ROSINA V. MARTINEZ, 88, of Cundiyo died Thursday after a short illness. She was an active member of the Bennie C. Chavez Senior Center, where she participated in her favorite crafts, weaving and ceramics. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Petronila Vigil; sisters, Emelinda, Elvira, Floy, Bertha and Rebecca Vigil; and husband, Blas S. Martinez. She is survived by four children, Lovia Leyba and husband Orlando, Elsie Archuleta and husband Pat, Bert Martinez and wife Lucy, and Elmer Martinez and friend Rebecca; siblings, Carmelita Romero, Susie Herrera, Stella Roybal and husband Amos, Benina Trujillo and husband Cornelio, Floy Drake and husband Harry, Florence Lesprance, Roberto Vigil and wife Pulita, and Carlos Vigil and wife Lydia; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Sunday at Block-Salazar Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Holy Family Church in Chimayó. BERNICE "BENNIE" PACHECO, 79, of El Guache, died Thursday after a long illness. She had worked for the Zia Company and devoted her time as a foster grandparent at Hernandez Elementary and was a member of the Sociedad Senoras Unidas and the Holy Family of El Guache. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Emilio Serna; her late husband, Arturo Pacheco; parents, Fidel and Julianita Candelaria; and sisters, Dora Klein. She is survived by her sister, Beatric Chacon and husband Avencio of Gallup; sisters-in-law, Sennie Serna and Alexina Serna; stepchildren, Lena Bustos and husband Ben of Dallas, Rosemary Lovato and husband Alfonso of El Guache, Ramon Pacheco and wife Pamela of Albuquerque, and Noel Montoya and husband Frank of Santa Fe; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Visitation begins at 3 p.m. Sunday at Block-Salazar Mortuary in Española, with a rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Española, with burial to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. SECUNDINA DURAN, 70, of Sapello died Sunday after a long illness.
She loved to read her Bible and and listen to gospel hymns. She enjoyed watching shows on television and being around people. She was preceded in death by her parents, Meliton and Magdalena Mondragon; husband, Ernesto Duran; brothers, Casimiro Pacheco and Cruz Pacheco; sisters, Frances Padilla and Evelyn Leal; birth mother, Julianita Aragan and birth father, Olgio Pacheco. She is survived by her brothers, Florentino Pacheco and wife Mary of Ocate, Miguel Pacheco and wife Dolores and Juanito Martinez, all of Las Vegas; sisters, Rafaelita Bustos of Wagon Mound, Beda Lovato of Boulder, Colo., Mary Torres and Epi Casias and husband Abran, and Lydia Tafoya and husband John of Raton; special niece, Adrianna Aragon; and many other relatives and friends. Visitation will be held 2-6 p.m. today at Rogers Chapel, followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Duran Family Cemetery in Ocate with burial to follow. JOSE ALEX MAESTAS, 76, of Talpa died Monday. He retired after 30 years of service with the National Guard. He was preceded in death by his grandsons, Albert Trujillo and Nathaniel Maestas. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Maestas; children, Joanne Gallegos, Elma Vigil, Alex Maestas Jr., Darlene Salazar, Paula Schuldheiz, Andy Maestas, Margaret Maestas, Freddie Maestas, Terry Maestas, Pat Maestas, Julie Martinez, David Maestas and Phillip Maestas; a special grandson, Manuel Maestas; 30 grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Willie Romero, Anastacio Maestas, Uvaldo Maestas, Manuel Maestas Jr., Esther Santistevan, Corrine Valdez, Manuel Maestas, Orlando Maestas, Tommy Maestas, Bernie Maestas; and many other relatives. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church. A mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at the same church with burial to follow at Talpa Cemetery. JOAQUIN L. SALAZAR, 21, of Chimayó died Sunday from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He attended Holy Cross School, St. Katherine's, Victory Faith Academy and Española Valley High School. He was preceded in death by his brother, Raul Salazar. He is survived by his wife, Adreena; parents, Willie Ronnie Salazar and wife, Jeanelle of Llano and Annabelle Lopez and husband Mike of Chimayó; daughter, Esperanza Gallegos of Española, brother, Willie Salazar Jr. of Chimayó; and many relatives and friends. A service will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Victory Faith Church in Española. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada. DOLORES CLAUDIA HERRERA, 66, of Ranchos de Taos died Tuesday. She earned an Associate of Arts degree in elementary education from New Mexico Highlands University and retired from the Taos Municipal Schools as a teacher's assistant. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Feloniz Martinez; son, David Herrera; brother, Felix Martinez; and sisters, Teofila Trujillo and Tillie Romero. She is survived by her husband, Eli Herrera; and children, Benito Herrera (Jares) of Santa Fe, Eli Herrera Jr., Anna Herrera (Marty Martinez) and Dolores Herrera Jr. (Mele Duran), all of Taos. She is also survived by brothers and sisters, Manuelita Chavez, George Martinez, Betty Martinez (Roy), Benito Martinez and Tomas Martinez; four grandsons; and many other relatives and friends. MARIA ELENA STAGGERS, 72, of Las Vegas died Monday after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her father, Jesus Mora; children, Joseph Tafoya, Lorraine Tapia, and Thomas Tafoya. She is survived by her mother, Elvira Mora of Rainsville; four children, John Romero, Phillip Romero, Daniel Romero and wife Elaine, and Carmen Romero, all of Albuquerque; two sisters, Esther Trujillo and husband Lee, and Virginia Mora, both of Rainsville; one brother, Roger Mora and wife Annabelle of Rainsville; a special nephew, Michael Mora; and many other nieces and nephews. CHARLES WILFRED BEAVERS, 47, of Canjilon died Saturday He was preceded in death by his father, Phillip Beavers in 1999; brother, Frankie Beavers in 1976; grandparents, Edwardo and Lucia Trujillo and Charles and Maria Angelo. He is survived by his wife, Theresa L. Beavers; son, Christopher Beavers; mother, Consuelo and husband Pablo Martinez; step-grandmother, Trinidad Martinez; brothers, Jimmy Beavers and Pablito Martinez of Ranchitos, Matthew Trujillo of San Juan, Philip Beavers Jr. of Buffalo, N.Y.; sisters, Margaret Pagliacci and husband Joe, Lori Beavers; stepmother, Marie Beavers of Buffalo, N.Y., Patricia Brown and husband Dale of Rio Rancho; mother-in-law, Mary Leyba; and many relatives and friends. VICENTE CHAVEZ, 99, of Las Vegas, N.M., died Saturday after a long illness. He was born Jan. 18, 1904, in Ojitos Frios to the late Ramon and Nieves Lujan Chavez. A lifelong Catholic, he attended Our Lady of Sorrows Church. He is survived by two cousins, Louise Herrera of Las Vegas, N.M., and Stella Chavez of Watsonville, Calif.; and many other relatives. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. today at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with burial to follow in the Santo Nino de Atocha Cemetery in La Manga.

JUAN JOSE DOMINGUEZ, 102, of Chamisal died Saturday. He received his teachers certificate in Emporia, Kan., and he graduated with a bachelor's degree in education from New Mexico Highlands University. He was a teacher for 34 years in Taos County Schools and principal in 1964 in Chamisal. He was a Soil Conservation board member for many years and helped establish the Senior Citizens Program in Taos County. He is survived by his wife, Josefa; children, Melitona Maes and husband Aaron of Embudo, J.J. Dominguez Jr. and wife Dora of Chamisal, Rose Maes and husband Daniel of Embudo, and Jerry Dominguez and wife Edwina of Lawndale, Calif.; 17 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren; and sisters, Kate Vasquez and Onesima Garcia. Burial was held at the Dominguez Family Cemetery in Chamisal.
