D'Oria, Philip J.

Giving Us the Philly Skyline -- And More

Entering the city of Brotherly Love, one can't help but have their eyes drawn to the magnificent high rises that reach to the heavens. Those heavens have now taken a wonderful man who was a large part of carving the landscape of the Philadelphia skyline we've all come to know and love on November 28, 2004.

Philip J. D'Oria retired in July of 2004, but was the Vice President of Real Estate for CIGNA Corporation when the company began negotiations with City Hall to build Two Liberty Place, the second tallest skyscraper in Philadelphia. This 58-floor, 848-foot building would become the new home for thousands of employees and countless corporations. The smaller sister building to One Liberty Place, Two Liberty Place was completed in 1990, and no taller building has been built in Pennsylvania since that time.

What many people don't know about Phil was that he was much more than just a great negotiator. He was a loving husband and father, a friend to everyone blessed enough to have met him, and a spirit that no cloud could ever shed a raindrop on. We all have friends who seem to know someone wherever they go, but Phil was the person who really did - and made them your friend before the night was through.

A man of intelligence, integrity, honor, and loyalty, he spent over 30 years brokering real estate deals for CIGNA, working countless hours and pouring his life's work into his occupation - a true blue collar mentality in a white collar atmosphere. He was also perhaps the most giving and loving man I have ever had the fortune of knowing.

His love for family was demonstrated not only by watching his children and grandchildren play sports, sing in the chorus, and the rest of the parental 'duties, ' but also by sharing his lessons learned and guiding others to live by the golden rule. In an era where so much hate and competition is spewed through media outlets worldwide, he was a renaissance man with aspirations of one thing: sharing the best he had to offer with the rest of the world. A member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Phil was a giver even in his death - he donated his organs to seven recipients who have now been given the gift of life.

Phil died suddenly on November 28, 2004. He is the Beloved husband of Paulette K. D'Oria (nee McFadden) of Marlton and loving father of Kimberly M. and her husband, John Hangey of Marlton, Keith M. D'Oria and his wife, Lisa of Mt. Laurel and Melissa L. McFadden of Marlton. He is also survived by his beloved granddaughter, Gwenyth Inez, his loving uncle, Carl Klopp and his dear step mother Lydia D'Oria. Relatives and friends are invited to the viewing on Wednesday from 6-9pm and Thursday from 8-9:30am at the Bradley Funeral Home Rt. 73 & Evesham Rd. Marlton (856) 983-1005. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday at 10am at St. Isaac Jogues Church Evesboro-Medford & Elmwood Rds. Marlton. Interment New St. Mary's cemetery, Bellmawr NJ.
