Blahusch, Kathleen T.

BLAHUSCH, KATHLEEN T., age 84, of Cape May, NJ, died on Thursday, December 2, 2010, at the AtlantiCare Hospital, Atlantic City, NJ.

She was born November 24, 1926, in Reading, Pa. the daughter of the late John and Josephine Croke McGovern.

She moved here in 2005 from Pittsburgh, Pa. where she lived for over fifty years. She was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church here. In addition to her Church, she loved bingo, family and her friends who lived in the Victorian Towers .

She is survived by her children: Kathleen Stanley of Davidson, NC; JoAnn (Robert) McDonald; Daniel Blahusch (Deborah) of Wilmiington, DE; Ronald of Cape May Court House; Lynn Kader (William) of Bryn Mawr, PA; Stephen Blahusch (Lisa) of Davidson, NC and Jeffrey Blahusch (Nicolette) of Pittsburgh, Pa.; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Monday, December 6, 2010, 8:30 am to 9:30 am at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 525 Washiington Street Mall, Cape May, NJ following by the Funeral Liturgy at 9:30 am. Interment will be in Queen of Heaven cemetery, Peters Township, Pa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to The Love of Linda, PO Box 1053, Wildwood, NJ 08260.

Keating, Walter J.
Army

Walter J. Keating, 90, of Avalon, passed away on Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at his home. He was born in Philadelphia and moved to Avalon in 1962 from Northeast Philadelphia. He was a Master Sergeant in the Army during World War II. He served in New Guinea, the Southern Philippines, and Luzon and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, the American Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, and the World War II Victory Medal.

Mr. Keating is survived by his sons, Michael and wife Joan, and Sean and wife Mary; his five grandchildren, Steven, Lauren, Kaytie, Mike, and Merri; and his two great grandchildren, Bryson and Kanen. He was preceded in death by his wife Jean L. Keating on December 14, 2009.

At the request of the family, funeral services will be private at the Cape May County Veterans cemetery, Cape May Court House. Memorial donations may be made to National Parkinson Foundation, Gift Processing Center, PO Box 5018, Hagerstown, MD 21741-5018 or Holy Redeemer Hospice, 1801 Route 9 North, Swainton, NJ 08210.

James, Dennis A.

Dennis A. James, 59 - of Avalon, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family, on November 29, 2010. Dennis was born on December 1, 1950 and was a lifelong resident of Cape May County.

Dennis served as a U.S. Navy Seabee from 1969 to 1973 earning an Honorable Discharge with Good Conduct Medal.

Dennis earned a degree from Cumberland County Community College and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa (National Junior College Honor Society) and MU Alpha Theta (National Math Society). He was the Cumberland County College Commencement Speaker in 1996. He also earned a degree from Richard Stockton State College, graduating with highest honors and distinction in Business Studies.

Dennis had diversified employment experience in Cape May County which included the construction, hospitality, and commercial fishing industries. His professional experience began with the international public accounting and consulting firm of Deloitte, Haskins & Sells (Deloitte and Touche). He joined Sturdy Savings Bank in 1983. He was later promoted to Treasurer and became Sturdy's President and Chief Executive Officer in 1987, the position he held until his retirement in 2006.

Dennis was a Director of New Jersey's Community and Savings Bankers from 1993 to 1996. From 1993 to 1997, he was a Member of the Board of Governors of the New Jersey Savings League and its successor organization, the New Jersey League Community and Savings Bankers.

The highlight of his career was his being elected and serving as a director of the Federal Home Loan Bank of New York from 1996 to 2002. In this role, he was elected Vice-Chairman of the Board of Directors, served as Chairman of the Executive Committee, and served as a member of the Audit Committee and Human Resources Committee. He was extremely appreciative of all of the professional relationships and deep friendships he developed while serving on this board.

Dennis deeply cherished his three children and never missed any of their athletic and school events while they were growing up. In his later years, he enjoyed reading, gardening, walking and spending time with his grandchildren (who affectionately referred to him as "Pop"). You could often find him relaxing on the beach reading a book or taking a walk in town. He always looked forward to visits from his nieces and nephews, other relatives and close family friends. He always loved his visits from the Browns and chatting over the fence with all of his neighbors.

Dennis is survived by his loving wife and best friend Patricia (Hand), his sons Michael (Heather) and Brian (Michelle), his daughter Jennifer Davenport (Patrick), his six grandchildren Tyler, Tanner, Connor, Lexi, Maggie and Lauren, and one grandchild on the way.

He is also survived by his mother Ruth James, his brothers Richard (Kathleen), Bruce (Paula), and Randall, his sister Alina Martin (Patrick) and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father John.

The services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dennis' memory to Thomas Jefferson University Department of Medical Oncology, c/o Andrew Curran, 834 Chestnut Street, Suite 320, Philadelphia, PA 19107.

Meade, John Richard
Marines

John Richard Meade, 82, of Cape May Court House, passed away on Sunday, November 28, 2010 at his home. Born in Palmyra, NJ to the late John Richard and Emma (Brown) Meade, he has lived here for 11 years after moving from the Overbrook section of West Philadelphia. He and his wife Dorothy celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 2010.

Mr. Meade was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a member of the American Legion Post 214 in Upper Darby, PA. He was also a member of Our Lady of the Angels Church in Cape May Court House, NJ. He enjoyed drawing and was a very good artist.

Mr. Meade is survived by his wife, Dorothy M. (Brown) Meade; his sons, John Meade and Robert (Donna) Meade; his brother, Robert (Gladys) Meade; and his grandson, Robert Meade. He was preceded in death by his son, Edward.

Funeral Mass will be said on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Angels Church, 35 East Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House. Interment will be in Saints Peter and Paul cemetery, Springfield, PA.

Dorsheimer, Curt Ammon

DORSHEIMER, CURT AMMON, age 50, of Avalon, NJ, died on Thursday, November 25, 2010, at his home in Avalon. He was born in Richmond, VA, the son of Donald W. Dorsheimer and the late Helen Margaret Ammon Dorsheimer. He moved to Avalon from Lancaster County, PA in 1983 and was a well-known and highly-regarded roofing contractor.

Curt, a graduate of the Merchant Marine Academy in New York, lived on the water and loved to fish, fish and fish! He also loved boating, hunting, skiing, spending time with his precious daughter Ashley, taking his faithful dogs Bubba and Coco for walks on the beach, and the company of his many devoted friends. Curt, known for living, loving, working, fishing and playing hard, was also known for helping people at the drop of a hat and truly appreciating those who helped him in return.

He is survived by his children: Nicholas, Kristen, Danielle and Ashley; his much loved partner in life Sheri Bach, his beloved dog Coco, his father, Donald W. of Gibbstown; a brother, Dan G. of Lewisberry, PA; a sister, Lynn A. Smithson (Pete) of Florida, numerous nieces and nephews and all the dedicated and caring members of his "adopted Avalon family". A private memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at the convenience of the family. For those who desire, memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.

Gary, Donald Anthony

GARY, DONALD ANTHONY, 59, of Cape May, went home to be with the Lord on November 25, 2010.

He was predeceased by his parents James and Marie, maternal grandparents Linkford and Mary and nephews Curtis and Jerome.

Don leaves behind to celebrate his life: his beloved wife Yvonne; his adoring son, Jonathan; sisters, Patricia (Gerald), and Marilyn; brothers, Sidney and Kenneth; stepchildren, Christy, Donald and Andre; eight grandchildren; mother-in-law, Mary Ruth; sisters-in-law, Janet (Frank) and Michelle (Robert); and brothers-in-law, Gera (Nadine), Rodney and Kenneth; and a host of other loving family and friends.

A memorial service in Donald's honor will be held on Thursday, December 2, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House. Repast to follow service at the Middle Township Senior Center, 23 Romney Place, Cape May Court House, NJ.

Laughlin, Virginia P.

Virginia P. "Ginny" Laughlin, 80 years, of Rio Grande, formerly of Cape May Court House died on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at the North Cape Center, North Cape May. Ginny was born in National Park, NJ to the late Isabel Edith (nee Place) and Furman Price Austin and has lived here for the past ten years coming from Cape May Court House. She was a teacher's aide at Middle Township High School and retired in 1997 after thirty years of service. She was a member of Tabernacle Methodist Church and former member of First United Methodist Church of Cape May Court House and Cape May County Chapter of AARP.

She is survived by her daughter Victoria Shuhart of Rio Grande, her son Robert Laughlin of North Cape May, her brother Robert and his wife Rita Sinclair of North Cape May, three grandsons and three great grand daughters.

Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on December 18, 2010 at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, Erma, NJ. Interment is private. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 626 North Shore Rd., Absecon, NJ 08201

McDonald, Francis A.

McDonald, Francis A., 94, of Bonita Beach, FL and Sea Isle City died on Thanksgiving Day, November 25, 2010 in Woodbury, NJ. Frank was born and raised in Philadelphia, graduated from Northeast Catholic High School and St. Joseph College. He served in Europe with the U.S. Army during World War II and later summered in Sea Isle for 50 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Connelly McDonald and his brother, Daniel McDonald.

He is survived by his sons, Michael F. McDonald of West Chester, PA and Patrick M. McDonald of Lindenwold; five grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and three sisters, Eleanor Heft of Pine Hill, Mary Magee of Somerdale, and Catherine (Cass) Wiedmayer of Ocean City.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 43rd St. and Landis Ave., Sea Isle City, NJ 08243. Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Cape May County Veterans cemetery.

Polise, Florence R.

Florence R. Polise (nee Lloyd) on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 25, 2010 peacefully departed this life at Bishop McCarthy Residence in Vineland, NJ at the age of 89.

As a young woman she worked at several clothing factories in Woodbine where she developed her seamstress skills making troop uniforms during World War II. Later going to work for The Woodbine Developmental Center; then to Rennoc Corporation in Vineland where she was instrumental in the development of Santa's Best Plush Line of Stockings and Decorations, which are still most popular to this day. Many prom gowns and formal dresses for friends and family was her forte, not withstanding, her famous Sunday Pasta dinners. Not one for having idle hands, after her official retirement at the age of 60 she worked with all of her friends and relatives in the kitchen of Menz's Restaurant in Rio Grande until she was 80 years young.

She was the loving wife of the late Honorable Mayor Victor Polise of Woodbine, whom she was married to for 60 years. She leaves many friends and family behind and will be sadly missed by her children Jane D. Gentilini (Wayne) of Glenwood Springs CO, Diane J. Clark (Tom) of Colorado Springs, CO and Victor W. Polise (BJ) of Vineland, NJ. Six Grand children Jacki Lohman (Tom), Angie Bonsack (Will), Aimee Roberts (Dave), Dana Guenther (Roman), Porsche Holden (Pat) and Jenna Polise. Nine Great Grand children Sam, Emily & Ian Lohman, Payton Jane Bonsack, Grayson & Delaney Roberts, Thomas & Sebastian Guenther and Jack Holden. One Brother Jack Lloyd (Ethel) of Apex, NC and one sister Linda Murphy of Runnemede, NJ.

Funeral Liturgy will be said at Saint Casimir's Roman Catholic Church, 304 Clay Street, Woodbine, NJ on Friday Dec 3 at 11 am. Family and friends are invited to the viewing from 10 to 11 am at the church. Interment will be in Saint Elizabeth's cemetery, Goshen, NJ following the mass.

Knight, Doris

Doris Knight, 61, of Burleigh, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2010 at Court House Convalescent Center. Born in North Wildwood to the late George and Cora Lee (Taylor) Knight, Sr., she was a lifetime resident of this area. She was teacher at Wildwood High School and attended Eureka Baptist Church in Wildwood. She enjoyed shopping.

Miss Knight is survived by her children, Dana Mitchell, Timothy Mitchell, Christina Ortiz, and Janelle Clark; her brothers, Robert Knight, Donald Knight, and Gary Knight; her sisters, Helen Galloway, Betty Alston, and Gloria Langford; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 3, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, where visitation will begin at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Baptist cemetery, Cape May Court House. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 626 North Shore Road, Absecon, NJ 08201.

Walter, Mae G.

Mae G. Walter, 93, of Avalon Manor, NJ, formerly of Egypt (Whitehall), PA, passed away on November 20, 2010 at Luther Crest, Allentown. She was the wife of the late John H. Walter; daughter of the late Harry P. and Susanna (Coppersmith) Grammes. She graduated from Whitehall High School at age fifteen and became a music educator with a B.S. degree from West Chester. Although a music major, she was very active in athletics and was awarded that school's Valkyrie blazer. A teacher in the Whitehall Township Schools she established and directed the first Whitehall High School Band in 1936. She and her husband owned and operated Walter's Music Center in Egypt. Mrs. Walter was a member and accompanist of the Rose Croix Chapter #235, Order of the Eastern Star, North Catasauqua, and served on the Whitehall Township Library Board of Directors.

As a retiree, she was a member of the PA Association of School Retirees, United Methodist Church of Avalon, Avalon Seniors, and worked as office manager for her son John's Avalon Podiatric practice. In 1996, she co-founded the Middle Township Community Band, later renamed for her husband.

Mrs. Walter is survived by her daughters: Kathleen and husband Jerold Dougherty of Macungie, PA, and Suzann and husband John Callinan, Cape May Court House, NJ; twin sons: Dr. Thomas and wife Beverly of North Stonington, CT, and Dr. John, Jr., and wife Deborah of Media, PA. Also survived by eight grandchildren: Jennifer, Patrick, Megan, Christina, Brittany, Justin, John III, and Matthew; and eight great grandchildren.

In addition to her sister Arleen Meyers and brother Jesse Grammes, she was preceded in death by her grandson Evan.

She was dedicated to her family and friends and taught, by example, the virtues of kindness and understanding.

Funeral service is Friday, November 26 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Trexlertown, PA, where visitation will begin at 11:30 a.m. followed by the Eastern Star service at 12:15 p.m. On Saturday, November 27 friends may call from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel at the Cape May County Veterans cemetery, Cape May Court House, with graveside service to follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Lehigh Valley Branch of the Alzheimer's Association, 617-A Main Street, Hellertown, PA 18055; or the John Walter Cape Community Band, 32 Canterbury Way, Cape May, NJ 08204.
