Hughes, Jr., Donald J.

Donald J. Hughes, Jr., 52 of Cape May Court House, NJ, died on Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at his home. He was born in Abington, PA, and lived in Cape May County most of his life. He was a driver for Action Supply, and had served in the US Marines during the Vietnam War. He had been a member of Cape May Court House Kiwanis Club.

He enjoyed being a loving husband to his wife, Diane; a loving father to his children: Brian S. and Michele, Kori and Gregory Cirillo, and Erin R. Hughes and Nick McCaraher, all of Cape May Court House; and enjoyed being "Pop-Pop" to Evan, Paige, Tyler, Brian, and Brandon. He is also survived by his mother, Frances of Kennett Square, PA; his sisters and brothers: Sandy and Bob Hickey; Roy "Buddy" and Rose; Kevin and Linda of Kennett Square, PA, and Barbara of Baltimore, MD; and his faithful dog: "Honey".

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, April 21, 2003, at 11:00 AM at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Av., Cape May Court House, NJ, where friends may call at 10:00 AM. Interment will be private. Memorials may be made to the family at 305 Steel Rd., Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.

Hewett, John W.

John W. "Pete" Hewett, 79, of Rio Grande, died on Friday, February 8, 2002 at Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia. He was born in Philadelphia and was a lifetime resident of this area. He was the owner of John W. Hewett Plumbing and Heating. He volunteered three years to the Navy in World War II, serving in both Europe and the Pacific. He was a member of Wildwood Golf and Country Club and VFW Post 3509 of Wildwood. He was a devoted husband and father.

Mr. Hewett is survived by his wife of sixty years, Sylvia (nee Kajander); his sons, John W. Hewett, Jr. of North Cape May, and William Hewett of Rio Grande; his brother, Frederick Hewett of New Smyrna Beach, FL; his nieces, Nancy K. Minarik of Clermont, Francine Baglia of Virginia, and Judy Van Zant of Media, PA; one grandson; and one great granddaughter.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 12 at 11:00 AM at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, where friends may call after 10:00 AM. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans cemetery, Cape May Court House. Memorial donations may be to the First Baptist Church, 101 South Main Street, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.

Hill, D. James

D. JAMES HILL of Medford, NJ, went home to be with the Lord Friday, January 3, 2004 at the Virtua Health & Rehab Center in Mt. Holly, NJ. He was 80 years of age. Born in Colchester, VT, he resided in Medford for the past 18 yrs. moving there from Harrisburg, PA. He is the son of the late Delmer J. and Mary Ellen Hill. A Ret. Architect he owned and operated Vanguard Hill, Inc. in Medford, NJ. As an architect he was on the cutting edge of design in the 1950's and was involved in the manufacturing of affordable housing and development of patents to reduce the cost of manufacturing. An avid follower of National and International politics, he was the Director of ACES and ran for Congress in 1994. He was also a Veteran of WWII serving with the Army Air Corp as a 1st Lt. where he was a Flight Instructor and C-46 Pilot flying in the China-Burma-India Theatre. He also served in the Vt. National Guard and enjoyed bird watching and writing. He is the beloved husband of 40 yrs. of Pat (Nee Caister) Hill and the loving father of Shawn Hill of W. Huntington, VT, Dr. Scot Hill of NYC, NY, Bard Hill and his wife Judy of Richmond, VT, Della J. Freeman and her husband Pierre and Laura D. Wiener and her husband Jimmy all of Bakersfield, CA and Rachael A. Flynn and her husband Michael of Abington, PA. He is also survived by his Grandchildren Scout & Seth Hill, Claire, Oliver, Anton, Tess & Sophie Freeman, Kevin & Allison Wiener and Julian & Brent Flynn and his sister Virginia La Pointe of West Palm Beach, FL and many nieces and nephews. He is the brother of the late Mary Arthur. Relatives and friends are invited to the viewing on Tuesday 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the BRADLEY & STOW FUNERAL HOME 127 Medford-Mt. Holly Rd. Medford, NJ (Rt. 541), where a Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday at 8:00 PM. Interment will be private in the South Hero Village cemetery in South Hero, VT. In Lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family requests memorial donations to the Vermont Assoc. for Retarded Citizens, 346 Shelburne Rd. Burlington, VT 05401.

Hinchliffe, Harold "Jay"

Harold "Jay" Hinchliffe, 65, of South Seaville, died on Sunday, September 1, 2002, at his home. He was born in Philadelphia, and lived here since 1954. He was a retired maintenance employee for the Garden State Parkway. He was a member of the South Dennis United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Helen M. nee Hickman; a son: Douglass J. and his wife, Marcella of Las Cruces, NM; a daughter, Sharon M. Lilla and her husband, Terry of Woodbine; a sister: Janet Jones of Quakertown, PA. He was preceded in death by a sister, Barbara Lang.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2002, at 11:00 AM at the South Dennis United Methodist Church, Rte. 47, South Dennis, where friends may call at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in Union cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Church in his memory.

Hinkson, Mary

On 8/31/02 of Pennsauken. Age 90. Survived by two daughters, Faye Lafayette, and Rose Staats. Services private. Arrangements by the Bradley Funeral Home, Marlton.

Hoffman, L. Viola

L. Viola Hoffman, 94, of Rio Grande, passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2003 at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital. She was born in Philadelphia, PA and was a lifetime resident of Wildwood Crest and Rio Grande. She was a member of Rio Grande Bible Church and the Ladies Aide at the church. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Rio Grande Fire Company, the Mother Singers, the Order of the Eastern Star, and a Cub Scout Leader. She was an avid square dancer and taught many people how to square dance. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting, and donated many hats, blankets, and sweaters to area civic groups.

Mrs. Hoffman is survived by her daughter, Nancy Simpkins of Cape May Court House; her son, Richard Edward Hoffman of Palm Springs, FL; her brother, Melvin Campbell; her sisters, Dorothy Bransfield, Thelma Franco, and Marion Church; her three grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Edward Hoffman on June 15, 1977.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 12, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, where relatives and friends may call after 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in Rio Grande cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Rio Grande Bible Church, 102 Teal Road, Rio Grande, NJ 08242 or the Rio Grande Rescue Squad, 603 Maryland Avenue, Rio Grande, NJ 08242.

Hoke, Jean Louise Hoke

Jean Louise Thomas Hoke, age 76, a former resident of Cape May Court House and Stone Harbor died on January 27, 2004 in Moorestown, NJ.

Jean was born on Easter Sunday April 17, 1927 in Philadelphia to Constance Verweyde Thomas and Quentin Thomas. She graduated from Frankford High School in 1945 and Penn State University in 1949 with a Bachelors Degree in Education.

Jean is survived by two children and their spouses, David N. and Judie Hoke of Seaville, NJ and Toni and Tom Guckert of Texas; A sister Constance Sands of Fort Meyers Florida; 5 grandchildren: David Hoke, Matthew Hoke, Carolyn Hoke, Nicole Guckert and Lauren Guckert ;and 7 nephews Jeff Sands, Stephen Sands, Carl Gunther, John Gunther, Robert Gunther, David Gunther and Kahlil Gunther. She is predeceased by her former husband David M. Hoke and her sister ShirleyAnne Gunther.

Jean loved children and teaching. She taught at Idledale Colorado, Elementary school, Rancocas Friends Nursery School and Westampton Elementary School. Her times with her children and school children were her happiest.

She will be remembered by her family, friends and students as one who loved literature, art and music and loved sharing it with them. She was a complex and loving person who will be greatly missed by those she left behind.

Funeral services will be held at 3pm Friday, January 30, at Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Ave., Cape May Court House. Interment will follow at the Union cemetery, South Dennis.

Holmes, Rosalie Hatcher

HOLMES, ROSALIE HATCHER HALL, 88, of Galloway Township, passed away on Thursday, July 19, 2001 at Alterra Wynwood of Galloway. She was born in Newark and had lived in Galloway Township for many years. Rosalie attended Egg Harbor City Elementary and High Schools. She graduated from New Jersey Normal School at Newark and the University of Pennsylvania School of Education with a Bachelors Degree and received her Masters Degree at Penn State University. She taught school in Egg Harbor City and Philadelphia, retiring from Kensington High School as a high school counselor. Rosalie played the organ for Macedonia Baptist Church from the age of 12 to high school graduation. She served on the Board of Assistance and the Planning Board of Galloway Township, Secretary of the Egg Harbor Teachers Association, President of the Block Club of Philadelphia, Secretary of the Community Club of Yeadon, PA, President of the Flower Club of Mount Sinai Church of Yeadon, PA, member of Business and Professional Women's Club of Philadelphia and Phi Delta Kappa Sorority. Upon retiring, Rosalie became an Alumni Secondary School Network of the University of Pennsylvania Counselor to recruit students in the Atlantic County community. She and her late husband, George, reactivated the South Egg Harbor Civic Club in 1971. She served as President until 1981. Rosalie served for many years on the Atlantic County Board of Elections of the Historical Society of Galloway and Secretary of Rutgers Cooperative Extension of Atlantic County, U.S. Department of Agriculture. She was a member of the South Egg Harbor Community of Friends, the Atlantic City Branch of the Association of College Women and a life member of Betty Bacharach Rehabilitation Hospital and the South Egg Harbor Civic Club. Rosalie was also a member of the Tinsel Club Craft Group, a Sunday School teacher and Financial Secretary of Macedonia Baptist Church. Rosalie played the organ at the opening of Convention Hall in Atlantic City for the 1000-voice choir of the Halleluia Chorus of Atlantic County. Rosalie is survived by her sister-in-law, Constance Hatcher and a host of nieces, nephews and her many dear friends. A viewing will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Friday, July 27, 2001 at Wimberg Funeral Home, 400 Liverpool Avenue, Egg Harbor City (609-965-0357), where funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 27, 2001. Interment will follow at Egg Harbor City cemetery.

Hopewell, Calvin J.

Calvin J. Hopewell of Williamstown died Thursday at the Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Washington Twp. Age 79 years.

Mr. Hopewell was born in Ridge, MD and formerly of Phila., PA. He has been a resident of Williamstown the past 21 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Church in Williamstown.

Beloved husband of Eloise (nee Pruitt). Dear brother of sister Marilyn Hopewell, Anna Hopewell Washington, and Gilbert Hopewell. Predeceased by his parents Benedict and Lillia Hopewell and sisters, Sister Mary Richard, Edna Hopewell Smith, Sadie Hopewell Chase and brother Richard Hopewell.

Funeral services will be held Friday 11AM at the Bell-Hennessy Funeral Home, 420 S. Main St., Williamstown, where a viewing will be held one hour prior and Saturday 10AM with a viewing one hour prior at St. Peter Claver Church, Ridge, MD. Interment church cemetery.

Hess, Nellie

Nellie Hess, 84, of Belleplain, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2003. She was born in Woodbine to the late Michael and Frances (Pawlek) Kubiak and was a lifetime resident of this area. She was a member of St. Casimir's Church in Woodbine. She worked as a seamstress at Feit's Clothing in Woodbine. She enjoyed gardening and homemaking.

She is survived by her daughter, Doris Omeluk and her husband, Jerry of South Seaville; and her sister, Helen Noblett of Millville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward in 1984.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 30, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, where a viewing will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the service. Interment will be in Union cemetery, South Dennis. Memorial donations may be made to the Belleplain Rescue Squad or the Kennedy Hospital Hospice, Chapel and Cooper Landing Road, Cherry Hill, NJ 08002.

HAYS, Elsie Hempe

On June 2, 2004, of the Fountains in Atco. Formerly of Ocean City. Age 91. Beloved wife of the late George R. Hays, Jr. Loving mother of George R. Hays, III of Albany, GA. Devoted grandmother of Clifford Hays of Galena, KS and great grandmother of Hannah E. Hays, also of Galena, KS. Dear sister of Winifred Vokoun of Mineola, NY. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Hays was an administrator at the Federal Aviation Adminstration base in Pomona. Heald, Kevin J.

Kevin J. Heald, passed away Suddenly on Wednesday, March 10th, 2004 in Shamong, NJ. He was 22 yrs. of age. Born in Marlton, NJ, he is the Beloved son of John A. and Ruth Heald and has lived in Medford for the entire life. A graduate of Shawnee High School, class of 1998 he went on to receive his BS in Psychology in 2003 from Elon University in Elon, NC. In addition to his parents he is survived by his brothers Stephen, Alexander and Mason all of Medford, NJ. Funeral services were held at the BRADLEY & STOW FUNERAL HOME 127 Medford-Mt. Holly Rd. (Rt. 541) Medford, NJ, 609-953-7600. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. Hecht, Dr. Sylvester J. "Joe"

Dr. Sylvester J. Hecht of Asbury Park died March 2, 2004 in Scottsdale, AZ. Dr. Hecht, a University of Pennsylvania graduate, was a practicing orthodontist in Monmouth County since 1946. He was a Diplomat of The American Board of Orthodontists; a Fellow of The International College of Dentists; staff member and former Director of the Orthodontic Service at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. He had memberships in the American Association of Orthodontist, American Dental Association, New Jersey Dental Association, Monmouth and Ocean County Dental Society, of which he was past-president; American Cleft Palate Association, American Society of Dentistry for Children and The Federation Dentaire Internationale. He presented clinical demonstrations before the American Dental Association, the American Association of Orthodontists, the European Society of Orthodontists, and authored numerous articles pertaining to his profession. He served three and one half years of Military service in WWII in New Zealand, Australia, New Guinea and the Philippines, retiring as a Major in 1946. "Joe" as he was affectionately known by his friends was born in Metuchen, NJ and lived his first twenty seven years on a sixty acre farm. He was a communicant of the Unitarian Church. He is survived by his children, Deborah Ann and Robert Alan, both of AZ; and a grandchild, John Matthew Bender.Entombment services were held at Woodbine Mausoleum, Oceanport. A Memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave., corner of Third,Long Branch is in charge of arrangements.

Hedden, Sr., John F.

HEDDEN, John F. Sr. on February 12, 2004 of Vincentown, NJ formerly of Camden, NJ. Age 93. Beloved husband of the late Doris (nee Parsons). Devoted father of John F. Jr. and Frederick Hedden. Loving grandfather of John Charles. Also survived by 2 nephews Raymond and John Brosel. Prior to retirement in 1973, Mr. Hedden was employed as a power supervisor at Merk Inc. in North Wales, PA for over 30 years. He was a United States Army Veteran of WWII and a member of the Merchantville Mason Lodge #119 for over 50 years. Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Saturday from 9:15-10 AM at the Bradley Funeral Home, 601 Rt. 73 South, Marlton. Graveside service will take place at Lakeview Memorial Park in Cinnaminson at 10:45 AM. In lieu of flowers the family would like memorial donations to the Hampton Lakes Emergency, P.O. Box 2009 Vincentown, NJ 08088.
