Jean M. Reed, 57, of Phillipsburg, NJ, passed away on Monday, March 12, 2007 in the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, Pa. Born: March 16, 1949 in New Brunswick, NJ, a daughter of the late William Brendel and Theda Traphagen Brendel. Personal: She and her husband, Ellsworth E. observed their 35th wedding anniversary on December 8, 2006. Jean was a cashier and clerk for the former Krauszer's Food Store in Clinton, NJ for seven years. She last worked in 2001. Jean graduated from the Middlesex County VoTech School. She has lived in Phillipsburg for the last 18 years before that she lived in Highland Park, NJ. Her hobby was collecting salt and pepper shakers. Survivors: two sons, Dennis and his wife, Brenda of Phillipsburg, NJ, David Brendel of Easton, Pa; a daughter, Denise of Easton, Pa; two sisters, Barbara Vanorden and her husband Robert of New Brunswick, NJ, Joyce Barrett and her husband, Donald of Spotswood, NJ; three grandchildren, Tyler, Justin and Krystal. Services: 8 p.m. Friday in the Rupell Funeral Home, LLC, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg, NJ. Call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home. Marjorie H. Minier

Marjorie H. Minier, 89, of Bethlehem, formerly of Harmony Township, NJ, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2007 at HCR Manor Care, Bethlehem. Born: On September 11, 1918 in Glendon, Pa, she was a daughter of the late Marshal and Helen Raub Washburn. Personal: Her husband, Worthy Benjamin Minier, passed away in 2002. She lived at Manor Care since 2001. Prior to that, she lived at Alexandria Manor and Hickory Hills, both of Bath, Pa. She also lived in Washington and Harmony Township. Marjorie was a florist, working at the former Washington Greenhouse, Washington, NJ, and Holton's Florist, Lopatcong Township. She graduated from Washington High School, Washington, NJ. Memberships: She was a member of Harmony Presbyterian Church, Harmony, NJ, and the Washington Chapter #136, Order of Eastern Star. Survivors: She is survived by a son, Kenneth A. and his wife Patricia of South West Harbor, Maine; two grandchildren, Erin Ritter and her husband Kirk of South West Harbor, Maine and Coleen Minier of Salem, Or, and four great-grandchildren, Christopher, Grace, Jacob, and Emily. A brother, George Walker, and a sister, Virginia Bauchman, both died earlier. Services: Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. in the Harmony Presbyterian cemetery, 2727 Belvidere Road, Harmony, NJ. There will be no calling hours. Harry W. Snyder Sr.

Harry W. Snyder Sr., 81, of Pohatcong Township, NJ, passed away Friday, March 16, 2007 at Warren Hospital. Born: On June 12, 1925 in Phillipsburg, NJ, he was a son of the late William S. and Jessica Fritts Snyder. Personal: He and his wife, the former Helen M. Apgar, observed their 60th wedding anniversary on September 14, 2006. A resident of Phillipsburg all of his life, Harry was a butcher all of his working life. He worked at the Co-Op Markets in Phillipsburg and Easton for 42 years, later working at Rossin's Market in New Village, NJ, for 15 years, retiring in 2002. He graduated from Phillipsburg High School, Class of 1942 and served in the Navy during World War II in the Philippine Theatre. His hobby was woodworking and he had made many pieces, including clocks for his family and friends. He also enjoyed gardening. Memberships: Harry was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Phillipsburg, where he served as a elder and deacon, was a former Sunday school teacher, and at one time was cub scout pack master. He was a member of the Sunny Seniors in Phillipsburg, NJ, and bowled in several senior leagues at Bel-Pike Lanes and Bar-Don Bowling Lanes. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Helen, he is survived by three sons, Harry W., Jr. and his wife Renee of Boerne, Texas, Jeffrey and his wife Patricia of Manchester, NJ, and Richard and his wife Lynn of Palmer Township, Pa; a brother, Eugene and his wife Lois of Palmer Township, Pa; a sister, Loretta Apgar of Bethlehem Township, Pa; eight grandchildren, Michael, Laura, Amanda, Andrew, Amy, Brian, Scott, and Gregory, and four great-grandchildren, Joshua, Logan, Luke and Abigail. A brother, William S., Jr., and a sister, Helen Brown, both died earlier. Services: Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Rupell Funeral Home LLC, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg, NJ. Calling hours will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Greenwich cemetery, Greenwich Township, NJ. Katherine C. Horn

Katherine C. Horn, 80, of Morris Park, Lopatcong Township, NJ, passed away Sunday, March 18, 2007 at the Care Center of Brakeley Park, Lopatcong Township. Born: On February 8, 1927 in Phillipsburg, NJ, she was a daughter of the late George and Helen Au Snyder. Personal: She and her husband, Jay W., observed their 59th wedding anniversary on June 21, 2006. A resident of the Phillipsburg area all of her life, Katherine at one time worked at the former Dixie Cup Co. in Wilson Borough and lastly was a teacher for the mentally challenged in Washington, NJ for 15 years, retiring in 1975. She attended Phillipsburg High School and enjoyed sewing and ceramics. She especially loved to travel. Memberships: Katherine was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, where she was former treasurer of the Friends and Neighbors Club and participated in the Meals on Wheels Program for the church. She was also a member of the Future Focus Group at Warren Hospital. Survivors: In addition to her husband Jay, she is survived by two daughters, Linda L. Kulp and her husband Douglas of Lopatcong Township and Helen M. Hahn and her husband Jeffrey of Lopatcong Township, NJ: four sisters, Betty Sickels of Phillipsburg, NJ, Ann Calderwood of Las Vegas, Nv, Viola Still of Phillipsburg, NJ, and Edna Pierce of Willard, NC; six grandchildren, Michelle Hughes and her husband Jamie, Kathleen Davis and her husband Jason, Erin Kulp, Ryanne Ori and her husband Eugene, Renee Hahn and Rebecca Hahn, and two great-grandchildren, Dawson and Ryleigh Hughes. Services: Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the Rupell Funeral Home LLC, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg, NJ. A calling hour will be held Wednesday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairmount cemetery, Phillipsburg, NJ. Lena E. Folkner

Lena E. Folkner, 89, of Country View Village, Belvidere, N.J., passed away on Friday, March 23, 2007 at Easton Hospital, Wilson Borough, Pa. Born: June 1, 1917, in Harmony, N.J., she was a daughter of the late Gilbert and Elizabeth Simons Stout. Personal: Her husband, Harry W. Folkner, passed away in 1991. Lena was a homemaker, having lived in the Buttzville area nearly all her life. She graduated from Belvidere High School in 1934. Memberships: She was a member of Buttzville United Methodist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and past president of the Women's Society. She was a member of the Civil Air Patrol during World War II, and volunteered at Warren Hospital for the American Red Cross as a Grey Lady. She was a former member of the Belvidere Women's Club, and a former member of the White Township Election Board. Survivors: Five nieces, Patricia Kern and her husband Richard, Linda Koehler and her husband Stanley, all of Bangor, Kathleen Pelto and her husband Alan of Easton, Cindy Radaskiewicz and her husband Joseph, of Vienna, N.J., and Debbie Rothrock and her husband Steve of Harmony; and a nephew Douglas Stout and his wife of Mt. Bethel. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Rupell Funeral Home, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg. A calling hour will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in Buttzville Methodist cemetery, Buttzville, N.J.

W. Howard "Bucky" Lawrence

W. Howard "Bucky" Lawrence, 97, of Delaware Park, Lopatcong Township, passed away Friday, August 10, 2007 at Warren Hospital. Born: August 15, 1909 in Lopatcong Township, he was a son of the late William G. and Rosilla Bowman Lawrence. Personal: His wife, the former E. Marie Densler, passed away July 27, 1979. Bucky lived his whole life in Lopatcong Township. He was a welding engineer for The Fuller Co. in Allentown for 19 years before retiring in 1974. He traveled to and worked in Korea, Jamaica, Japan, Mexico, Canada and much of the United States. Prior to that, he worked at the Tippott and Wood Co., and Ingersoll-Rand, both in Phillipsburg. Memberships: He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Phillipsburg, where he taught adult Sunday School for many years and was a former member of the church council. Bucky was an active member of Delaware Park Fire Co. #1, and a member of the Phillipsburg Exempt Firemen's Association. He was a founding member of the Lopatcong Township Emergency Squad and active with the squad for many years. He was a former member of the board of directors of the American Red Cross, Phillipsburg chapter. He was an instructor of First Aid and CPR for the Red Cross for many years in the Warren County area. At one time, Bucky was a member of the Easton Exchange Club, and later a member of the Phillipsburg Exchange Club, where he served as president. He was named Citizen of the Year by the Phillipsburg Area Chamber of Commerce in 1986, and was the first honoree to receive the Volunteer of the Year Recognition Award by Lopatcong Township. He was a 50-year member of Phillipsburg Lodge 52, F& AM, and a member of the Scottish Rite, Valley of Trenton. Bucky graduated from Phillipsburg High School in 1928 and attended Churchman's Business College in Easton. Survivors: Two daughters; Margaret "Peg" Fenstermaker and her husband Roger of Allentown, Pa., and Eleanor M. Snyder and her husband, Vernon of Delaware Park; six grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Dr. Bertha Lawrence and Minnie Lawrence, and three brothers, Merton, Earl and Gilbert Lawrence. Services: Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Rupell Funeral Home, LLC, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg. A calling hour will be held from 10 a.m. until time of the services on Wednesday. Burial will be in Fairmount cemetery. Memorials: May be made to Delaware Park Fire Co. #1, 112 Park Avenue Phillipsburg, NJ 08865, or Lopatcong Township Emergency Squad, 1301 Belvidere Road, Phillipsburg, NJ 08865, or to the charity of one's choice.

Martha L. VanSyckle

Martha L. VanSyckle, 94, formerly of Lopatcong Township, NJ, passed away Friday, August 10, 2007 at HCR ManorCare, Palmer Township, Pa. Born: On December 4, 1912 in Phillipsburg, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Amson and Matilda Cooney Breidinger. Personal: Her husband, Floyd VanSyckle Sr., passed away March 26, 1976. Marta had lived in Lopatcong Township and the Phillipsburg area all of her life before living at ManorCare. For ten years, she had worked in the administration office of Lafayette College, Easton, as assistant director of Financial Aid. She graduated from Phillipsburg High School, Class of 1931. Martha was an avid bridge player and reader and was an excellent knitter and seamstress. Martha had a great laugh and a wonderful sense of humor that will be missed by many people. Memberships: Martha, for 73 years, was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, Phillipsburg, where she served as chairperson of the Altar Guild and as the church representative to the former Phillipsburg Area Council of Churches. She was a member of the Sunny Seniors of Phillipsburg, the Greenwich Friendship Club, and the Young at Heart Club. Martha was also a member of the Senior Center of Phillipsburg, where she was one of the organizers of the Bridge Program at the center. Survivors: She is survived by a son, Floyd VanSyckle Jr. and his wife Sallie of Sun City, Arizona; a daughter, Shirley L. Wellen and her husband Larry of Palmer Township; eight grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. A daughter, Judith Beers, passed away in March of 1979. A grandson, William VanSyckle, passed away in February of 1977. Services: Memorial Services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in the church, 500 Hillcrest Blvd., Phillipsburg, NJ. There will be no calling hours. Interment of her cremains will be at St. Paul's Chapel of the church. The Rupell Funeral Home LLC, Phillipsburg, is in charge of the arrangements. Carl S. Heater

Carl S. Heater, 77, of Pohatcong Township, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2007, in Warren Hospital. Born: He was born May 12, 1930, in Phillipsburg, a son of the late William and Margaret Scofield Heater. Personal: He and his wife, Margaret A., observed their 55th wedding anniversary on December 9, 2006. He had attended Phillipsburg High School and served in the Marine Corps during the Korean conflict. Carl was a coremaker for the Ingersoll-Rand Co. in Phillipsburg for 38 1/2 years, retiring in 1992. In retirement he was a school bus driver for The First Student Bus Co. He sang with the Jersey Gents Barbershop Chorus. Memberships: He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Pohatcong Township, where he sang in the church choir and was a former member of the church council. Survivors: his wife; two sons, James S. and his wife, Donna, of Alpha and Steven and his wife, Stephanie, of Lafayette, Ind.; a daughter, Diane L. Hoadley of Pohatcong Township; two brothers, John of Trenton and Charles of Tenn.; a sister, Sarah Rickert; 10 grandchildren, Angela, Justine, Jamie, James Jr., Brian, Kevin, Stephanie, Amanda, Steven Jr., and Levi; and two great-grandchildren, Adriana and Sabrina. A son, Daniel, passed away in 1968, and four brothers, Whitfield, Floyd, Stewart and William, and a sister, Ellen Bubbabella, all died earlier. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday in the Rupell Funeral Home, LLC, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg. Calling hours will be held 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairmount cemetery, Phillipsburg. Memorials: to St. James Lutheran Church, 1213 US Highway 22, Phillipsburg, NJ 08865.

Edwin M. Clymer Sr.

Edwin M. Clymer Sr., 59, of Phillipsburg, NJ, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2007 at Easton Hospital, Wilson Borough. Born: On June 1, 2948 in Easton, he was a son of the late Edwin M. and Ruth J. Cyphers Clymer. Personal: He and his wife, the former Ruth E. Dreher, observed their 34th wedding anniversary on March 1, 2007. A Phillipsburg, NJ, resident all of his life, Edwin at one time worked in the general maintenance department of Ingersol-Rand Co., Phillipsburg. Prior to that, he worked for the New Jersey Central Railroad and at Warren Hospital. He attended Phillipsburg High School. He was an avid sports fan and fisherman. He especially enjoyed WWE Wrestling. Memberships: Edwin was a member of Blessed Hope Church of the Nazarene, Phillipsburg. He served as a volunteer for Catholic Charities, NORWESCAP, the Garden State Underwater Rescue Unit, and his church. He was also a member of the Pool League at Mac's Pub, Phillipsburg. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Ruth, he is survived by a son, Edwin M. Clymer Jr. and his wife Robin of Phillipsburg; a daughter, Melissa F. Clymer, at home; a sister, Nancy J. Clymer of Phillipsburg, NJ; seven grandchildren, Angelica, Ashley, Amber, Allison, and Austin Clymer, Jamie and James Sokoloski, and a nephew, Jason Clymer. Services: Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Rupell Funeral Home LLC, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg, NJ. Calling hours will be held Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairmount cemetery, Phillipsburg, NJ.

Joseph J, Shandor JR.

Joseph J. Shandor Jr., 45, of Harmony Township, NJ, passed away Sunday, August 12, 2007 at Warren Hospital. Born: On January 12, 1962 in Phillipsburg, NJ, he was a son of Joseph J. Sr. and Dorothy Stecker Shandor of Harmony Township, NJ. Personal: He was the husband of the former Mealony Penyak. A resident of Harmony Township for nearly all of his life, Joseph worked with his family in the operation of Joseph Shandor & Son Auto Parts, Harmony Township. He graduated from Belvidere High School, Class of 1980 where he played football and basketball. He was an auto racing enthusiast and at one time drove racing cars. He was also an avid collector of Indian relics. Survivors: In addition to his wife, Mealony, and his parents, Joseph and Dorothy, he is survived by a son, Joseph Matthew Shandor, at home; three sisters, Judy Riddle and her husband Jeffrey of Harmony Township, Joyce West of Harmony Township and Jennifer Spade and her husband Harry of Lancaster County, Pa; nieces and nephews, and his best friend, Jasper, his Lab. Services: Funeral services will be held Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Rupell Funeral Home LLC, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg. Calling hours will be Thursday from 6 p.m. until the time of the service in the funeral home. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to his wife and son through the funeral home.

Dorothy M. West Woolf

Dorothy M. West Woolf, 74, a 49 year resident of Lopatcong Township, NJ, passed away Monday, August 27, 2007 in Warren Hospital, Phillipsburg, NJ. Born: On May 24, 1933 in Northampton, Pa, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Grace Biddel West. Personal: She and her husband, Earl C., celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary last September. At one time, she worked at PNB in Phillipsburg as a teller for a number of years. She graduated from Easton High School in 1951 and attended and graduated from Churchman's Business School in Easton in 1954. Memberships: Dorothy was of the Lutheran faith. She was a member of the Warren Hospital Auxiliary and was an active volunteer at Warren Hospital for seven years. Survivors: She is survived by a son, David E. Woolf of Sciota, Pa; a daughter, Barbara L. O'Donnell and her husband Ted of Madison, NJ, and three grandchildren, Teddy O'Donnell, Kelsey O'Donnell and Megan O'Donnell. A brother, Frank West and a sister, Elizabeth Smith, both died earlier. Services: Will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Rupell Funeral Home LLC, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg, NJ. Call on Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. in the funeral home. Burial will be in Stewartsville Lutheran cemetery, Stewartsville, NJ. Memorials: May be made to the Deborah Hospital Foundation, 20 Pine Mill Road, Browns Mill, NJ 08015-0792.

Warren Albert Thatcher

Warren Albert Thatcher, 81, formerly of Belvidere, NJ went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 1, 2007 in HCR ManorCare in Palmer Township, Pa. Born: November 25, 1925 in Phillipsburg, he was a son of the late Warren and Grace Dalrymple Thatcher. Personal: He was a resident of Phillipsburg, Stewartsville and Belvidere all his life. Warren was employed by the J.T. Baker Chemical Co., Phillipsburg for 44 years, retiring in 1990. He served in the Navy SeaBee's during World War II aboard the USS Knox and the Bonham Richard in the Pacific Theatre. Warren "Big Al" was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. He loved the outdoors. He also played baseball on the church league. He was active in the church and sang tenor in the Thatcher Family Group, which traveled to different churches to sing. He will be deeply missed by his children, sisters and brothers-in-law, Ella, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and all family and friends who knew him. Memberships: He was a member of the Phillipsburg Alliance Church. Survivors: Two sons, Thomas Thatcher and his wife Lynda of Bethlehem, and Mark Thatcher and his wife Terry of Columbus, Miss; three daughters, Deborah Portegys and her husband Pat of Braidwood, Ill., Gayle Franco and her fiance' Richard Poirier of Easton, and Kim McManus and her husband George of Nazareth; four sisters, Doris Loudenberry of Stewartsville, Jane Rader of Easton, Grace Taylor of Rushford, NY, and Sara-Lu Mullin of Easton; grandchildren, Thomas and Travis Bean, Monte and Jamie Franco, Thomas and Heather Thatcher, and Mark and Michael Thatcher; two step-grandsons, Brett and Eric McManus; and two great-granddaughters, Jessika and Hayley Bean. Two brothers, Thomas and Arthur Thatcher, died earlier. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Rupell Funeral Home, LLC, 465 Memorial Parkway, Phillipsburg, please call one hour before the service in the funeral home. Interment will be in Fairmount cemetery, Phillipsburg. Memorials: To the church, 255 Lincoln St., Phillipsburg, NJ 08865 or to the Heart and Lung Association.
