Asaoka, Marianne

MARIANNE ASAOKA (Nee Putz) passed away on Friday, February 22, 2002 at the Virtua West Jersey Hospital in Marlton, NJ. She was 70 years of age. Born in Amberg, Germany, she has resided in Mt. Laurel, NJ for the past 43 yrs. She is the wife of the late Yasuo J. Asaoka. She is the beloved mother Joan R. Bahret of East Brunswick, NJ, Evelyn A. Sanson of Alpharetta, GA, Deborah R. DiAngelo of Medford, NJ and Melinda A. Carmichael of Mt. Holly, NJ. She is also survived by her sister Rose Bleicher of Germany, her grandchildren Derek and Stephen Bahret both of Roswell, GA, Michael Asaoka of Sicklerville, NJ, Renee and Rocco DiAngelo both of Westville, NJ and David and Jaclyn Sanson both of Alpharetta, GA and her Great Grandson Cody DiAngelo. She is the mother of the late Jimmy R. Asaoka and the Grandmother of the late James M. Asaoka. Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family. Aschettino, Eleanor Cosentino

Eleanor Cosentino Aschettino age 80 of Long Branch died peacefully on Sunday October 1, 2006 at St. Barnabas Hospice Care Center at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She was born on October 3, 1925 in Long Branch and was the daughter of the late James and Lena Cosentino. For the past 40 years, she has worked at and had been a loved member of the family at San Alfonso Retreat House in Long Branch, where she was the manager of the gift shop and often coordinated special events and functions for the staff and clergy. A caring and compassionate person, she held fast her faith in God. She was always there to help a family member or friend in pain or in need. She never judged anyone, she only asked what she could do to help. Eleanor was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, Long Branch and the Friday Night Card Club. An avid Yankee's fan, she rarely missed watching a game and made several trips to the stadium to cheer on her "boys". A devoted parent and grandparent, she cherished her time with her granddaughters Tara and Meegan, whether sharing a meal, or a shopping spree, or just hearing them recount the events of their day. She took delight in watching the acting career of her grand nephew Jordan Woolley blossom, often telling co workers I have to leave now and watch my Jordie on As The World Turns.

She was predeceased by her husband, Carmen Aschettino in 1989; 3 brothers, Vincent Cosentino, Albert Cosentino, and Clarence Cosentino; and 2 sisters, Angelina Di Fiore and Concetta Ardolino.

Surviving is her son, Carmen Aschettino, Jr and his wife Candice Ross of Highlands; 2 granddaughters, Tara Aschettino and Meegan Aschettino; and a sister, Irene Strollo, West Long Branch.

Relatives and friends may call at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave (corner of third Ave), Long Branch on Tuesday October 3, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm. The Funeral will be on Wednesday at 9:30 am at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am from St Michael's R.C. Church, West End, Long Branch. Interment will follow at Mt Carmel cemetery, West Long Branch. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations in her memory can be made to San Alfonso Retreat House, 755 Ocean Ave, Long Branch, NJ 07740.

Aschettino, Doreene McCleane

Doreene S. McCleane Aschettino, age 61, of Eatontown died Sunday, March 27, 2005 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Newark, she lived in Middletown and Shrewsbury before moving to Eatontown over 30 years ago. She was employed by the Red Bank Regional School District for the past 40 years. She was a parishioner of St Dorothea's Roman Catholic Church, Eatontown. She was active in many clubs and organizations, but her greatest enjoyment came from her 6 nieces and nephews and especially her 12 grandnieces and nephews. She was a caring and giving person who put her family and friends needs before her own. She was predeceased by her parents, Wilfred and Catherine McCleane.

Surviving are 3 sisters, Elizabeth M. Van Wagner, Neptune; Gloria G. Moro, Manalapan; Mary Morley, Netherton, England; 4 nephews, Richard Van Wagner, Ocean; Michael Van Wagner, Neptune; Patrick Van Wagner, Oceanport; Edward Moro, Jr., West Long Branch; 2 nieces, Laura Munn, Monmouth Beach; Gina Crochet, Oceanport; 9 grandnephews, Connor, Cooper, and Ryan Van Wagner, Ocean; Garrett Van Wagner, Oceanport; Michael K. Munn, Monmouth Beach; Joseph, Matthew, and Nicholas Crochet, Oceanport; Garrett Moro, West Long Branch; 3 grandnieces, Brady Munn, Monmouth Beach; Leighton Van Wagner, Oceanport; Ali Moro, West Long Branch; and her long time friend Charlotte Rossi all of whom experienced the richness and generosity of her selfless nature.

She will always be remembered by her many friends and relatives for her generous and giving nature. Visitation will be held at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave. on the corner of Third Ave, Long Branch, on Thursday, March 31, from 2-4, 7-9 pm. Funeral Friday April 1, at 9 am from the funeral home followed by a 10 am Mass at St Dorothea's Church, Eatontown. Interment will be in Mt Olivet cemetery, Middletown.

Ashmore, Howard R.

Howard R. Ashmore, 77, of Swainton, died on Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital. Born in Jersey City, NJ to the late John and Mildred (Menig) Ashmore, he moved from Berkeley Heights to Lower Township 16 years ago before moving to Swainton one year ago. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He worked in sales for American Commercial Equipment in Irvington. He was a member of Port Elizabeth Church of the Nazarene. He enjoyed fishing all of his life. He was a mean chess player and a good card player.

Mr. Ashmore is survived by his wife of 52 years, Carol; his children, Gayle Tompkins of Erma, Gregory Ashmore of Lancaster, OH, and Kathleen Olson of Virginia; his sister, Norma Reyder of Williamsville, NY; eight grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 8, 2005 at 3:00 p.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, where friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans cemetery. Aspelund, Matilda

Matilda Aspelund age 99 of Eatontown died on Wednesday, June 30, 2004 at Gateway Care Center, Eatontown. She was a typist for Insurance Company of North America and Western Electric before retiring in 1956. Born in Jersey City, she had lived in Palisade Park before coming to shore area in 1990. She was predeceased by her husband Holberg Aspelund in 1989. Surviving are 2 nieces, Teresa Giordano, Monmouth Beach, Evelyn Bonanno, Shrewsbury, 8 grand nieces and nephews, 21 great grand nieces and nephews and 1 great great grand niece.

Atella, Dr. Ernest F.

ATELLA, Dr. Ernest F. On January 27th, 2009. Of Mt. Laurel, NJ. Age 78. Beloved husband of fifty five years to Dolores (nee DeLuca). Loving father of Lisa and her husband Jim Press and Ernie and his wife Shelly Atella. Caring grandfather of James Press, Noah Press and Jacob Atella. Ernest will also be missed by many other loving family members, former patients and coworkers. Dr. Atella worked in the medical industry throughout his life and in his later years worked at the Sherwood Family Practice in W. Deptford, Beckett Family Practice in Swedesboro, NJ and more recently he served as a consultant with the Social Security Admin. In Philadelphia, PA. Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Saturday January 31st from 8-9:45 AM at the Bradley Funeral Home, Rt.73 and Evesham Rd., Marlton. Atkinson, Anne Starke

Anne Starke Atkinson, 92, died on Saturday, May 15, 2004, in the Veterans Memorial Home, Vineland, NJ. Born in New York, she has lived in Avalon, NJ as a full time resident since 1973 coming from Roseland, NJ and Ft. Lauderdale, FL. She was an Office Manager for PW Atkinson, Inc. and retired in 1978 after 30 years of service. She was a member of the Roseland Methodist Church and attended Avalon Methodist Church and Wells Presbyterian Church. She was a member of the South Jersey Shell Club.

She is survived by her son: Peter W. of Blue Bell, PA; daughters: Lorraine A. Smart and Nancy A. Alex both of Roseland, NJ; twelve grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, May 19, at the Cape May County Veterans cemetery, Cape May Court House, NJ. There is no calling time. Memorials may be made to the Avalon Volunteer Ambulance Corps, PO Box 233, Avalon, NJ 08202.

Attardi, Michael J.

Michael J. Attardi, age 70 passed away in peace on Saturday, June 17th in the Hospice Center at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. Born in Neptune, he lived in Long Branch for the last 68 years. He Graduated from Long Branch High School in 1953 where he helped lead the 1952 " Green Wave " Football Team to a State Championship. Known to all his friends as "Iron Mike" he was named to the first team All-State and All-County Footballs Teams. He attended Valley Forge Military Academy on a scholarship where he was named to the All-American Football Team in 1954. He served his country honorably for eight years in the United States Army and was honored with 4 medals as an MP. He was elected to the Long Branch Athletic Hall of Fame for football in 1984. Mike was a friend to all and a wonderful family man. Surviving is his wife of 45 years Frances "Snooky" Tortoretti Attardi, a son and daughter in law Michael D. and Colleen Cole-Hatchard Attardi of Middletown. Two daughters and a son in law Michelle and Dr. James Fay, of Manasquan and Francine Attardi of Long Branch. Two Grandchildren, James J. Fay and Michael D. Attardi, Jr. , also two Sisters, Anne Ducey, of Long Branch and Gloria Sorrentino, of West Long Branch. A Sister in law Donna Gesualdi Clay, of Long Branch and two brothers in law Patrick Clay and Thomas Sorrentino.

Relatives and friends may call at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Avenue, Corner of Third Ave, on Monday, June 21, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm with a funeral service beginning at 8:30 pm. Interment of cremains with military honors will be held at Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veteran Memorial cemetery, Wrightstown at a time to be announced Monday at the Funeral Home.

Attardi, Anna Aschettino

Anna Aschettino Attardi, age 85 of Long Branch died Thursday, March 18, 2005 at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She was a seamstress at Robert Lewis Sportswear, West Long Branch for 40 years retiring 20 years ago; and a member of the Amalgamated Clothing Workers Union. Mrs. Attardi was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Roman Catholic Church, Long Branch, where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society and President of Holy Trinity Seniors. She was also active with the Long Branch Seniors. Born in Long Branch, she was a life resident. She was predeceased by her husband Louis V. Attardi in 2001 and a brother, Carmen Aschettino in 1989. Surviving is a son and daughter in law, Joseph and Pam Attardi of W. Allenhurst; a daughter, Lynne T. Attardi of West Bend, WI; 4 grandchildren and their spouses, Joseph and Jamie Lee, James and Vincenza, Traci and Ned, and David; and 7 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave. on the corner of Third Ave, Long Branch, on Monday, March 21 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. Atwood, Margaret Mary

Mary Margaret Atwood, age 93 yrs of Stone Harbor, NJ died on Wednesday, February 2, 2005 at the Crest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Cape May Court House, NJ.

She was born in Atlantic City, NJ and moved to this area in April, 1951. She was a member of St. Paul's R.C. Church here, a lifetime member of the Deborah Heart and Lung Auxiliary and the Stone Harbor Seniors.

She is survived by her sons; John W. and his wife, Merry of Stone Harbor, NJ, Melville S., IV and his wife, Sherry of Cape May Court House, NJ, her daughter, Rosalie Mirzayan and her husband, Paul of Lansdowne, PA. Her grandchildren; Paul, Richard & Stuart Mirzayan, Christopher Brodeur, Melville S. Atwood, Johathan Stuart Atwood and Teresa Christine Atwood. Also survived by two great grandchildren.

Funeral Liturgy will be said on Wednesday, February 9th, 2005 at 1:30 PM at St. Paul's R.C. Church, 9910 - 3rd Avenue, Stone Harbor, NJ. Interment will be in St. Mary's cemetery, Cold Spring, NJ.

Aubrey, Regina Mary

Regina Mary Aubrey, 58, of North Wildwood, passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2007 at Cape Regional Medical Center. She was born on August 29, 1949 in Philadelphia.

Regina is survived by her husband, Walter C. Aubrey, Jr. and her brother, Billy Forster. She is also survived by her children, Ray and Tammy Burns, Ray and Shannon Jaskolski, Dawn Weaver, Demitri Kendell, Chip and Stacie Aubrey, and Tina Ransom and Mike; her grandchildren, Raymond, Anthony, Dustin, Chrissy, Colin, Cory, Dylan, Ryan, Tyler, Laura, and Nikki; her great granddaughter, Taylor; and many more nieces, nephews, friends and family.

Regina was the President of Saint Ann's Saturday Night Bingo. She enjoyed playing the slots at the Borgata. Love you.

Funeral Mass will be said on Monday, November 19, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Ann's Church, East Glenwood and Atlantic Avenues, Wildwood. Austin, Martin P, II on Sept 10, 2001 of Cherry Hill age 59 survived by his sister Carole Jones of Columbus and a neice and a nephew. A graduate of Burlington City H S he has lived in Cherry Hill for the past 30 yrs. Auwarter, Elwood W.

ELWOOD W. AUWARTER of Ocean City, NJ passed away on Thursday, October 2nd, 2008 at the Samaritan Hospice Center in Mt. Holly, NJ. He was 79 yrs. of age. Born in Phila., PA, he is the son of the late August & Florence Auwarter and has resided in Ocean City, NJ since 1970 moving there from Phila., PA. A graduate of North East High School in Phila., Elwood served in the US Army during the Korean War and then went back to work as an Insurance Underwriter with General Accident in Phila, until his retirement in 1978. He then worked for a short while with the Golden Nugget Casino in Atlantic City and was also an Usher/Ticket Taker for the Phila. Phillies from 1958 to 1980. He is the Loving Father of Glen W. Auwarter and his wife Robin of Shamong, NJ, Laurel S. Fraser of Phila., PA and Andrea L. Egan and her husband Michael of Mt. Laurel, NJ. He is also survived by his sister Florence Ann Weiler and her husband Robert of West Melbourne, FL, his Grandchildren Ellie M. and Corryn B. Fraser and Emily S. and Ava G. Auwarter and his niece Sue McKenna and her husband James and their 2 sons and his nephew Robert Weiler and his wife Miriam and their 2 children. Avedikian, Jean Auguste

JEAN AUGUSTE AVEDIKIAN, 77, of COLTS NECK, died Tuesday, July 8, at Victoria Health Care Center, Matawan. He was the owner of Precision Hard Chrome Co., Rahway, for 35 years, retiring 14 years ago. He was parishioner of St. Stepanos Armenian Church, Long Branch. He was considered by his family and friends as a hard worker. Above all, the most important thing to him was instilling family values to those he loved, by setting an example through his own life. Born in Marseilles, France, he lived in Rutherford before moving to Colts Neck in 1968.

He was predeceased by his wife, Pauline Manoogian Avedikian, in October 2002. Surviving are two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Donna Avedikian of West Long Branch, and Douglas Avedikian of Brick; a sister, Marie Balian of Canada; and two grandchildren, Michael and Noelle.

Pauline Avedikian age 80 of Colts Neck died October 23, at Jersey Shore Medical Center, Neptune.

Born in Saint Catharines, Ontario, Canada. She had lived in Rutherford before coming to Colts Neck 34 years ago. She was a Parishioner of St Stepanos Armenian Church, Long Branch. Surviving is her husband Jean A. Avedikian, two sons and a daughter-in-law Mitchell & Donna Avedikian, West Long Branch and Douglas Avedikian, Brick, two grandchildren, Michael and Noelle.

Philip F. AVILA, Sr. of Marlton, age 70, died peacefully on March 8, 2002 at his home surrounded by his loving family after recently being diagnosed with Melanoma. Beloved husband of Jean Avila (nee Lucarini). Devoted father of Philip and his wife, Tammi, Andrea and her husband, Bob, Diane and her husband, David, Janine and her husband, Van, Donna and her husband, Steven. Dear brother of June McDonald. Also survived by 12 grandchildren. Philip was a retired Captain in the Naval Reserves. He attended Frankford High School (class of 1949). He graduated from Villanova University in 1953. Important to Phil was his close circle of friends, family and all of his grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by all who were privileged to know him. AZOFF, Reba

On December 5, 2004. Of Marlton, formerly of Collingswood. Age 93. Beloved daughter of the late Gerson and Anna Azoff. Dear sister of the late Freda Azoff.

Miss Azoff was a medical records transcriber at West Jersey Hospital in Camden, and had also worked as a Social Worker. Services were held at Roosevelt Memorial Park in Trevose, PA. She is survived by several cousins and beloved friends.
