ELISEO BENJAMIN MALAGON, 30, of Rio Rancho, died Aug. 11 after injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was a landscaper and worked as a computer technician for Computer Land. GREGORITA "GREGO" V. MARTINEZ, 97, of Santa Fe died Saturday. She was born in Santa Fe, the daughter of Telesfor Velarde and Camila Giron. She enjoyed participating with friends in the folkoric and traditional dances of New Mexico. Her kitchen, rich in aromas and foods of home, provided comfort and warmth to friends and family. Coffee and cookies were always first on the list. As her illness evolved, her tortilla therapy amazed her doctors and care givers. She was a determined and resilient child whose independent thinking was fostered by the Great Depression. She was preceded in death by her husband, Teofilo Martinez. She is survived by her son, Elmer Martinez and wife Marsha of Seattle; sister, Christina Velarde of Santa Fe; and many other relatives and friends. ROSE NARANJO, 89, of Santa Clara Pueblo died Monday at home. Her Santa Clara Tewa Name was Aakonpovi, which means "Meadow Flower." She was fondly known by her children and many in the pueblo as Gia, or mother. She and her husband were missionaries for the Southern Baptist Convention at both Santa Clara and Taos pueblos. They served as missionaries from 1954 to 1976, when they retired at Taos and returned to Santa Clara Pueblo. While serving as a missionary, she continued being a pueblo potter. After retirement, she and her husband worked as potters. In 1994, she and her family were awarded the National Buddy Award. The Buddy Award was awarded to her for raising strong women who made a difference in education, the arts and professional achievements. In 1996, New Mexico Highlands University recognized the Naranjo family with "The Distinguished Family Award," in recognition of their lifetime commitment to education, excellence in the arts and public service. Among her many awards and recognitions, in 1994, she was named a Santa Fe Living Treasure, and in 2001, The Southwest Association of Indian Arts recognized her with its Lifetime Achievement Award for making significant and lifelong contributions to American Indian arts. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael E. Naranjo. She is survived by her brother, Louis Naranjo of San Ildefonso Pueblo; children, Louise Romero of Santa Clara Pueblo, Edna and Ben Romero of Taos Pueblo, Tito and Bernice Naranjo of Chacon, Rina and Ralph Swentzell of Santa Fe, Tessie Naranjo of Santa Clara Pueblo, Jody Folwell and husband Lucky Turipa of Santa Clara Pueblo, Michael and Laurie Naranjo of Santa Fe, Dolly and Marc Neikrug of Santa Fe, Nora and Greg Morse of Española, and Cleo Naranjo of Santa Cara Pueblo; 23 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. AVA SMITH CARMICHAEL of La Jolla, Calif., died suddenly Tuesday.
She had a vacation home in Santa Fe.

BETTY GOODRICH, 80, of Santa Fe died Thursday.
She was born in Bethany, Okla. She was known as Clara Beth "C.B.," "Betty," Jernigan Goodrich. She became a professional tailor and designer. Over 31/2 decades, her business thrived in Santa Fe. Her customers included ambassadors; music, movie and television stars; and Hollywood fashion designers. Her clientele included local, national and international customers. Together, she and her husband designed and built two of their Santa Fe homes. They also devoted much time to square dancing. She developed Alzheimer's disease. She will be remembered for her painting, sewing and singing.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas Richard Goodrich; daughters, Judy Goodrich-Benbow and husband, Ronald Benbow; Linda Holley and husband, Mickey Holley; Peggy Gonzales and husband, Michael Gonzales; six grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A memorial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. John's Methodist Church followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

He was born in Taos. He had a long, wonderful career practicing labor and employment law. His life was made full and complete by the love of his family and friends.

ALEX PACHECO, 83, of Santa Fe died Thursday after a brief illness.
He was born in Alcalde, the son of Victoriana Borrego and Jose Pacheco. He attended three years of York College in Nebraska before enlisting in the U.S. Marines, where he received an honorable discharge as a sergeant in 1945. He earned high medal honors as a sharpshooter. He was employed as a Human Rights commissioner, commissioner of Securities for former Gov. Jack Campbell and chief of Corporation Commission under John Block. He was an active member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and served the Democratic Party as ward chairman of District 45 for 40 years.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Anthony Pacheco; and sister, Veva and husband J.D. Garcia.
He is survived by his wife, Lorraine Pacheco; and many other relatives.

FREBRONIA "EFFIE" ARCHULETA, 89, of Wagon Mound, died Wednesday after a short illness at St. Vincent Hospital.
She was born in Levi to the late Sixto Pino and Ferminia Medina. She was married in Wagon Mound in 1931 to Felix Archuleta. She was a member of the Santa Clara Church in Wagon Mound, the Legion of Mary and the Wagon Mound senior citizens. She enjoyed quilting and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Felix Archuleta; sisters, Annie Montoya, Lola Salazar, Sadie Garcia, Ramoncita Martinez and Magdalena Trujillo; and brothers, Joe Pino and Abencio Pino.
She is survived by her son, Crescencio Archuleta and wife Mary Lou of Springer; daughter, Cleo Martinez and husband Fred of Roy; 10 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
