LOEFFLAD, SR., JOSEPH FRANCIS, 70 - of Somers Point, passed away at his home on Saturday, March 05, 2005.
He was born in Upper Darby, PA and had resided in Somers Point for the past 42 years. He was a graduate of the Waldron Academy, Malvern Prep and had attended Drexel University. He served our country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
Joseph was a computer scientist, who retired after 35 years from the Federal Aviation Agency. He then was employed by Computer Sciences Corporation from 1991 until present. He was an active member and a parishioner of Saint Joseph Church in Somers Point, previously served on the Parish Council, School Board and was a past Athletic Director of the Saint Joseph CYO Sports Program. He also coached and refereed in various youth Little League and basketball programs. Joseph was a member of the Somers Point Republican Club and a recent member of the Ocean City Card Club.
His family was his life. He was preceded in death by his parents' Paul A., M.D. and Dorothy M. (Glascott) Loefflad. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 46 years Ann C. (nee Murray) Loefflad; his daughter Patricia A. Laird; his son Joseph F. Loefflad, Jr., and his daughter-in-law, Dana Loefflad; his sons' Robert Andrew Loefflad and Michael Joseph Loefflad. He is also survived by his four grandchildren J.P. and Joseph Laird and David and Jack Loefflad. Also surviving are his brother Paul A. Loefflad and his sister Dorothy M. Arata and their families; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mary Elizabeth and Gregory Harrison and their families.
He was the best husband, father and grandfather in the world and he will live on in our hearts forever.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Friday, March 11, 2005 at 10:30 AM, in Saint Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 606 Shore Road in Somers Point. Burial will be held privately. Memorial contributions in Joseph's name are requested forwarded to the Saint Joseph Regional School Fund, 606 Shore Road in Somers Point, NJ 08244.

SHIKES, LUCILLE, 90 - passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2005 at Brandall Estates in Linwood. Formerly of Philadelphia and Cherry Hill, she was born in New York City on December 5, 1914, a place she never stopped loving. Lucille was an accomplished interior decorator and was a graduate of Smith College, class of 1936.
Predeceased by her husband Norman B., with whom she shared a wonderful and adventurous marriage for 40 years. She is survived by her daughter Marjorie L. Shikes of Egg Harbor Township; son Peter B. Shikes of AZ; her precious granddaughter Jan T. Weber of Margate; her two sons Jacob and Avram Weber and sister Alice Stoller Scott of AZ. Services were private. Arrangements by the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home. Incogitum, Simplicitas, Fortunatai.

BRIGGS, GEORGE C. 80 - of Rio Grande, passed away Monday at home. Born in Anglesea, he has been a life long resident of the county. Mr. Briggs was a retired plumber with Clarence Bradshaw & Son Plumbing.
He was a veteran of WWII in the U.S. Army and the VFW and American Legion. George was a member of the Anglesea Fire Co. for over 45 years where he served as the financial secretary for many years.
He was pre-deceased by his daughter Cherylyn A. Briggs.
He is survived by: Wife of 58 years Marie L. nee Dotts, Daughter: Suzanne Hoffman and husband John Son: George Briggs and wife Melissa, four Grandchildren: John C. Hoffman, Jeffrey C. Hoffman, Patrick Briggs & Shane Briggs. Great grandchildren: Isaac, Jeffrey & Dylan Hoffman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday 10am at the Church of the Assumption, 7100 Seaview Ave., Wildwood Crest, N.J. where friends may call from 9 am. Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Cold Spring, N.J. Donations in memory of Mr. Briggs to the Anglesea Fire Company would be appreciated. Arrangements are by the Ingersoll-Greenwood Funeral Home.

TOEGEL, M.D., DR. ALOIS, 84 - of Ewing Twp., died Sunday at home. Born in Sternberg, Germany he lived in Ewing since 1972. He formerly lived in the Ancora Section of Winslow Twp. He was a Psychiatrist and Clinical Director for Ancora Psychiatric Hospital. Dr. Toegel also worked at Trenton Psychiatric Hospital and Byberry Hospital. He received his medical degree a the University of Graz in Austria. Dr. Toegel was a member of the American Medical Association, and the American Psychiatric Association. Dr. Toegel is survived by his wife: Maria (nee Fressner) Toegel; two sons and their wives: Kurt and Patricia Toegel of Chicopee, MA; Han and Phyllis Toegel of Milford, MA; one daughter and her husband: Ursula and Rocco T. Santora of Hammonton; five grandchildren: Brian Toegel, Greg Toegel, Rocco T. Santora, Jr., Michael Santora and Christopher Santora, three great grandchildren: Kasandra Toegel, Justin Toegel and Kyle Toegel. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 11:00 AM at the Carnesale Funeral Home, 202 S. Third Street in Hammonton, where a viewing will be held after 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Oak Grove cemetery in Hammonton. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the charity of donors choice.

ASHMEN, MIRIAM E. "Sissy" (nee Peterson), 76 - of Northfield, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2005 at Shore Memorial Hospital, Somers Point. Until her retirement, she was a sales representative for Equifax Credit Bureau. A lifetime area resident she was a graduate of Holy Spirit High School. In her earlier years she was an avid bowler in Margate Bowling Leagues. Aunt Sissy, has she was lovingly known, continually bestowed boxes of chocolate upon those who touched her life.
She is survived by a brother Charles Peterson and his wife Mary of Ventnor, a sister Kathryn Janet Walls and her husband Joseph of Linwood and 14 nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday 10:30am at St. Bernadette's Church, Rt. 9, Northfield where friends are invited to call beginning at 9:30am. Burial will follow at Holy Cross cemetery, Mays Landing. (George H. Wimberg Funeral Home, Linwood).

KNOPF, FLORENCE MARY (nee Bailey), 93 - of Millville, died on Friday at the Maurice House after a brief illness. Born in Mauricetown, she was the daughter of the late John and Elizabeth Bailey. She graduated from Port Norris High School in 1930 and received a Bachelors of Science degree in education from the University of Delaware in 1934. Florence enjoyed singing, and while attending college, she regularly performed live on radio station, WDEL. She was also an accomplished organist. After college. Mrs. Knopf taught school at the Pearl Street and Irving Ave. elementary schooIs in Bridgeton. She had been a Millville resident for over 40 years. Florence was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Shekinah Chapter #82, Order of the Eastern Star and Citizens United to Protect the Maurice River. She is survived by two daughters: Margaret "Peggy" Jackson and husband, William, of Horseheads, NY and Lois Abbott and husband, Rick of Millville; sister, Pearl Steelman of TX; two grandchildren: Keith Jackson and Wendy Hussey and five great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew C. Knopf. Services and burial will be private. Memorial donations may be made the Mauricetown Methodist Church, 9574 Noble St., Mauricetown, NJ 08329.

KAZLOW, THEODORE J., 89 - of Cape May, died Sunday in Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital, Cape May Court House.
Mr. Kazlow was born in Philadelphia, PA and has been a Cape May resident for 53 years.
He attended Marinopolis Preparatory School, in Connecticut. He was a mechanic and Service Manager for several local automobile dealerships. He formerly owned an operated the charter fishing boat "Barbara G", out of the Cape May area. He later worked as the Parts Manager for the H.B. Christman & Son Co.
Mr. Kazlow was a member of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, where he also served as an usher. He was a member and Past Grand Knight of St. Mary's Council, Knights of Columbus, Cape May; and was a member of the Msgr. Moroney General Assembly 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, in Cape May Co.
He worked many years for the Hemophilia Society as a local fund raising chairperson.
Mr. Kazlow was pre-deceased by his wife Melvina (1999); his son Ted Kazlow (1995); and a grandson Jamie Fiocca (1985).
Mr. Kazlow is survived by a daughter, Sandra Fiocca, of Cape May, three grandchildren, Christine McWayne, Deanna Matthews, and Andrew Fiocca, a sister Josephine Toth, of Philadelphia and two great grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Cape May. Relatives and friends may call at the Church Thursday from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Lower Township. Donations may be made as Mass Cards. (Sudak-Danaher Funeral Home, Cape May).

LIPKA, FRANCIS J. "FRANK", 86 - of Marmora, died March 5, 2005, at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital, Cape May Court House, surrounded by his family. He had suffered from Alzheimer's Disease and recently fell ill.
Mr. Lipka, who was born and lived the majority of his life in Philadelphia, attended Simon Gratz High School in the city's Nicetown section, Massanutten Military Academy in Virginia, and Drexel University. The son of Polish immigrants, he started his professional career with United Engineers and went on to work 23 years as an electrical designer for the Sun Oil Company.
He met his future wife at Jack's Drugstore in Philadelphia, where she and her friends often went after school to dance the jitterbug. They were married in July of 1942, shortly after he received his draft orders from the U.S. Army at the start of the U.S. involvement in WW II. He underwent training at several Army camps across the country, and set sail for Asia from California in the fall of 1941, his ship in total darkness, zigzagging across the sea to avoid detection by prowling German U-boats. The men onboard were not told their destination until they had already landed, a month later, in India. Mr. Lipka then was dispatched to the jungles of Burma, where he served four years among tigers, hyenas, Japanese gunfire, and monsoons, working to construct the Burma Road, an 1,100 mile supply line - an engineering marvel - cut through three mountainous nations.
He returned to the United States in 1946, and attended Drexel University's night program, majoring in engineering, while driving a delivery truck during the day to earn money. Upon finishing school he immediately began his career as an electrical designer.
His first child, a daughter, was born in 1954, followed by two sons. He retired in the early 1980's, after moving permanently to the Jersey shore. He lived in Brigantine before moving to Marmora, where he has lived for 20 years. For the past two months he had been a resident at the Court House Convalescent Center, where, despite his compromised state, the staff said he was always a gentleman.
He loved music, playing and watching sports, cookies, iced tea, CNN, Philadelphia, car rides, his family, dogs, and the bright heat of summer.
Mr. Lipka is survived by: his wife of 62 years, Margaret (Born) Lipka; a daughter, Holly (and William) Lee, of Upper Township; two sons, John (and Elaine) Lipka, of Denver, Col., Tim (and Jill) Lipka, of Frisco, Texas; a sister, Mary Misiewicz, of Philadelphia; and grandchildren, Laura, Billy, Danny, and Andrew Lee, and Kate, Justin, Nina, and Matthew Lipka.
Relatives and friends may call Wednesday from 11 am to 12 noon at the Sudak-Danaher Funeral Home, 815 Washington St., Cape May, followed by religious services at 12 noon. Burial will take place in the Cape May County Veterans cemetery, Cape May Court House.
Donations may be made in his memory to: Magnolia Adult Day Care, 144 Magnolia Drive, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.

SHARP SR., DONALD E., "Ducky" 77 - of Millville, died at home unexpectedly on Sunday. Born in Millville, Ducky was a life long resident. He was a Navy veteran of WW 2. Ducky was a retired glass grinder for Wheaton Scientific for over 30 years. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church. Ducky was well known for his contributions to the youth of our community, throughout his life. He spent many years as a member for many Little League and Babe Ruth baseball teams. He was a very active member of the Millville Elks Lodge #580, where he currently served as trustee. Prior to that he has held many different positions within the club. He served on the bingo and house committees, and also was bowling chairman for Elks Youth Week since the start of the event. In 2003, Mr. Sharp was awarded the prestigious, J. Malcolm Beebe Award, for service to youth. In his youth he was the outstanding baseball player and continued his athletic prowess as a avid bowler. He enjoyed clamming, and it was a well known fact he could out clam men 20 years or better his junior. Ducky also enjoyed summer camping with his wife, Jane, and liked to cook and work in his garden. His greatest love was spending time with his grandchildren. He is survived by his wife: Jane; son: Donnie; daughter: Louisa Jane Oliver and her husband, Bill; brother: Thomas Sharp of Texas; sister: Marion Reese; two grandchildren: Austin Sharp and Alexis Oliver., also; brother in law, William J. McLaughlin and wife Ruth.
Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10 am in the Rocap Shannon Memorial Funeral Home, where friends may call Thursday evening from 7-9pm and 9-10am Friday morning in the funeral Home. There will be an Elks Service 6:45 pm Thursday evening in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Greenwood Memorial park. Memorial donations may be made to the Millville Elks Lodge, c/c Youth Programs, 1815 East Broad St., Millville, NJ 08332.

LORENZO, MARY H., 97 - of Somers Point, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2005 at Wesley Manor in Ocean City. Formerly of South Philadelphia, she was the youngest of four children to parents Paul and Josephine Milon. She was formerly employed at the Einstein Medical Center in the newborn care unit, and then spent many years as a manicurist for the Marriott Corp. and John Wanamakers. Mary's passions were her family, music and dancing. She retired in Somers Point 1970.
Predeceased by her husband John Lorenzo, Jr., she is survived by four daughters, Anna L. Young of Linwood and formerly of Philadelphia, Joan L. Hodgins of Hatboro, PA, Mary L. Ventresca of FL & PA, Paula R. Allen of Somers, 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, 11 am at the St. Josephs Church, Somers Point. Friends may call one hour prior, at the church. Burial, Holy Cross cemetery, Mays Landing. Arrangements by the George H. Wimberg Funeral Home. "Keep your eyes on the horizon. See as far as you can see".

JONES, JOHN, 94 - of Whitesboro, died on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at Court House Convalescent Center. He was born in West Palm Beach, FL and lived there and in Connecticut and in Philadelphia before moving here 25 years ago. He formerly worked for Radio 101 in Philadelphia and was a truck driver for the Teamsters. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Whitesboro.
Mr. Jones is survived by his longtime friend and caregiver, Audrey Lackey; and his nephews and nieces, William Bates of Sterling Heights, MI, Shawn Bennett of Mt. Holly, Cindy Bennett of Delran, Elaine Drummond of Philadelphia, Danny Jones of Boynton Beach, FL, Jillian Bennett of Delran, and Candace Bennett of Delran.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2005 at 12:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Whitesboro, where friends may call after 11:00 a.m. Interment will be in Household of Ruth cemetery, Whitesboro. Memorial donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Whitesboro, 8 West Main Street, Whitesboro, NJ 08252.

HOLMES, MARTHA, 86 - of Hammonton, died Sunday in Greenbriar Nursing Center. Born in Salisbury, NC, she lived in Newark before moving to South Jersey. She was an assembly line worker for General Instrument of Newark. Mrs. Holmes is survived by her sister: Mamie Ward of Rahwah, and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 1:00pm at Greenmount cemetery in Hammonton. Arrangements by the Carnesale Funeral Home in Hammonton.
