Samuel J. Collura

Samuel J. Collura, of Phillipsburg, died Friday, December 19, 2003 in the Lopatcong Center, Lopatcong Twp., N.J.

He was a son of the late Joseph Sr., and Rose Farina Collura.

He was an Air Force veteran.

Surviving are two brothers, Bernard of Phillipsburg and Joseph Jr. of Belvidere.

Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg. A calling hour will be held from 9:00 a.m. until time of services Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in St. Philip and St. James cemetery , Greenwich Twp., N.J. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a diabetes association of their choice.

Sadie Comito

Sadie Comito, 86, of Phillipsburg, died Monday, January 13, 1997 in the Care Center of Brakeley Park, Lopatcong Twp. where she was a guest for the past week.

Born March 25, 1910 in Newton, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Antonio and Carmella Valentino Sgrenci.

She was a member of St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg, where she belonged to the Over-Fifties Club.

She was believed to be the last living member of the former Maria S.S. Assunta Society of Phillipsburg. She served many offices within the society and was also a charter member.

She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, Court Warren #389; St. Mary's Catholic Church Golden Age Club, Alpha, as well as the Phillipsburg Chapter Number 4704 of the A.A.R.P. and the Cheerful Singles Club of Phillipsburg.

Her husband, the late Antonio Comito died March 3, 1981.

Survivors include two sons, Dominic A. and Anthony D., both of Phillipsburg; one brother, Dominic of Ewing Twp., NJ, six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. A brother, Gregory and a sister, Rose Benzano both died earlier.

Funeral services will be held 10:15 am Thursday from the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 S Main St., Phillipsburg, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 10:45 am in St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, 426 S Main St., Phillipsburg. Burial will be in the parish cemetery , Greenwich Twp., NJ. Calling hours will be held 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm Wednesday in the Funeral home.

Lena Connolly

Lena Connolly, 89, of the Care Center of Lopatcong, formerly of the O'Donnell Apts, Phillipsburg, died Thursday, December 25, 1997 in the Care Center.

Born March 21, 1908 in Phillipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary Nagy Nemeth.

She was a member of St. Philip and St. James Roman Catholic Church, Phillipsburg.

She was one of the founding members of the O'Donnell Apartments Tenant Social Club in 1965.

Her husband, T. Edward died October 3, 1972.

She is survived by a son, Edward J. Connolly of Lopatcong Twp.; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A brother, Joseph and three sisters, Julia Anderson, Mary Stanchus and Margaret Gercie all died earlier.

Services will be held Monday, 9:00 a.m. from the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in the church, 426 South Main St., Phillipsburg. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. A calling hour will be held from 8:00 a.m. until time of services in the funeral home on Monday.

The family requests memorial contribution to the church, 430 South Main St., Phillipsburg, NJ 08865.

Lena G. Contuzzi

Lena G. Contuzzi, 84, of Bethlehem Twp., PA, formerly of Phillipsburg, died Saturday, February 20, 1999 in Gracedale, where she was a resident for the past year.

Born February 12, 1915 in Phillipsburg, she was the daughter of the late Santo and Antonina Todaro Farina.

She was a member of St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg.

She was involved with the Norwescap Retired Seniors Volunteer Program of Warren County. She had formerly been a teachers aide at Freeman School in Phillipsburg and waitress at the John Dolak American Legion Post in Alpha, and was an avid bingo player.

Her Husband, the late Marcello Contuzzi died October 2, 1968.

She is survvived by a daughter, Jo Anne, wife of Samuel Snyder of Bethlehem Twp.; two sons, Frank of Belle Mead, NJ and Mark of Bridgewater, NJ, six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Two sisters, Rose Collura and Josephine Farina and six brothers, Samuel, Charles, Louis, George, Peter and Thomas all died earlier.

Funeral services will be held 9:00 am Wednesday, from the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 S Main St, Phillipsburg, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. in Sts. Philip and James Catholic Church, 426 S Main St., Phillipsburg. Burial will be in the parish cemetery in Greenwich Twp., NJ. Calling hours will be held 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm Tuesday in the funeral home.

The family requests memorial contribution to American Diabetes Association 2045 Westgate Dr Ste 302 Bethlehem, PA 18017 or to the American Alzheimer's Association 325 Chestnut St Philadelphia, PA 19106.

Carmelo A. "Carl" Corpora

Carmelo A. "Carl" Corpora, 73, of Phillipsburg, died Sunday, September 15, 2002 in Warren Hospital in Phillipsburg.

He was a sales and delivery man for Frito-Lay in Belfast, Pa. for seventeen years, retiring in 1986. He then work for Wells-Fargo Security at Ingersoll-Rand in Phillipsburg until 1997.

Born August 24, 1929 in New York City, N.Y., he was the son of the late Joseph and Maria Merlo Corpora.

He was a member of St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, Phillipsburg and a member of the church's Holy Name Society.

He was a member of the Phillipsburg Chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons. He enjoyed golfing with St. Anthony's Golf League in Easton and bowling with the Warren Commercial Bowling League at Warren Lanes in Phillipsburg.

He and his wife, the former Mary Josephine "Josie" Polcari observed their 46th wedding anniversary June 2nd.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Mickey and his wife Christi of Palmer Township and John D. and his wife Joanne of Nazareth; a brother Placido of Homer, N.Y.; two sisters, Josephine of Wayne, N.J. and Maria Sedlacek of Budd Lake, N.J.; two grandsons, Vincent and Nicholas and a granddaughter Olivia Rose. Two brothers Santo and Anthony and a sister Bessie all died earlier.

Funeral services will begin 9:00 a.m. Thursday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in the church, 426 South Main St., Phillipsburg. Burial will be in the parish cemetery , Greenwich Township, N.J. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the funeral home.

The family requests memorial donations to the Warren Hospital Foundation Tree of Life, 185 Roseberry St., or the Phillipsburg Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 215, both in Phillipsburg, NJ 08865.

Linda Louise Craig

Linda Louise Craig, 39, of Easton, died Friday, July 30, 1999 in Lehigh Valley Hospice, Allentown, PA.

She was a former factory worker at Lifetime Doors in Forks Twp., PA.

Born September 30, 1959 in Easton, PA, she was the daughter of the late Chester and Sarah Schrayer Werkheiser, Sr.

She had attended the Key to Life Fellowship Church in Easton.

Her husband, the late Ralph Craig died August 13, 1997.

She is survived by two brothers, John and Earl Werkheiser, both of Knoxville, Tennessee; three sisters, Stella Cyphers of Lower Mount Bethel, PA, Helen Lozier and Caroline Stanton, both of Easton; a half-brother, Joseph Kaiser of Nazareth; and many nieces and nephews, especially Sarah Werkheiser and Charlette Eryilmaz, both of Easton. A brother, Chester Werkheiser, Jr. died earlier.

Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday in the Easton cemetery in Easton, PA. There will be no calling hours.

The family will accept memorial contributions, sent in care of the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg, NJ 08865.

Jeanne K. Cross

Jeanne K. Cross, 60, of Phillipsburg, died Wednesday, March 26, 2003 in her home.

She was a self employed as a private duty nurse for many years. She last worked for Mrs. T's Hoagie Shop in Phillipsburg.

Born July 19, 1942 in New York State, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Eleanor Cross.

She is survived by a daughter, Jessica L. Stefano and her husband Scott of Phillipsburg; a sister Norrine Cross of Sunland, California and a companion, Brian Smith of Phillipsburg. A brother, Earl Cross died earlier.

Private cremation will be held and a service of remembrance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Thursday, April 3, in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg. The Rev. Allen Schaarschmidt of the Church of the Blessed Hope of the Nazarene, Phillipsburg will preside.

Mary H. Shrope-Crosson

Mary H. Shrope-Crosson, 56, of Phillipsburg, died Saturday, May 15, 2004.

She previously worked at Ferris' Cafe, Phillipsburg.

Born April 4, 1948 in Phillipsburg, she was a daughter of Joseph and Laura Rapczynska Mondeau.

She was of the Catholic faith.

Survivors: three sons, Glenn, Jason and William Shrope; a daughter Cathy Lynn Shrope; two brothers, Joseph and David Mondeau and three sisters, Laura Mowder, Jean Ward and Joan Bilney and 13 grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 9:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Phillipsburg cemetery , Phillipsburg. There will be no viewing. The Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 S. Main St., Phillipsburg is handling the arrangements.

Contributions may be made to Glenn Shrope, c/o the funeral home.

Alice M. Cummings

Alice Mary Cummings, a longtime resident of Warren Haven Nursing Home in Mansfield Twp., formerly of Phillipsburg, died peaceably on Monday, May 15, 2007. The oldest resident of Warren Haven, and perhaps Warren County, Alice reached 109 years, 6 months and 7 days of age.

Alice was born by a midwife in the Hells Kitchen section of New York City, New York to John and Theresa Lorentz Morganweck on November 7, 1897. William McKinley was President and Thomas Edison had patented his movie camera, the Kinetograph, just one week prior to her birth.

Mrs. Cummings has been described as "hard working and stoic" by her grand-daughter, Barbara Donnelly of Oxford. She raised and supported her two daughters and herself through the Great Depression, taking jobs first as a charwoman, and then as a factory worker. Her husband, Robert, was unable to find carpentry work during this difficult time and fell victim to alcoholism. In the best sense, Mrs. Cummings was a survivor and a care-giver throughout her life.

Living simply and frugally, Alice was blessed with good health and a strong constitution. She was a devoted mother to her two daughters, and her warmth and compassion extended through her love of animals, especially horses and her pampered dogs, wild animals and birds.

Mrs. Cumming’s is survived by her daughter Alice, of Harmony; her grandson Robert Kirk of Woodstock, Ct, and his family; her grand-daughter Barbara Donnelly of Oxford, and her family. She was pre-deceased by a daughter, Helen C. Wilson, who died Christmas Day, 2003.

The family extends their thanks to the staff of Warren Haven for the excellent care and many kindnesses they provided Mrs. Cummings. They would also like to thank Compassionate Care Hospice of Parsippany for their excellent care during her last months.

A private service was held at her grand-daughters the day following her death. The Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg is handling the arrangements.
Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to make donations, in Mrs. Cummings' name to Compassionate Care Hospice, 140 Littleton Rd, Parsippany, NJ 07054, or to a hospice of your choice.

Amelia Cuva

Amelia Cuva, 95, of Phillipsburg, died Wednesday, May 5, 1999 in her home.

She was a former sewing machine operator in the Phillipsburg-Easton area for many years.

Born December 3, 1903 in Locono, Canonese, in Torino Italy, she was the daughter of the late Giacomo and Plautilla Giacobbi DeBernardi.

She was a member of St. Philip and St. James Roman Catholic Church in Phillipsburg. She had also been a member of the former Marie S.S. Assunta Society in Phillipsburg.

Her husband, the late Antonino Cuva died February 7, 1975.

She is survived by four daughters, Anna Mary of Phillipsburg, Angelina Shook of Easton, Victoria Wagner of Palmer Twp. and Amelia Garvey of Bradford, NY; eleven grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren. Eleven siblings and a daughter, Josephine Elmo, all died earlier.

Funeral services will be held at Noon on Saturday from the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 S Main St., Phillipsburg, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12:30 p.m. in St. Philip and St. James Catholic Church, 426 S Main St., Phillipsburg. Burial will be in the parish cemetery , Greenwich Twp., NJ. Calling hours will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Saturday in the funeral home.

The family requests memorial contributions to the church, 430 S Main Street, or to the Phillipsburg Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 215, both in Phillipsburg, NJ 08865.

Joanne Cicero D'Angelo

Joanne (Cicero) D'Angelo, 67, of Phillipsburg, N.J., died peacefully Saturday, January 7, 2006, in her home.

Joanne graduated from Empire Beauty School in Easton and began her career at the beauty salon at Orr's of Easton. She then co-owned the Hillcrest Beauty Salon in Phillipsburg until 1987. She then worked for the Komb in Motion Salon until this past July, ending a fifty-year career.

Born August 27, 1938 in Phillipsburg, she was a daughter of the late Sebastiano A. "Charles" Sr., and Jennie (Bartolotta) Cicero.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Alpha, N.J.

Her husband of twenty-five years, Nicholas A. D'Angelo died November 10, 1992.

She is survived by four sisters, Josephine Giglio and her husband Anthony of Wilson Borough, Pa., Neva Cicero-Wells of Forks Twp., Pa., Marilyn C. Bevacqua and her husband Barry of Philadelphia, Pa. and Kathi Cicero-Moussa of Palmer Twp., Pa.; a brother, Salvatore Cicero of Drexel Hill, Pa. and many nieces and nephews.

A brother, Sebastiano A. "Charlie" Cicero, Jr. died earlier.

At Joanne's request, there will be no viewing or visitation, but all are invited to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial, 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, in St. Mary's Church, 830 Fifth Ave, Alpha. Entombment will follow the Mass in the parish mausoleum.

Joanne also requested those wishing to offer an expression of sympathy to consider a donation to the Phillipsburg Emergency Squad, PO Box 215, Phillipsburg, NJ 08865.

Arrangements are being handled by Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 S Main St, Phillipsburg, N.J.

Nicholas A. D'Angelo

Nicholas A. D’Angelo, 63, of the Delaware Heights section of Phillipsburg, NJ, died Tuesday, November. 10, 1992 in Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg, NJ.

He was employed for many years as an expediter for the Cameron Division of Ingersoll-Rand, Phillipsburg. He last worked in 1985.

Born November 21, 1928 in Philadelphia, he is the son of Eugene D’Angelo of Philadelphia and the late Frances Lonzi D’Angelo.

He and his wife, the former Joanne Cicero celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary Sept. 9.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Alpha, NJ; the John Dolak American Legion Post #446, Alpha, NJ, and the Overbrook Italo-American Democratic Club, Philadelphia.

A World War II Army veteran, he served with the 42nd Engineer Combat Battalion in Seoul, Korea and attained the rank of Private First Class. He received a WWII Victory Medal and an Army of Occupation Medal.

In addition to his wife and father, he is survived by one sister, Maryann Marine of Lower Gwynedd, Pa.

Services were held Friday, November 13th, from the Noto­Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg, NJ. A Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 830 Fifth Ave., Alpha, NJ. Entombment was in St. Mary’s Mausoleum, Alpha. Contribution may be sent to the Phillipsburg Emergency Squad, P.O. Box 215, Phillipsburg, NJ 08865.

Lois L. Danner

Lois L. Danner, 63, of Phillipsburg, died Sunday, June 2, 2002 in Warren Hospital.

She was a former sewing machine operator for D.G. Sportswear in Phillipsburg.

Born November 22, 1938 in Harmony, she was the daughter of the late Kenneth and Emma VanEiken Rissmiller and a step-father, the late James Rissmiller.

Lois and her husband, Bernard J. Danner, Sr. observed their forty-fifth wedding anniversary February 23rd.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two sons; Bernard J. Jr., and James K. and a daughter, Darlene M. Fye, all of Phillipsburg; a brother, Kenneth of Phillipsburg; four sisters, Joyce Rissmiller of Mansfield Twp., Carol Davis of Easton, Betty Bartholomew and Terry Price, both of Phillipsburg; three grandchildren and one great grandchild. A son, Raymond and a daughter, Lois Louise, a sister Emma Bartholomew all died earlier.

Funeral services will be held 8:00 p.m. Wednesday in the Noto-Wynkoop Funeral Home, 289 South Main St., Phillipsburg. The Rev. Glenn A. Waskow, Pastor of St. John's Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg will officiate the services. Private cremation will be held at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held from 6:00 p.m. until time of services Wednesday in the funeral home.
