JULIANA MARGARET KOVES BLATZ, 89, of Berzete-Koros, Gomor Megye, Austria-Hungary died Tuesday in Albuquerque. She emigrated to the United States with her parents, Zsusanna and Balint Koves and grew up in the Hungarian community in East Chicago, Ind. She attended Washington High School and the University of Indiana. She studied art at the University of Chicago and the Art Institute of Chicago. She moved to Los Alamos from Chicago in the 1950s with her husband who was a scientist at Los Alamos Laboratory. Enchanted by New Mexico, she was active in the New Mexico art community and served several times as president of the Los Alamos Art Association. Her pastel landscapes have graced the walls of Los Alamos High School and the governor's office in Santa Fe. She taught Sunday school for many years at the Unitarian Church in Los Alamos. She taught art at the University of New Mexico extension and in the Los Alamos Public Schools. She was a frequent exhibitor in the Biennial Exhibition for New Mexico Artists in Santa Fe and her work was featured in Les Editions de La Revue Moderne Des Arts et de la Vie in Paris. In 1993, her pastel painting, "Aspens," won first place in the Fuller Lodge Art Center Gallery and Museum juried exhibition. She participated in Abstract Reality Squared, a group interested in the expression and exploration of non-objective art. Warm and affectionate, she loved drawing, painting sewing, children, gardening and cooking. Her recipe for apple strudel was published in "Sweetness and Light, A Book of Desserts," in 1996. In her later life, her grandchildren were particularly dear to her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Laurence. She is survived by her brother, William John Koves and wife Ethel of Schaumberg, Ill.; daughters, Susan Juliana Blatz of Evanston, Ill., and Karen Driscoll and husband Peter of Albuquerque; four grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. WILLIE GARCIA, 24, of Sombrillo died Monday. He is survived by his parents, Fermin and Joann Garcia; sister, Carrie Garcia; brother, Fermin Garcia Jr. and wife Karen; and many other relatives. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. today at La Iglesia de Santa Cruz de la Caņada. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at the same church. ADELIA O. HERRERA, 95, of Tecolote died Tuesday at the Alta Vista Regional Hospital. She was born in La Manga to the late Juan Ortega and Ignacita Benavidez. She was married in 1927 to the late Juan Suazo of No Agua, who passed away in 1940. She then married the late Cleofas Herrera of Tecolote in 1941. She retired from the West Las Vegas Schools where she was employed as cook. She lived a long, healthy life and loved to play bingo at Camel Rock Casino. She was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church and the Santo Nino De Atocha Church in La Manga. She was preceded in death by her parents, Juan and Ignacita Ortega; first and second husbands; and stepson, Esequiel Herrera. She is survived by her son, Manuel Suazo and wife Mary of Denver; daughters, Ursula Huerera and husband Abelino and Frances Gallegos, all of Denver, Olive George of Antonito, Colo., Jane Pacheco and husband Lorenzo of Tecolote and Viola Trujillo and husband Primitivo of Albuquerque; stepchildren, Noverto Herrera of Roseville, Calif., Jose Herrera and wife Helen of Las Vegas, N.M.; Tiofilo Chavez and wife Mary and Andalecia Pacheco, all of Tecolote, and Angie Trujillo of Albuquerque, 21 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at Our Lady of Sorrows Church, Las Vegas, N.M. BRUCE CLEMENTS DETTER, JR., 77, died Monday in Albuquerque.
He was a graduate of Hutchinson High School in 1944. He earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended Hutchinson Junior College and graduated from Kansas State University in 1950 with a degree in cereal chemistry from the school of milling. He was associated with Wallace and Tiernan Milling Co. in Kansas City for a number of years and served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1944-1946. He returned to KSU, graduating in the field of veterinary medicine in 1960.
He practiced in Nickerson, Kan., among the farm community which he loved. In 1970, he and his family moved to Taos where he owned a small animal clinic, managed the Taos Animal Shelter and was in private practice.
He was married in 1978. He retired in 1984 when he and his wife moved to Santa Fe. They became active members of St. John's United Methodist Church and enjoyed serving as docents at El Rancho de Las Golondrinas.
He is survived by his wife, Joan Polson Detter of the home; children, Bruce C. Detter III and wife Diane of Santa Maria, Calif., Betsy Miller and husband Mike of Lincoln, Neb., Jere Detter and wife Kathy of Omaha, and Denise Whittington and husband Steve of Plano, Texas; stepchildren, David Polson and Susan Norton of Santa Fe; Joyce Pratt Mitchell, the mother of his children; seven grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John's United Methodist Church, 1200 Old Pecos Trail, Santa Fe, N.M., 87505 or El Rancho de Las Goldondrinas, 334 Los Pinos, Santa Fe, N.M., 87507 or the charity of your choice.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John's United Methodist Church with burial to be held in Baldwich, Kan.

DELFINIA VALERIO HERRERA, 82, of Ranchos de Taos died Tuesday.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose de Jesus Valerio and Francisquita Trujillo Valerio; husband, Joaquin Herrera; four brothers; and four sisters.
She is survived by her children, Walter F. Herrera and wife Liz of Ranchos de Taos, Guadalupe Rodarte and husband Ernest, Victoria Diana Trujillo and husband George, Patsy Fresquez and husband Willie, Joaquin Herrera and wife Vickie, and Victor Herrera and wife Beckie, all of Taos, Carmela Martinez of Vadito and Francella Vasquez and husband Robert of Placitas; sister, Corine Valerio of Taos; 21 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at San Francisco de Asis Catholic Church.

ZAC MARTINEZ, 74, of Ojo Caliente died Tuesday.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Zacarias and Eleanor Martinez.
He is survived by his wife, Eva Martinez of Ojo Caliente; daughters, Alma Rocha of Ojo Caliente, Armandina Escontrias and husband John of Denver, Diana Jaramillo and husband Richard of El Rito and Sandra Lopez and husband Gilbert; son, Troy Martinez of Ojo Caliente; 17 grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ojo Caliente. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at the same church with burial to follow at 1 p.m. at Santa Fe National Cemetery.

PAMELA S. TEMPLE of White Rock died suddenly Monday.
She is survived by her husband, Rodney D. Temple; children, Jennifer and Ryan; and mother, Miss Kiddy.
