LUCIA A. VIGIL, 81, of Las Trampas died Monday.
She was a loving housewife who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved cooking, sewing and gardening. She was a member of the Las Carmelitas and Sagrada Familia. She was employed at the Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory during her early years. She enjoyed reading the Bible, religious books and daily prayers.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Ernesto Vigil; sons, Florindo Raymond Vigil, David Herson Vigil and Jose Elmer Vigil; parents, Jose Isa and Reyecita Aguilar; brothers and sisters, Anselmo and Jose Oracio Aguilar, Mable, Erlinda and Oralia Aguilar. She is survived by her sons, Andrew Vigil and wife Teresa of Grants, Lawrence Vigil and wife Patricia of Hernandez; sisters, Alicia Casias of Grants, Amelia Vigil of Los Angeles, and Pauline Cardenas of Velarde; brothers, Jose Amabil Aguilar of Velarde and Gilbert Aguilar of El Valle; five grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at the same church with burial to follow at 2 p.m. at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.

VIRGINIO RUBEN "VR" MARTINEZ JR., 19, of Plaza Blanca died Thursday.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Luther Martinez.
He is survived by his parents, Crisanta and Virginio R. Martinez Sr. of Plaza Blanca; sisters, Lisa Martinez and husband Albert, and Bernadette Martinez and husband Paul Gonzales of Farmington; brothers, Jesus Martinez and wife Marquita of Plaza Blanca, Santiago Martinez and wife Rayetta of Lumberton, Patrick Martinez of Gallup, and Carlos Martinez of Salt Lake City; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at San Jose Church in Los Ojos. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at the same church.

ISAURO VALENCIA, 96, of San Ildefonso died Thursday of natural causes.
He was a member of the carpenter's union. He was a rancher and farmer for many years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Aurelia Valencia; sister, Rose Lujan; and brother, Ben Valencia.
He is survived by his sons, Joe Valencia, Robert Valencia and wife Erlinda, Jace Valencia, Ephraim Valencia, Levi Valencia and wife Barbara, Eli Valencia, Dan Valencia and Lubin Valencia; daughter, Esther Silva and husband Frank; and many other relatives and friends.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will take place at a later date at the Guaje Pine cemetery in Los Alamos.

KATHERINE ANN FERTIG, 57, of Santa Fe, died Friday of melanoma.
She is survived by her sons, Mark and Jason Phelps; sister, Susan Fertig-Dykes; special friend, Chester Judah; and many other relatives and friends.
She was born in Ray, Ariz., just before the family returned to the Philippines, where her father worked as a mining engineer. She grew up in Baguio City where she attended Brent School, a private Episcopal boarding and day preparatory school. In 1965 she entered Emory University, later transferring to the University of Florida, and then completed her undergraduate degree in nursing at Akron University and worked as a registered nurse in pediatrics.
She received her master's degree from Washington University in St. Louis and became a certified pediatric nurse practitioner. She was formerly married to William E. Phelps III of St. Louis and they lived in Akron; Nairobi, Kenya; Janesville, Wis.; Melbourne, Australia; St. Charles, Mo.; and St. Louis before she moved to Santa Fe in 2000, where she fell in love with the mountains and the hiking trails.
Until her illness, she practiced at the Arroyo Chamiso Pediatric Center of St. Vincent Hospital in Santa Fe.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Randall Davey Audubon Center (checks may be made to RDAC), P.O. Box 9314, Santa Fe, NM, 87504.
Funds are to be designated to the Kathy Fertig Memorial Fund with the intention of preserving and protecting the southwestern wilderness that she loved so much.

MACLOVIA G. ARCHULETA, 52, of the Espaņola Valley, died Friday. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pedro and Erminia Montoya; and brothers, Demecio and Frank Montoya. She is survived by her husband, Amadeo R. Archuleta of Santa Cruz; children, Adrian R. Montoya and companion Ruth Chavez, and Josie Roybal and companion Lawrence Lovato, all of Santa Fe, Patricia Jimenez and companion George Quintana of Rio Rancho, Pedro Archuleta and companion Andrea Chavez of Santa Cruz, 10 grandchildren; siblings, Viola Lobato of Albuquerque, Eddie and Viola Montoya, Augustin Montoya, Frances and Zebedeo Arellano, Geraldine Montoya and companion Alfredo Diaz, and Charlene Montoya and companion Billy Ortiz, all of Tesuque. PRESCILIANO "PRES" DIMAS, 81, of Santa Fe died Saturday in Albuquerque of complications from gall bladder surgery. He was born in Cerrillos, the son of Willie Dimas and Nina Maddox. He married Flora Catanach Dimas in 1944 in Santa Fe. He was a 1942 graduate of Santa Fe High School and attended the College of Santa Fe. He worked for the Selective Service System from 1942-1945 and retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory in 1975, with 30 years of service. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a loving father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Flora C. Dimas; children, son, Bill Dimas and wife Candy; daughter, Nina Rivera Dimas; five grandchildren; sister, Lena Padilla; and many other relatives and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the America Cancer Society, 839 Paseo de Peralta, Santa Fe, N.M., 87501. A visitation will be held at 6 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church. OLYMPIA J. GONZALES, 86, of Santa Fe died Tuesday after a long illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Gonzales; son, Marco Gonzales; one grandson; parents, Modesto and Trinidad Chavez; brothers, William, Martine, Roy, Frank, Modesto, Joe and Paul Chavez; and sisters, Mae Luna, Juanita Kimbrell C de Baca, and Viola Chavez. She is survived by her son, Dennis E. Gonzales and wife Eva of Santa Fe; daughters, Georgia Ann Romero and husband Andrew of Santa Fe; and Karla Derryberry and husband Tom of Loma, Colo.; sisters, Mary Olguin and husband Ernest of Burbank, Calif., and Vestina Gambardella of New Haven, Conn.; 11 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the same church with burial to follow at the Santa Fe National Cemetery. MANUEL "REX" LUCERO, 70, of Santa Cruz died unexpectedly Monday. He was preceded in death by his son, David Lucero; mother, Estella Lucero; and father, Bonifacio Lucero. He was a longtime bus contractor for the Espaņola School District. He is survived by his daughter, Paula Salazar and husband Johnny of Santa Fe; six grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Agatha Bowlar, Fred Lucero and wife Evelyn, all of California and Joseph Lucero of Santa Cruz; close friend, Sennie Quintana of Cuarteles; mother of his children, Jeanette Lucero of Santa Fe; and many other relatives and friends. DEAN MCQUILLAN,41 , of Santa Fe died unexpectedly Friday. He was raised in Columbus, Ohio. He moved to Hilton Head, S.C., in 1984 and married Courtney Tabb of Augusta, Ga. He moved to Santa Fe in 1996. He is survived by his parents, Larry and Deanna McQuillan of Santa Fe; brother, Dana McQuillan of Santa Fe; son and his mother, Nicklaus McQuillan and Courtney Wall of Augusta, Ga. and son, Ian Kennedy of Clearwater, Fla.; best buddy, Sammy, his Siamese cat; and many other relatives and friends.
