GUSMAN MAESTAS, 75, of Hernandez died Friday after a short illness.
He loved fishing, gardening and singing in the choir at San Jose Church in Hernandez. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tobias and Lugardita Maestas; and aunt, Guadalupe Lovato who raised him.
He is survived by his wife, Nora Maestas of Hernandez; sons, Gusman Maestas and wife, Yolanda, of Santa Fe, Joe Maestas and wife, Agnes; Raymond and wife Gloria, Sammy and companion Magdelena Martinez, and Michael, Manual and Ivan, all of Hernandez; daughters, Viola Gutierrez, and Ines and husband, Jose Gutierrez, of Hernandez; grandson whom he raised, Jeremy Maestas of Hernandez; sisters, Angie DeSantos of Sebastopol, Calif.; Ida War of Medenales and Bernie Gallegos of Hernandez; and many other relatives and friends.
Services have taken place with burial at San Jose Cemetery.

MICHAEL J. ORTEGA, 50, of Chimayó died Saturday.
He is survived by his daughters, Diana, Loretta and Rhonda; four grandchildren; parents, Arturo and Clara Ortega of Chimayó; sisters, Jennie Vigil and husband, Billy, of Albuquerque; Peggy Vargas and husband, Alfonso, and Debbie Ortega, all of Chimayó; and many other relatives and friends.
Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. today at Holy Family Catholic Church in Chimayó with burial to follow at Potrero Cemetery in Chimayó.

PETRA MALDONADO VALERIO, 23, of Española died Sunday.
She is survived by her husband, Juan Valerio; children, Luis Valerio, Brian Valerio and Marlene Valerio; mother, Gregoria Lopez and father, Alberto Maldonado; brothers, Isaias and Gorge Hernandez and Froilan Maldonado; sisters, Sanjuana and Laura Elena Maldonado; and many other relatives and friends.
A public visitation will be held at 3 p.m. followed by services at 7 p.m. today at Block-Salazar Mortuary of the Española Valley. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at El Buen Pastor Church followed by burial.

MARGARET GRIER MOON, 83, of Santa Fe died Monday. She was born in Monmouth, Ill. to Florence Mc Hale Grier and De Forrest Wilcox Grier. She married John Philip Moon in Bradley Field, Conn., in 1944. She earned her bachelor of science degree from Purdue University in 1943 and was employed as a teacher and speech therapist. She was a loving wife and mother. She was a member of the Altar Guild at the Church of the Holy Family and the Infant Welfare League of Chicago. She loved football and never missed a game her son coached. She also enjoyed traveling with her daughter. She was preceded in death by her husband, John P. Moon. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Ann Moon of Santa Fe; son, William J. Moon and wife Margaret Mc Lean of Santa Fe; brothers, Donald Grier and wife Betty of Forest Hills, Calif.; Robert Grier and wife Ruth of Springfield, Mo.; close friends, John McLean and Delfina Gurule; and many other relatives and friends. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Bede's Episcopal Church, 1601 St. Francis Drive, Santa Fe, N.M., 87507. Mass will be celebrated at 9 a.m. Thursday at St. Bede's Episcopal Church. MIKE ROMERO, 54, of Holman died Monday.
He was born to the late Pedro Romero and Dorothy Moya Romero. He was married in Mora to Norma J. Romero in 1978. He was employed by the New Mexico State University Tree Farm in Mora for 15 years. He was a firefighter for two years. He enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a member of St. Gertrude's Church in Mora and a member of La Morada de Nuestro Padre Jesus de Nazareño.
He is survived by his wife, Norma J. Romero of the family home in Holman; sons, Pedro Romero of Chacon and Michael Romero of Colorado; daughters, Leandra Romero of Chacon and Shannon Armendariz and husband Allen of Las Animas, Colo.; three grandchildren; brothers, Dennis Romero and wife Stella of Chacon and Juan Romero and wife Susie of Albuquerque; sisters, Linda Medina and husband Manuel of Colorado, Emma Anderson and husband Mike of Denver, Mary Ann Ortiz and friend Dennis Barndays and Bertha Romero and husband Keith Roberts, all of Albuquerque; special dogs, Baby and Bob, of the family home; and many other relatives and friends.
A prayer service will be held at 5 p.m. today at Mt. Calvary Assembly of God Church in Mora. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at St. Gertrude's Church in Mora. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at the same church with burial to follow at Chacon Catholic Cemetery.

NANCY RUTH STONE, 63, of Las Vegas, N.M. died Wednesday at Vida Encantada Nursing and Rehab Center after a long illness.
She was a former resident of Hillsboro. She was born in Pietown to Howard Grice and Zena Ruth Adamson. She was a member of the Victory Faith Four Square Church. Her hobbies included cooking, sewing, baking and gardening. She loved being with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Ben Cox and wife Gwen of Louisville, Texas; daughter, Marsha Zamora and husband Kenny of Las Vegas, N.M.; five grandchildren; brothers, Mitchell Grice and wife Marilyn of Houston, Cliff Grice and wife Lavonne of Truth or Consequences and Bob Grice and wife Nancy of Veguita; sisters, Mona Burns of Estancia, Tence Hardin of Mentmore and Laura Taylor and husband Dick of Woodburn, Ore.; special friend, Carl West of Deming; and many other relatives and friends.
Wake services will be held at 6 p.m. today at the Rogers Chapel. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the same chapel with burial to follow at the Masonic Cemetery.

M. JEAN LAPP GREER, 77, of Santa Fe died Thursday after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Springer to John Isacc Lapp and Lillian Elizabeth Bolinger. She attended school in various places and graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1945. Following graduation she worked at Capital Auto Supply, the Health Department and later at the Welfare Office in Santa Fe. She married Bill Greer in 1946. The couple had three children and spent the next several years self-employed in work related to soil conservation. In 1959 they settled in Las Vegas, N.M. In 1964 she went to work as a clerk at Montgomery Ward and in 1969 she began work as a secretary at NMHU until her retirement in 1992. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crafts, gardening, attending church, travel and spending time with her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Kenneth Lapp. She is survived by her husband, Nathaniel W. "Bill" Greer; daughters, Carol Jean Greer May and husband Ernest of Evanston and Meeteetse, Wyo.; Billie Dean "Amara" Heising and husband Ed of Bosque Farms; son, Tom Greer and wife Kyle of Las Vegas, N.M.; six grandchildren; brothers, Robert Lapp of Arkansas and Phillip Lapp and wife Nancy of Oregon; and many other relatives. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 715 National Ave., Las Vegas, N.M. OLIVAMA HERRERA, 80, of Santa Fe died Wednesday after a stroke. She was a former resident of Medanales. She was preceded in death by her husband, Amabilis Herrera; parents, Belarmino and Josefita Martinez; and brothers, Antonio Jose, Abelino and Damian Martinez. She is survived by her children, Edward Herrera of Santa Fe, Jose Herrera of Las Vegas, N.M., Rosina Martinez of Santa Cruz, Maria Evan Herrera-Gamboa of Los Angeles and Mary Sena and husband David of Albuquerque; seven grandchildren; sister, Anita Ramirez; special friends, Mary Ann and Robert Anderson of Santa Fe; and many other other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in the Sangre de Cristo Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m.
Saturday at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Cañada with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
