HENRY (PARDO) SANCHEZ, 56, of Santa Fe died Saturday.
He was a graduate of St. Michael's High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1972 to 1974. He utilized his mathematical talents in the preparation of income taxes. He loved spending quality time with his extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his father, Henry Sanchez and mother, Ramona Sanchez.
He is survived by his son, Richard Sanchez and fiancée Terra Espinosa; daughter, Michelle Ortiz and husband Jerry; one granddaughter; brothers, Gene Sanchez and wife, Donna, Ramon Sanchez and wife, Esther, Sammy Sanchez and wife, Kathy and Jerry Sanchez; sisters, Sandra Quintana and husband, Leroy, and Edwina Sanchez; and many other relatives and friends.
A visitation will be held at 4 p.m. today at Berardinelli Family Chapel followed by a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. at St. Anne's Catholic Church. Mass will be celebrated at noon Wednesday at the same church with burial at 2 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

GEORGE W. CALVERT, 85, of Santa Fe died Saturday.
He was born in Amarillo, the son of Nora Bell and Harry Calvert. He married Billie Calvert in 1939. He retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory and was an endowment member of the National Rifle Association. In his youth, he was a leader of a country-western dance band in which he played the violin. He also enjoyed playing the organ and piano, reading and furniture making.
He is survived by his wife, Billie Calvert of Santa Fe; daughters, Clella Anderson and husband Dave of Anchorage, Alaska, and LaVelle Martin and husband Brad of Santa Fe; five grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Memorial contributions may be donated to the Santa Fe Animal Shelter and Humane Society, 1920 Cerrillos Road, Santa Fe, N.M.

TONY "LIL' JOKER" GARCIA-PAIZ, 34, of Cleveland, N.M., died Sunday at the Alta Vista Regional Hospital in Las Vegas, N.M.
A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the Rogers Chapel in Las Vegas, N.M. with cremation will take place following services.

ERMINIA MARTINEZ, 65, of Medanales died Monday following a long illness.
She loved to garden. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She enjoyed cooking and made delicious home-made tortillas.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Antonia Herrera and brother, Robert Herrera.
She is survived by her husband, Manuel A. Martinez, of Medanales; daughter, Ida Martinez and companion Carlos Valdez of Medanales; sons, Rudy Martinez and companion Dianne Marshall; Phillip Martinez and Daniel Martinez and wife, Renee, all of Medanales; seven grandchildren; sister, Irene Bustos of Española; brothers, Abel Herrera and wife, Prescilla, of Medanales, Lino Herrera and wife, Sharon, of Española, Marcial Herrera and wife, Debbie, and Dennis Herrera and wife, Doreen, of Albuquerque; and many other relatives and friends.
A public visitation will be held today at 6 p.m. with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. today in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home. A second rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday in the same chapel. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at San Antonio Catholic Church in Medanales with burial to follow at San Antonio Cemetery.

JERRY RONAN, 65, of Santa Fe died Saturday in Santa Fe.

MARGARITO HERRERA, 85, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Monday at Vida Encantada Nursing Rehab Center.
He was born in El Carmen to the late Benerito Herrera and Carlota Aragon Herrera. He graduated in 1941 from Las Vegas High School. He worked in Oakland, Calif., at the ship yards in the 1940s and also worked for Condon Coal Company, Sal's Plumbing, the New Mexico Sawmill and Williamson's Greenhouse. He was a member of the Las Vegas/San Miguel senior citizens and a volunteer at the Las Vegas Medical Center. He enjoyed playing bingo, loved dancing and going to casinos. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Emma Orin, Elsie Garcia and Mary Ann Lawson; and brother, Joe H. Herrera. He is survived by his sisters and brother, Josie H. Garcia of Las Vegas, N.M., Pauline Pino and husband Joe of Santa Fe and John Paul Herrera of Las Vegas, N.M.; special nephew, Robert Garcia and wife Michelle of Las Vegas, N.M.; and many other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at the Immaculate Conception Church. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the same church with burial to follow at St. Anthony's Cemetery. JOHN HAROLD STARKEY, 88, of La Mesilla died Tuesday after a long illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry and Isabell Starkey; sisters; and a brother.
He was a World War II veteran. He loved being a cowboy, raising horses and fishing.
He is survived by his wife, Billie H. Starkey of La Mesilla; son, Jack H. Starkey and wife Deborah of Phoenix; two grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home with burial to follow at 1 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Heart Association or to your favorite charity.

STELLA M. VARGAS, 75, of Des Montes died Monday at Holy Cross Hospital after a long illness. She worked for Funks 5&10 Cent Store on the Taos Plaza for more than 20 years. She also worked for the Taos County Road Department and ended her career working for Wal-Mart. She was preceded in death by her father, Francisco "Frank" Martinez; and mother, Dorotea Cisneros de Martinez. She is survived by her husband, Gilbert C. Vargas of Des Montes; children, Dorotea Martinez, Roger and Rose Mary, and Carlos and Theresa, all of Des Montes, and Patsy Cordova and Nick Jaramillo of Arroyo Hondo; 11 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Felima and Dan Archuleta of El Prado, Domascio Martinez and Polly of Des Montes, Jenny Perego of Las Vegas, Nev., Clora Gallegos of Brighton, Colo., Cora and Luis Cardenas of Questa, Consuelo Velasquez, Phyllis and Ernest Rael, Loretta Duran, Victoria Garcia, Jake and Marie Martinez, Lollie Gonzalez, Theresa Martinez and Lola Lopez, all of Denver; and many other relatives. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Arroyo Seco. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the same church with burial to follow at Arroyo Seco Cemetery. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margarito and Josefa Elvira Garcia; and sister, Audrey Gonzales.
He is survived by his wife, Lucy B. Garcia of the family home in El Pueblo; son, Virgil Garcia Jr. and wife Teresa Garcia; brother, Carlos Garcia; and many other relatives and friends.
