Jennie A. LoBiondo

Active Community Volunteer
Jennie A. LoBiondo (nee Battaglia), 84, of Lewes, DE and formerly of Rosenhayn quietly passed away Wednesday morning July 16, 2003 at Churchman’s Village Nursing Home in Newark, DE.

The fifty-five year wife of the late Joseph J. LoBiondo, who died in 1997, she was born in Hammonton and was the daughter of the late Dominic and Josephine (nee LaRosa) Battaglia.

Upon graduation from high school she attended Glassboro State College and earned her certification as a substitute teacher.

She later worked as a substitute teacher at Deerfield Township School for many years.

Mrs. LoBiondo was a devoted homemaker who spent her free time volunteering in the community.

She volunteered as part of the Bridgeton Hospital Ladies Auxiliary taking care of the financial records at the hospital gift shop.

An active member of St. Mary’s R.C. Church in Rosenhayn, she would coordinate and work at the church’s annual spaghetti dinner as well as the Rosenhayn Volunteer Fire Department annual chicken barbeque.

Mrs. LoBiondo was also an active member of the Catholic Chonitus and the Bridgeton Civic Club.

She is survived by one son, Joseph A. LoBiondo and his wife Jan of Lewes, DE, three grandsons, Joseph LoBiondo and his wife Christine of Penrose, CO, Michael LoBiondo of Springfield, PA and Jon LoBiondo and his wife Stephanie of Lewes, DE, two granddaughters, Jennifer Porter and her husband Brad of Newark, DE and Jodie Daminger and her husband Ray of Westminster, MD, six great grandchildren, Bryan and Braden Porter, David, Liz, Jessica and Nicholas LoBiondo and by one brother Dick Battaglia of Hammonton.

A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated Friday, July 18th at 10:30 A.M. at St. Mary’s R.C. Church, 732 Morton Avenue, Rosenhayn.

The interment will be made at St. Mary’s cemetery in Rosenhayn.

Friends will be received at the church Friday morning one hour prior to the services.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. LoBiondo’s memory to St. Mary’s R.C. Church, 732 Morton Avenue, Rosenhayn NJ 08352

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton.

Carl A. Franzen

World War II Veteran
Carl A. Franzen, 77, of Vineland and formerly of Upper Deerfield Township died Thursday afternoon July 17, 2003 at S.J. Hospital – Newcomb in Vineland where he had been a patient for two days.

He had been in declining health for the last two years.

The husband of Rena E. (nee Kilpatrick) Franzen, he was born in Elmer and was the son of the late Peter and Anna John Franzen.

Mr. Franzen had been a Vineland resident for the last five years and prior to that lived in Upper Deerfield Township for twenty-seven years.

He attended Bridgeton High School with the class of 1945 and entered the US Army and served with the Third Infantry Regiment in Badenhausen, Germany.

He was a meat cutter all his life and was first employed by Gaskills in Elmer and later worked at both ACME markets and Pantry Pride as a butcher and meat cutter.

For ten years he worked in a similar capacity at the Golden Nugget Casino and Hotel in Atlantic City (now the Hilton) until retiring in 1992.

Mr. Franzen was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Bridgeton and had been a church trustee and usher.

He was a member of Evening Star Lodge #97 F & A.M. of Cedarville.

He was an accomplished wood worker and over the years helped to build two of his own homes and his in-law’s house.

In addition, he was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing at courses across southern New Jersey.

In addition to his wife of nearly fifty-three years, he is survived by one son, Fred C. Franzen of Gladstone, Missouri, two grandchildren, Kelly and Kristy, four great grandchildren and one brother, Peter Franzen of Myrtle Beach, S.C.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Harry Franzen and two sisters, Theresa Neubauer and Anne Hackett.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon July 22nd at 1 o’clock at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton.

In the absence of his pastor, Rev. Richard E. Sindall, Rev. John Nurnberger of the First Presbyterian Church of Millville will officiate.

The interment will be made at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Township.

Friends will be received at the funeral home Tuesday afternoon from 12 until 1.

Alvin E. Pedrick

Retired Construction Worker

Alvin E. Pedrick, 82, of Bridgeton died Friday morning July 18, 2003 at S.J. Hospital – Bridgeton.

He had been in declining health for the past several months.

A lifelong Bridgeton resident, he had lived at his current address since 1945.

He was the son of the late Elbert and Ada Fox Pedrick and the husband of the late Marguerite (nee Kernan) Pedrick, who died in 1986.

He was a 1940 graduate of Bridgeton High School and began working that same year for George Slade Contracting in Bridgeton.

He was a heavy equipment operator and worked in all aspects of the construction business.

He continued to work in a similar capacity for South State, Inc. of Bridgeton until retiring in 1983.

At age fifty he received his pilot’s license and flew for several years and had part ownership in a Cherokee airplane.

He collected trains and was a well skilled clock repairman.

He enjoyed working in his vegetable garden.

Survivors include two sons, Louis E. Pedrick and his wife Peggy of Upper Deerfield Township and Thomas A. Pedrick and his wife Sandra of Roadstown, five grandchildren, Janice Conner and her husband Sean of Alabama, Louis D. Pedrick of Hillsborough, Vicki L. Pedrick of Roadstown, Jane Gandy and her husband Kyle of Philadelphia and Julia Ann Pedrick of Upper Deerfield Twp., two great granddaughters, Abigail and Isabella DiJoseph and one sister, Harriet Henry of Centerton.

He was predeceased by a son, Charles A. Pedrick on May 7th and two brothers, Stanley and Charles Pedrick.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning July 23rd at 10 o’clock at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton.

Pastor Dwight Mikesell of the First Wesleyan Church will officiate.

The interment will be made at Fernwood Memorial Park in Hopewell Township.

Friends will be received at the funeral home Wednesday morning one hour prior to the services.

B. Franklin DeMaris

Woodstown Resident
B. Franklin DeMaris, 84, of Woodstown died at home early Tuesday morning June 4, 2002 after a long illness.

Born in Cedarville, he was the son of the late Roscoe DeMaris and the late Alfra (nee Barnes) DeMaris Hitchner.

A 1935 graduate of Bridgeton High School and a 1945 graduate of Georgetown College (KY), he worked for the P.J. Ritter Company in Bridgeton and Del Monte Foods Corporation in Swedesboro as a chemist and in management.

He was later employed as an inspector for the Cumberland County Health Department before retiring.

He was a member of the Woodstown Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and was a member of the church choir for twenty-eight years.

In addition, Mr. DeMaris was a champion trap shooter, a member of the Quinton Sportsman’s Club, a volunteer for CONTACT of Salem County and a coordinator for the Salem County Meals on Wheels program.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-one years, Helen (nee Maurer) DeMaris, two sons, Brian F. DeMaris and his wife Terri of Ephrata, Pa and Ross T. DeMaris and his wife Kathleen of Mullica Hill and five grandchildren, Brian F., Brandon W., Maria G., Jessica L. and Karlyn M.

A memorial service will be held Thursday June 6th at 12 Noon at the Woodstown Presbyterian Church, Auburn Road, Woodstown.

The church’s pastor, Rev. Robert Richardson will officiate.

The interment will take place at the convenience of the family at Overlook cemetery in Bridgeton.

For those who desire, memorial contributions may be made to Woodstown Presbyterian Church, Auburn Road, Woodstown, N.J. 08098 or to HospiceCare of S.J., 2848 S. Delsea Drive, Vineland, N.J. 08360.

Fanny (Faye) Ciccioli Scull

Bridgeton Resident
Fanny (Faye) Ciccioli Scull, 76, of Bridgeton died Wednesday morning June 5, 2002 at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

She had been hospitalized for the last two weeks in Philadelphia and for two weeks prior to that at S.J. Hospital – Bridgeton.

The wife of William F. Scull Jr., she was born in Smith Mills, PA and was the daughter of the late Alfred and Rose Capitanelli Ciccioli.

Along with her family and several other families, she moved to the Bridgeton area as a small child and later graduated from Bridgeton High School in 1943.

After serving in the US Navy as a “Wave” during World War II she attended beauty school in Philadelphia and became a licensed beautician.

She operated at beauty shop originally from her home on Ridge Avenue and later at her home on Manheim Avenue.

After her retirement she continued to see customers at her current residence.

Mrs. Scull was a member of the Church of the Immaculate Conception and served on the Election Board in Bridgeton for several years.

She enjoyed playing cards and belonged to a card club.

She also loved to go to the casino.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by one son, William F. Scull III of Charlotte, NC, three grandchildren, Erik Adam and Amanda Scull, five sisters, Clementine Fletcher, Flora Lamb and Victoria Comer all of Bridgeton, Susan Ragone of Vineland and Levia Phillips of Bridgeton, two brothers, David Ciccioli of Hopewell Township and Arthur Ciccioli of Upper Deerfield Township, one first cousin, Jules Capitanelli and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara R. Scull in 1979 and a brother, Louis Ciccioli in 1963.

The funeral will originate promptly at 9:15 Saturday morning June 8th at the Freitag Funeral Home, 137 W. Commerce St., Bridgeton and will be followed by a 9:45 Funeral Liturgy at the Church of the Immaculate Conception, 312 N. Pearl St., Bridgeton.

The interment will be made at St. Mary’s cemetery in Bridgeton.

Friends will be received at the funeral home Saturday morning between 8:15 and 9:15.
