Mangino, Joseph
Air Force

Mangino, Joseph, 83, of Cape May Court House, passed away Sunday, August 1st, 2010. Born in Woodlynne to Antonio and Katherine (Zagrino) Mangino, he summered in the area before eventually moving here. He served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II and later worked for the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers Lodge 13. He was an avid flounder fisherman.

Joe is survived by his daughter Arlene Reckard; sisters Flossie Plum and Marge Tofani; grandchildren Theresa Paige, Frank Sliwinski, Stephanie Reckard, and Gary Reckard; as well as eight great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Anthony Mangino.

All friends are welcome to come to a Celebration of Life Luncheon on Saturday August 7th, 2010 at Atkinson's Tavern, 1010 Rt. 9 South, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Cape May County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center, P.O. Box 501B, 4 Moore Road, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.

Young, Kenneth Amasa

Kenneth Amasa Young, 82, of Dennisville, passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2010. Born in Petersburg to the late Amasa and Mabel (Wriggins) Young, he was a lifetime resident of this area. He was an Army Veteran of World War II. An avid hunter and fisherman, he loved the outdoors. It was a familiar sight to see him riding his bicycle. He was always working.

Mr. Young is survived by his chidren, John D. (Patty) Young of Petersburg, Darin W. (Tony) Young of Dennisville, Donna M. (Toddy) Nichols of Dennisville, Bonnie R. Baum of Arizona, and Kenneth A. (Bonnie) Young, Jr. of Somers Point; his six sisters, Ada Devlin, Myrtle Young, Ida Cassidy, Elva Hearon, Virginia Platt, and Janice Demarest; his two brothers, Edward Young and Donald Young; 18 grandchildren; 44 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jane Young; his daughter, Arlene Mason; and his brother, Hobie Young.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, where viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Head of the River cemetery, Estell Manor.

Petosa, C.L. "Buck"

C.L. "Buck" Petosa, 85, a longtime resident of Stone Harbor, passed away on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at Crest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born to the late Carolino and Mary (Fuschino) Petosa and raised in the Nicetown section of Philadelphia, PA. In 1952 he married Dolores E. Zarli. They were blessed with two wonderful sons, Steven and Benard; who in turn with their respective wives Cynthia and Lori, blessed them with four beautiful grandchildren, LeAnne Petosa and Steven Petosa, and Ben (Stephanie) Petosa, Jr. and Jessica (Dustin) Miller, and four great grandchildren, Adam Petosa, Brooke Miller, Luca Petosa, and Molly Miller. He was preceded in death by his five brothers, Benard, Michael, Elmer, Cornelius, and Edward; and one sister, Concetta Sereni.

A retired Teamster, he was a former member of Calvary Church of Germantown in Philadelphia, which supported the Calvary Seaside House on 83rd Street in Stone Harbor. He was active as a counselor there for many years and developed a strong love for Stone Harbor and moved there permanently in 1975. He owned and operated Hahn's Restaurant in Stone Harbor for ten years.

Mr. Petosa was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marine and was a member of the Stephen C. Ludlam American Legion Post 331 in Stone Harbor. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of the following Masonic bodies: Past Master of Mitchell Lodge # 296 in Abington, PA in 1966 and again in 1972, Abington Royal Arch Chapter #245, Philadelphia St. John's Commandery Number 4, Knights Templar, Philadelphia Council #11 of Royal and Select Master Masons, and New Jersey Crescent Shrine Temple AAONMS. He was also a 35 year member of the Wildwood Golf and Country Club.

Viewing will be on Monday, August 2, 2010 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 95th Street and Third Avenue, Stone Harbor from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Masonic Service will begin at 12:00 p.m. with Funeral Services immediately following. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Stone Harbor Rescue Squad, 9508 Second Avenue, Stone Harbor, NJ 08247.

Schwartz, John "Bud"

Schwartz, John F. "Bud" - born on July 29, 1921 passed away July 28, 2010 at Cape Regional Medical Center. Formally of South Philadelphia, John resided in North Wildwood, NJ with his loving wife of 68 years, Frances (Moore). John was the amazing father of Eileen Simone (John) of Absecon, the late John Schwartz (Norma), Ellen Schwartz (Dormer), Frances Kircher (Paul) of Gibbstown, Robert (Valerie) of Woodbury, Danny of Reno, NV, and Brian of North Wildwood. Also mourning the loss of their Pop-Pop are his 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. He is fondly remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. John was preceded in death by his parents John and Margaret Schwartz, and his siblings Virginia, Cecilia, and Bernard.

Prior to his retirement in 1984, John was employed by the Boeing Company. He was a member of the North Wildwood Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge of Greater Wildwood. An avid learner, John took many classes in his spare time and was a passionate craftsman.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, August 2nd, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Notre Dame de la Mer, St. Ann's Church, 2901 Atlantic Avenue, Wildwood, NJ 08260. Interment is private.

Arenberg, Harold "Dutch"
Fire Department

Harold "Dutch" Arenberg, age 77, of Cape May Court House, NJ, died on Saturday, July 24, 2010, surrounded by his family.

Dutch was born in Philadelphia, Pa. the son of the late Eric Wilhelm and Florence S. Engstrom Arenberg and moved to this area as a freshman in high school. He was former owner of Harold Arenberg, Inc., a Marine and Bulkhead construction firm and Off Shore Storage Company.

He was a member and commissioner of the Middle Township Volunteer Fire Company for thirty five years and one of the founders of the Middle Townshhip Ambulance Corps.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara A.; a daughter, Cathy A. (Michael) Tomlin of Goshen; three sons: Jeffrey H. (JoLynn) of Dias Creek; Daniel (Judy) of Swainton and Keith Patrick (Nicole) of Cape May Court House and nine grandchildren: Michael Tomlin and his wife, Wesley; Meghan Tomlin, Emily Arenberg, Savannah Arenberg, Molly Arenberg, Keith Arenberg, Erik Arenberg, Haley Smith and Mariah Smith.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Eric "Bud" Arenberg and his sister, Ruth LeBeau.

Friends may call on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, from 10 am to 12 Noon at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, NJ with a service to follow at Noon. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery.

Hatch, Frances S.

Sister Frances Sylvia Estelle (Walker) Hatch departed this life on Saturday, July 24, 2010 at her home, Marina Bay Towers in North Wildwood, New Jersey.

Her favorite scripture was “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1

Sister Frances Hatch was born May 6, 1928 and was the daughter of the late Mr. Woodson Rudolph Walker, Sr., the step-daughter of the late Alfred H. Jackson and Mrs. Gladys D. (Alvarez) Walker Jackson of Wildwood, New Jersey. Many people knew her as Aunt Frances and others affectionately knew her as “Snookie”. She was educated in the public school system of Wildwood, New Jersey. She attended the Arctic Avenue School in Wildwood. The School Bell is at the Wildwood George Boyer Museum. She worked in the family owned business by the name of “A. Jackson Cleaners” on Park Boulevard in Wildwood, New Jersey.

After attending school, she became the wife of the late Rev. Dr. Stanley Wilson Hatch, Sr., former Pastor of Eureka Baptist Church in Wildwood, New Jersey. They were married August 6, 1949 in Henderson, North Carolina. From this union, they had three sons, Stanley Wilson Hatch, Jr. of Wildwood, New Jersey, Steve (Watson) Hatch (deceased) formerly of Chester, Pennsylvania and Rev. James Robert Hatch, Sr. of Swainton, New Jersey.

She is predeceased by her son Steve (Watson) Hatch, Jr. and her step-daughter, Barbara Ann Hatch.

She leaves to rejoice in her life: eight grandchildren: Guy Hatch Bethune, Crystal Hatch, Keith Hatch, James Hatch, Jr. and Clarence (Eugene) Cox III, Steve (Hatch) Green of Chester, Pennsylvania, Malika Allahymma of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania and Vanita (Hatch) Stevenson of Chester, Pennsylvania; three great grandchildren: Tehya Hatch Olsen, Shaquan Keymar Hatch, and Quamere Keywan Hatch; one sister, Mary Adams of Whitesboro, New Jersey; and one brother, Woodson Walker Jr. of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; and two daughters-in-law, Malinda Hoyle Hatch and Henrietta Hatch Carter. She is also survived by close nieces and nephews: Johnny Hatch, Billy Hatch, Antoinette Hatch Bradley, Craig Hatch, Corey Hatch, “Aunt” Marion Tyler Brown, all of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Phyllis Hatch Beach of Norwalk, California, and Bishop Jerry Brown of Toledo, Ohio; and a host of many more grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 2, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethel Commandment Church, 402 George Street, Whitesboro, where viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans cemetery.

Rey, Paul A.

Fire Department

Paul A. Rey, 88, of Sea Isle City, passed away on Saturday, July 24, 2010. Born in Philadelphia to Joseph and Anna Rey, he moved with his family to the area at a young age, later serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps and then working as a plumber. He was a lifetime member of the Sea Isle City Volunteer Fire Company and was a former 2nd Assistant Chief. He was a member in the Knights of Columbus and VFW Post 1963, both in Sea Isle City. Paul loved reunions with the Seventh Photo Group in the Eighth Army Air Force, vacationing in Florida in the winters, and being a lifelong Phillies fan. He was predeceased by his wife Jean in 1998.

Paul is survived by his children: Jeannie Rey, Patricia (Clarence) Smith, Paul (Barbara) Rey, Jacqueline Shields, and James Rey - who all reside in Cape May County; his sisters Eleanor Miller and Dorothea Rey; as well as 9 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister Marguerite Barth.

Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church, 4308 Landis Ave., Sea Isle City, NJ 08243. Viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Cape May County Veterans cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 626 North Shore Rd., Absecon, NJ 08201.

Keith, Charlotte Ann

Charlotte Ann Keith, 59, of Whitesboro, passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2010. She was born in Cape May Court House and was a lifetime resident here. She was a dietary aide at Eastern Shore Nursing Home and was formerly employed at LaMonica's and at Stokes Laundry.

She is survived by her sisters Dorothy Keith and Shirley A. Floyd-Keith; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, where viewing will begin 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in Household of Ruth cemetery, Whitesboro.

Kern, Edna M.

Edna M. Kern, 83, of Millville, formerly of Goshen, passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Eastern Shore Nursing Home. Born in Eldora to the late John Milton and Cora (Cheeseman) Whitaker, she lived in Millville for many years after living in Goshen. She was a member of the Goshen Fire Auxiliary and the P.T.A. in Goshen.

Mrs. Kern is the devout mother of Alvin A. Kern, Jr. (Janet) of Cape May Court House, Steven H. Kern (Cathy) of Key West, FL, Richard J. Kern of Millville, and Thomas M. Kern (Frances) of West Virginia. She is also survived by her brother, John Milton Whitaker (Betty) of Goshen; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Alvin A. Kern, Sr.; her son, Jeffrey; her grandson, John; and great granddaughter, Skylar.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, where viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Goshen Methodist cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 172 Route 50, Seaville, NJ 08230.

McGuckin-McBride-White, Mary N.

Mary N. (nee Newman) McGuckin-McBride-White, 93, of Avalon, passed away on Friday, July 16, 2010 at Cape Regional Medical Center. Born in Philadelphia to the late Joseph C. and Irene (Touhey) Newman, she summered here since 1962 before moving here permanently in 1975. She was a member of Maris Stella Church.

Mary was highly decorated by the Boy Scouts of America and was registered for fifty years. She helped found the Woman's Reserve Group of Philadelphia that BSA integrated in 1959. She was the first recipient of the Silver Fawn Award of BSA.

She had served as President of the Avalon Senior Citizens Organization and the Upper Cape May Chapter of the Deborah Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and secretary of the Avalon Land and Homeowners Association. She was the chief sponsor for the Philadelphia Polish Police Association weekends from Cape May County and served as the Treasurer for the Cape May Polish American Club for over nine years. She was involved with the March of Dimes.

Mary is survived by her loving husband Edward J. White; her children, John C. McGuckin (Dorothy), Mary Ellan Murray (William V), and Charles E. McGuckin (Regina); her stepchildren, Robert F. White and Mary Elizabeth Hinman; two grandsons, Jack McGuckin and Colin (Julia) McGuckin; four granddaughters, Kristen McGuckin, Lauren (Ed) Ide, Amie (Mathew) Trahan, and Bridget (Adam) Luedeke; four step grandchildren, Patrick and Barbara Jean White, and Buckingham and Mary Elizabeth Hinman; two great grandsons, Benjamin and Connor Ide; six great granddaughters, Morgaine Trahan, Megan and Emma Ide, Mackenzie Ann and Kaitlyn Elizabeth Luedeke, and Chloe McGuckin; and her sister, Elinore (Joseph) O'Neill of Philadelphia, PA. She was preceded in death by her husbands, John C. McGuckin and Edward J. McBride; and her brothers, George E. and Joseph C. Newman.

Mary was always a helpful and caring neighbor and friend. All will miss her.

Viewing will be held on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Funeral Mass will be at Maris Stella Chapel, 25th Street and First Avenue, Avalon. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Deborah Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 820, Browns Mills, NJ 08015.

Bevan, Scott J.

Scott J. Bevan, 43, of Cape May Court House, passed away on Thursday, July 15, 2010. He was the loving husband and best friend of Deneen, devoted son of Bob and Janet Bevan, proud brother to Marnie Lengle (Pete), Gregg (Eleanor) and loving uncle to Eva, Parker, Phoebe and Sam. Scott was raised and spent most of his life in Gloucester City, NJ. He was a graduate of Gloucester High School Class of 1984. He and Deneen lived in Cape May Court House for the past 6 years. Scott worked as a carpenter for Craig Otton Builders, Inc. He was a passionate and talented fisherman. Nephew, cousin, loyal friend, and owner of his "sweet puppy" Bella, Scott's courageous battle with melanoma ended with his loved ones by his side. The seas are now calm as he leaves the dock on his final voyage. A memorial service will be held at 6pm on Saturday, July 24th at Proprietor's Park, located on King St. and Jersey Ave. in Gloucester City. Tomlin, Mildred R.

Tomlin, Mildred R. (nee Peltz), 86, of Erma Park, formerly of Philadelphia, PA, passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2010 at her home. Born in Philadelphia to the late Harry E. and Jeanette (Lawrenson) Peltz, she moved here in 1948. She was a member of St. John Neumann Parish St. Raymond's Church and was an original member of St. Raymond's Church in 1948. She was a former member of the Altar and Rosary Society.

Mrs. Tomlin is survived by her children, Sister Patricia Tomlin S.S.J. of Wildwood, Col. Harry A. Tomlin (Donna) of Carlisle, PA, and Andrew Tomlin of Wilmington, NC; her grandchildren, Capt. Gregory Tomlin (Elizabeth) of New Windsor, NY, Michael Tomlin of Arlington, VA, and Cheryl Tomlin of Hermosa Beach, CA; her cousin, Sister Marita Francis O.S.F. of Mantua, NJ; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Monroe "Flick" H. Tomlin on January 22, 1980.

Viewing will begin on Monday, July 19, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Neumann Parish St. John of God Church, 680 Town Bank Road, North Cape May, NJ 08204, where Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Cold Spring Presbyterian cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Saint Joseph Villa, 110 West Wissahickon Ave., Flourtown, PA 19031.
