MARTINA MORRISON, 91, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Monday at Ponderosa I at the Las Vegas Medical Center. She was born in Las Vegas, N.M. She was a clerk and sales lady at J.C. Penny, Montgomery Ward, Taichert's Clothing Store and Rex Studio. She loved to dress up and enjoyed cooking, sewing, reading and her iris garden. She was known for her kindness to stray animals. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gabino Romero Sr. and Sarita Polack Romero; son, Arsenio Rodriquez Jr.; brothers, Gabriel, Antonio, Gabino Jr., George, Frank and Arthur Romero; sister, Estella Lucero; first husband, Arcenio Rodriquez Sr.; and second husband, Rex Morrison. She is survived by her son, Fernando Rodriquez of Las Vegas, N.M.; one granddaughter; special friends, Diego Coca and Elvira Ortiz, both of Las Vegas, N.M.; and many other relatives and friends. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. today at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with burial to follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Gonzales Funerals & Cremations, (505) 425-9319.

ALBERT "AL" ROMERO of Santa Fe died Tuesday. He was born in Lincoln, later resided in Roswell and then lived the majority of his life in Santa Fe. He served in the U.S. Army as a paratrooper during World War II. He was a certified public accountant and served as state auditor. He served as chief clerk for the state House of Representatives for 25 years. His career continued, as he was head of the Department of Finance in Gallup, then local government in Santa Fe. He was a trustee for Santa Fe Community College. He belonged to the Space Hall of Fame in Alamagordo. He was an avid sportsman and gardener. His recreational pleasures included hunting and fishing. He was an outstanding racquetball player and won many tournaments in his division in the United States and abroad. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mercedes; and father, Tercio. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice; son, Anthony and wife Renee; daughter, Kevan Bojorquez and husband Enrique; four grandchildren; brothers, Tercio and wife Nina, Juan, Fermin and wife Humberta; sisters, Grace Romero, Bella and husband Juan Flores, Maria (Minnie) and husband John Bogart; and many other relatives and friends. A memorial service will be held at 8:30 a.m. Friday at the Berardinelli Family Funeral Chapel with burial to follow at 10:30 a.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. MARY WILDER, 91, of Los Alamos died Saturday. She was born in Deming. She was a member of the United Church of Los Alamos and taught Sunday school for 20 years. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, a school teacher and a substitute teacher. She was preceded in death by her parents, John R. and Harriet E. Smyer; and husband, David Gilmore Wilder. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia A. Garrett and Carolyn O'Mara. Cremation has taken place. JOSEPHINE A. FAIRCHILD, 81, of Santa Fe died Wednesday after a sudden illness.
She was born in Nambé. The family made its home in Santa Fe, where she lived for most of her life. She later resided in Rio Rancho.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John C. Fairchild; sons, Walter and Robert; daughter, Carol; parents, Teourita and Epimeno Romero; sisters, Delephina Quintana, Maria Lujan, Catalina Montoya, Celina Sikes and Antonia Gabaldon; and brothers, Benedito Lujan, Pedro Lujan, Dominico Lujan and Alfredo Lujan.
She is survived by her son, Donald F. Fairchild and wife Cindy of Denver; daughters, Sharon L. Fairchild of Rio Rancho and Karen E. Fairchild of Austin, Minn; brother, Malaquis Lujan; special niece, Viola Bloss; five grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. Sunday at the McGee Memorial Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church with burial to follow at Santa Fe National Cemetery. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

JUAN L. GARCIA, 46, of Las Vegas, N.M. died Wednesday.
He was born in Las Vegas, N.M. He was a ranch hand at the Smith Ranch for several years. He attended the Immaculate Conception Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Benito Garcia and Margarita Romero; and brother, Francis Garcia.
He is survived by his sisters, Sandra Duran and husband Abelino, Sylvia Larson and Virginia Ortiz, and Anna Jean Garcia, all of Las Vegas, N.M.; Romy Trujillo of Longmont, Colo.; and Dora Garcia of Truth or Consequences; brother, Benito Garcia Jr.; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Immaculate Conception Church. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Monday at the same church with burial to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery.

LEONARD "BILL" MALEY, 80, of Santa Fe died Sunday at the Espaņola Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
He was born in Newark, N.J., the only child of Ethel Florence Armstrong Maley and Leonard Maley.
He attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kingspoint, N.Y., in 1944. He served in World War II aboard Merchant Marine vessels transporting troops and supplies around the world. He joined the U.S. Navy as an officer and received the National Defense, Korean Service, United Nations, and Vietnam Service medals. He served on the USS Samuel N. Moore, the USS Bayfield and the USS Lofberg, as well as being stationed as a recruit officer and in the Pentagon. He was married in 1951 to a nurse at the Veterans' Administration Hospital in San Francisco. After his retirement from the Navy in 1967, he earned a degree in English literature at the University of Maryland. He worked as a consultant in the Washington, D.C., area before moving to Santa Fe in 1991. He was active in the Democratic Party, the Ski Area Containment Coalition and the Council on International Relations. He enjoyed traveling, theater, reading, classical music, good food and wine, and was a great raconteur.
He is survived by his wife, the former Ruby Palmlund; children, Kathleen Maley and husband Stephen R. Smith of Hernandez, Peter and Peggy Maley of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and Paul and Mary Maley of Fremont, Calif.; five grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church of Santa Fe on Grant Street. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be sent to the Leonard and Ruby Palmlund Maley RN Nursing Scholarship Fund, c/o Felicia Casados, Northern New Mexico Community College, Espaņola, N.M., 87532.

MARY CATHERINE THOMAS WARREN, 83, of Los Alamos died Thursday after a long illness.
She was born to John and Mary Frances King and was raised in Sterling, Ill. She married in 1942 and then moved to Los Alamos in 1955 when her husband began working in H Division and she continued raising their children. Widowed in 1962, she began working at Los Alamos National Laboratory in the Physics Division until retirement in 1981. She married again in 1966. She was a board member of the local March of Dimes. She was active with the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and received many service awards for her work with the LAMC Hospital Auxiliary. She helped out at the annual blood drive and was a eucharistic minister at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Famous for her popcorn and fudge, she was a seamstress, smocker and crafter who even made her own hats. She was an avid bridge player and loved swimming and traveling the world.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard Glen "Tommy" Thomas; and second husband, Martin "Marty" Warren.
She is survived by her children, Mary Kay Wedum, Jim Thomas and Peggy DeGrazio; four grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Los Alamos. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the same church with burial to follow at the Guaje Pines Cemetery in Los Alamos.

RAYMOND E. BEARDSLEY, 89, formerly of Santa Fe, died Wednesday. He died in Norman, Okla., where he had moved shortly before his death.
He served his country as a noncommissioned officer in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater and the Solomon Islands campaign. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers constructing the Al-Can Highway. He and his wife moved to Santa Fe in 1945 and recently resided at the El Castillo Apartments. While in Santa Fe, he worked as office manager at Cartwright Hardware on Lincoln Avenue. He was preceded in death by his wife, Winnie A. Beardsley. Services have taken place. JOSEPH ERNEST BROYLES JR., 34, of Espaņola died Monday. He was born in La Jara and raised in Fox Creek, Colo. He attended Antonito High School, then moved to Espaņola where he graduated from McCurdy School. He was raised by his grandfather, Joseph Ernest Broyles and grandmother, Daisy Mae Broyles. He loved the San Luis Valley and enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, go-carts and camping with his wife, sons and friends. He was newly enrolled in college and was looking forward to a future in computer-aided drafting. He is survived by his children, Jerome Anthony, Jeremy Tommy, and Jessie Joseph Broyles and wife Jeanette Garcia; niece whom he and his wife helped raise as their own daughter, Steffanie Sanchez; mother, Linda Johansen of Antonito, Colo.; brother, Jonathan Johansen of Fox Creek, Colo.; sisters, Janet Martinez of Denver and Donna Salazar of Los Lunas; and many other relatives and friends. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ojo Caliente with burial to follow at Fox Creek Cemetery in Colorado. DeVargas Funeral Home of the Espaņola Valley.
