Trueland, C. Edward
Army

C. Edward "Ed" Trueland, age 96, a lifetime resident of Cape May Court House, NJ, died on Saturday, August 28, 2010.

He was born in Cape May Court House, NJ, the son of the late Worthington (Bert) W. and Ada Bessie (Horn) Trueland.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church. Ed was an Army Veteran of World War II and was a member of the Thurston Elmer Wood Post 198 of the American Legion of Cape May Court House and was an exempt member of the Cape May Court House Volunteer Fire Company. He was the caretaker of the Fairview cemetery for many years. Ed also enjoyed trapping, farming and fishing.

He is survived by his step sons: Frank P. Majane, III and his wife, Dolores of Erma, NJ and John Majane and his wife, Rose of Springfield, MA; a step daughter, Frances Majane of Egg Harbor Township; a niece, Ivy Harmon of Cape May Court House; numerous step grandchildren; step great grandchildren; grand nephews and grand niece.

He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Lorraine M. on April 20, 2010.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 1, 2010, at 3 p.m. at the Fairview cemetery, Cape May Court House, NJ. There is no viewing. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Cape May Court House Volunteer Fire Company.

Bateson, Anna Mae

Anna Mae Bateson, 78, of Seaville passed away peacefully August 25, 2010. Ann was born October 31, 1931 in North Port Norris to the late Howard and Adeline Hewitt. She spent her childhood in Woodbine and was a 1949 graduate of Millville High School. Ann and her family later resided in Seaville where she owned and operated The Girls' Wayside Kitchen, a popular town diner. In 1983, she moved to Key Largo, Florida, where she lived for over 15 years before returning to southern New Jersey.

Ann was an avid Phillies fan, who rarely missed a televised game. She also loved playing cards and bingo and enjoyed many years of league bowling. She attended regular services at Calvary Baptist Church and was an active member of the Dennis Twp. Senior Center.

Other than her parents, Ann was predeceased by her brothers, Charles and Sonny Hewitt. She is survived by her children, Pat Baker (Tom) of Key Largo, Fl, Joe Petrella (Cindy) and Gene Petrella (Debbi), of Seaville and Mark Petrella (Kim) of Linwood, ten grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a niece, Candy White of Texas.

Ann enjoyed many years with her family and friends and will be greatly missed.

A service will be held at Calvary Baptist Church, 2373 Shore Road in Ocean View on Sunday, August 29 at 2pm. Friends may call prior to services, beginning at 1pm. She will be laid to rest at Calvary Baptist Church cemetery beside her parents.

In lieu of flowers, Ann's family encourages friends to make donations to Calvary Baptist Church.

McKeon, Nancy Marie

Nancy Marie McKeon, age 90, of Cape May Court House, NJ died on Thursday, August 25, 2010. She was born in Philadelphia, Pa. and was an area resident since 1987 moving from Havertown, Pa.

She enjoyed gardening, reading, decorating homes and enjoyed Nancy's dogs.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy M. Alexander of Cape May Court House; five grandchildren: William (Debbie) Och of Cape May Court House; Nancy Marie (Dennis) Holzwarth of Dallas, TX; Jacqueline (John) Kerr of Voorhees; Michael P. (Nicole) Och of Blue Bell, Pa. and Kristin L. (Chris) Gunn of Austin, TX and eleven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Henry on September 29, 2009 and a sister, Helen C. Giovan.

A memorial Mass will be said on Friday, September 3, 2010, at 11 am at Our Lady of the Angels Church, Garden State Parkway and E. Mechanic Street, Cape May Court House, NJ. Interment will follow in Cape May County Veterans cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Wallace, Corabel G.

Corabel G. Wallace (nee Garretson), "Co", 86, formerly of Avalon, daughter of the late George H. and Ruth B. Garretson, born on August 15, 1923, passed away on August 22, 2010 in Towson, MD. Born in Wildwood and raised in Cape May Court House, she was the beloved wife of the late William E. Neiman and Henry M. Wallace as well as a sister to the late Mary McClain. She was the devoted Mother of Nancy N. McKee and Susan J. Wallace and cherished Grandmother to Amy and Andrew McKee.

Corabel attended Mary Washington College, graduating second in her class. She was a successful businesswoman and co-owner of The Village Shop in Stone Harbor, New Jersey. She enjoyed playing bridge, was a member of P.E.O., a philanthropic organization and belonged to the Yacht Club of Stone Harbor and the Book Club of Avalon.

A Memorial Service will be held for Corabel at Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House on Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial in the Baptist cemetery in Cape May Court House will follow the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Granddaughter Amy McKee's name to The ARC Northern Chesapeake Region, 4513 Philadelphia Road, Aberdeen, MD 21001 or in her daughter, Susan Wallace's name to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 11403 Cronhill Dr., Suite E, Owings Mills, MD 21117.

Grace, David L.

Grace, David L., 47, of Villas passed away on Friday, August 20, 2010 at Cape Regional Medical Center. Born in Sea Isle to Norman and Gertrude Smith-Grace, he worked for Dennis Township Public Works Department as a truck driver.

Along with his mother Gertrude, he is survived by his fiancé Diana Innamorato, son Patrick of Erma, daughter Angel of Wildwood Crest, brothers Daniel of Clermont and Donald of Florida, his sister Doris of Wildwood, former wife Alice of Cape May Court House, 2 grandsons, a granddaughter, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Norman and son David Jr.

Services will be private as requested by the family. Donations in David's name may be made to the Lower Township Rescue Squad, 101 Georgia Avenue, Villas, NJ 08251.

Kane, Sr., Benson W.

Kane, Benson W., Sr., age 93 years, of North Cape May, NJ, died on Wednesday, August 11, 2010. Born in South River, NJ to the late Wadislava Koscivkiewicz & Marianna Jankowski he had lived here for the past twenty-two years coming from California. He was a member of St. John of God Church and was a self employed salesperson specializing in home improvement products. He was a musician who enjoyed playing his saxophone and enjoyed guiding tours through the Physick Estate in Cape May, NJ.

He is survived by his wife Eleanor M. (nee Meeker) Kane, his three sons; Ben W. Kane, Jr., Donald Kane and Charles Kane, his two daughters; Monica Taylor and Marilyn Petto, sister Mary Segreto, ten grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 12:30 pm, Tuesday August 17, 2010 at Sacred Heart cemetery, 1100 Millstone River Road, Hillsborough, NJ 08844. A memorial Mass will be announced at a later date.

Graham, Mary

Graham, Mary, on August 10, 2010 at 4:40 am at her residence in Whitesboro, N.J., answered her call from God.

Daughter of the late Willie and Lois Jacobs, she was born in Clarkton, NC on August 21, 1924.

Mary graduated from Farmers Union High School in Clarkton, NC. married to Stedman Worth Graham in 1941, she moved from N.C. to Philadelphia, PA Mary and Stedman later moved to Whitesboro, NJ and raised seven children. They were early pioneers and settlers of Whitesboro. Mary worked at Crest Haven Rehabilitation Center for 10 years as a Nurse. She spent the next 30 years working at the Woodbine Developmental Center as a Cottage Training Technician.

Mary was known by many as a faithful worker and leader. With an entrepreneurial gift for business, she leaves a legacy of selfless giving which includes family, friends and her community. Because of her southern upbringing and a love for cooking, there was always a hot meal and a warm smile for anyone who came by. She truly exemplified the art of giving back. Mary was instrumental in establishing the ARC along with Dr. Ulrich Laquer. They were both honored in 1969 for their grassroots work within the organization. She was also one of the original members of the Concerned Citizens of Whitesboro. Mary was a member of St. Stephens Church and later attended Christ Gospel Love Center.

Mary was predeceased in death by her beloved husband, Stedman Worth Graham, son, Irvin Graham and daughter Nakoma Crawford. Mary leaves to cherish her memory: Four children, Stedman Graham Jr., Anita Shelton, James Graham, and Darius Graham; Six grandchildren, Lois Saunders, Wanda Graham (deceased), Julius Graham, MaryKathy Graham, Wendy Graham, Courtney Shelton and six great grandchildren; Four brothers, Willie Bunn Jacobs (deceased), Clyde Jacobs, Anthony Jacobs (deceased), Bruce Jacobs (deceased); five sisters:Arniece Peacock (deceased), Louise Jacobs (deceased), Mattie Campbell (deceased), Delphia Skerett, and Mamie Jacobs; other survivors include nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral services will be held Saturday, August 14th, 2010, at 12:00 Noon at The Christ Gospel Church, 2209 Route 9, Whitesboro, NJ where a viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. to time of service at Noon. Interment will be in St. James Baptist cemetery in Lake Waccamaw, NC. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to: Caring for Kids - Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect - Box 695, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.

Smith, Gertrude Elaine

Gertrude Elaine Smith, age 61 years, a lifetime resident of Wildwood, NJ, died on Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at the Cape Regional Medical Center, Cape May Court House with her daughters at her side.

Born April 13, 1949 in Atlantic City, NJ to the late Willie Smith, Sr. and Gertrude Rich, she was a Certified Nurses Aide employed by the Crest Haven Nursing Home for over twenty years. After spending her early years in Philadelphia, she and her siblings came to know Wildwood as home and it was there she met and later married a young man named Anthony Farmer. They settled in Whitesboro, NJ, and from that union came two daughters. "Little Bits," as she came to be known, by all who knew and loved her, had left a lasting impression of love and kindness to her residents of the nursing home and co-workers alike.

Elaine enjoyed life with an unbridled passion for the things that meant the most to her... her family. Her music and her girls made her complete, but to her surprise, her legacy continued with the addition of her three grandchildren; Heaven, Bridgette and Eric.

She is survived by "her girls," her two daughters; Pamela Artlee Walker and Jacqueline Yvonne Farmer both of Somers Point, NJ; her companion of nineteen years, Jimmy Lowther of Wildwood, her brother, Willie D. Smith, Jr., of Wildwood and two sisters; Carolyn Smith of North Carolina & Jannise and her husband Clyde Sawyer of Philadelphia, PA and her three grandchildren.

To know her was indeed to love her, but to be loved by her was to be blessed indeed, and as she would always say upon parting, "It's never goodbye, always see ya later." Sho u right! - Gertude E.

A Memorial Funeral Service, led by Pastor Reginald Floyd, Esq. of Christ Worship Center Worldwide of Atlantic City, will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House. There is no calling time. Interment is private.

Purvis Jr., Joseph Garfield
Army

Joseph Garfield Purvis, Jr., age 61 years, of Cape May Court House, NJ, died on Sunday, August 8, 2010, at his home. He was born in Nashville, NC, the son of the late Joseph Garfield and Bessie Arrington Purvis, Sr. He was a resident here since 1984 coming from New York.

He was a finisher and patcher of yachts for the Canyon Club Marina. He served in the US Army during the Viet Nam Era having served in the Presidential Unit for President Richard Nixon. He was a member of the Christ Gospel Church. He enjoyed gospel music; he played saxophone and played in jazz bands. He also enjoyed restoring old cars and was a Redskins fan.

He is survived by his wife, Gail A.(nee Fiot) Purvis; four chiildren: Sherry D. Flintosh of Hainesport; Mark S. Kowalsky (Joyce) of Denver, Pa; Gary J. Kowalsky (Ava) of Williamstown and David A. Kowalsky (Mary) of Riverside; a sister, Rosa May Wilder of Chapel Hill, NC and three brothers-in-laws: Robert and John Fiot and Nathan Fiot (Carlyn) and ten grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 13, 2010, at 11 am at Christ Gospel Church, 2209 Rt. 9, Whitesboro, NJ where friends may visit from 10 to 11 am. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Kidney Foundation, 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville, MD 20852.

Decker, Lois "Judy"

Decker, Lois "Judy", 71, of Cape May Court House passed away on Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010. Born in Phoenixville, PA to Earl and Mildred Peteit-Walker, she moved to the area in the early 70's and worked at Cape Regional Medical Center. She was predeceased by her husband Grant Decker in 1994.

Judy is survived by her daughters, Kim (Al Laird) Taggart and Tammy (Brad) Bryan; her brother Herb Melrath; and her grandchildren Ethan, Jalen, and Chad.

A Memorial Service will be held on Friday August 6th, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Ave., Cape May Court House, NJ 08210. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association, South Jersey Chapter, 600 South White Horse Pike, Audubon, NJ 08106.

Ginyard, Markal A.

Markal Ginyard, 23, of Cape May Court House was called home by the Lord on August 1st, 2010. He was an outstanding young man who could light up a room with his infectious smile. A good friend, brother, son, grandson, nephew and stepbrother. Graduated Middle Township High School in 2005 with his outstanding achievements and a star on the panthers football team, which continued into Kean University with the same success graduating in 2009 with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting.

His passion for life and laughter was contagious to everyone around him. He leaves behind, to cherish his memory, his father Steven (Dani) Ginyard, mother Margaret Ginyard, twin brother Maurice Ginyard, brother Henry Ginyard, stepsisters Jazmin and Jennifer Alvarez, brother Marcus, sisters Tiana and Paris, birth mother Christina (Gregg) Thomas, aunts Eartha, Michelle and Nancy. Uncles David, Trim and Thomas.

His memory will also be cherished by dozens of cousins and friends who loved him dearly.

He will be sorely missed by all who loved him and will forever be in our hearts.

Viewing will be held at 10am-12pm on Friday August 6th 2010 at Christ Gospel Church 2209 Rt. 9 South, Whitesboro, NJ followed by services at noon. Burial immediately after at Mt. Olive Baptist cemetery, Swainton, NJ.
