on Tuesday, May 31, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 35 East Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House, where viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre cemetery, Philadelphia, PA at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in memory of Anna.

Ernest, James P.
Air Force

James P. Ernest, 66, of Rio Grande, passed away on Monday, May 23, 2011. He was born in New Brunswick and moved here in 1989 from North Plainfield. He was a member of the Seashore Church of the Nazarene. An Air Force Veteran of the Vietnam War, he was also a member of the American Legion Post 184 of Wildwood, Disabled American Veterans in Villas, the VFW, and the Loyal Order of Moose in North Wildwood. He taught photography and computers at the Cape May County Technical High School.

Mr. Ernest is survived by his mother, Irene Ernest; and his brother, Gary Ernest.

Funeral services will be announced at a later date.

Nagel, Nora

Nora Nagel, 94, of Avalon Manor, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2011. She was born in Scotland to the late Patrick and Elizabeth (Price) O'Shea and moved here 24 years ago from Upper Marlboro, MD.

Mrs. Nagel is survived by her nephew and niece, Brian and Sylvia O'Shea. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Nagel on January 11, 2011.

Funeral Mass will be said on Saturday, June 11, 2011 at 12:00 p.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 35 East Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans cemetery.

Carlson, Mark Douglass

Mark Douglass Carlson, 37, of Cape May Court House, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2011. He was born in Cape May Court House and was a lifetime resident here. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He was an avid surfer.

Mark is survived by his wife, Jackie; his daughter, Sydney; his parents, George and Peggy Carlson; his twin brother, Michael and wife Kristine and their sons Evan and Jarrod; his grandfather, George A. Carlson, Sr.; his father in law and mother in law, Jack and Linda DeGrazia; his grandmother in law, Marie Gresh; and his aunts, uncles, and cousins, including his special aunt and uncle, Steven and Freeda Rothenberg.

Mark was an amazing father to his daughter. We will miss his smile and his sense of humor.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 803 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, where viewing will begin at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be in Cold Spring Presbyterian cemetery.
