Chapman, Ora Clark

Ora Clark Chapman, III, age 64 of Long Branch died Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at home. Born in Newark, he had lived many years in Union, recently moving to the shore area. He was predeceased by his parents, Ora Clark Chapman, Jr. and Dorothy Chapman. Surviving is a cousin and his wife; Donald and Janebeth Chapman of Mass.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 30, from 9 am until the time of the funeral service at 9:30 am from the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave., on the corner of Third, Long Branch. Interment will follow at Whiting Memorial Park, Whiting.

Chase, Elaine

Elaine Chase, 72, of Cape May Court House, passed away on Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at her home. Born in Wildwood Crest to the late Otto and Bernice (Morton) Stocker, she was a lifetime resident of this area. She was the valedictorian of the Wildwood High School Class of 1952 and was a member of the National Honor Society. She was a 35 year member of the First United Methodist Church of Cape May Court House, where she was Church Historian and Co-Treasurer for 26 years. She worked as a substitute teacher for Middle Township Public Schools and worked as the front desk manager of Bal Harbour for 25 years. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and Past President of the Hospital Auxiliary.

Mrs. Chase is survived by her son, Dr. Christopher Chase and his wife, Roseann; her daughter in law, Peg Ciglinsky; her grandchildren, Maggie Chase, Morgan Chase, and Lauren Chase; her brothers and sisters, Jack Stocker, Morton Stocker, Kenneth Stocker, Arlieen Franco, and Bernice Lindberg; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Stevenson Chase; her son, Neal Chase; and her sister, Kay Jones-Stocker.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 4, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House. Viewings will be held on Thursday, May 3 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Friday, May 4 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery, Cape May Court House. Memorial donations may be made to the Cape May County Historical Museum, 504 Route 9 North, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.

Chase, Thomas

Thomas Chase, 87, of Cape May Court House, died on Monday, February 18, 2002 at his home. He was born in Holmesburg, PA and lived in the Bronx, NY prior to moving here. He summered here since 1984. He was a motorman for the New York Transit Authority. He was baptized in the Baptist Church as a young man. He was an avid bowler, having received many trophies. He was a member of various bowling leagues, including the Runyon Heights Bowling League of Yonkers, NY and the Housing Authority League of Bronx, New York.

Mr. Chase is survived by his daughter, Sherye Chase Pearson of Cape May Court House; and his grandson, Maurice Phillips, II.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 22 at 1:00 p.m. at the Christ Gospel Church, George and Anna Streets, Whitesboro, where friends may call after 12:00 p.m. Interment will be in Fairview cemetery, Cape May Court House. There is no viewing after the service. Memorials may be sent to the Christ Gospel Church Building Fund, 119 West Anna Street, Whitesboro, NJ 08252.

Chase, Dorothy Delores Eberhardt

Dorothy Delores Eberhardt Chase, 87, of Wildwood Crest, NJ, died on Thursday, June 2, 2005, at the Court House Convalescent Center, Cape May Court House, NJ. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on February 12, 1918, the daughter of the late Joseph O. and Elizabeth Veronica Klemt Eberhardt.

She lived in Philadelphia until 1946 when she moved to Chester, PA, and lived there until 1984 when she moved to Wildwood Crest, NJ. She attended Incarnation Grade School, and was a graduate of Olney High School. She formerly worked for the Tompkins Label Service; the Thomas M. Royal Company; and retired in 1981 after twenty years with the Vertol Division of the Boeing Company as Engineering Librarian. She was a member of the Church of the Assumption; the Girl Scouts of Delaware County, PA; St. Robert's Church and School; the RSVP; SWIM; Holy Redeemer VNA; Catholic Daughters; Cape May Quilters and Elderhostel.

She is survived by five children: Dorothy E. Abbot of Quakertown, PA, Marguerite A. Gooch of State College, PA, Patricia C. Mongelluzzo of Derwood, MD, Joseph S. of Secane, PA, and Paul L. of Wildwood Crest, NJ; nine grandchildren: Joy Abbot Inkpen, Sarah Chase Abbot, James P. Gooch, Jeffrey T. Gooch, and Jonathan E. Gooch, Peter M. Tellier, Christina McSweeney, Joseph P. Chase, and Janet T. Chase; seven great grandchildren: Nathaniel Gooch, Haylee Gooch, and Madeline Gooch, Daniel McSweeney, Lilly McSweeney, Bethany McSweeney, and Sarah McSweeney; one sister: Catherine E. Schenkel; one nephew; and six nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, two sisters, two infant granddaughters, two nephews, and her husband, Joseph S. Chase on November 25, 1994, who she married on April 18, 1942, at Incarnation Church, Philadelphia, PA.

Mass of Resurrection will be said on Monday, June 6, 2005, at 11:00 AM at Church of the Assumption, 7110 Seaview Av., Wildwood Crest, NJ, where friends may call at 10:00 AM. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans cemetery, Cape May Court House, NJ. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Assocation, 1042 Rte. 47 South, Rio Grande, NJ 08242, or to the Church of the Assumption, 7110 Seaview Av., Wildwood Crest, NJ 08260.

Chase-Pearson, Sherye

Sherye Chase Pearson, 68, of Cape May Court House, passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at home. She was born on November 16, 1941 to the late Thomas Chase and Gloria B. Overton in New York City. Sherye was the eldest of her siblings, whom all preceded her in death. She grew up in New York City; there she completed her education, graduating from Girls High School in Brooklyn, NY.

Sherye married at an early age and in 1958 had a son from this union. In the early 1980's Sherye married Daniel (Danny) Pearson, who preceded her in death.

After the death of her husband, Sherye moved to Martha's Vineyard, a place that she loved and believed that she would spend the rest of her life there. However this was not in God's plan for her. She relocated to New Jersey to assist with the care of her father during his illness at the family home in Cape May Court House. She worked at numerous jobs in the community, and was last employed by Middle Township School District, in the transportation department as a bus driver until she retired in 2002.

Minister Sherye's greatest passion was ministering to people about God. She was doing this before she actually became a member of Christ Gospel Church. She loved the Lord and was called into the ministry. Her ministry was taken to another level after being dedicated as a minister on April 5, 2009. Shortly afterwards she completed the Ministerial Orientation Course with Aenon Bible Institute.

Sherye was an integral part of the Women's Prison Ministry; she held a special love in her heart for the women that were incarcerated. She went to great lengths to gathering literature for the women and delivered it with love. She became Chairperson of the Women's Prison Ministry in January 2009. She further shared her knowledge as a Sunday School Teacher for the Adult Women's Class.

Other Ministries that she was a part of was the Shepherds Ministry, Missionary Choir, Women's Recovery (one of the original facilitators) and the Hospitality Ministry where she served as Chairperson until January 2009.

Sherye enjoyed playing bridge, traveling and shopping on QVC. She was very active in community organizations such as AARP, Red Hat Society, American Legion and other organizations.

Sherye Chase-Pearson leaves to celebrate her life, her son Maurice Lovell Phillips II; a Special sister, Wanda Jean Meyers; two sisters in lawd Wanda Overton and Denise Van Allan; seven nieces, Deborah, Mary, Dana, Mei-Mei, Tamiko, Precious, and Jazmine; four nephews, Jason, Shawn, Freddie and Randy; numerous cousins, relatives and friends who will greatly miss her.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Gospel Church, 2209 Route 9 South, Whitesboro, where viewing will begin at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be in the Cape May County Veterans cemetery, Cape May Court House.

Cheesman, Roy J.

Roy J. Cheesman, 82 yrs died on Tuesday March 29th, 2005 at the Eastern Shore Nursing Center, Cape May Court House, NJ. Born in Cape May Court House he was a lifetime county resident and has lived with his daughter at her home in Belleplain for the last 4 years.

He was a Groundskeeper at the Wildwood Golf & Country Club and was an Army Veteran of WW II. He was a member of the VFW Post 7476 and the Dennis Township Senior Citizens. He had attended the Baptist Church of Cape May Court House.

Roy was predeceased by his wife Maybelle Taylor (nee Springer) Cheesman on March 23rd, 2001. He is survived by his son Ronald of Millville and his daughter Arletta Creamer of Belleplain. His two step daughters Mary Stewart of Florida and Barbara McNulty of Cape May Court House. Also survived by eleven grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.

Funeral Services 11:00 AM Friday, April 1st, 2005 at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Avenue, Cape May Court House, where relatives and friends may call after 10:00 AM. Interment in Cape May County Veterans cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Belleplain Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

Cheesman, Leon

Leon Cheesman, 87, died on Sunday, October 19, 2003, at Shore Memorial Hospital, Somers Point, NJ. He was born in Bridgeton, NJ, and had lived most of his life in Woodbine and the last twenty two years in Petersburg. He was the son of the late Roy and Elizabeth Garrison Cheesman. He was a retired salesman for the DeCinque Oil Company; owned the Western Auto Store in Woodbine; and owned and operated a Sunoco Station in Springfield, OH. He was a Navy Veteran of World War II. He had served as tax assessor for the Borough of Woodbine; elected mayor in 1965 and served two terms; a member of the Woodbine Fire Company; he was an avid golfer and gardener. He was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and brother in law.

He is survived by his children: Leona K. (Joseph) Pittaluga of Clearwater, FL, Leon J. of Woodbine, Marie E. (James) Flukey and Stephanie A. (Ronald) Mayne both of Petersburg; brother: Roy Cheesman of Belleplain, NJ; sister: Marion Sudol DeGeatani of Marmora, NJ; grandchildren: Joseph, Kathleen and Anthony Pittaluga, Monica Black, Angela Staub, Maria Maloney, Jimmy, Mary and John Flukey, Donna Scherer, Diane Kadlcak, Christine, Michael and Paul Mayne; and twelve great grandchildren.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 24, 2003, at 12:00 PM at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Av., Cape May Court House, NJ, where friends may call at 10:00 AM. Interment is in the Cape May County Veterans cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, c/o St. Casimir's Church, Woodbine, NJ 08270.

Cheney, John L.

John L. Cheney, 54, of South Seaville, passed away on Thursday, September 13, 2001, at the University Medical Center, Lubbock, TX. He was born in Trenton and lived in California. He was a graduate of the University of Arizona and worked as a musician and artist.

He is survived by his parents, Edward and Martha Cheney of South Seaville; his sister, Ruth Klinger-Cheney of Krefeld, Germany, Lynn Cheney of South Seaville, and Kristi Cheney-Paulson of Mount Holly; and his beloved, Miriam Wadieff of California.

A private memorial service will be held. In leiu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the South Seaville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 158, South Seaville, NJ 08246.

Chester, Lydia M.

Lydia M. (Day) Chester, of Erma, NJ, died on Wednesday, January 12, 2005, at the Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital, Cape May Court House, NJ. She was born in Cold Spring, NJ, the daughter of the late George and Mabel Shaw Day. She was a retired chambermaid having worked for the Beach Colony Motel in Wildwood Crest, NJ. She was a member of the Church of the Nazarene of Erma, NJ; a lifetime member of the American Motorcycle Association; and the HOG. She enjoyed doing crafts, gardening, and riding in trucks.

She is survied by a son: Carles F. Shaw, Jr. (Jeanette) of Rio Grande, NJ; daughters: Lydia Marie Farina (Theodore C.) of Wildwood Crest, NJ, and Carol Ann Garrison of Villas, NJ; grandchildren: Carles F. Shaw, III (Melanie), Tiffany Seddon (Daniel), Theodore C., Jr., Tonya Marie Farina, Tyler C. Farina, Krystal L. Garrison, Shannon M. Garrison, and Jason H. Garrison; great grandchildren: Mariah Nicole Farina, Jared Shaw, Nicholas Shaw, Danny Seddon, Jake Seddon, and Luke Seddon; and her long time companion: Elijah Scull, Sr. of Green Creek, NJ.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, January 16, 2005, at 1:00 PM at the Radzieta Funeral Home, 9 Hand Av., Cape May Court House, NJ, where friends may call Saturday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and on Sunday from 12:00 to 1:00 PM. Interment will be in Cold Spring Presbyterian cemetery, Cold Spring, NJ.

Chester, Ryan

Ryan Chester, infant son of Glenda Tozer and William Chester, Jr., on October 28, 2002, at Burdette Tomlin Memorial Hospital, Cape May Court House. He is survived by his parents, his paternal grandmother: Linda McMichael of Rio Grande; paternal great grandmother: Eve of Villas; maternal grandparents: Glenda and Charles Tozer of Wildwood; maternal grandmothers: Wilma Murphy of Erma and Anne Murphy of Cape May Court House; and brother: William Chester, III at home in Wildwood.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, November 4, 2002, at Cold Spring Presbyterian cemetery, Cold Spring.

Chestman, John Monty

John Monty Chestman, age 60, of Eatontown died Thursday, September 6, 2007 at home. He was an insurance salesman for Chubb Life Insurance Company in Parsippany for 20 years. After retiring, he opened his own company Mid Atlantic Insurance Company in Asbury Park, Monty's Cards, Comics and Collectables in Oakhurst, and owner and operator of KMC Treasures of Red Bank (kmctreasures@Ebay.com). John was a Disabled Veteran, who served in the US Navy during the Vietnam Conflict on the USS Epperson DD719. He was a member of the VFW Brighton Post 2140, Long Branch; the Long Branch Elk Lodge 742; and coached Little League Baseball in Monmouth Beach. He was a communicant of Our Lady Star of the Sea R.C. Church, Long Branch where he served as head usher for many years. Born in Long Branch he was a life resident of the shore area. John was predeceased by his father, Harmon "Bill" Chestman.

Surviving are his wife, Kathy Ciccone-Chestman; 2 sons, Louis Monty Chestman of Sydney, Australia; John Anthony Chestman of Long Branch and their mother, Janet Farina; his mother, Alice Chestman of Long Branch; 2 brothers, William Chestman of Wanamassa, Allen Chestman, Tuckerton; several nieces and nephews; his step daughter, Marli DeFilippis, a step son, D'Arcey Ciccone; a step grandson, Atticus James DeFilippis; and his best friends, Keith Matches and Richard Schibell.

Visitation will be on Monday, September 10, from 2-4, 7-9 pm from the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave, on the corner of Third Ave, Long Branch. Funeral Tuesday at 8:30 am from the funeral home followed by a 9:30 am Mass at Star of the Sea Church. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, Grand Central Station, PO Box 4777, New York, NY 19163.

Chestman, Harmon "Bill"

Harmon W. "Bill" Chestman, age 75 of Long Branch died Sunday, August 1, 2004 at home under the care of hospice. He was a driver for Monmouth County Reclamation Center for 10 years retiring 9 years ago and a member of the Teamsters Local 574 and Local 11. He was previously employed for 20 years by Lawe's in Shrewsbury as a Forman/Driver. He was the owner of Chestman's Thoroughbred Stable. Mr. Chestman was a member of St Luke's United Methodist Church, Long Branch. Born in Long Branch, he had been a life resident. He was predeceased by his parents, Harmon and Sara Dunphy Chestman, a sister, Eleanor De Frice in 2002, two grandsons, Allen Chestman in 1982 and William Chestman in 1990.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years Alice Morgan Chestman; 3 sons and 3 daughters in law, Bill and Carolann Chestman, Wanamassa; John and Kathy Chestman, Oakhurst; Allen and Christine Chestman, Little Egg Harbor; 2 sisters, Lillian Quackenbaum, Jacksonville, Fla; Bonnie Terchill Scott, Graceville, Fla; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave, corner of Third Ave, Long Branch on Tuesday, August 3 from 2-4, 7-9 pm. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 4, at 10 am from St Luke's United Methodist Church, Broadway, Long Branch. Interment will follow at Monmouth Memorial Park, Tinton Falls. Memorial donations can be made to St. Barnabas Hospice at Monmouth Medical Center, 300 Second Ave., CW6, Long Branch, NJ 07740.
