MARY ANNE RIVES died Wednesday at St. Vincent Hospital. She was born in Lovington on Jan. 24, 1924. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, H.L. "Bill" Rives; two sisters, Ruth Moore of McAlester, Okla., and Alma Fite of San Antonio, Texas; four sons, Hal Rives and wife Marki of West Hartford, Conn., Charles Rives and wife Cynthia of Stephenville, Texas, Jim Rives and wife Monica of Las Cruces, and John Rives and wife Kari of Santa Fe; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was a graduate of the College of Santa Fe and held a master's degree in counseling from New Mexico Highlands University. She was an elementary school teacher for 16 years at Agua Fria Elementary School. She was a past president of the New Mexico chapter of the International Reading Association. As an active member of the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Santa Fe, she was a Sunday school teacher and choir member. She was a member of the Santa Fe chapter of the Daughters of the King. She shared her musical talents by playing the piano and guitar for the residents of La Residencia retirement home for several years. She was also the president of the Opera Guild in Roswell. Funeral services will be held at noon today at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to the Holy Trinity Orthodox Church building fund, 2161 Candelero, Santa Fe, N.M., 87505. Santa Fe Funeral Options & Memorial Gardens.

HENRIETTA SALAZAR, 56, originally of Taos, died suddenly on Tuesday. She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene Trujillo; husband, Bruno Salazar; son, Trend Salazar; and brother, Gene Trujillo. She was born Aug. 12, 1947, in Taos to Eugene Trujillo and Julia Herrera Trujillo. She attended Taos public schools and later received her beautician training in Santa Fe. She loved and cared for her family and will be missed deeply. She is survived by her two loving daughters, Tammy Sanchez and Johnny Archuleta, and Zonya Martinez and Brian Murrietta; mother; three brothers; three sisters; and grandchildren, Shane, Asel, Angelica, Ashley, Damien, Jasmine, Shileen, Anthony, Carlene and Trend. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at Berardinelli Family Chapel, followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. Berardinelli Family Funeral Service.

MARY C. VIGIL, 72, of El Llano and originally of Velarde, died Wednesday. She was preceded in death by her parents, Eduardo and Elizaida Valdez; husband, Sam Vigil; son, Robert Vigil; and one brother, Eduardo Valdez Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Angie Vigil and companion Samuel Salazar of El Llano; a grandson, Anthony Hice; daughter, Mela Gurule and husband Jimmy of El Llano; her best friend, Angie Montoya of La Villita; a special friend who was like a daughter, Marie Trujillo of Rio Chiquito; sisters, Cordie Casias and husband Ramon of Velarde; Juanita Thurber, Rose Klick and husband Leon, Lourdes Acuna and husband Jesus, Julie Padilla and husband Alex; brother, Danny Valdez, of Salt Lake City, Utah; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Templo El Buen Pastor in Ranchitos. Burial will follow at the Velarde Apostolic Cemetery. Salazar Family of Block-Salazar Mortuary.

ABRAN CASIAS, 66, of Taos died Tuesday. He worked at the Molycorp mine and was also a carpenter.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Epimenia Casias; children, Patsy Rael and husband Rudy of Arroyo Hondo, Darlene Marquez and husband Jesus of Tulsa, Okla., Bolivar Casias and wife Epi of Las Vegas, N.M., Juan and Jake Casias, both of Taos; sister, Eliza Valerio; special nephew, Gabriel Casias; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mass will be celebrated today at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church with burial to follow at Jesus de Nazareno Cemetery. Rivera-Hanlon Funeral Home.

BILLYE MARIE DARLING, 80, an artist of Santa Fe died Sunday with family members by her side. Born March 7, 1923, she was one of three children raised by Ida and Maurice Denney of Lawton, Okla. She attended Lawton public schools, received a scholarship and began her college education as a drama major at Cameron University. As a young woman, she enjoyed tennis, horseback riding and golf. She later developed passionate interests in bridge and travel. She married fellow Lawtonian Jack Darling Feb. 9, 1943, in Sioux Falls, S.D. By war's end, the first of three children came along, and the couple returned to Lawton, where they joined the family glass business. Billye was active in civic organizations, including Junior League and the Altar Guild at St. Andrew's Parish. She also began taking classes in sculpture, studying with sculptor Leonard Mac Murray. The Darlings moved to Santa Fe in 1966. She joined the National Park Service, and Jack started another glass business. She became fascinated with the color, light and forms that New Mexico offered and attended the College of Santa Fe to study painting. Over the years, her artistic efforts led to several exhibitions and commissions. She was a member of the Santa Fe Society of Artists and maintained a studio in Santa Fe until recent years. She was preceded in death by Jack, her husband of 52 years. She is survived by her sister, Fonda Ruback, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter, Susan of Pojoaque; sons, Jim of Tulsa, Okla., and Charles of Pasadena, Calif.; four grandsons; and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service is scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday at Ponce De Leon in Santa Fe. Berardinelli Family Funeral Service.

REUBEN EDWARD PANKEY, 85, of Santa Fe died of cancer Tuesday at home. He was a cowboy and rancher in Sierra County; a statesman serving in the state House of Representatives; a consultant to the Public Land Law Review Commission in Washington, D.C.; a member of the board of directors of the Albuquerque Production Credit Association; and past president of the New Mexico Cattle Growers Association. He served honorably with the U.S. Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He loved good horses, fine cattle and the great Western way of life, but most of all, he treasured his family and friends. To his family and special friends, he says, "I am not gone, our love and respect continues forever." He was preceded in death by his parents Joe L. and Edith Armer Pankey. He is survived by his wife Joyce; daughter of his heart, Cecilia Volpe and husband John; sister, Josephine Thetford and husband Deward; and many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends. At his request, after cremation, a Mass at 9 a.m. Friday will celebrate his life at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with interment at a later date. He asked that no flowers be sent and that anyone wishing to do so make a donation in his name to a charity of their choice. McGee Memorial Chapel.

SANTIAGO ROMERO, 90, of Taos died Monday.
He is survived by his nieces and nephews, Nancy Romero, Manuel Martinez, Bill Martinez, Joe Martinez and Loretta Robinette; and numerous other great nephews and nieces.
Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with burial to follow at Dolores Cemetery.

CLARA PEREZ, 75, of Santa Fe died Wednesday surrounded by loving family members and friends.
She was born Aug. 24, 1928, in Palma. Clara helped her husband, Victor, on their ranch for many years. She was a successful Avon representative for 36 years and made many friends. She loved people and was always willing to help anyone in need. Clara loved to sing, dance and take care of her grandchildren. She was loving and caring, and will be missed very much. She was preceded in death by her son, Victor Perez III, in August 1992; husband, Victor Perez Jr. in June 1994; father, Enriques Chavez; and mother, Isabel Chavez. She is survived by her daughters, Mabel Patel and husband Manu of Santa Fe, Loretta Trujillo and husband Lawrence of Albuquerque, and Dolores Gonzales and husband Louis of Santa Fe; 12 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; sisters, Mela Encinias, Della and husband Ted Gonzales, Isabel and husband Julian Gallegos, brother Manuel and wife Maida Chavez, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives; and very special friends, Ruth Ortiz and Sophie Moe. For those who wish, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Center, 1400 Chama Ave., Santa Fe, N.M. 87505. Visitation is 4-5:30 p.m. today at Berardinelli Family Chapel with a 7 p.m. rosary at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday at the same church. ROBERT HOWARD BRANDENBURG, 89, of Taos died Sunday. He practiced law in Taos for more than 50 years and was active in 52 service organizations, including the Taos Fire Department and the Lions Club.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Emily Z. Brandenburg; sister, Frances B. Hume of Florida; children, James Michael Brandenburg and wife Claire of Taos, Sharon B. Adkison and husband H. William of Santa Fe, Elizabeth B. Johnson and husband Clifford of Taos; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many other relatives. Private family services have been held. LEOPOLDO GALLEGOS SR., 91, of Moriarty died on Tuesday after a long illness. He loved to garden and care for his yard. He was very active in the Catholic Church before his decline in health. He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas and Delfina Gallegos; wife, Simonita Roybal; brother, Dementro Carrillo; and four grandchildren. He is survived by his children, Luisita Garcia and husband Frank of Moriarty, Alice Arguello, Mary Romero, Rose Tapia-Rael and husband Jacobo, all of Las Vegas, Richard Gallegos of Pueblo, Colo., Leo Gallegos Jr. and wife Rita of Las Vegas; 20 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at the Rogers Chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at our Lady of Sorrows Church with burial to follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
