Denice, Michael A.

Denice, Michael A., - of Cape May Court House passed away on September 2, 2011. Born in East Orange to Angelo and Geraldine (formerly Malanga) Denice, he was raised in Bloomfield and moved to the area after graduating from Glassboro College in 1976. He taught music at Arthur Rann Elementary School in Galloway where he touched so many student's lives. He also worked at the Claridge Casino for 20 years. He performed with various local bands and shared his talent with the members of the United Methodist Church of Absecon.

Michael is survived by his wife of 21 years, Kathleen (formerly Carroll); his brother Nick and his wife Joanne; as well as cousins, nephews, and nieces.

A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 6 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Absecon, 100 Pitney Road, Absecon, NJ 08201. Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Donations may be made in Michael's name to the charity of your choice.

Johnson, Jean Marie

Jean Marie Johnson, of Petersburg, passed away on Friday, September 2, 2011 at her home. She was born in Vineland to the late Adolph and Mary (Yarrish) Filachek and was a lifetime resident of this area. She was a member of St. Casimir's Church. She liked going to the Borgata. Her biggest enjoyment came from spending time with her grandchildren.

Jean is survived by her husband, Edward; her son, Brian Johnson; her daughter and son in law, Karen and Joe Moyer; her sisters, Dorothy (George) Spalding and Kathy Filachek; her sister in law, Edie Filachek; her grandchildren, Jordan and Jonathan; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Joe Filachek.

Funeral Mass will be said on Wednesday, September 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Casimir's Church, 304 Clay Street, Woodbine, where visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Interment will be in Seaside cemetery, Palermo. Memorial donations may be made for Cancer Treatment Centers of America through The Gateway for Cancer Research, 1336 Basswood Rd., Schaumburg, IL 60173.

E. Louise Pierce

Fairfield Twp Resident
E. Louise Pierce (nee Robinson), 60, of Fairfield Township died late Sunday evening May 12, 2002 at her home where she had been in declining health. The wife of Leslie H. Pierce, she was born in Fairton and was the daughter of the late Albert B. and Evelyn (nee Pierce) Robinson. Mrs. Pierce had been an area resident all her life and had lived at her current address for the last twenty-five years. For the last thirty years, Mrs. Pierce was employed by the Cumberland County Board of Social Services and had worked as a clerk, typist and supervisor. In addition, she had been the secretary to George Rocap and also Gregory Curliss. Prior to working for social services, she was employed for ten years at Seibel and Stern in Bridgeton. A 1960 graduate of Bridgeton High School, she grew up attending the Fordville Methodist Church and most recently had visited the Church of God of Prophecy in Bridgeton. She enjoyed vacationing in Wildwood where she spent two weeks in the spring and two weeks in the summer. In addition, she loved spending time with her family and grandchildren and taking long rides in the car. In addition to he husband, she is survived by one son, Leslie Scott Pierce Sr. of Vineland, four grandchildren, Leslie Jr., Victoria, Julia and Isaiah Pierce, one sister, Carol Green of Toms River, two daughters-in-law, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon May 15th at 2 o’clock at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton with Bishop Capron of the Church of God of Prophecy in Bridgeton officiating. The interment will be made at Cedar Hill cemetery in Hopewell Township. Friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday afternoon one hour prior to the services.

Richard S. Nakai

Hopewell Twp Resident
Richard S. Nakai, 91, of Hopewell Township died unexpectedly at home Wednesday morning May 15, 2002. The husband of the late Ichiyo (nee Kameshige) Nakai, who died in 1998, he was the son of the late Kachi and Aki Imasaki Nakai. He was born in Isleton, CA and also lived in Japan in his youth. Mr. Nakai moved to Southern New Jersey in 1947 and lived in Seabrook for several years. For the last twenty-two years he made his home with his daughter, Akemi Davidson, at the Hopewell address. Mr. Nakai worked at Seabrook Farms when he first moved to the area and later served at a custodian at Seabrook School for twenty-one years before retiring. He was a member of the Seabrook Chapter of the Japanese American Citizens League and he loved gardening and reading. He is survived by one daughter, Akemi Davidson, two sons, Chet M. Nakai of Hopewell Township, Hideaki “Richard” Nakai of Bangor, ME and Kenji Nakai of Herndon, VA, ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren and one sister, Harue Kawamoto of California. He was predeceased by two sisters, Hanae Hatakawama and Misao Nakaoka. Private memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton. The interment will be made at Overlook cemetery in Bridgeton. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Seabrook Educational and Cultural Center, PO Box 5041, Seabrook, N.J. 08302 or to the Seabrook Chapter JACL, c/o Sharon Yoshida, 57 Mallard Lane, Bridgeton, N.J. 08302.

William C. Autrey

Millville Resident
William C. Autrey, 74, of Millville died Thursday morning May 16, 2002 at Renaissance Nursing Center in Bridgeton where he had been a resident for the last two years. Born in Celo, North Carolina, he was the son of the late Walter and Dorothy Caroway Autrey. Raised in North Carolina, he had been a Millville resident for most of his adult life. He lived on Buck Street for several years and later with Paul Hand and his family in Millville before entering the nursing center two years ago. Mr. Autrey was employed in the textile industry for several years and later was a self-employed vendor at the “U-Sell Flea Market” on Delsea Drive in Vineland. He was a US Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and served overseas in the US Air Force as a Staff Sergeant during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Post #15031 Veterans of Foreign Wars of Trenton and was a member of the Textile Workers Union. He is survived by one sister, Flossie McMahan of Cornelia, GA, thee brothers, Jay Dee Autrey of Burnsville, NC, Floyd Autrey of Marion, NC and James Autrey of Waynesvuille, NC, several nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Also surviving are member of the Paul Hand family of Millville who helped care for him. Cremation will take place at the Laurel Lawn Crematory in Upper Deerfield Township. Entombment of the cremated remains will take place at a later date at Arlington National cemetery in Arlington, VA. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton.

Walter Lesche

Walter Lesche, 76, of Upper Deerfield Township died Thursday morning May 23, 2002 at S.J. Hospital – Bridgeton where he had been a patient for the last ten days. The husband of Margarete Hedwig Lesche (nee Vogt), who died in January of 2001, he was born in Klein Krichen, Selesia, Germany and was the son of the late Hermann and Frieda Bardu Lesche. Mr. Lesche moved to the United States from Germany in March of 1952 and after living in Seabrook for two years moved to his current address in 1954. A blacksmith by trade while a resident of Germany, Mr. Lesche had served in the German Army. He worked at Seabrook Farms until 1964. While working at Seabrook Farms he established Walt’s Welding, a business he operated from the garage at his home. In 1964 he and his late wife founded WW Manufacturing Company, Inc. on Rosenhayn Avenue in Bridgeton. For many years he had specialized in the design and manufacture of tools for the landscaping and nursery business. He received a patent for one of his original spade designs. Mr. Lesche was a member of the German Congregation of the Northville Lutheran Church. During the 1980s he did quite a bit of oil painting and at one time he enjoyed kayaking. Survivors included two daughters, Ingrid S. Hawk and Debra M. Wiggins both of Upper Deerfield Township, two sons, Peter W. Lesche of Longwood, FL and George R. Lesche of Upper Deerfield Township, eight grandchildren, Christopher Hawk Sr., Stefanie Modri, Jennifer Lesche, George Lesche, Stephen Lesche, Brandon Lesche, Michael McVey and Margaret Wiggins, two great grandchildren, Brittany Hawk and Christopher Hawk Jr. and two sisters, Ilse Kunstin and Hildegard Kadawy both of Hattorf, Germany and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon May 25th at 2 o’clock at the Northville Lutheran Church, Old Burlington Road in Upper Deerfield Township. Friends will be received at the Northville Lutheran Church on Saturday afternoon one hour prior to the services. Pastor Dale R. Johnston of St. John’s First Evangelical Lutheran Church will officiate. Graveside services will follow the church service at Laurel Lawn cemetery in Upper Deerfield Township. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Lesche’s memory to the Seabrook Educational and Cultural Center, PO Box 5041, Seabrook, N.J. 08302 or to the German Congregation of the Northville Lutheran Church, c/o Mr. Anthony Mohr, 181 Big Oak Road, Bridgeton, N.J. 08302. Stephen E. Foytik Jr.

Bridgeton Resident
Stephen E. Foytik Jr., 52, of Bridgeton died Thursday afternoon May 23, 2002 at his home following an extended illness. A lifelong Bridgeton area resident, he was born in Philadelphia and was the son of the late Stephen E. Sr. and Catherine M. “Cass” (nee Mitchell) Foytik. He lived in Hopewell Township for several years and for the past few years had been a resident of Bridgeton. He was employed until his health failed at Durand Glass in Millville. Before that he had worked at the Owens-Illinois Glass Company, Val Mode Lingerie and Inscon Cable all in Bridgeton. He was a 1968 graduate of Bridgeton High School and had served in the US Navy aboard the USS John F. Kennedy during the Vietnam Era. He attended the St. Teresa of Avila R.C. Church. Survivors include one brother, Michael J. Foytik of Hopewell Township, two sisters, Christine Berndt of Salina, Kansas and Constance Elliott of Dover, DE and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 o’clock Saturday morning May 25th at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton. Rev. Monsignor Stanley Kloskowski will officiate. The interment will be made at the Cumberland County Veteran’s cemetery in Hopewell Township. Friends will be received at the funeral home Saturday morning one hour prior to the services. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Foytik’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 1400 W. Landis Avenue, Vineland, N.J. 08360.

Robert M. McClane

Pennsville Resident
Robert M. McClane, 58, of Pennsville and formerly of Bridgeton and Turnersville died early Friday morning May 24, 2002 at the Veterans Hospital in Elsmere, Delaware. He had been a hospital patient since January. Born in Philadelphia, PA he was the son of Llillian (nee McHugh) McClane Downey of Philadelphia and the late Ronald McClane. He was predeceased by his stepfather, John L. Downey, who had raised him. Mr. McClane was the husband of Linda G. Moody-McClane and was raised in Philadelphia and lived in Turnersville and also in Bridgeton for several years before moving to Pennsville five years ago. He worked most recently for Sunoco in Pennsville and before that was employed by Sunny Slope Orchards in Bridgeton. He also worked at the Clement-Pappas Company in Cedarville for thirteen years and before that for Mrs. Paul’s in Turnersville for twenty-five years. Mr. McClane was a US Army Veteran of the Vietnam Era. He served briefly in Vietnam and in Alaska before his discharge. He was a member of the Italian American Civic Club of Bridgeton and VFW Post #152 of Pennsville. In addition, he loved to play golf and often played at the Cohanzick Country Club in Fairfield Township and enjoyed spending time with his two beloved dogs Bitsy and Chili. In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by two sisters, Donna Fife and Kathleen Wharton both of Philadelphia, three brothers, Thomas McClane and Ronald McClane Jr. both of Philadelphia and John L. Downey Jr. of Springfield, PA and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his only daughter, Robin McClane in 1984. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon May 28th at 2 o’clock at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton. The interment will be made at Laurel Lawn cemetery in Upper Deerfield Township. Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday afternoon between 12:30 and 2. Luther Clinton Snodgrass

Former Bridgeton Resident
Luther Clinton Snodgrass, 76, of Wardensville, West Virginia and formerly of Bridgeton died Friday evening May 24, 2002 at Winchester Medical Center in Winchester, VA where he had been a patient for four days. He had been sick for the last two years. Mr. Snodgrass had been a Bridgeton resident for many years and for the last seven years had lived in Wardensville. A native of West Virginia, he was born in Davis Creek and was the son of the late Ernest and Roxie Mallary Snodgrass. He was predeceased by his wife Ethel (nee Justice) Snodgrass, who died in 1992. While a resident of Bridgeton, Mr. Snodgrass lived on American Avenue for several years. He was originally employed by the railroad in West Virginia and worked in the coalmines before moving to Southern New Jersey in 1957. He was employed at Seabrook Farms, the PJ Ritter Company and Demaio’s Food Market. His last place of employment before retiring was as at Kimble Glass in Vineland for twenty-three years. He was a US Army Veteran of World War II and a member of the American Legion of West Virginia. Mr. Snodgrass was an outdoorsman and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the National Rifle Association. He is survived by five daughters, Patricia Dare and her husband Bob with whom he resided, Dreama May and her husband Pete of Upper Deerfield Township, Brenda Kilpatrick and her companion Roy Rowe of Upper Deerfield Township, Marcella Davenport and her husband Albert of Hopewell Township and Rita DeMasse and her husband Bob of Stow Creek Twp., two sons, Sherill Lee Snodgrass and his wife Liz of Martinsburg, WVA and Larry Snodgrass and his wife Vickie of Elmer, twenty-nine grandchildren and twenty-nine great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Eddie Snodgrass in 1985, four brothers and three sisters. Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon May 29th at 2 o’clock at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton with Pastor David L. Strope of the West Park United Methodist Church officiating. The interment will be made at Laurel Lawn cemetery in Upper Deerfield Township. Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday evening after 7 o’clock. Memorial contributions may be made for those who desire to the American Cancer Society, 1400 W. Landis Avenue, Vineland, N.J. 08360.

Jennie G. Panichelli

Vineland Resident
Jennie G. Panichelli (nee Borgese), 90, of Vineland and formerly of Bridgeton died Friday evening May 24, 2002 at Millville Center – Genesis Elder Care in Millville. She had been a hospital patient at S.J. Hospital – Bridgeton for three weeks and a patient at the Millville Center for the last eleven days. The wife of the late Michael G. Panichelli Sr., who died in 1980, she was born in Chester, PA and was the daughter of the late Joseph and Concetta Lombardo Borgese. A longtime Bridgeton, resident she lived at Oakview Heights in Bridgeton for the last twenty-one years and at Spring Oak assisted living facility in Vineland for the last year. She also lived on Ridge Avenue in Bridgeton for several years. Mrs. Panichelli was a homemaker all her life and for brief periods worked at the M.C. Schrank Company in Bridgeton and also at the hosiery mill on Water Street in Bridgeton. She was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Bridgeton and she was an avid gardening. She enjoyed taking care of her yard. She is survived by one son, Pasqual M. “Pat” Panichelli Sr. and his wife Sandi of Vineland, four grandchildren, Michelle Hayes, Valerie Gentile, Pasqual “Pat” Panichelli Jr. and Angela Feldmann, six great grandchildren Marrisha Gentile, Andrew Panichelli, Alyssa and Krista Feldmann and Brad and Jake Hayes, one sister, Katherine Cenname of Maryland, one brother, Phillip Borgese of Bridgeton and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Michael G. Panichelli Jr. in 1985, two great grandchildren, Joseph Jr. and Michelle Hayes, brothers William “Shadow” Borgese, Sam Borgese and infant brothers Joseph Borgese Jr. and Joseph Borgese III and one sister, Mildred Harris. The funeral will originate at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton at 10:30 Thursday morning May 30th and will be followed by an 11 o’clock Funeral Liturgy at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 312 N. Pearl St., Bridgeton. The interment will be made at St. Mary’s cemetery in Bridgeton. Friends will be received at the funeral home Thursday morning from 9:30 and 10:30. Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Panichelli’s memory to the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 312 N. Pearl St., Bridgeton, N.J. 08302.

Martha Ewing Watson

Martha E. (nee Ewing) Watson, 74, of Hopewell Township died Tuesday morning May 28, 2002 at her home following a lengthy illness. She had been under hospice care for the last five months. Predeceased by her husband, Harry J. Watson in 1968, she was born in Bridgeton and had been a lifelong resident of the Bridgeton area. She lived on Sheppards Mill Road and since 1957 had lived at her current address. She was the daughter of the late Alfred “Fred” and Avis Carter Ewing. Mrs. Watson was a graduate of Bridgeton High School with the Class of 1946 and had worked for twelve years until retiring in 1992 as a trimmer at Val Mode Lingerie in Bridgeton. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Bridgeton. Survivors include one daughter, Avis Opperman of Bridgeton, four sons, Barry John Watson at home, Rev. Alfred Howell Watson of Davidson, MD, Kevin Jay Watson of Egg Harbor Twp. and Brian A. Watson of Ayden, NC, seven grandchildren, Angela, Tammy, Alison, Candi, Christopher, Dustin and Joshua, three great grandchildren, Caeleb, Joey and Kaitlin and one sister, Hazel Brooks of Hopewell Township. She was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Atkinson and a brother, William Ewing. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon June 1st at 2 o’clock at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton. Mrs. Watson’s brother, Rev. Alfred H. Watson and Rev. Caesar Spriano of the Bridgeton Seventh Day Adventist Church will officiate. The interment will be made at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Township. Friends will be received at the funeral home Saturday afternoon one hour prior to the services.

Barbara Branch Limosino

Bridgeton Resident
Barbara Branch Limosino, 50, of Upper Deerfield Township died unexpectedly Tuesday morning May 28, 2002 at her home. The wife of Joseph T. Limosino Jr., she was born in Bridgeton and was the daughter of Edith Mitchell and her husband Howard of Shiloh and the daughter of the late Everist Branch, who died in 1959. A lifelong resident of Bridgeton, Barbara was a 1970 graduate of Bridgeton High School and also graduated from the Bridgeton Hospital School of Radiology. Since 1974 she had worked at the Imaging Center of South Jersey Health System at the professional center in Upper Deerfield Township. She had been a supervisor. She was a member of the Cohansey Baptist Church and the American Society of Radiologic Technologists. She enjoyed reading, working in her flower garden and spending time with her family. In addition to her husband, mother and stepfather, she is survived by two daughters, Beth Ann Limosino of Hoboken and Amy Lynn Limosino at home, two sisters, Debra S. Becker of Fairton and Donna K. Tymkow of Hopewell Township and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by a sister, Carol Price in 1984. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning June 1st at 11 o’clock at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton. Rev. Everett Dickinson and Rev. R. Bruce Johnson of the Cohansey Baptist Church will officiate. The burial will be made at the Cohansey Baptist cemetery in Roadstown. Friends will be received at the funeral home Saturday morning from 9 until 11. Memorial contributions may be made in Barbara’s name to the NJ State Organization of Cystic Fibrosis, PO Box 3648, Wayne, N.J. 07474.

Giacomo DiLisi

Former Bridgeton Resident
Giacomo DiLisi, 74, a former resident of Bridgeton died Wednesday May 22, 2002 at his residence in his hometown of Palermo, Sicily, Italy. While in pursuit of the “American Dream” Mr. DiLisi spent several years between this country and Italy before settling in Bridgeton in 1979. He lived at the Indian Run Apartments in Bridgeton and later on Indian Avenue while a Bridgeton resident. He and his wife and sons purchased the Pizza Plaza Restaurant at Carll’s Corner in Upper Deerfield Township. The restaurant remained under his supervision until he and his beloved wife returned to Palermo in 1991. He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Concetta, two sons, Croce of Medford and Salvatore of Upper Deerfield Township and five grandchildren, Alessandra, 19, Daneila, 16, and Giacomo, 14, all of Medford and Giacomo, 13, and Valeria, 10 both of Upper Deerfield Township. Funeral services were held in his hometown of Palermo on May 24th.

Ida M. Wayrynen

Ida M. Wayrynen (nee Pierce), 83, of Hopewell Township died Wednesday morning May 29, 2002 at The Cumberland Manor in Hopewell Township where she had been a patient for the last two and a half years. Predeceased by her husband, Richard J. Wayrynen in 1978, she was born in Leesburg and was the daughter of the late Jacob and Sara McClain Pierce. A longtime area resident, Mrs. Wayrynen was a resident of Barretts Run Road in Hopewell Township for thirty-three years before entering the nursing home. Mrs. Wayrynen was a homemaker and member of the Hopewell Crest Chapel. She had several types of collections and enjoyed gardening and canning vegetables. She is survived by one daughter, Anna S. Uhland and her husband Albert of Upper Deerfield Township, one son, John R. Wayrynen and his wife Diane of Hammonton, one son in law, John Todd of Fairton, six grandchildren, Mark and Trisha Wayrynen, Christie Gayda and Gary P., Gregory A. and Scott A. Uhland, nine great grandchildren and one brother, Roscoe Pearce of Vineland. Funeral services will be held at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon June 4th at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton. Rev. Leslie V. Turner will officiate. The interment will be made at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Township. Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday afternoon between 1 and 2.
