KOCHAN, DELLA MARIE (nee FORD) - of Mystic Island section of Little Egg Harbor Twp., died Sunday, December 5, 2004 in home of her daughter Bernadette Cardell in Edison. Born in Elizabeth, she lived in Mystic Island for 20 years. She worked as a needle inspector for Singer Manufacturing Co., Elizabeth, for five years, retiring many years ago.
She was predeceased by her husband Joseph in 1989 as well as a brother Nicholas Balmann and a sister Catherine Trumbetas. Surviving are a son, Edward J. Kochan of Monmouth Junction; a daughter, Bernadette "Bunny" Cardell of Edison; three brothers Louis Balmann of No. Brunswick, James Balmann of Westfield, and Michael Balmann of Linden; two sisters, Mary DiAntonio of No. Brunswick, and Elizabeth Bialecki of Cranford; sister-in-law, Mary Neubould and brother-in-law James Kochan. Also survived by four grandchildren Karen and Brian Cardell and Jennifer and Jonahan Kochan.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at 10:00 am at the Leonard Home for Funerals, 242 w. Jersey St., Elizabeth. Interment Fairview cemetery, Westfield. Visiting hours Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9pm at the funeral home.
Donations may be made to Trinity Hospice, 354 Union Ave., Elizabeth, NJ 07208.

BERNINGER, ANNA L., 93 - of Nesco, Mullica Twp., passed away on Monday, December 6, 2004 at the Kessler Memorial Hospital, Hammonton. she was born in Nesco and was a life long resident. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Nesco Fire Co. and a member of the Nesco New Columbia United Methodist Church and a former member of the Nesco P.T.A. Mrs. Berninger was an avid Phillies fan and loved all kinds of flowers. She traveled to many places on bus trips.
Predeceased by her husband, Clarence (Rance) Berninger and her daughter, Mary Ann Burke. She is survived by a daughter, Louise Wood, Nesco; grandchildren, Lou Ann Whiteley and her husband, John, Frank and William Burke, all of Nesco; a brother, William Thibault and a sister, Mary Bell, both of Nesco. Also four great grandchildren, Frank Burke IV, Kyle Burke, Kristin Burke all of Nesco and Matthew Whiteley, Williamstown.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2004, 9:30 am at the Landolfi Funeral Home, 237 Bellevue Ave., Hammonton. Viewing from 8 am Thursday. Burial: Batsto Pleasant Mills cemetery.

JAJE, CAROL M., 61 - of Cape May Court House, died on Saturday, December 4, 2004. Born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Robert and Mildred (Hysek) Keith, she was a lifetime resident here. She was a member of the Parkway South Seventh Day Adventist Church in Marmora. She formerly worked at the Woodbine Developmental School for 13 years.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph; her children, Marisa S. Jaje of Cape May Court House, Melanie S. Jeong of Plymouth, Ml, Donna Marie Bliven of Georgia, and Nathaniel Jaje of Cape May Court House; her brothers and sisters, Diane Shinn of Villas, Robert Keith of Cold Spring, Donna Webb of Villas. Denise Uhlman of Cape May Court House, Dennis Yearicks of Green Creek, and Darlene Nock of Tampa, FL; and three grandchildren,
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 9, 2004 at 2:30 p.m. at the Parkway South Seventh Day Adventist Church, Roosevelt Blvd. and Route 9, Marmora, where friends may call after 1:30 p.m. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1060 North Kings Highway, Suite 309, Cherry Hill, NJ 08304.

CAPELLI, JOSEPH, 59 - of Hammonton, died Sunday, December 5, 2004 at his residence. Born in Hammonton, he was an area resident all his life. Surviving are his mother Frances (Inferrera) Capelli, his father Salvatore (Bill) Capelli, Sr, one brother, Sal (Shirley) Capelli, Jr., one sister Anna Capelli and a niece Maribeth Capelli all of Hammonton. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Thursday, December 9, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial, 11:30 a.m., St. Anthony of Padua Church, Rt. 206, Hammonton. Interment Holy Sepulcher cemetery. Donations to St. Joseph School, 133 N. Third St., Hammonton, NJ 08037. Arrangements by the Marinella Funeral Home, (609) 561-1311.

MATTLE, BERTHA M., 61 - of Mays Landing, passed away on December 5, 2004 with her family by her side. She was born in Egg Harbor City and was a lifetime resident of Mays Landing. Bert was loved by all and known as the "Neighborhood Mom."
She was the loving mother of her four children: Brian Mattle and his wife Sherri, Melanie Cradock and her husband Marshall, Scott Mattle and his wife Michele, and Heather Mattle; and their father Karl J. Mattle, Jr. She is also survived by her mother Hannah Heintz; three sisters: Freda Bird, Darlene Brannen, and Bonnie Brittingham; and eight grandchildren: Spencer, Carson, Derek, Scotty, Cody, Madisen, Sean, and Evan.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 12 Noon, Friday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Rt. 50 & 2nd St., Mays Landing, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery, Mays Landing.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ronald McDonald House, Cooper Hospital, 550 Mickle Blvd., Camden, NJ 08103.

SHOCKLEY, DOROTHY A. "Dot", 77 - of Atlantic City, departed this life and went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 1, 2004 at the Atlantic City Medical Center, City Division. Raised in Thompson, GA, she attended the Thompson public schools and was a former member of the Paine Baptist Church. Dot relocated to Philadelphia, PA where she lived briefly and then relocated to Atlantic City in 1947. Dot was affiliated with the local Baptist Churches, was a member of the 101 Women's Club under Mrs. Barbara Woodall and was lastly employed as a Supervisor at the Chalfonte Haddon Hall "Resorts" in Atlantic City. Predeceased by her parents, Willie Albert and Lela B. Wright-Shockley, and three brothers, Dot is survived by four sisters, Carrye S. Moore of Thompson, Eleanor Shockley of Bronx, NY, and Sarah Baskin and Agnes Baker, both of Danbury, CT; six brothers, Henry Neal and his wife, Estelle, Joseph Neal and Milton Neal and his wife, Esther, all of Thompson, Reverend and Mrs. Willie Neal of Columbus, GA, and Lomar Neal and his wife, Evelyn and Arthur Neal and his wife Elsie, all of Bronx, NY; four cousins, Thomas, Regina, Lisa and Wanda Page, of Atlanta, GA; a special grand niece and caretaker, Ms. Joanie McKeever, of Bronx, NY; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and many fine friends. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 10, 2004 at 3 p.m. at Mikal's (609-344-1131) Funeral Parlor, Inc., 1033 Baltic Ave., Atlantic City. Viewing 1-3 p.m. Burial private.

FRIEL, JOHN, 73 - of Margate, formerly of Southwest Philadelphia, passed away on December 5, 2004.
Survived by loving wife of 48 years, Anne (Devenny); children Mary, Joanne (Allen DiDonato), Jack (Michelle), Donna, Patrick (Patricia), Elaine (John Porcello), Joseph (Carol) and Kevin; grandchildren Maureen and Megan Friel, Alec and Elise DiDonato, James, John and Jacqueline Porcello, and Sean and Marybeth Friel; and brothers Donald (Mildred) and James (Benny Jean).
Mr. Friel was a retired Naval diver and Philadelphia police officer. He also worked for the Philadelphia Zoo and for the Atlantic City Housing Authority.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Thursday 11 a.m. at the Blessed Sacrament Church, Margate. Friends may call one hour prior. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Atlantic City Medical Center Hospice or to Shore Memorial Cancer Center. Arrangements by the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home.

SPANDAU, MARGARET M., 93 - of North Cape May, died on December 4, 2004 at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she formerly lived in Ridgefield Park, before moving to this area in 1961. She was a graduate of Strayer Business School in Philadelphia. During the 1930's, she was a secretary for the Philadelphia Athletics. She was then employed as a supervisor by Bell Telephone of Teaneck. She was a former member of Cold Spring Presbyterian Church of Erma.
Surviving are a son, John Mallison of North Cape May and a sister, Kathryn Schuster of Wynnewood, PA. She was predeceased by her husband, Carl in 1984. Services were at the convenience of the family. Evoy Funeral Home.

FLAHERTY, MARGUERITE T., 97 - of Our Lady's Residence, Pleasantville, peacefully on December 4, 2004.
Beloved sister of Msgr. J. Francis Flaherty of Hammonton and Marian Flaherty of Our Lady's Residence. Predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Margaret (nee Foy); predeceased by siblings Anna, Joseph and Thomas Flaherty, as well as, Rev. Timothy Flaherty, OSB.
Born in Camden, Marguerite and her family were parishioners at Immaculate Conception Cathedral. In the early 1950s the family moved to Collingswood and belonged to St. John's RC Church.
Viewing and funeral Thursday, 10:30 a.m. in Our Lady, Star of the Sea RC Church, 2651 Atlantic Ave., Atlantic City. Funeral Mass, 11 a.m. Interment in Calvary cemetery, Cherry Hill

KOEN, JOSEPH T., 83 - of Avalon, died on Sunday, December 5, 2004, at the Presbyterian Hospital, Philadelphia. Mr. Koen was born in Philadelphia, PA, and raised in Avalon. He was an active member of Maris Stella Church serving as an usher, worked bingo, helped with the Men's Ecumenical Breakfast and was one of the offertory counters. He was a member of the Avalon Fire Police; served on the Planning and Zoning Boards; was a past treasurer of ASCO and now assistant treasurer; a member and past president of TROA (MOAA); the Avalon Lions Club and the Avalon Bowling League. He was an Army Veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict retiring as a Major after twenty one years of service. He was a graduate of LaSalle University. He retired from RCA as a logistic engineer after 25 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane, nee Smith; two daughters, Elizabeth Morris of Wenonah, and Kathyln Lauf of Exton, PA; a step-daughter, Kathleen Nace of Jeffersonville, PA; and a step son, Jack Kelly of Haddonfield; thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He is survived by a brother, John of Wenonah. He was preceded in death by a brother, William.
Funeral Liturgy will be said on Thursday, December 9, 2004, at Noon at the Maris Stella Church, Stella Church, 50th and Dune Drive, Avalon, where friends may call 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Interment in the Cape May County Veteran's cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Rosary Society of Maris Stella Church; the Avalon Volunteer Fire Company, or the Avalon Rescue Squad.

LIVINGSTON, CHARLOTTE A. 94 - of Northfield, on Sunday, December 5, 2004 at Shore Memorial Hospital in Somers Point. Born in Brooklyn, NY she was formerly of Ocean City, before moving to Northfield three years ago. Mrs. Livingston was the owner of Sea Spray Luncheonette in Sea Isle City for five years, and also owned Crossroads Luncheonette in Seaville.
Beloved wife of the late William L., surviving are a daughter, Frances P. Justis and her husband Robert of Northfield; a granddaughter, Kimberly Mac Leod of Marmora.
Friends may call Wednesday evening from seven until nine o-clock at the Godfrey Funeral Home of Palermo, 644 South Shore Road, Palermo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday morning at 11 o'clock from St. Frances Cabrini R.C., Second Street at Atlantic Avenue, Ocean City. Burial will follow Mass in the Seaside cemetery, Palermo.
The family suggests those who desire send memorial contributions to the Northfield Rescue Squad, 1600 Shore Road, Northfield, NJ 08225.

GIBSON, DOROTHY B., 78 - of Egg Harbor Township, passed away Sunday at home surrounded by her family. She was formerly of Linwood.
Born in Linwood, she was the daughter of the late Charles and the late Marian (Adeylotte) Buckley.
Dorothy was co-owner with her husband of the Buckley Electric Motor Company. They also operated and owned the Carriage House Antique Store for twenty five years. She worked as the City Clerk of Linwood for ten years and most recently worked for Atlantic Electric for fifteen years in the Egg Harbor Township offices. She is survived by her beloved husband of 57 years, Walton T. Gibson; her son, Walton T. Gibson, Jr. and his wife, Shirley of AZ; her two daughters. Sandi Rinck and her husband, Bud, of Marmora and Marian LaPadula and her husband, John of Somers Point; six grandchildren, Allison & Barbara Rinck, T.J., Tracy, Steven, and Zoey, and three great grandchildren, Hayden, Hunter, and Cade.
Friends may call Wednesday, December 8, 2004 from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Adams-Perfect Funeral Homes, Inc., 1650 New Road, Northfield. Memorial service will be held Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

STEIN, LOUIS, 87 - of Vero Beach, Florida, died November 30, 2004 at Indian River Estates Medical Center after a prolonged illness.
Mr. Stein was born September 24, 1917 in Cumberland, Maryland, and moved to Vero Beach 14 years ago from Fort Pierce, Florida.
He received his Masters in Accounting for Penn State University and was the Treasurer at Wheaton Industries, Millville for 30 years.
Mr. Stein was a member of St. Augustine of Canterbury Episcopal Church, Vero Beach.
He served in WWII, as a 1st Lt. in the US Army.
Surviving are his daughter, Barbara Brown of Miami, FL; a son, Robert Stein of Millville; and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Louise.
At the family's request, there will be no visitation.
Arrangements are under the direction of Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach.
