William H. Johanson, 88, of Knoxville, TN, passed away, Thursday, January 22, 2009, at the Knoxville VA Hospital.

Born in Manhattan, he resided in Holmdel and Charlotte, NC, before moving to Tennessee, two years ago. He was an office manager with Leif, Foster, Werle, Manhattan, for 35 years, retiring in 1982. He served his country in the Army during WWII.

William was predeceased by his wife, Margaret Barrett in 1996; and his parents, Gottfried and Vera (Chemka) Johanson. Surviving are two sons and daughter-in-laws, Jeffrey and Isabel Johanson of Nashua, NH; and Timothy and Patti Johanson of Knoxville, TN; a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Dan Hunt of Corolla, NC; six grandchildren; three great granddaughters; a brother-in-law, William Barrett of Long Island; and one nephew.

Family and friends are invited Tuesday, 2-4 & 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport; and Wednesday, 8: 30AM, with a 9: 15AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Church, Keyport. Interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Middletown.

Josephine Galiastro, 88, loving mother and grandmother, of Hazlet, passed away, Thursday, January 22, 2009, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel.

Born in Jersey City, she resided there, before moving to Hazlet 40 years ago. She was a homemaker, a communicant of St. Benedict’s Church, Holmdel, and a member of the Holy Rosary Society. Josephine was predeceased by her husband, Frank Galiastro, in 1976; and her parents, Gabriel and Maria (Buccafusco) Cali.

Surviving are three daughters and son-in-laws, Rose Marie and Richard Kutler of Old Bridge; JoAnn and Frank Zsilavetz of Waretown; and Francine and Martin Siederer of East Brunswick; two sons and daughter-in-laws, Frank and Pam Galiastro of NC; and Joseph and Mary Galiastro of Union Beach; one sister, Anna Mann of Wayne; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited Sunday, 2-4 & 7-9PM at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ; and Monday, 9AMwith a 10AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Benedict’s Church, Holmdel. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Keyport.

RAYMOND J. BENNINGTON, Jr.of CLIFFWOOD BEACH – died Sunday, January 18, 2009 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel. He was 70.

Born in Montclair, he resided in Laurence Harbor for 20 years before moving to Cliffwood Beach 44 years ago. Prior to his retirement 11 years ago, he was an iron worker for 37 years and past union president for Ironworkers Local 373 in Perth Amboy. He was a member and fundraiser for the Knollcroft S&A in Cliffwood Beach, and was a member of the South Amboy Elks. He was a past member of the Laurence Harbor 1st Aid Squad, as well as the Laurence Harbor Fire Department. In addition, he was a Laurence Harbor Little League Coach, a Pop Warner Football coach, and also coached at the St. Lawrence CYO. He also played on the USS Sierra Navy Baseball team. He was a Navy Veteran, having served on the USS Sierra during Peacetime. He attended St. Lawrence RC Church, Laurence Harbor.

Surviving are his wife, Nancy Stief Bennington; his children, Kim Mitchell of Lincoln, AL, Daniel of Jackson, Renee and her husband John Snyder of Inverness, FL, and David of Cliffwood Beach; three brothers, Robert of Old Bridge, Richard of Flat Top, WV, and Ronald of Howell; and two grandchildren, Jessica McClure and James Mitchell.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, 8AM, at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, followed by a 9AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence Church, Laurence Harbor. Interment with military honors will follow at the NJ Veterans Cemetery, Arneytown.

Relatives and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 PM. E. Brian Pfarr, 51, of Parlin, passed away, Thursday, January 15, 2009, at home.

Born in Rahway, he resided in Laurence Harbor, before moving to the Parlin section of Sayreville, eight years ago. He was employed for 20 years as an Assistant Vice-President, Broker Dealer Service Department, with Chase Bank, West Paterson. He was a communicant and assistant organist with St. Lawrence RC Church, Laurence Harbor.

Brian was predeceased by his father, Eugene G. Pfarr. Surviving is his mother, Alice (Yackulich) Pfarr of Laurence Harbor; and a sister, Lynn Lotz, and her husband, Richard of Middletown; a niece, Lisa McCabe; a nephew, Justin Lotz; a great niece, Keeley McCabe; and several aunts and uncles.

Family and friends are invited, Sunday, 2-4 &7-9PM, at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport, NJ; and Monday, 8AM, at the funeral home, with a 9AM Mass of Christian Burial at St. Lawrence RC Church, Laurence Harbor, NJ. Interment to follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Keyport.

Tyron Joseph Gerke
October 28, 2007

Tyron J. Gerke, age 67, of Lady Lake, Fl died Sunday, October 28 at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, FL. Born in Plattsburg, NY he had been a resident of Lady Lake since 2006 and had formerly lived in Woodland Twp. and Browns Mills, NJ.

Tyron was a retired Corrections Officer for the Mid-State Correction Facility at Fort Dix. He was a veteran of the US Army, a member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Police Corps, Keeper of the Keys at Fort Dix and he was the Chaplin for the Lady Lake Police Dept.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Gerke of Lady Lake; two daughters, Rene L. Libruk and husband Mark of Philmont, NY and Tammy L. Leon and husband Ramone of Chatsworth, NJ; three sons, Brian J. Gerke of Stottville, NY and Roy Thomas Elk and Al Thomas Elk both of Mt. Laurel, NJ and seven grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, November 2 from 10: 30 AM to 12: 30 PM at the Fort Dix Main Chapel at New Jersey Avenue and 8th Street on Fort Dix (Please have photo ID). Interment services will follow at the BGWCD Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 350 Province Line Road in Wrightstown.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com).

Margaret C. "Peg" Errickson
October 26, 2007

Margaret C. “Peg” Errickson, age 95, of New Egypt died Friday, October 26 at her residence. Born in Hornerstown, she was a lifetime area resident.

Peg was a retired school bus driver for the Plumsted Township Board of Education. She was a member of the New Egypt United Methodist Church, a Life Member of the New Egypt Historical Society, a Charter Member of the New Egypt Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the New Egypt First Aid Squad.

Peg was pre-deceased by her husband, Orval “Shorty” Errickson and her twin sister Mary Giltner. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and by many good friends.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 30 at 11: 00 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com), with Pastor Kim Wecht and Rev. Larry VanHise, officiating. Burial will follow in the Cream Ridge Cemetery in Cream Ridge. Calling hours will be on Monday evening from 7: 00 to 9: 00 PM at the funeral home.

Nadine K. Wells
October 25, 2007

Nadine K. Wells, age 46, of Browns Mills died Thursday, October 25 at Virtua Memorial Hospital in Mt. Holly. Born in Oxnard, CA, she was a lifetime resident of the New Egypt, Cream Ridge and Columbus areas.

Nadine had been employed as a dispatcher for the Freehold Boro Police Department, Yardville Supply in Yardville and R.E. Pierson Concrete in Mt. Holly.

Daughter of the late Henry L. Wells, she is survived by her mother & step-father, Cindy & Tom Meehan of Browns Mills; a brother, Laurence Wells & wife Rita of Allentown, NJ; her twin sister, Karen Ralston & husband Craig of Millstone; a step-brother, T.J. Meehan of Cookstown; her nieces & nephews, Nicholas Wells, Samantha Wells, Rachel Ralston, Christopher Ralston, Crystal Meehan and Shawn Meehan and she is survived by many wonderful friends.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, October 28 from 7: 00 to 9: 00 PM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com), with graveside funeral services held on Monday, October 29 at 11: 00 AM at Emleys Hill Cemetery on Burlington Path & Emleys Hill Roads in Cream Ridge.

Lester R. Brown, Sr.
October 23, 2007

Lester R. Brown, Sr., age 82, of New Egypt died Tuesday, October 23 at Kimball Medical Center in Lakewood. Born in Neptune Twp., he was a longtime resident of New Egypt.

Lester was a retired mechanic for McGuire AFB. He was an Army Veteran of WWII receiving a Purple Heart and two Battle Stars after being wounded during battle in Belgium on December 29, 1944. He served as an anti-tank gun crewman with the 75th Div., HQ 290th Infantry during the Rhineland and Ardennes Campaigns. He was a life member of the VFW Post 6590 in Cookstown.

Wife of the late Susie Brown, father of the late Esther Weber and step-father of the late Margaret Pavlica and Mable Havens; Lester is survived by two sons, Lester Brown, Jr. of New Egypt and Russell Brown of Jackson; a daughter, Sue Stillwell of Jackson; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 27 at 11: 00 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com). Interment will be in Cassville Cemetery in Cassville. Calling hours will be on Saturday morning from 9: 00 to 11: 00 AM at the funeral home.

Agnes May Taylor
October 22, 2007

Agnes M. Taylor, age 92, of Somersworth, NH and formerly of New Egypt, died Monday, October 22 at Frisbie Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NH. Born in Walton Twp., NY, she was a long time resident of New Egypt before moving to NH to live with her daughter.

Wife of the late Arthur H. Taylor; mother of the late Judy Schafer, Jean Poppe, Ann Young, Mary Smith, Russell “Gussie” Taylor, LeRoy Taylor, Larry Taylor and Donald Taylor; she is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Barbara and Marvin Ansteth of Somersworth, NH and Emily and Richard Lang of Gays Mill, Wisconsin; a son and daughter-in-law, Arthur and Clara Taylor of Southampton, NJ; a brother, Lloyd Sanford of Florida; 3 sisters, Bessie Samuels of Florida, Joyce Hall of Bainbridge, NY and Mary Paranesi of Merrickville, NY; 30 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 26 at 11: 00 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com), with Rev. Horace Frantz, officiating. Interment will follow in Emleys Hill Cemetery in Cream Ridge. Calling hours will be on Thursday evening from 7: 00 to 9: 00 PM at the funeral home.

Kenneth H. Francis
September 29, 2007

Kenneth H. Francis, age 48, of New Egypt died Saturday, September 29 at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton. Born in Lawton, OK, he had been a New Egypt resident since 1986, coming from Hornerstown.

Kenny was a graduate of the Admiral Farragut Academy in Pine Beach, NJ and attended Eastern University in St. Davids, PA. He had been employed as an Admissions Representative for the Chubb Institute in New Brunswick and was the former owner of the New Egypt Recreation Oasis. Kenny was well liked and very active in New Egypt and Plumsted Township affairs, serving on the Plumsted Township Committee for 16 years and was the current Deputy Mayor. He had also served on the Plumsted Twp. Planning Board, the Plumsted Twp. MUA and was the Township Liaison for the Fire Co. and First Aid Squad and was proud to be able to start the first paid coverage for the First Aid Squad in New Egypt. Kenny was also an Assistant Scout Master for the Cub Scouts and was a member of the Bordentown Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife Maureen (nee Wooldridge) Francis; his parents, Kenneth J. and Mildred A. (nee Johnson) Francis; a son, Jake Francis; a daughter, Katie Francis all of New Egypt; a brother and sister-in-law, J. Rodney and Lydia Francis of Bordentown; a sister and brother-in-law, Tracey and Jack Byrne of Hornerstown; his nieces and nephews, Christie and Ryan Byrne and Heather, Amanda, Victoria and Jonathan Francis and by his good friends, Dave and Linda Leutwyler of New Egypt.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 3 at 11: 00 AM at the Tilghman Funeral Home, 52 Main Street in New Egypt (www.tilghmanfh.com), with Rev. Jay Rambo, officiating. Interment will be in Emley’s Hill Cemetery in Cream Ridge. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, October 2 from 2: 00 to 4: 00 and 7: 00 to 9: 00 PM at the funeral home.
